The SC: Mid-Summer Cooldown!

  • We needed a break from the hot summer sun and decided to go back and cool down with a gig we did back in January of 2024! This was a cold day with temperature dropping below 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
    The snow and cold always creates an added extra layer of complexity....combine that with a venue with multiple entry's....even a more simple gig can take a bit out of you. And oh yeah...we can move furniture and work around a karaoke system too!
    We hope you enjoy!
    The Sound Couple primarily use PreSonus gear featuring:
    PreSonus UC Surface
    PreSonus CDL12
    PreSonus CDL18s
    PreSonus 32R
    PreSonus SW5E
    PreSonus NSB Stageboxes
    PreSonus AVB-D16

    Nice sounding PA system and nice job on the lights. I am a lighting enthusiasts. Two ideas I had for winter time and in general. One is invest in the power + Bristle Brush head system by Ego. They also have a snow shovel attachment. You can quickly push the snow out of the way. Also for more all season I would in your shoes look at the Boundless Carrier system. A bit expensive but you can lock it to prevent theft and it helps for the sub and speakers amp rack. I hope you have many more successful gigs along with good health and luck. :)

      Thank you for the suggestions.....you would hope that the venues would take care of all of the snow removal needed to support their bands. Thankfully, not a lot of snow this time, but it's probably safe to conclude that the back deck, which is right behind the rear stage and provides the most convenient access to the stage, is not part of their snow removal strategy. Yes, we can use that back door as well, but we are working on very slim margins for these types of gigs and every unnecessary obstacle counts as to whether or not these make sense for us....these are definitely factors we take into account as to whether we come back for future gigs.

    • @axelrod21
      @axelrod21 Місяць тому

      @@thesoundcoupleTrue those factors do play in when rating and future business. I like to be like a boyscout and be prepared for most any weather conditions. As they say "The show must go on." As long as things go well and the client is happy that is what matters. Maybe one day you can have a in person chat or at least a video call to explain about the snow on that side. Often they don't think or don't know the issues till you bring it to there attention. Also explaining the trip and fall and being held liable for injury or property damage gets a fire under them to get changes in place. :)

    As always, worth the wait! Those In and Out "No Issues" gigs are few and far between Glad you had one on such a cold night. Been retired for 15 years and living in Florida now... no more snow and sub zero temps! Don't have to shovel sunshine! Love your videos - keep 'em coming!

    Its winter here (now) as I watch this post and all I have to complain about is some rain and a little wind - but when I watch you in the snow - my, you make me feel so cold. My visits to the US were only in the Spring or Summer, from Maine to Illinois, through Kentucky down to Florida & across to California via Louisiana and Texas. Many great stops and lots of great people. But times are sure crazy now.

    "Working harder, not smarter"? Is that the new theme for The Sound Couple? Of course not! Bart and Stacy do their usual and most professional job at providing production services at this bar gig. Thanks for allowing us to come along for the learning. We see The Sound Couple deal with numerous challenges and they overcome them in a most excellent way. Finding other equipment in the way is the least of their issues. Leaving plenty of time to meet such challenges is a good lesson for all of us.

    • @thesoundcouple

      We agree! This is a very sore topic for us as we were able to provide more of these educational aspects in our earlier videos and we really enjoyed that. Fast forward to today, and it is very difficult for us to even get our videos posted with monetization with the footage you are seeing. UA-cam catches just about anything...if you even burp a lyric of song, UA-cam will demonetize it (they are now able to catch songs being "covered" by live bands)....so every video we post is preludes with a game of multiple uploads where we end up chopping our videos to we find something that beats the system...very frustrating and time consuming....this is why you probably see less of these types of posts. You can do revenue sharing, but you take a severe hit and some music will simply deny you and the entire video is ineligible for revenue...period. A small channel like ours simply can't absorb these kinds of hits...trust us, we are not doing this for the money. It takes tens of thousands of views to start getting into "real money". Our channel fills the gas tank....and the time and effort we put into it is because we love what we do!
      We understand that there is another side to this and we don't want to mess with what artists, bands and songwriters are entitled too, but there has to be a better way....I think we have been a bigger help to them than a determent to promoting music. We are currently working on a video for a local emerging artist...unfortunately, they allow no revenue sharing so most of their material will likely be cut out of our video..so they just lost out of potentially thousands of people being exposed to their music....their loss in our opinion
      Apologies for the long post, but we too are struggling on how to figure it out...we want our channel to be more about just setups and tear downs.....gigs are what we do and the the music is a big part of it and we are severely crippled and need to figure out how to deal with it. If you would like to see some of our videos that hit more on your question, here are some links!

    Hello Bart, sorry that this question is not about this video but I need some of your expertise. I can buy a nice clean secondhand Studiolive16 for a good price (1000 euros) and my question is: Is there anything that you advice against it, it's offcourse the old version of the newer Studiolive 32sc (scribble strips and different layout of the fatchannel knobs). Is it stable in use, avb networking remote etc..?

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  Місяць тому

      I would not hesitate...The additional scribble strips are nice and there technically no difference between the two beyond that. Don't quote me on this, but it is my understanding that they stripped down refreshed models simply to bring the cost down for tariff considerations.

    How do the settings that you get when you soundcheck on the iPad get to the console?

    • @d-rock737
      @d-rock737 Місяць тому

      Integrated wifi, directly to mixer from wireless devices. Most people will use a router for a more stable connection. Which will also allow you to reach longer distances. 2.4 or 5ghz band options. Each digital mixer is a little different, but basically similar. There is a slight learning curve to setting it up. Then you have the option of downloading the software app for direct access to the mixer. I set mine up with an IP address and save to my homepage. Different ways to set it up.

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  Місяць тому +1

      Yes, all devices are connected on the computer network and the consoles support software to be able to control them. When you move a fader on the iPad, it's moving on the console as well.

    • @sound4uaudiovideorecording927
      @sound4uaudiovideorecording927 29 днів тому +1

      @gregmcveigh9966
      The sounds from the microphones do not actually go through the iPad. The iPad is a remote control that will control the mixer, like Bart has said above. But, it’s important to realize the pad is just a remote through the wireless connection . Bothe the pad and the mixer are connected to LAN ports on the router. Hope that clears up any confusion.
