I think this hits close to the truth. If I can amend what you are saying... He wants to be *recognised* as the villain in a movie. Let's be honest, the villains are usually the most intriguing - Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter, Lex Luthor, The Joker, Mandarin. These characters always seem to be one step ahead and when we hear about their plans, our reaction is usually "wow that's smart/can Batman still save the day?" I think this kid is dying for people to feel that way about him. The urge to STFU is suppressed by his need to tell his "master plan" to a device that he knows is recording him.
@@jaymeister4850 As an aspiring writer I sometimes try to act out characters I'm trying to create. Get a feel for how they speak and move that kind of thing. As a very inexperienced writer I can confirm the temptation to slip into that kind of over the top "villain" affectation. This dude is rough drafting a murder interrogation.
Every narcissist thinks they're God's gift to mankind and incapable of failure. Deep down, they go to those lengths because they know they aren't shit.
So to summarize.... a young man (an adult) hooks up with a teen girl (a minor), starts a sexual relationship with her (a crime), winds up committing murder with the help from another adult (a bigger crime and a conspiracy), because the teen said she was being abused (a lie), so he can continue his relationship with this minor (still a crime).
My roommates and I are watching this and losing our minds. We all went to school with Ellie when this happened. We were all in band with her, my roommate was a very close friend of hers. I know most of the people who were interviewed in this video. I remember noticing she was missing from a few of my classes, hearing her dad was murdered and connecting the dots. I remember my band teacher telling us about what she had done. I remember seeing her and Gavin at band practices kissing and touching eachother, thinking it was gross. Absolutely insane to see the interrogation footage. I really thought she was manipulated by Gavin and RJ, but seeing this is making me realize how manipulative SHE was. Edit: crazy to think she was texting her boyfriend about killing her dad next to all of us on the bus coming back from the band competition. My roommate mentioned she remembers Ellie being glued to her phone on the way back. You can actually see the admission bracelet still on her wrist from the PCI competition she mentions. This is insane looking back and seeing all of the details I missed as a kid.

I asked one of her friends how many brothers does she have and the friend rolled her eyes and said she doesnt have any brothers.
@Daniel Morrison hey we think it’s funny, and ya what happened is super sad but I still think that the stupid things Gavin said was funny. Just because he said the joke was funny doesn’t mean he lacks empathy. Yes, yes it was funny
I watched a few of these videos now and I noticed that some of the people who were being interrogated didn't seem aware of the situation. I mean, you're sitting in an interrogation room, still they act like it's just some small talk. Though it's good if they make those mistakes and confess in the end. But it's a serious situation
@@allenslimeverson3874in what way is this persons acknowledgment of one persons behavior indicating their unfamiliarity with the situation? if anything the observation proves this person has had experience with or at the very least understands the concept of this situation.
He doesn't really understand. People, like my nephew, with autism are taught how to mimick certain expressions in a situation. My nephew has this awkward, very unsettling smile when he engages in communication with people because he was taught that other humans expect that greeting. He looks like a psycho 🤣. He has zero filter ... he says exactly what is on his mind. It's one of his more charming behaviors because we should all be as honest. He'd say he understands right from wrong, but left to his own devices he'd do whatever popped into his head.
The editing on this video is great. I really love your channel, my only two complaints are that 1) sometimes the voiceover explaining the psychology is too often and stating the obvious, and interrupts too much, and 2) the psychology voiceovers contradict the narrative sometimes because they take the suspect's behavior at face value at times. For example, in this video Ellie is clearly lying a ton, and you call that out often, but then at the same time she'll say something like "my whole life is an empty pit," clearly playing for sympathy and being, as you previously labeled her, histrionic, yet the voiceover interrupts to tell us that feelings of emptiness are common in depression. It doesn't jive. I'd suggest, if you care what I think lol, a little lighter hand and more discerning application of the voiceover comments. Less is more and stick with the ones that support the narrative versus just throwing them in all the time without checking to see that they're consistent.
Seeing him talking to the camera like that the grinch popped into my head immediately with scene when he says " I’m a psycho " 😂😂😂 like bro tf are you doing
I think Russell was definitely vocalizing internal dialogue rather than actually hallucinating someone there. It fits with his theatric eccentricity in pretending to be a supervillain character when he’s left alone without stimuli. Knowing he’s on camera only increases his desire to act and try to intrigue whoever he is imagining is on the other side. He’s like a little kid playing pretend.
Ellie is one of the most obnoxious people I’ve ever observed. The terrible awful attempts at seeking sympathy, the obnoxious robotic baby voice, coloring and acting like a child after being involved in the murder of your father is a massive red flag. Wish she got a harder sentence. PS : That detective deserves a massive raise for dealing with her.
It's possible she's acting like a child because her brain was broken by some sort of trauma...but also -- it's possible she's just straight up evil. Dunno. Known a lot of people who acted very child like and it was from trauma...but they also ended up being so extremely sick, dangerous and overall untrustworthy individuals.
You have to admit. She is a little cutie. She's no Jodi Aries. Like if I worked at her women's prison, I'd smash her. Her defiance makes me think she'd keep it on the low as our little secret, and I'm good as long as she doesn't get pregnant. She'd be a good ride or die. Don't you think 🤔
Considering her childlike regression it WOULD appear there was some kind of sexual abuse with the development of her childlike voice sounding like a girl around 6 years old that's when I'd say it likely began
or more like why did her dad get involved with her relationship as even though that they was under age the guy wasnt much over the minimum age either and they could have been dating before they both turned 16 and so therefore was both under age but even though this wasnt the case here but somewhere else in the world it does happen

I’m so glad everyone involved in this sucked at lying or just straight up monologued and explained themselves. Makes it easier for the police at least.
@@ontheblock2063 I watched the whole thing, the video explains it way later than I thought it should have. It’s mostly mental illness in Gavin and Mike, along with theories that Ellen was the manipulator in the situation. Mike was the worst of the three when it came to how his mental illness affected his everyday life and ability to logically rationalize, compared to a neurotypical person’s ability. This caused him to want to be a protector (he says of specifically women, not in a creepy way like it sounds) and he went to extreme lengths to live his fantasy of basically being an anti-hero. Luckily, the video does address that mental illness usually makes people a victim instead of an abuser or attacker, handling the stigma well if you ask me.
As a mother videos like these make me so sad. I pray I'm a good mother to my son and raise him to have a good heart; but it's not always enough. So I pray he stays around good people, stays away from the bad people, and always can tell the difference between the two.
I feel bad for him. Probably not unique sentiment but I don’t think he was fully aware the situation he got (found) himself in. Doesn’t seem like life has been kind to him and prison is likely to make that worse.
I know Russell steals the show with the arch-villain schtick, but Ellie having a coughing fit from drinking every time something serious was brought up was hysterical, especially since she didn’t do that at all once the real talk started happening.
She also didn’t do it when she was alone in the interrogation room. For someone so “intelligent,” you would think sweet Ellie would be aware that she was constantly being observed. Not so intelligent after all.
@@HiroForever calm down. the point is that yes, this is a horrible thing that happened, and one of the people who participated in it is behaving in a way that is objectively hilarious.
Russel has no hallucinations, he carries his internal monologue as if it were external. This can be done for self affirmations or self-soothing behaviour. Something, as you may imagine, is quite common amongst people on the autistic spectrum.
Russell snitched on them that's why he got a 7 years instead of 24 like the rest of them because of his mental factual faculties is because he snitched
They're all acting stupid so that way they can humanize theirselves in the eyes of these officers and it worked Russell only got 7 years and he is the oldest one
As someone who was heavily abused during my childhood the way Ellie acts and talks about her being "abused" really irks me. I understand everyone is different, but the way she only brings it up when she needs sympathy and the way she cries, plus showing off all the tears on her jacket to the detective just really rubs me the wrong way. How she can bring it up so easily also is off to me. I could rant on this and pick everything apart but I wont. Edit: I'd also like to mention my father was horribly abusive (I wont be going into details) but I NEVER contemplated murder. Also it's weird to me that she would be okay with constantly leaving her sisters alone in an abusive situation.
When i was 13 i was talking with my older sister about killig my abusive mother but we figured out my sister would get in jail and me to foster care. Its not black and white.
Seriously. My mom tried to wrap a blow dryer cord around my neck and tried to kill me. Never once thought about hurting her. This little girl was most likely treated well. I think this hits close to the truth. If I can amend what you are saying... He wants to be *recognised* as the villain in a movie.
Let's be honest, the villains are usually the most intriguing - Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter, Lex Luthor, The Joker, Mandarin. These characters always seem to be one step ahead and when we hear about their plans, our reaction is usually "wow that's smart/can Batman still save the day?"
I think this kid is dying for people to feel that way about him. The urge to STFU is suppressed by his need to tell his "master plan" to a device that he knows is recording him.

@@jaymeister4850 As an aspiring writer I sometimes try to act out characters I'm trying to create. Get a feel for how they speak and move that kind of thing. It was actually pretty helpful in figuring out how to make my villain not sound like a stereotypical wannabe villain but instead a real human being.
Sounds about right.

So so brutal - this man seems genuinely deranged
Agreed. I would’ve enjoyed a lot more with like 80% less voiceovers. I skipped so much through them.

@@HiroForever calm down. the point is that yes, this is a horrible thing that happened, and one of the people who participated in it is behaving in a way that is objectively hilarious.
"this is 22 year old russell jones"
No, this is 12 year old timmy who just read a book about the joker.
🤓
Quite literally, the vid said he was 22 and I genuinely did a triple take.
literally 😭😭
How do we save edgelords?
A picture book
Russel has no hallucinations, he carries his internal monologue as if it were external. This can be done for self affirmations or self-soothing behaviour. Something, as you may imagine, is quite common amongst people on the autistic spectrum.
It seemed to me like he was playing into a fantasy of himself as the 'insane' villain character
Thank you for saying this I could not understand why they kept saying that it seemed odd what he was doing but it really isn't
Russell snitched on them that's why he got a 7 years instead of 24 like the rest of them because of his mental factual faculties is because he snitched
They're all acting stupid so that way they can humanize theirselves in the eyes of these officers and it worked Russell only got 7 years and he is the oldest one
Yeah I do it a lot.
Could not stand being told no. She lied and manipulated that older dude. Not saying that it was all on her but she definitely was the mastermind. He should have never got involved with that child though smh
I cant believe this content is accessible for free. I love true crime and interrogations, and this was by far one of the most dynamic, informative and well executed videos I've seen! Thanks so much EWU crew
Yes, the amount of research and quality editing is staggering.
@Squid so would you also pay the ones with your time that are behind a paywall, but ig you mean him getting by youtube from us watchin and supportin
Well is not technically free, they are getting few thousand dollars with adds and view time etc
NEVER FORGET JCS Criminal Pyschology! It's messed up how UA-cam ruined his channel.
@Squid I'll pay you with this ratio kid
The smash cuts to Russell discrediting all Ellie's lies are superb.
lMao yeah actually hilarious 💀
What's the guy's name?
"Gavin."
"Justin."
"Hmmph."
Beautiful editing!😂
Funniest video I’ve seen on this channel by far, solely because of those edits. 10/10
What do you think your friends are saying?
Russel: "Wanna see a magic trick?!"
Yep, Ellie is one of the worst people to ever live, Entirely evil. Every single word from her mouth is a lie.
For someone who asserted her right to remain silent...she said an awful lot
She needed to ask for a lawyer
Was looking for this comment lol 🤦♀️🤷♀️
@@MandyAltamiranowhy especially since she wasn't "hiding" anything
@jenpierce2385 you always ask for a lawyer especially if you're innocent
@@kerensa7349 I wouldn't know I've never been in that situation of possibly needing one and I don't know anyone that ever had to get one so I don't know anything about that.. but thank you
Oy-vay... the girl is so incredibly annoying! "Where's my dog" in her little baby voice literally sent chills up my arms.
The fact you made your own personal connections with people who knew Ellie is amazing. I love these videos so much. Criminal interrogation is so freaking cool.
@@shaveyourassrookie936 that's wild, Must have really shaken up the school and community i can't imagine
@@shaveyourassrookie936 So then how do you think she acted before doing this?
@@shaveyourassrookie936 do you think she was the main person who manipulated the guys to kill her father?
Also the subtle savagery of this channel for moments like 1:45:36 is KILLing me 💀sick pun intended 😂
Also the kid Austin has such a wholesome “Spicoli” vibe he’s the best 😂he can’t even believe he got wrapped up with some mo fukin murdering kids yo 😂He’s just stuck in South Medford High trying to get “high” and graduate 🙌🙌🙌 let him live and y’all got him in some Dateline shit now 🤣🤣🤣
Lmao "Highschool bullies with a badge" and "I eat highschool bullies for breakfast" are some of the best lines I've heard from these interviews.
Seems like the 2 guys were bullied harshly and Ellie bullied them into believing her lies. She knew exactly what she was doing. She was too smart for her own good but with zero common sense and her selfishness got the best of her. She probably thought “these losers can be easily manipulated”. She probably also took advantage of feeling smarter than them. Especially RJ Russell Mike. What was she doing having relationships with older guys like that? I also wonder if she was extremely jealous of her little sisters and dad’s girlfriend. There’s so much more to all of this.
Them creating a murder plot after finding out she was pregnant and calling it "Plan B" was so ridiculous 😂
And somewhat funny if it weren’t under such horrific circumstances .
@@kristinbull5162its ironic😆😆
How does this shii not have more likes 😭🤣🤣first thing I thought when I saw it
it's pretty genius and witty. i bet she came up with it.
We call that “cosmic irony”, my friend!
