Ha! It’s funny you showed the book “Dove,” which I read back in 1975 when I was still in high school. Back then I lived in Miami, and my friends and I used to go sailing around the bay and local islands every chance we got. “Dove” was a big inspiration to us and we dreamed about doing exactly what you’re now doing. But, alas, life got in the way--college, grad school, jobs, marriage, kids, bigger houses, never-ending bills.... So I’m 67 and retired now, and no regrets really. But it’s still incredibly inspiring seeing a young man chasing his dreams. In many ways dreams I quit chasing nearly 50 years ago. So thanks for the memories, my friend. And good luck and smooth sailing on your future voyages!
Garrett, I do look forward to your videos. You’re the most honest down-to-earth, sailing videos I believe out there. The good the bad and the ugly, as well as the beautiful… thank you for sharing
What an awesome experience sailing on a long passage on a 45’ Outremer! I would have gone off the experience as well! Awesome drone shots and the audio with the mic was perfect. Great work Garrett stay safe out there and hope you get your boat back in the water and back in ship shape! Good idea in getting two laptops!
Welcome to New Zealand, young man........how ever briefly. I can't believe how quickly you got here! I take it you're not bringing Hooligan down here, which is a pity. Might have been fun to bump into you round the coast here. Hope all comes back together for you.
Aw man celestial navigation is such a great idea! I admire that you recognize that GPS lacks character. Sailing by the stars is nothing less than human tradition since ancient times.
What an amazing experience to sail that distance on such an awesome boat! New Zealand has some amazing sights, so hopefully you get to spend some time there one day.
Thanks for sharing, and glad you got to my country, even though, not for the full tour , and Auckland, yeh iam in the south island, and did go to Auckland once, never again. Hope all goes well, and see you down this way in the future. Cheers, brian in nz.
Was worried about you Garrett! You got me into this sailing content and every week I’ve been looking for your next upload. I’m glad you’re okay and it’s just a laptop! Looking forward to your next video.
Great to see you back here again, Garrett! Hope everything gets fixed and, though Outremer looks luxurious--and you needed the rest, it will be great to see you back on Hooligan.
You cannot come to New Zealand and only visit Auckland! Please come back and head for Nelson in the South Island. One of the worlds great natural harbours, plus a great marina and maritime suppliers there and so much to see and do. We have the Marlborough Sounds, Able Tasman National Park and Golden bay, and that's just for sailing. There are also heaps of cool places onshore too!
I believe I saw a Starlink dish installed on the boat. If so, phones and SL go together quite nicely and you can make/receive calls which is really handy.
Living the dream, enjoy my brother. A free lifestyle that most men can only dream of. I hope to one day have that lifestyle. I hope for many years of content and exciting adventures to witness. Stay safe sailor!
awesome video! new zealand is such beautiful place, hopefully you get to explore more later. recommend goat island marine reserve, and goat island dive and snorkel, sweet place with great people who can tell you all about nz marine and dive life 😁
Highly recommend The New Earth by Echhart Tolle (spelling?) - you can thank me later. Your are inspiring and fun to watch on your adventures. Keep it up but this book will help you more than most.
great catch.A friend of mine found a better way to recover his drone. He landed it on my solar array ,part of which slides out astern well clear of the rigging. His array slid inboard so was compromised by the backstays.I was not amused the first time until I remembered you could walk on them.
Nice way to journey into our land of the long white cloud. Its a shame you are not touring NZ this time. As you encountered downtown Auckland is a construction zone which is why its preferable to be on a yacht sailing around Auckland harbour. Wishing you fairwinds as you sail west in Hooligan
I've seen Dell keyboards get wet with rain or coffee. They have plastic membranes layered, and once you wash away tea, soda, or coffee, the water drying process takes days or weeks. Water inbetween buna sheets. I'd have removed the battery, inverted the laptop, and vigorously sprayed it with distilled water, then shook it, blew it out, and left it open on one side to help drain the keyboard. If you think a keyboard is hard to dry out, try an old 6,000 volt 13 inch tube TV.
Cheers Garrett! Appreciate the work you do on this channel. It’s a bucket list item of mine to visit some of those places in the Solomons and PNG. Be careful though! Also, any plans to sailing to Noumea? I know the upwind journey would be difficult in Houligan..
Just to add to your reading list, is a book called "Gentlemen Never Sail to Weather" by a fellow named Denton Moore. If you can find it, it's a great sailing book.
it's very odd hearing you talk about the Auckland apple store lol, usually you're across the world. I've used them a few times, they're definitely not very reliable!
Hey just curious. What circumstances promoted sea sickness in a catamaran vs a single hulled boat. Is it just a different type of roll? Is it a case of you being thrown or heaved vs wobbled?
You on an M series MacBook now? Edit times and battery should be so much better now. I had a maxed out 2020 Intel MacBook Pro and I replaced it three years later with an M2 MacBook Air and I really couldn’t be happier.
@someguy9778 also Columbus was Portuguese .Portugal had a school which taught navigation. He also was a sociopath instrumental in the murder of hundreds of thousands of Tiano Indians also a child sex trafficker. Wow sounds like some of our current leaders. Toodaloo
You've probably seen the Movie "Apollo 13". The astronauts report problems and symptoms, and Mission Control works on the cure. Understand, there's no such thing as pausing, at least with this stupid android. The screen goes almost completely dark. When you show installations, it needs 10 or more seconds to see the parts. Your fuel tank is a write off. Why not pick up a small tank and refill it often? The tank you have is under the motor. Tear it to shreds and paint the bilge under it. Mount a small solid tank in a good spot high enough to stay clean. Don't connect the fill or vent to the cockpit. Refill it with extra cans. Zero contamination and zero corrosion. Big ships often wash out the bilge with fresh water. If you have to change Cutlass or prop shaft seal, the trick is to get the shaft flange off without fuss. Some people get stuck for days on removing it, but it's a kid-easy task, if you do it right. I have no idea what the seal is or what diameter the shaft is. I hope you measure the drain on your battery. Some boats are dragging a dead elephant around when it comes to battery drain. Celestial navigation? As fast as you can read the directions on a Sperry Astro Compass or a Kollsman Sextant, you're there. Magic navigation? Try an ADF. Automatic Direction Finder. There's even special ones for boats. The AM broadcast band changes radically from day to night. You can also grab a lot of travel information with a CB radio and proper antenna. Day skip propagation can be outrageous. You're connected anywhere on the sea and the power draw is very minimal.
Somebody should come up with a laptop keyboard cover that is transparent and tough enough to withstand constant pecking . I use Saran wrap with scotch tape over each letter . You would be surprised how much fine particle material gets under your keys and keys are a bitch to remove and put back in for cleaning .

Your growth and maturity is very impressive. Great to see you chasing your sailing dreams and sharing your experiences through these videos.
Garrett, I do look forward to your videos. You’re the most honest down-to-earth, sailing videos I believe out there. The good the bad and the ugly, as well as the beautiful… thank you for sharing
You are one of the few youtubers that is a must to see, when a new video comes out.

can’t go wrong with experiences. Especially niche ones like yours 👌🏻👍

Awesome trip. That Catamaran is sweet!
Great to see you back here again, Garrett! Hope everything gets fixed and, though Outremer looks luxurious--and you needed the rest, it will be great to see you back on Hooligan.

Hang in there. Looking forward to your next installment. It's all hills and valleys.

I'm in Kaikoura!
@garrettsadventure Well come check it out! You're only a few hours away by car or a few days by boat.
I believe I saw a Starlink dish installed on the boat. If so, phones and SL go together quite nicely and you can make/receive calls which is really handy.
so good to see you again, Garrett! Buenos vientos! as we would say in Uruguay (good winds)
Living the dream, enjoy my brother. A free lifestyle that most men can only dream of. I hope to one day have that lifestyle. I hope for many years of content and exciting adventures to witness. Stay safe sailor!
Like the others have said, good to see you back.
Keep plugging away young adventurer you’re doing what some of us can only dream about 😊
This boat looks awesome! Glad you got this trip in, even if the original reason was a little frustrating
I would be throwing up all the time and not a boat person but…..love your videos and think it’s amazing what you are doing.
Water damages are the worst. Glad you been back on the YT road.
This was a different kind of video but I still enjoyed it 👍🏻

awesome video! new zealand is such beautiful place, hopefully you get to explore more later. recommend goat island marine reserve, and goat island dive and snorkel, sweet place with great people who can tell you all about nz marine and dive life 😁
Looking forward to seeing Hooligan under sail again!
As always, great video!!
Thanks for the update. Great stuff. Keep going dude! Mucho respect.
The videos are always great and you meet many friends along the way. That’s pretty cool
Highly recommend The New Earth by Echhart Tolle (spelling?) - you can thank me later. Your are inspiring and fun to watch on your adventures. Keep it up but this book will help you more than most.
How is the Starlink? Very glad to see you making progress.
It works great but I have a personal rule to avoid using it offshore. It ruins the experience, at least for me.
great catch.A friend of mine found a better way to recover his drone. He landed it on my solar array ,part of which slides out astern well clear of the rigging. His array slid inboard so was compromised by the backstays.I was not amused the first time until I remembered you could walk on them.
Just subscribed, I was getting tired of some of the other sailing channels that I was watching.
Glad to see you. Hope you can make some more videos and money. You deserve it.
Nice way to journey into our land of the long white cloud. Its a shame you are not touring NZ this time. As you encountered downtown Auckland is a construction zone which is why its preferable to be on a yacht sailing around Auckland harbour. Wishing you fairwinds as you sail west in Hooligan
Ya dude, thanks for the update.
Great video 👍...but don't hold your breath about Outremer....but a smart boat company will step up to the plate....⛵

My first time sailing was when I was 19- 52 years ago on a Horstman trimaran my brother built
Hiii Garrettt!!! Niceee to see a new video againnn❤❤

so awesome that you made it here to nz!
it's very odd hearing you talk about the Auckland apple store lol, usually you're across the world. I've used them a few times, they're definitely not very reliable!
I read Dove, It was a great read. I sent a note to him, he and his wife are still together and living in Montana (I think) Rob
I pray God blesses you with a boat like that someday. Hooligan 2.0
The tea on the computer drives me crazy
Garret you meed a 3d printed handle that fits on your drone alot easier to grab it out of the air like that 💯💯💯🍻🍻🍻
Appreciate the book reviews! Time to go shopping for a Cat!?!?!?
I have atomic habits by James Clear but haven’t read it yet, I look forward to doing so, heard it is a great book.
You freaking RULE!!!!
love these
I wouldn’t wish a week in Auckland upon my worst enemy
Hey just curious. What circumstances promoted sea sickness in a catamaran vs a single hulled boat. Is it just a different type of roll? Is it a case of you being thrown or heaved vs wobbled?
Weird. It's almost like I watched the first three minutes of this video last night...
and the entire rest of it too
Not sure if you have answered this in a prevouis video, but Are you considering doing a full circumnavigation of the world?
You on an M series MacBook now? Edit times and battery should be so much better now. I had a maxed out 2020 Intel MacBook Pro and I replaced it three years later with an M2 MacBook Air and I really couldn’t be happier.
Yep. I've had a Mac for a while, actually of a higher space than this one. M1 Max that I got on an absurdly good sale.
mom garrett uploaded get the popcorn !!!!
Sick bra!
Yes, laptop redundancy 😊
god bless you brother
We sailed till 93 with no GPS
You'd have maps and a compass though
Ahh yes, sailing blind...like Christopher Columbus.
@someguy9778 it's called navigation
@someguy9778 also Columbus was Portuguese .Portugal had a school which taught navigation. He also was a sociopath instrumental in the murder of hundreds of thousands of Tiano Indians also a child sex trafficker. Wow sounds like some of our current leaders. Toodaloo

I go to Apple on Kailua Road. Say safe Garrett.
Hey Garrett, I've been meaning to ask if you've ever seen anything unexplainable in the sky at night during your travels. Cheers.
Not that I can recall
❤❤❤
Thanks!
Thanks
Thanks so much!
Launching that drone looked sketch
Thanks!
I see a larger boat in your near future. lol
nice mic upgrade
Consider reading the impossible first by Colin obrady, maybe you'll enjoy it. About a solo race across antartica
O Garrett the story of my Apple journey, spills and falls. Get a Bluetooth external keyboard and a monitor
Probably asked & answered before, but why don't you upload any shorts?
because shorts suck
@ not for views they don’t

you should have flown to Kuala Lumpur, it would have been fixed in half a day at 10% of the cost .... great service in Malaysia.
Finaly
you should definitely get yourself a proper computer not a shitty mac.
His computer is sick. don't worry
Thanks!
