What you've shared with the sailing community is crucially important information. People will be able to make more informed decisions when they see this series. Thank you so much!
My inlaws went through something similar. Put the boat on the beach, got it pulled off, fixed the cracks, then sailed it down to Costa Rica. The boat ended up on the beach AGAIN! This time it sank. But they refused to let it go. They refloated it, spent a little over a year completely rebuilding the entire interior, then sailed it back up to the USA. Never give you your dream!
Just love the friendship and the support - so so so special for us the viewers to see. What a journey and you guys are still standing, thriving, well freaken done guys, well done!
I apologize that it took the reef encounter for me to find your channel. That said, now that I’m here,I’m here to stay. You guys are truly inspirational and it will be a pleasure to follow along.
We had a similar experience on our boat hitting a rock in Maine. We shredded the bottom of our rudder. Same process fixing it, we learned by doing the repair ourselves. Came out great. Just like yours. Bravo!
What an emotional rollercoaster the last month has been! The cruising community surely came through when the tough times seemed so overwhelming! Bravo to your sailing brothers and sisters. Now on to New Adventures!!!
what a wholesome part of the story. Community really is key, even out on the water! Seeing the fleet come in to help when you were on the hard would have saved you so much time, but also created a sense of experience in the fix, which in turn leads to a renewed confidence in your boat. So swesome!
Well guys what an amazing effort you and your friends in the sailing community put in to get Kiana back to being a totally reliable yacht again and of course your home. I don't generally like using the word luck when talking about boats that have been aground but in your situation I really do feel that luck did play a major part in getting Kiana seaworthy again, when I saw the damage after lift out I totally agree with Alies comments that she was amazed you managed to get to Tahiti. Looking forward to seeing you guys back in the water and carrying on with your adventures ❤👍👍👍🇳🇿
Ben, Allie hi from Calgary. Extatically happy for you and Kiana she looks better than ever, what a great outcome. So many great people gave of themselves to reach this point. Very proud of you for recognizing and giving back to those who can use it most the first responders. Sail on Kiana.
You bought a good boat, worked hard on it to go sailing! Then parked on rocks and had to go thru tremendous anxiety but stayed the course and got it fixed better than it was and now it is time to enjoy! Good job both of you
you rock! maybe too early yet, but what an experience you have had, such a loving and just good people and couple you are! Such an inspiration! Thank you so so very much and as you love, the universe loves you back! Fair winds and all the best!
Well done to you both. My heart truly goes out to you. You took a 💔 of a situation and turned it into a heartwarming outcome. With the help of a small island community and the help of the sailing fraternity, you have not only saved your precious boat but also your sanity and the will to continue on your journey. So congratulations 🎊 and good luck with your future endeavours 😊.
So happy. I found this channel a few months before it all happened, right before the pacific crossing, and it quickly became one of my favorites. I expected watching you guys having the best time of your life in one of the most beautiful areas in the world, but sadly it all happened. I was hopeful that you somehow will continue your sailing journey but I couldn't imagine it will be such a quick recovery. Can't wait to see where you sail next, well done and see you next week.
Woohooo!!! Great job guys! Lot of hard work that doesn’t get shown in a 30min episode so I applaud y’all for getting down and dirty to get that boat back outta the yard!
Yes that's for sure... sooooo many dusty, itchy hours spent grinding in the hot sun.. but nobody needs to see Ben in his underwear and sweat drenched tyvecks any longer then shown haha
What can I tell you, Nothing, you have done excellently, you deserve congratulations. Well done Hooray Que puis-je vous dire, rien, vous avez fait un excellent travail, vous méritez des félicitations. Bravo Hourra 🇨🇦
Lots of comments and lots of help on the Hard, you done Good ! Love the end of this vid. , Allie dancing all around & grinning and all excited She must be one of us🇨🇦 Crazy Canucks ! Yaahooo! Will be watching for you guys soon on the water 🇨🇦Cdn. Dave 🇨🇦
Great video! But, don't pay attention to anyone who says you don't want a cored hull. I would only have a cruising boat with a cored hull. In fact, your core played a role in your boat not sinking. Really. We're so happy for you and your beautiful boat. Namaste. 🙏
Good patch. Happy you're sea worthy again. What I learned patching large holes on a sea kayak that had been bent in half, is that use enough layers patching doesn't half to match the original construction (in your case no foam), completely solves the problem (there is nothing actually different from the original hull) and can go fairly quickly. My 'large' holes of course are nothing compared to what you had to do. I had odd shaped holes so after cutting a stack of fiberglass patches I had to figure out how to align them. Instead I just saturated them all with epoxy, epoxied the tapered hope and applied it like a stiff patch. It was actually pretty easy. I recommend everyone find something to do a big patch on, because once you've done it you can always do it. Your friends are a huge plus. For future surveying I'd suggest documenting inside the hull, fairing etc... whatever a future buyer or insurer would want to see to understand that indeed it's just a hull patch, (with frame, keel, lines, etc.... all still in the original place.)
Good tips! Yes fiberglassing is definitely a learnt skill an we were happy to have our pals show us the way. I kind of look foward to my next (hopefully much less traumtic) fiberglass project. We have a detailed survey from the professional inculding lots of photos of the repair process which I think should cover us for any future insurance or new owner needs.
Im SO happy for you guys! So much more I want to say, but maybe another day. Where will you be next? I have so enjoyed your journey so far and thank you so much for sharing. Truly connecting to your souls and spirits!
I discovered your channel because of your video about the boat crashing onto the reef. I watched because I was intrigued by the drama of it all and wanted to see how you would recover from such a bad event. I stayed and subscribed and look forward to following along with your adventure because of both of your personalities. I think it's safe to say all of us viewers are proud of your perseverance and determination to get through this!! Keep up the great work and stay safe out there on the ocean!! I am looking forward to watching your future adventures! Much love from a fellow Canadian EH!
What a superb job you have done loved following you these past months since I came across your Chanel I hope your back in the water safe and sailing all the best for Christmas 🎅🏻 Paul 😊
Congratulations guys on a job well done! Love the Old Vienna shirt Ben. Happy that being on the reef will just be an exciting chapter in your story. Looking forward to seeing the future chapters of your story.🍻🍾🌏🏖🏝⛵⛵⛵⚓🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
NIce work. Your experience is exactly why an encapsulated keel is the safest. Anyone can make a mistake but this keel and boat construction may very well have saved your lives. This type of boat takes care of you when you forget to take care of it. I love the design of modern production boats, but other than coastal sailing in known waters, I would only have classic plastic. My current boat is an '84 Shannon 43 with a similar hull design for this very reason.
As a distant outside observer, I am very very happy for you. Some miracles involved in this whole chapter. Also great to have The Fleet on hand to lend a hand. I'm sure that cost you more then one case of beer. Fleets usually do. I'm not saying I ever truly lost sleep over this, but I'll sleep better tonight. Stay safe. ❤🙏
Brilliant Guys! You have worked hard and deserve to have your boat back. ... Can't donate, I'm on a pension but I've had my fun out there, Cheers and Beers Guys!!
Awesome to see guys! Only natural to feel the wait of all negative pressure and want to get out. Seeing how you dealt with the situation has been inspirational. Keep on truck'n! Will be great to see where you go from here.
Wow, considering what that hull went through!!!!!!! Just shows you how tough fiberglass is, and, how relatively simple it is to repair. Well done, guys, looks like a full recovery from what looked very much like a deadly accident!
Yes we have a new appreciation for a fibgerglass hull now. Not as strong as Aluminum perhaps, but no rust to deal with, and still strong as heck if well built, easy to repair.

Your patreon link looks to be missing a n. So glad to have found you all. I watch a bunch of the big channels and you all are great!
Your Patreon link is missing the "n" in sailing. Link not working - only error message.
We are so happy to see our products played a small part in helping get your home back on the water! Y'all crushed the repair, great job 🙌🙌
You didn’t just fix your boat, you fixed your home, and your dreams. Great job guys
Thank you!
So very impressed by the sailing community working to get you back on the water.
Yep another shining example of boaters helping boaters

Yep we've gotten pretty tight with our pac crossing crew!
Exactly it’s an experience and that’s why we sail It’s not just for the good times but making it through the tough times to enjoy more good times
I am so happy for you. What a monumental task. You showed incredible strength and resiliency to get through this extremely difficult event.
Thank you!
I apologize that it took the reef encounter for me to find your channel. That said, now that I’m here,I’m here to stay. You guys are truly inspirational and it will be a pleasure to follow along.
Welcome!!
I'm blown away by the hard work y'all put in a few days, she looks great
Expensive boat yards are strong motivators haha. Thank you!
You had me in tears at the end with that beautiful REPAIRED boat!
Emotional closure from the whole ordeal :)
So happy for you guys - and yeh - so good to have such good friends to help you out

Sail on Kiana.
Thank you! I've always found it intersting how many sailing enthusiasts there are in Calgary! Cheers :)
Old Vienna carling O'Keefe beer T shirt Ben is wearing...brings back memories of beer in stubbies !
Ha this is an alternative jersey for a beer league baseball team Ben used to play on called the Goodrats
You bought a good boat, worked hard on it to go sailing! Then parked on rocks and had to go thru tremendous anxiety but stayed the course and got it fixed better than it was and now it is time to enjoy! Good job both of you
Thank you :)
Great episode guys! A real LIFE experience that you will remember and be proud of forever.

@@BreakingWavesSailing My mistake! That makes your experience even more amazing.
Seems like ya had 3 choices,
1: Persist
2: Pivot
3: give up
But damn did you guys pick #1!!!! That’s a lot of hard work and persistence. Amazing
Gençler çok güzel iş yaptınız ..harikasınız 😍❤💋
Many repair videos on YT, This one is special. End of a great chapter.
That’s the joy I knew I would see. So awesome!!!
