Thank you for your awesome videos,I love how you go step by step with instructions and also was wondering if you could do a video of a rose flavor cake maybe incorporate strawberry in in too, thanks for all that you do!✌️👍
I've been wanting to make a bundt so I can try my homemade cake release (since Pillsbury stopped making their baking spray with flour which was way better than every other brand I tried)..sounds like I'll be doing it soon!
Hi john! I love your recipes, im only 13 but i have been watching your videos so much and even made some of your recipes and they all turned out great! I hope to be a pastry chef when i grow up so thank you for sharing your recipes and tips because they really helped!
I’ll be 13 like two months later, and same! I really enjoy baking and cooking and I really love John and his recipes. I also really want to be a chef or a pastry chef but my parents won’t let me be anything other than a doctor or a businessman😅😅 good luck to you though!

I am 64 and have been making this cake since I was 14. It was my mom’s favorite and my husband will eat the whole cake in 24 hours. The major difference is my recipe calls for a box of yellow cake mix!!!! Everything else is pretty much the same. I will definitely be trying this recipe to see what the difference is. I love everything Preppy Kitchen does so I am sure his recipe is better.
Your husband has the right idea I just tried a slice of this type of cake and thats actually why I'm here so i can bake one. the entire time eating that slice I was in the back of my mind thinking " hmm I wonder how much I could eat... Mmm yeah probably the whole thing" 🤣🤣
Made this today, came out perfect! I needed to add more milk than on the recipe for the icing, and I also used roasted walnuts instead of pecans. Yummy yummy.

My favorite UA-cam channel! The cake turned out so magical, tender, nice and fluffy. Before I watch your video I was telling my husband that I'm craving for a nice cake and bam I see your recipe cant wait to make this beautiful cake love the color of it and the vanilla glaze oh my god 👌
When I was in French class, I would bring treats to class. I brought a Bundt cake once and my French teachers LOVED it! I no longer live where my classes were, but I do have a neighbor who just had surgery so I will make this cake for him and his wife! Thanks for the excellent recipes!
1:13 I remember my mom bought one of these from the store and I was going crazy trying to think of why it was called Sock It to Me😅 but I guess it's just one of those things that don't matter so we shouldn't worry about it😂
Looks delicious, John. I’d be tempted to add chocolate to the pecan mixture and the glaze, but I’m all about chocolate. Wish I could find the energy/motivation.
I've made his cinnamon buns and they are absolutely delicious! Just make sure to have plenty of time to let the dough rise, it takes a few hours bc it's so rich! Happy early birthday dude 😉
I was so excited to see that you were making a “Sock it to me” cake. My mom made them when I was growing up. “sock it to me” is slang from the 70’s I think. It means like...”give it to me good,” or “hit me with whatever you’re trying to say straight no chaser.” So the Sock it to me cake really puts flavor on you....it’s so good! To “sock” someone meant to hit them.
Thank you for explaining the kosher salt reasoning! I've never understood why it was specified or why I automatically halve any salt specified in a recipe! I've been wondering for years.
Oh, this looks so yummy! I can't wait to try it! Did you know that if you have a dishwasher and it is "empty" or hasn't been run, you can open the door, spray your cake pan over the "dirty" dishes and avoid the over-spray getting all over your countertops? Love all Preppy Kitchen videos!!
Lots of good recipes online. Remember you can tweak things to your liking :) Full fat yogurt instead of sour cream if you want. Vanilla plus another extract. Walnuts instead of pecans. Lots of different things and still a great base recipe 👍🏼
Sock It To Me Cake was always a favorite in my house as a kid. If I remember correctly, my mother got the recipe off the back of a box cake. I was reminded about it a couple of years ago and that sent me on a search. After trying two from-scratch recipes, I was bummed. No, no, no! AND THEN...I landed on Preppy Kitchen. This cake is FANTASTIC and one that is frequently requested by my friends and Hubster. It's easy, forgiving, moist, and oh-so DELICIOUS!! I love adding toasted pecans to the top after all that glorious glaze. YUM! John, since finding you, you are my go-to guy for recipes. I fell in love with your first cookbook and cannot WAIT to get my hands on the new one! Thank you for being a part of my kitchen!
I wonder why you always use what looks like a store bought extract of vanilla. Here in the UK we can get these incrediblly thick and fragrant vanilla pods from Zazou's vanilla empoium. I am not affiliated. I love their vanilla from Tahiti, thick and moist and have so many grains inside. I dare John to look them up and start using those instead. I have made homemade vanilla sugar and extract where I combined empty vanilla pods of the kind I mention above and vodka. Yum. For the vanilla sugar I use goden icing sugar. One caveat: you have to be able to add magnesiumsterate to the sugar or it will clump together. That's mine right now. Oh, the longer and the more pods you add, the stronger vanilla flavout
Help me chef ... My cake not baked good One cup flour,,one whole egg ,one egg white, two pinc soda, one TSP baking powder, one cup butter, one cup caster sugar two tbsp vanilla extract But cake was messs😭😭why? Help me
Hi John, I am a novice at baking. I made this sock it to me cake following your recipe except I discovered, on Christmas morning, that I only had "self-rising" flour. Therefore I omitted baking powder and salt from my batter. The cake was a hit with my family - they loved the texture and taste. Is there any reason that I should switch to all-purpose flour next time? Thanks for your easy to follow recipes.
Making your recipe right now and thinking of you and your lovely husband and kids while I enjoy my grand babies. Have a loving and safe holiday blessings to you and yours🎄🎄🎄⛄️⛄️❄️❄️❄️🎠🎠🎠
Hi John! You often say, don't overmix. Is this because the gluten gets tough? If so, would it make sense to use a 50/50 mix of wheat and rice flours, to lower the gluten content?
LOL! I I have been making this cake for fifty years! Yellow cake mix and un-toasted pecans. Now that I have grown up I will update my baking skills and use this recipe. The back of the cake mix box version truly is out dated. Thank you for prepping me up!
Does Brian weigh more then he wants my husband has that problem! When I cook. I've come home to help my folks out. And my poor husband has to cook for himself! I think he misses me! Lol
Thank you John. Your recipes and instructions are awesome. I prepared the bread pudding for the New Year celebration by following your detailed explanation and all who tried it, swallowed the tongue saying that it was absolutely amazing.

I have a very detailed Bundt pan, is there a recipe that will FILL it up so all the detail will show on the cooked cake? Can you just double a recipe??
That one nut that fell on the towel bothered me. Why didn't he pick it up and put it in the bowl? Why waste a perfectly good toasted nut? I can't stop looking at that nut...oh thank God he picked it up and put it in the bowl! Whew!
Hi John. I've tried to bake this cake twice with the same result. When turning it out the cake separates where the filling is. It's seems the cake does not bake together as one because of the filling. Is there a way to put the filling in without it causing the cake to divide when turning it out.

Possibly, someone created the recipe in the '70s, when the Rowan and Marten show was on. One of the frequent phrases was "Sock it to me".
