      @@PALACIO254 i moved to the US to do just that. But I got a M1 Garand, AR in 308, and a Henry lever action in .44 magnum. Usually for handguns I like 9mm or my S&W revolver in .357 but the lever action is really growing on me. Its just fun and easy to shoot with decent firepower.

      I was gonna quote him myself but I see there's no need. I'll add though "you just reload and thank Jesus you have an '06 that goes through them 6-7-8 deep." And as far as the garand thumb issue, I think it's also overstated. Might be more of an issue in the stress of combat but I've never had that issue in a range setting, even with cold, numb hands. The bolt closes when you release pressure on the fresh clip, not when you push it down. If anything, sometimes the bolt doesn't close and you need to give the charging handle a good smack to close the bolt.

      Ping aside that is bulls++it, the Lee Enfield is a better rifle: It has a stronger action, lighter, more reliable, easier to clean and maintain, accepts longer (non standard) bullets, it doesn't waste ammo with spray and pray mode (questionable but a US Army study concluded that in war an average of 2% of the bullets reach the target so the answer is not spray more but cool off and take better aim), more ammo in the magazine.

      @@yjwrangler7819 John Garand moved to the US as a child, and was raised in America, was taught everything he knew about gunsmithing in America, and developed his rifle as an American and for an American company. Acting like just because he was born in Canada means something is quite strange to say the least.

    • @weasle2904
      @weasle2904 4 роки тому +182

      @@banmadabon AH yes we should all still be using bolt action rifles, right? Britain must be pretty stupid too since they did the same thing the US did and adopted the FAL right after WW2... Because "spray and pray," right? You're salty a different country had a better rifle than yours... They both weighed the same. Stronger action based on what? The Garand has never had issues with the chamber blowing up LOL. People throw that around and don't even know what it means. More reliable? It's entire action is exposed to the ingress of mud and filth and is easy to jam... Not to mention the Enfield used rimmed cartridges that were prone to rimlock, impropper loading, and more jamming in the presence of mud. Accepts longer rounds? That's a negative, not a positive, it introduces more reliability problems due to a longer action. This is why the 7.62x51 NATO was developed, to shorten the catridge. Comparing a bolt action rifle to a modern semi-auto is borderline stupidity. Of course the Garand was better, no one has ever argued otherwise, except your dumbass.

One of them once told me he had been taught to disassemble and reassembled one blindfolded. My dad told me that back during the 90’s you couldn’t walk into a pawn shop without seeing at least 3 or 4 M1’s in the shop and you could buy them for about 100 dollars apiece. Nowadays, cheap ones start out at about 1000 dollars. I’d like to have one someday but it’d be kinda hard for me to justify paying that much for one. Unfortunately , most of the US Marine Riflemen were equiped with the M1903 Springfield bolt-action rifles . Type 99 Arisaka was better than the Springfield , but also most of the Japanese Soldiers were equiped with the Type 38 Arisaka rifles and anyway they were Banzai-charge minded . Some of them never took a single shot with their Arisakas before they were killed by the US Marines . Moreover , a bolt-action rifle is quite ineffective in a jungle environment , which requires close quarter fighting weapons , like an SMG for example . Japanese had few SMGs at Guadalcanal , the Type 100/42 , which was always jamming . On the other side , the US Marines had the M1 and M1928 Thompson and the M50 and M55 Reising SMGs and they were equiped with those en-masse .

      Meh I never had that issue, mine is super easy to load without clipping your thumb, the rounds are tight enough where it doesn't slam forward on it's own you really need to rerack it and let it slam after

    I'm Korean, and I heard story by my father, that my grandfather used this gun at Korean war. He said, When grandfather firstly got this gun, he said
    'Wow, I didn't know there were such wonderful guns in the world. It is much better than old crude japanese gun. It's amazing this gun can reload once and fire multiple times without pulling the bolt every time. But, it's little big and heavy for asian.'
    All Korean soilders could armed with excellent guns - M-1 garand and M-1 carbine at the war thanks to US goverment's supply.
    I used K-2 automatic rifle when I served in military last year, and I know that the huge developments between M-1 and my K2C1 rifle are all thanks to the veterans who used M-1 rifle at the Korean War.
    We remember there was many foreign sacrifice and help for saving freedom and democracy of small, poor newly indepedent country. We grandly honor all ROK, US and UN veteran's service, we stand in awe of their sacrifice and bravery at Korean War.
    I can't sure my english grammer is perfect, but I hope my meaning has been conveyed to you. thanks.

    M1 thumb usually only happens when you’re messing with the action without a clip. If you have a clip in, the bolt pushes the top round forward so theirs really no way of getting your thumb stuck, since your thumb is on top of the round. The bolt won’t go forward if your thumb is pressing down

    • @Jabberwockybird
      @Jabberwockybird 4 роки тому

      You have to press really hard. It is possible for the round to slip underneath your friend finger.
