To clarify the van maintenance cost: Mercedes ended up being more expensive than the first shop for the work we had done (Mercedes original pricing seemed cheaper because it didn’t include taxes and fees). We only saved money at Mercedes because we had less work done and we only used Mercedes because it was more convenient. We don’t feel that the first shop ripped us off (they had photo evidence for all recommended repairs) and we did a bad job explaining the situation (we were frazzled). We’d gladly use the first shop again! Follow our Journey to Alaska: ua-cam.com/play/PLZKRTK1yCEM5UxLKP3MI17m-syJkqYABj.html Our van life, camera, + hiking gear: adventuresofaplusk.com/gear/
FYI: I've used the Tire Fix Flat kits many times on my motorcycle. First time can be frustrating, but it's actually pretty easy and lasted us longer than the tread on the tire. But do you have a compressor to fill the tire?
THE PREPARATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE PEOPLE!!! Brisket is ready! Adam & Katherine are ready! Kona is ready! The rear window is ready! It’s all coming together as America’s favorite travel vloggers get set to continue their trek into wild Alaska! Cue the music cause Brad is freaking pumped!!! I’m so excited I could run through a wall! 😆😆😆 LET’S GO!!!!
I loved this video for so many reasons. First, the planning IS overwhelming and sharing your struggles was super relatable. Everything once planned, filmed and edited looks so seamless and easy that it gives your journey more dimension by sharing your challenges with this as well. I loved the checklist. That's real life and not everything you do is an actual adventure, some of it is just the stuff we must all do before embarking on any journey. And somehow that made us all feel like we ARE going on this journey with you. Looking forward to "our" journey to Alaska!!!!
It definitely is overwhelming! Especially lately since we are filming almost daily, which leaves no time to plan for the next day. Lots of behind the scenes stuff (and stress) we don't share, but we like to share it when we can!
Oh my goodness my husband and I are obsessed with the burnt cheddar and bacon crisps from Costco! We call it crack in a bag, lol Loved your prep video! You guys are awesome😁❤️
I was so worried, you guys dodged a huge bullet. Idc if you destroyed those brakes into oblivion it still shouldn't be over 1k to fix them. I'm super excited for the journey to Alaska. Have never crossed the border so im ready to see all the exciting places you guys visit.
Having lived and travelled throughout Alaska and the Yukon, I would suggest you add the following adventures: 1) Hike up Observation Mountain in Kluane NP for a mind blowing vista, 2) Drive to McCarthy, AK to check out a funky town, a copper mine, and hike onto the Root Glacier (and if you're real adventurous, cross Root Glacier and hike to the top of Mt. Donoho for more mind blowing views), and 3) hike up to the Harding Icefield (nr. Seward, AK) for more incredible vistas. Enjoy Alaska and the Yukon!!
Whew 😅 that window process was nerve-wracking. You guys did a great job and happy for you that it’s working perfectly weeks later! ❤️ sorry you keep experiencing all these issues with your house right now. Free treats at dealerships are always a perk. And it’s great that it all worked out! Cannot wait for A Plus K to be in AK! 🥺❤️ I’d be curious to know if you’re able to find any farmer’s market-type spots/farm stands out in those minimally populated areas for additional foods? Anywho, just want you guys to know you’re doing great and are more appreciated than you know. I truly mean that. Thank you for all you do. Your videos are like an escape for me!
We were very scared to peel it off after putting it up! We would love to shop at farmers markets more! We tend to miss the days they happen in every place we visit, but we'd love to support local as much as we can!
Glad you got your back glass replaced! The Rotopax work great. We carry them on our side by side for spare fuel. I use the same locking clamp you installed.
I’m glad you got the window fixed. Wow, I had no idea those windows were held just like that, wow! I bought a PleasureWay 2021 in December, which I love. I’m so glad you took your van to Mercedes’, I’ve owned many MB vehicles and my van is a sprinter and I would never take my MB anywhere else other than Mercedes dealers. I’ve had issues in the past when I took my MB elsewhere. I’m glad you opted for the dealer. I’m new to your channel, I’ve lived in Seattle for 20 years and I’m exciting watch your travels to Alaska.
I do like the confidence of getting work done at the dealership, but the price tag is hard to swallow sometimes. We’ve had good luck at other places, buts it’s only been simple jobs (oil changes, etc). Thanks for watching, Sadie!
We have been married 42 years and work well together most of the time and are at our best when the "chips are down". You together remind me so much of us at a much younger age. Kudos to you both for getting the new window in.
So interesting! I was impressed with those “gas tanks”! I loved your daily trip spreadsheet; cool way to plan and have it ready for when you need it! Can’t wait for the trip and videos to begin!!!
The Alaska Highway is a bucket list experience! If you can plan your travel, try to get to Buckshot Betty's in Beaver Creek, Yukon for breakfast and/or lunch.
Wow, alot of planning just to cross the border into Canada. You have to really be prepared to go to Alaska because you just do not know what could or could not happen. My sister sometimes refuses to go to a dealership. Her air conditioner went out on her car, and the regular mechanic was goint to charge her over 300 just to hook it up to the machine then the repairs extra. After 2 years, she broke down and took it to the Honda dealership, the car was still in warranty and did not cost her a penny, so it really just depends. I always take mine to the dealership and pray they can fix it cheaper. Thank you for sharing, I can not wait to see your adventures in Canada and Alaska.
My wife and I drove to Alaska in 2017. We used the Milepost, and it was great! It has all the information for gas, food and places to camp. We pulled our trailer and never had a problem finding a place to stay! We did not make a reservation, and we were never turned away!
If I had one Thermacell, it would be the Thermacell Backpacker. It runs off a common fuel canister (thanks Canadian youtuber Steve Wallis). The road trip food bin is always the fun part. Enjoyed watching.
Oh I looked it up it runs off the butane for stoves and stuff. Cool! We’ll look into that! We’ve had a heck of a time resisting cracking open the bin! 😂
You will enjoy camping at Toad River Lodge on the Alcan Hwy. I think you’ll find the Milepost book very helpful as you travel from one mile marker to another. It’ll point out stops and sites along the way. I’m looking forward to following your journey to Alaska!! Praying for safe and happy travels! You’re going to love it!! Bears, moose, elk, Buffalo, eagles!! So much fun!!
I’m so happy the window story finally came to a good conclusion! Looks like you guys are super prepared for your journey!! I can’t wait to watch your Canada videos coming soon!! Safe travels to you!
Tire plugs are lifesavers. If one isn’t enough use more. I’ve used a whole bunch over the years in all different tires, never had any failures. I recommend plugging a tire until it isn’t possible, save the spare until absolutely necessary. Great video!
This video got me even more excited for you three…so close to your very long awaited trip to ALASKA…WOOHOO! 💫🎉⭐️ Take your time, enjoy every minute and be safe❣️😘❤️❤️❤️🐶🥰
Really enjoyed this behind the scenes look at day to day realities of van life. Cudos to you guys for doing the stuff that's not so fun to ensure your safety and planning accordingly. I was hoping to see a new drone in that Amazon stash. A Mini 3 perhaps? Haha! Also, was that Kathryn's voice doing the sound effect for checking things off the list? Pretty sure it was! Lol!
We wish we could get a new drone! The wallet is still recovering from the telephoto lens haha That was a random sound effect I found online, but maybe I have a future in that line of work!
You guys did a great 👍 job replacing the van window. Sorry 😞 you had to deal with another costly van repair ! Can't wait to see Canada...wishing you fun and safe travels 💕
Wow, super impressed y’all fixed the window! Your tip about dog food will save us in 2 weeks as we were about to open up a new bag!! So excited to see the route 😁😁❤️❤️👏
Wishing you smooth, easy, fun, and safe travels. Can't wait for the next adventure. Thanks for sharing the prep and planning many people don't understand all the effort that goes into making a fun and smooth trip.
Yay! The new window looks great!!! Wow, that's a crazy amount of money for a fix to your braking system. We have heard Sprinter van fixes can be pricey. I need to remember that and not complain so much when we have the brakes repaired on our regular cars. LOL So glad Katherine's dad can help with major vehicle repairs like that. It definitely pays to have someone who is mechanically inclined in the family. I was hoping one of our sons would become a mechanic! Alas, it didn't happen. By the way, I've been meaning to tell you for a while that the decor inside your van is the prettiest that I've seen. You guys really did a great job making it look beautiful and homey at the same time. I know K's dad was instrumental with that as well... but yeah, looks amazing!
Yes we’ll definitely be taking care of the rest of the brake maintenance from now on! As much as we can at least! Kathryn’s dad is a life saver with the van! Thank you so much! That’s exactly what we were going for!
Hey Ya'll, we are big fans of your channel. The time you take for the right shots and quality with story telling abilities makes your production value amazing. We absolutely love your traveling pin map and was curious of how you do that? Love you guys.
We really appreciate the kind words Caitlyn! We put a lot of effort into these and it means a lot when people appreciate it. I use Adobe After Effects the map graphics. I first traced the state lines then I put the pin in for the town/place we’re at in the video then I have the dotted line draw for our route. I learned it through UA-cam University 😃
Adam & Kathryn I wanted to let you know that my husband and I just spent 2 weeks on a fabulous vaca in Sourh Dakota largely due to your vids from your trip there!! We hiked the Notch Trail at Badlands, the Cathedral Spires trail at Custer State Park, ate the donut with 5 cent coffee at Wall drug and much much more!!!! And the kicker: we are 60!! Thank you so much for your very informative and enjoyable videos!!! I don't know if we will ever make it to Alaska, but I will follow your journey for sure!! If you are ever near Ottawa, IL, let us know and we will show you around Starved Rock State Park!!🤗
That makes us feel really good to hear that we helped somebody! Our main goal is to provide value! We’re so glad to hear you had a great trip also! SD is so incredible! Thanks for watching and thank you for that offer!
Sprinter parts are MUCH more than a regular car and the work we need to do (eventually) includes more than just brake pads. Our bad for not explaining it more, but the part costs seemed fair on both estimates, but the labor just jacks it up.
Catching up on past videos. Love the Rotopax, I have the dual mount so you can stack 2 pax on one mount. We carry one water and one fuel pax. Good on ya for fixing the rear window. Vehicle maintenance can be expensive but it beats the alternative of having to get a repair done along the way. Thanks for the adventure and... until next time... Travel Safe.
Our plan before doing two attachments for two Rotopax was to stack them, but we thought it would stick out too much. That's a good idea to stack one fuel and one water. We finally have that dang window fixed! No more backing into bushes! 😂 Yes that's a good point about the maintenance. I'd rather pay to keep it healthy than when it's sick!
You two are going to have an amazing adventure! We cannot wait to join you! Great job on the new glass and WOW, you saved $4K… I can’t imagine the cost! Excellent planning see you guys next time! ~Cara 😊
For getting foreign cash, it's usually significantly cheaper and easier to wait until you are across the border and use an ATM. If you have an ATM card with no foreign transaction or ATM fees, like Schwab's, even better.
Our boys loved going to Alaska and escaping the Texas heat. The first night my husband thought he'd be generous and let them order soda at the restaurant and I was like, "OMG, no, they are like $4 a pop". We ended up getting them those special treats at the grocery store, LOL. We also thought that although they had more mosquitos then here (is that possible? LOL), we didn't seem to get bit as much. It was odd. We were also so impressed with the fact we could just go for a drive, find somewhere on the side of the road to hike. It was very nice! Hope you guys have a great adventure up there!
Funny enough, Kathryn has to fly to Texas from Alaska in August for a wedding, so she will experience the opposite weather experience that your boys did hah! We hope the mosquitoes don't bite us as much, they are probably the peskiest bugs out there!
By all means, do not miss Liard Hot Springs! Glacier Bay is magnificent and quiet and you can watch humpbacks circling the bay from Bartlett Cove. The inside passage and Juneau were our favorite.
That is probably the #1 thing I am excited for on the BC part of the Alcan! We wish we could do the inside passage this trip, but logistically it was too hard and too expensive. But we hope to fly there someday!
Can’t wait to see your adventures in Alaska!! Do you have a video on gear you guys use and recommend for hiking? I’m specifically curious on what hiking boots/shoes you guys wear ☺️
We flew to Calgary (from Maryland) at the beginning of the summer, and drove through the Canadian Rockies, up the Alaska highway to Whitehorse, down into Skagway, Alaska, took a ferry into Haines, Alaska and then drove back down using the Stewart Cassiar Highway. (Stopping in Hyder Alaska and sending lots of postcards out to all the kids friends from the US post office there!) There are a lot fewer gas stations on the Cassiar, and they are much farther apart then on the Alaska Highway... also the roads are WAY curvier with more drop offs. My one kid who gets car sick was totally fine on the Alaska highway, but threw up twice on Cassiar! But it was totally worth it to take two different ways up and down and beautiful on both highways. Our favorite highways of the entire trip though were the highway from Whitehorse to Skagway, and the Haines highway from Haines, Alaska to Haines Junction, British Columbia. Saw TONS of wildlife on both and we were basically the only car the entire drive. We stopped and ate supper in middle of the highway with no one else around, kids got to take lots of pictures dancing in middle of the road, and the views were unbeatable. I'm enjoying watching all your adventures in Alaska.. I can't wait to go again and stay longer next time!
That is an epic trip! We are taking the Cassiar back down to the lower 48 and we're pretty excited for it! Thanks for the tips about the gas stations and the windiness of it. Thanks and thanks for watching!
Hello Adventurers😊😊, Ohhh I can't wait to see y'alls road adventure into British Columbia and the remoteness through the Yukon Territories. I sure hope y'all bring lots of mosquito repellent. I can't wait to follow along with y'all to Alaska! LETS GO!!
I am SO excited that you’re taking the Alcan! Next summer I plan to drive from MT to Fairbanks, so I’m just thrilled that you will be my “recon!” Be safe and I’m following you every step of the way….uhhhh - well, you know what I mean😆
Glad you have a MilePost! It will be very useful, but don’t keep your nose in it mile by mile because you’ll miss too much! Taking the Cassiar going south is the best direction because the best views will be in that direction, plus I agree it will be fun to start at mile 0 on the Alaska Hwy. Would love to go out for coffee when you get to Anchorage!
We are glad to hear it may become more useful! I (Adam) have used it a lot more and it has given us some good spots to check out! We are happy to know we chose the better direction to do Cassiar!
Looks like you guys are prepared and ready to hit the road. I guess it doesn't matter if it's a house or a van always to do lists. Hope the window doesn't leak. Have fun and be safe
Therms-cell pro tip: keep one fired up in your van. This will keep mosquitoes from flying in when you open the door. They don’t work so good if your moving or hiking, but are a life saver if your sitting. When in Anchorage, be sure to hike Flat Top mountain. It has a great view of Anchorage and the Sleeping Lady….if the weather is nice. It’s a great hike to build an appetite for the Mooses Tooth pizzeria I’m sure your going to hit Talkeetna. Be sure to eat at the Roadhouse. They have amazing sourdough pancakes. I can go on and on, but I am sure you get suggestions all the time. Just be sure to get out and have fun. Alaska is a magical place
Thank you so much for all of the tips! Good to know about the Thermacell...we will have to try that! Moose's Tooth has been one of the top recommendations, so we will 100% be going there!
Love your videos 🥰. So excited to see your 🍁 Canada and Alaska adventures. You are living our dream! Do have a amazon store page or can you please share the link for those fuel tanks/canisters you installed on your ladder?
Hi! We have all of the gear we use for van life on this blog post. adventuresofaplusk.com/blog/our-must-have-gear-for-van-life/ You can find the Rotopax and lots of other gear there! Thanks for watching!
Well we wish you guys the best driving in Alaska. Enjoy the journey is what we always say. In 2019 we spent three months driving the interior roads of Canada Yukon and Alaska. You will use the Milepost book and at first it will seems overwhelming, but use it. The Kasserier Highway is stunning and you will want to stop at every pull out. Enjoy and we look forward to watching your adventures.
Yeah new window!!! 🎉 Good little rhyming poem about your window Catherine!😄 Kona says "what the what?" Tacos to the rescue! 🌮 Love library so relaxing!!! shhhhh! Home maintenance, no matter what your home is, always expensive! So glad Dad can help later and save you all big money!!! Kona thought it was a Chewy order! Yes we love our thermacell!!! Bought one at Menards last year. Oh candy store for Kona!! Adam are you related to MacGyver?😄Great job on all your prep for Alaska! The Alaska travel bible WOW! Okay let's hear the song! 🎶 North to Alaska, North the rush is on!🎶
We live in Southeast Texas, where mosquitos are abundant. In our RV, we carry the Thermacell, and extra cartridges on every trip. It does work fairly well, but not so much in breezy/windy conditions. If there's a breeze, you'll likely be adjusting the location so that you're downwind from the unit. If winds are changing directions, not so practical.
I still remember the episode you announcing the Alaska trip… followed you from Texas to Washington… I’m so excited… OMG, just thinking about your future episodes, I cannot wait to see them. Have a wonderful and safe trip in Alaska! P.S. I love both of your new PNW hoodies, Adam looks so handsome I am gonna get one just to match him.
That’s so fun to hear! Thanks for following along with us and we are pumped to share our Canadian and Alaskan adventures! The hoodie is super comfortable! Notice the model on their website 😉
We’ve driven cross country (NY-CA) five times and I love planning them. How far to drive each day, what to see, where to stay, how long it will take…it’s overwhelming at first, but fun once you get going and satisfying when everything goes according to plan.
Planning is one of the best parts! Definitely overwhelming (and lately more so due to how much we are doing), but we love having a plan and then also seeing what random things happen!
The window looks great If you end up using the thermacell, give it a few minutes to take effect, it works pretty well. A+ on the gas containers, so stoked for y’all. This Alaska series feels like the equivalent of setting up dominoes, y’all are almost there. So cool! 🚐🚩🤙🏽
I'm impressed you can even make a fun video out of van chores! I flew for my only trip to Alaska, so I'm very curious to see what your journey up (and back down) through Canada is like. Enjoy, and safe travels!
I love your planning spread sheet!! I Can't wait for my road trip in June, Maybe I should share my spreadsheet too !! Love the planning. And so glad you guys got a leek proof window!!
Ahhhhh! So exciting. I personally love these "planning" videos. Shows off your personalities and just how much work goes into van life. I cannot wait to see what you get up to as I only have a limited knowledge of what's north of the border despite living only a few hours away from it my entire life. Also, can't wait to see if you start speaking more Canadian eh?
We're so glad you enjoy it! Always a bit scary for us to make something different. There has been plenty of Canadian speak off camera, but we don't want to offend the Canadians and have to say soooorry! 😜
Good luck and a safe drive to this little state I call home! Make sure to take time and not only see but experience Alaska on your adventure. So many come here, check the sites they drove to and past on their maps and preplanned itineraries from that Milepost book that they didn't get a chance to get all that they saw. Hopefully the weather is good for you, its been rather pleasant here in the Anchorage area recently and hopefully you don't need those fuel cans. Keep the rubber on the road! I'll be looking forward to what your take is on our corner of the world! Every UA-camr has had something different to say after their visits.
We are really hoping to enjoy this trip. If we're honest, most of our adventures we don't truly get to soak in because we are so focused on the work aspect. But we really want to soak up every second of Alaska, even if it means maybe filming less to just enjoy it for ourselves. It would be a huge bummer if we left Alaska feeling like all we did was work.
@@AdventuresofAplusK, if you need a campground near Anchorage that is relatively quiet and maybe a little disconnected from the connected cell world for a night or a day. Near Portage Lake to the south of town, about 40 min drive is the Williwaw camp ground. The spots are decent and the spots are spread out so your neighbors aren't so close. Tons of glaciers near by with hiking trails all around. Just carry bear spray. Its my go to quick getaway where I know its going to be quiet and work can't call because my phones don't work. I know you're an online operation but a day here or there can be priceless when its a nice location. Give it a try!
Boy Howdy! When y'all were installing that winder i could here my daughter (years ago) keep saying a little left. No to far! Down a little. Come on Dad, get it right. It looks like rain.:-) Tacos looked mmm....gooooddd. Great job. Glad you have faith in your plans, i always said why bother? Something or someone will come along and change everything. But i suppose...Looking forward. Hope y'all don't get to wet and cold. Next week.
Hahaha yeah Kathryn played the role of your daughter in this scenario! We tend to have 90% of our plans work out, things do change often, but with the van in more remote areas, it's essential!
Now that Amazon owns Whole Foods almost every single Whole Foods either has a locker or an Amazon counter (the counter is even better because you can ship large items)!
Be careful of the frost heaves! From Haines Junction to Alaska border, they can be bad! When you see a slow down sign, or a marker showing road damage, slow down!
Planning takes so much time, but it's soooo worth it in the end! Love the fuel canisters and preparing for the mosquitos. We brought the head nets to Alaska on our trip, but ended-up never using them - didn't need them after all! If you're heading toward Fairbanks at all, be sure to check out North Pole, AK - fun little stop! There's a public library there, too! ;) We stopped there because my daughter worked at a local library and brought something from her library to "trade" with that library. Also, find a farmer's market or small shop and try some birch syrup. Very interesting flavor! Really looking forward to your Canadian and Alaskan videos. Safe travels!!
We hope we don't need them! It makes us nervous how much people talk about how bad the mosquitoes are haha. Thank you for the North Pole tip! We will 100% be needing libraries to work at and upload videos at!
On the trip north, At Whitehorse, take 2 north to Dawson City. Take the Ferry across (west) and drive through Chicken. you will return to your original route just east of Tok. On the trip south, Do take the side trip to Skagway. One way south is to divert off the route at Haines Junction on 3 to Haines. A short Ferry ride will get you to Skagway. At Skagway you should definitely experience the gold rush city, take a day hike towards Chilkoot Pass, and ride the White Pass & Yukon Railroad. Make sure to get your tickets in advance. Its an incredible trip up and over a pass with great scenic views. While in Alaska, there are four things you should do: 1) Drive the OLD unpaved road (highway 8) from Paxson to Denali. Its the original way into Denali National Park. Pleanty of boondocking along this route. 2) Go to the spit at Homer, 3) Drive the old railroad grade from Tonsina through Chitna to Kennecott base camp. Go see the Kennecott mine buildings. and 4) Go to Seward. Visit the Alaska Sealife Center, and by all means book a day long boat ride to Kenai Fjords. Take the longest trip to the furthest point -- not many of the tour boat operators go there but its a much better glacier experience than the shorter trips that just go to Alalik bay, Book the Northwestern Fjord tour - www.alaskacollection.com/day-tours/kenai-fjords-tours/northwestern-fjord-tour/. We also went to Valdez to see whats left from the Alaska '64 earthquake Tsunami and there was just the foundation of the old post office - not much there. The tsunami in Seward remains were far more interesting. good travels and you will enjoy alaska. One more thing - on the trip north, be sure to stop at Northern Rockies Lodge at Muncho Lake. when driving the Alaska highway be prepared for miles and miles of nothing but trees that have been cut back 80 feet on both sides. there aren't a lot of mountains to be seen -- but there are excellent mountain views around Muncho Lake.
Thank you so much for all of the tips! We are super stoked for Muncho Lake, that area looks to be the best part of the drive in BC after we leave Whistler! We are really hoping to make it to Skagway, it'll just depend on timing since we have a deadline to get back to the US. We're marking all of these down as we continue to plan!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Kluane Lake at Destruction Bay used to be a super desireable place to camp. But in 2016 a glacier arm melted and diverted the river, leaving the lake as just a mud flat. It was a spectacular lake, and our favorite after Muncho Lake. One other thing, the Canadians reduced their road maintenance after Burwash Landing. The road is incredibly impacted by frost heave. Plan on driving slowly in this section - people have had the bottoms of their cars ripped out (and a friend dumped his motorcycle with motorcycle trailer when he and his wife were going too fast on that section.). Its about 200 km of frost heaved road all the way to the Alaska border. The Canadians have no one living there and they are still trying to get Alaska to pay for highway maintenance.

Unfortunately Mercedes Sprinter parts and services cost a LOT more than other vehicles.

A lot of this is on the list, thank you! Do you think observation mountain will be too snowy in a few weeks?
There is something satisfying about watching y’all check off each part of your list haha
It was for us too!
You all always seem to prep and plan so well so I can't wait to see everything you find to see and do on your way to AK!
We try! We love giving people ideas of places to visit!
Whew 😅 that window process was nerve-wracking. Glad you got your back glass replaced! The Rotopax work great. We carry them on our side by side for spare fuel. I use the same locking clamp you installed.
Sweet! Ya I like the look of it and it seems sturdy and secure! Thanks!
From many years of traveling, always top off fuel and water when you can. With all of the supply disruptions this year, it's even more important.
Definitely! Great tip!
now this was very informative and mentioned things I would not have thought about, thank you for including this video in this journey.
We're glad you thought it was helpful!
How exciting! I'm so happy for y'all. What an adventure of a lifetime.
Thanks, Mike!
We have been married 42 years and work well together most of the time and are at our best when the "chips are down". You together remind me so much of us at a much younger age. Kudos to you both for getting the new window in.
We like to think we make a good team! Teamwork makes the dream work!
I can't wait to see your Canada and Alaska trip
Very excited to share those videos!
So interesting! I was impressed with those “gas tanks”! I loved your daily trip spreadsheet; cool way to plan and have it ready for when you need it! Can’t wait for the trip and videos to begin!!!
The fuel tanks have been great so far! Still empty, but they are super sturdy on there!
Yea most shops will recommend a crazy amount of unneeded work.
As we said in the video, we do believe that we will need to make all of their suggested changes when back in Texas.
The Alaska Highway is a bucket list experience! If you can plan your travel, try to get to Buckshot Betty's in Beaver Creek, Yukon for breakfast and/or lunch.
Thank you so much for the tip!!
Those cheese crisps are...DIVINE!
They are addicting!
Yeah you've gotta be prepared!
That's good she got her AC fixed! That is important!
My wife and I drove to Alaska in 2017. We used the Milepost, and it was great! It has all the information for gas, food and places to camp. We pulled our trailer and never had a problem finding a place to stay! We did not make a reservation, and we were never turned away!
We are very excited and know we’ll use the Milepost a bunch! We are also curious to find out how the boondocking is there and along the way. Thanks!
Always good to get a second opinion on what your vehicle needs. Smart! And fun Western bit, your personalities are showing more and more. Fun!
Hahaha glad you liked that part!
Another great episode. Thanks
A window again! How sweet that Kona was worried about that repair. ❤
We are super excited! We’ll look into Toad River Lodge! So much wildlife, oh my! Thanks for watching!
I’m so happy the window story finally came to a good conclusion! Looks like you guys are super prepared for your journey!! I can’t wait to watch your Canada videos coming soon!! Safe travels to you!
Thank you Kathryn! We are very excited!
Tire plugs are lifesavers. If one isn’t enough use more. I’ve used a whole bunch over the years in all different tires, never had any failures. I recommend plugging a tire until it isn’t possible, save the spare until absolutely necessary. Great video!
Ok good to know. I’ve never had to use them and hopefully won’t, but I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks!
Yeyyyyy new window 🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾 breakfast time now please 🙏
Finally!!
This video got me even more excited for you three…so close to your very long awaited trip to ALASKA…WOOHOO! 💫🎉⭐️ Take your time, enjoy every minute and be safe❣️😘❤️❤️❤️🐶🥰
We can't wait to bring you along! ❤️❤️
The wallet is still recovering from the telephoto lens haha
That was a random sound effect I found online, but maybe I have a future in that line of work!
You guys did a great 👍 job replacing the van window. Sorry 😞 you had to deal with another costly van repair ! Can't wait to see Canada...wishing you fun and safe travels 💕
Thanks Bob! Can't wait to share what we have been up to in Canada!
The window looks great, but so stressful to do those projects!! Excited to see you jump into Canada and see what you find on the road to Alaska!
It's nice to have a real window again!!
Mad Props on the tacos 🌮. Did not see the homemade aspect coming, clever! Good luck on your crossing! see ya next time.
The tacos were the bomb!
Wow, super impressed y’all fixed the window! Your tip about dog food will save us in 2 weeks as we were about to open up a new bag!! So excited to see the route 😁😁❤️❤️👏
Woohooooo!!! We're so pumped for y'all! We can't wait to hear about it and watch your adventures! Much love to you both and PIVOT!
Wishing you smooth, easy, fun, and safe travels. Can't wait for the next adventure. Thanks for sharing the prep and planning many people don't understand all the effort that goes into making a fun and smooth trip.
Thank you so much! We’re excited and he’s the planning is a lot, but it’ll be worth it we know!
Tip: We found that the cheapest way to get Canadian money while in Canada was from the ATMs at Credit Unions. They had the lowest fees.
We’ve heard that from several commenters now. We’ll try that next time. Thanks! 🙂
Yay! The new window looks great!!! Wow, that's a crazy amount of money for a fix to your braking system. We have heard Sprinter van fixes can be pricey. I need to remember that and not complain so much when we have the brakes repaired on our regular cars. LOL
So glad Katherine's dad can help with major vehicle repairs like that.
I'm sure the Wind is excited to travel to Alaska as well.
Glad to see the window fixed hopefully Kona is a better driver now.
Safe travels!
We're still working on her skills! 😜
Adam & Katherine, I didn't know the ending was PG-13 ;-) Great video and loved the drive thru Oregon!
Sorry! 🙈😂
Adam & Kathryn
I wanted to let you know that my husband and I just spent 2 weeks on a fabulous vaca in Sourh Dakota largely due to your vids from your trip there!!
Yay!! To the new window! You guys prepped really well for the trip. Kona has all her treatos and is ready I bet lol. Safe travels crossing over.
She is ready!!
Glad to hear (on previous comments) that you weren’t ripped off on brake prices. My jaw dropped at the cost you said.
Sprinter parts are MUCH more than a regular car and the work we need to do (eventually) includes more than just brake pads. Our bad for not explaining it more, but the part costs seemed fair on both estimates, but the labor just jacks it up.
Ready, set, go! Have a great trip guys. I’m looking forward to the adventure ahead. 👍
Thanks, David!
I loved seeing your organizational document. What an amazing model. Simple and effective.
It really helps us! We then put each day into an even more detailed Google Doc with notes...no such thing as too many docs, right?!
I hope in Alaska, you can Ride the Alaska Railroad and the White Pass and Yukon Railroad.
Yes that's a good point about the maintenance. I'd rather pay to keep it healthy than when it's sick!
You two are going to have an amazing adventure! We cannot wait to join you! Great job on the new glass and WOW, you saved $4K… I can’t imagine the cost! Excellent planning see you guys next time! ~Cara 😊
Mercedes Sprinters are $$$! We thankfully can shave $1.5-2k off of that by doing the rest ourselves most likely.
For getting foreign cash, it's usually significantly cheaper and easier to wait until you are across the border and use an ATM. If you have an ATM card with no foreign transaction or ATM fees, like Schwab's, even better.
Good to know! We needed some ASAP and didn't want to spend time right after crossing, but we will be doing that if we need more!
Planning a trip is so exciting! I can't wait to watch the next part of y'alls journey!!
We’re super stoked! 🥳👍
Can’t wait to see the Canada and Alaska videos! 🤩 Glad y’all got the van fixed at a more decent cost.. That stuff can be stressful! 😅
We cannot wait to share them!
Oh wow planning a trip and all the prep looks so overwhelming but it looks like all went well. Pro travelers!. Drive safe and see you soon. ✌
It has been very overwhelming 😅😅 But it’ll be worth it!
Hi! We don’t have a video, but we do have a blog post on our website! adventuresofaplusk.com/our-must-have-hiking-gear/ ☺️👍
@@AdventuresofAplusK Great I’ll check it out! Thank you 😊
Excited for you guys! I am looking forward to the Canada and Alaska videos. Don't know what to expect once you get past Vancouver!
We cannot wait! Lots of brand new territory for us!
Cannot wait for y’all to get to AK!! Can’t wait to see your videos of it!! Love Ak! Safe travels!
We are so excited to finally be there...soon!
I can’t wait to see ur Alaskan adventure. Ur going to have a blast. Have fun!
We are SO excited!!!
Hello Adventurers😊😊, Ohhh I can't wait to see y'alls road adventure into British Columbia and the remoteness through the Yukon Territories. I sure hope y'all bring lots of mosquito repellent. I can't wait to follow along with y'all to Alaska! LETS GO!!
We cannot wait to share BC and the Yukon!
😂 funny end!!! And Kona are so happy in the pet store❤ Good job! Can’t wait for the next aventure! And welcome in Canada (my country 😉)
We’re so happy to be in Canada! Kona looooves the pet store 😂
I am SO excited that you’re taking the Alcan! Next summer I plan to drive from MT to Fairbanks, so I’m just thrilled that you will be my “recon!” Be safe and I’m following you every step of the way….uhhhh - well, you know what I mean😆
Uh oh! 🕵️♀️😂
We’re happy to be the recon! Thanks for watching!
We thankfully have survived many days of tons of rain without a leak!
So excited for you guys!! BC is beautiful!! Love that book you got for Adam. Good luck and have fun!!
Thank you Loey! We love BC!
It’s a great hike to build an appetite for the Mooses Tooth pizzeria
I’m sure your going to hit Talkeetna.
Hi! We have all of the gear we use for van life on this blog post.
adventuresofaplusk.com/blog/our-must-have-gear-for-van-life/
You can find the Rotopax and lots of other gear there! Thanks for watching!
Great Video, a lot accomplished
It was a very busy couple weeks!
We are glad that the Milepost was helpful for you! We cannot wait to experience the drive!
🎶 North to Alaska, North the rush is on!🎶
She is a poet! 😜 Home maintenance is tough! We are glad we get to kill two birds with one stone by having our home also be our vehicle!
Cute seeing you guys get flirty at the end. I normally cringe when people over do it- but that was adorable. 💵 🕺🏻 ❤
Hahah we are glad to not make you cringe! 😜
Safe travels I'm looking forward to seeing Alaska
We live in Southeast Texas, where mosquitos are abundant. In our RV, we carry the Thermacell, and extra cartridges on every trip. It does work fairly well, but not so much in breezy/windy conditions. If there's a breeze, you'll likely be adjusting the location so that you're downwind from the unit. If winds are changing directions, not so practical.
Thank you for the tips! We definitely will keep that in mind so the dang skeeters stay away!
Excited to see the Canadian stops! 😁
We’re excited too!
Safe travels.
Thank you!
Welcome back to Seattle. Hopefully our weather holds out while you two prep.
It mostly rained the 2 weeks we were there, but we got it done!
@@AdventuresofAplusK ... Just be careful. And watch out for the chipmunks in the parking lots. LOL
Impressive planning folks!
So cool! 🚐🚩🤙🏽
Ok good to know on the thermacell. We racked our brains for months about the gas cans so thank you!
We’re getting very excited!
I'm impressed you can even make a fun video out of van chores! I flew for my only trip to Alaska, so I'm very curious to see what your journey up (and back down) through Canada is like. Enjoy, and safe travels!
Thank you Michael! We can't wait to share!
Safe travels! Looking forward to the next video!.
Thank you for watching!
I love your planning spread sheet!! I Can't wait for my road trip in June, Maybe I should share my spreadsheet too !! Love the planning. And so glad you guys got a leek proof window!!
We looove planning! One of my favorite parts of all of this!
I need those fuel cans on my motorcycle. Smaller version of course.
They make quite a few attachment options! Not sure if they have a smaller size though!
Excited to see what's in store in Canada
It has been a lot of fun here so far!
Kona says, ‘Let’s Go.’ This is going to be exciting! You guys are neat and I look forward to seeing the only state I haven’t visited. Onward!!!!!!!😁👍
Kona can't wait!
@@AdventuresofAplusK ❤️
Thanks for the video. There seems to be a lot to prepare for to drive up to Alaska. I will be watching along, I would like to do it sometime.
Yes there is! We’ve still got some planning to do, but it is very exciting!
Another great video! Thanks for sharing ❤️
Wait, you can ship Amazon packages to Whole Foods?! I had not heard that. That will be a game changer for us on the road!
Ya we’ve heard about those! We’ll definitely watch out and slow down! Thanks!
Excited to see your epic trip.
We cannot wait to share!
Kona is so cute!! That's all😅 So excited to see you guys getting closer to Alaska!!
She is very lucky she is cute haha!
For the Kennecott drive (3) you cannot drive to McCarthy unless you are a resident. you have to park across the river at Kennecott Base camp location.
