I have a repro FG42, and it shoots extremely well. Recoil from the 8mm round is minimal: the muzzle brake is very effective; and the straight receiver/stock design helps. Years ago, when stationed in Germany I talked to FJ veterans and asked about this weapon. They said, pretty much what the video says: great weapon, not enough of them. Though they primarily used it as a semi-auto rifle as in full-auto it was difficult to control.
Difficult in full auto? Also when prone using the bipod? I always figured that the Bipod was needed for such a heavy recoil on the light gun. But I never got the chance to ask if that was true or not.
@@MrDwarfpitcher well the Bipod is because it was designed to replace some paratroopers' Kar98k. They used the semi-auto with it as they also issued scopes with them (at times). The angled grip and Bipod at the end of the barrel reflect that design consideration. However, these features were less favored because they made the full auto less comfortable as bipods on machineguns tend to be better slightly towards the receiver iirc
Well for a gun lighter than the Gewehr 41, I'd expect the Full-auto fire option only being used for close-quarters if they somehow found themselves in those cramped spaces.
This is one of the reasons i love Star Wars, how they used old timey guns and somehow they fit perfectly in a SciFi world, like, the FG-42's grip and stock are used as part of the Valken-38x among other iconic weapons, im glad to also see their using modern firearms for future ST blasters.

The FG slapped on Company of Heroes, but on Wolfenstein? I used cheats just to give myself the FG-42 from the start of the game, the gun is a monster on RTCW, and fighting the Black Guard who used it is the best feeling in the game lol

It's still too many yes but at least they did try to make it a little more accurate. As example by 1943 almost 6000 FG42s were produced, 9000ish in total by the end of the war, huge drop off in production from the allies kicking the axies' arses. FG 42 is still the best battle rifle on the market though, less recoil than a G3, FAL and SCAR 17 at a higher rate of fire in 8 masuer. Although I do like the one InRange and Gun Jesus are trying to make more modern, I think that might be in 308 though.

Roughly 2000 of the S model were made, I personally don't know much about the a model but I have one of the s model handguns. It's sights are built into the slide and non adjustable, but its based on brownings 1911 recoil system, single stack magazine too but the ammo it uses is weaker than 9mm and closer to .380 app in power. Mine is currently inert and I'm in the process of repairing it. It fits surprisingly comfortably in the hand despite being a fairly compact pistol. I've been told that some pictures of nazis holding pistols where they're often thought to be carrying browning high powers they might actually have a Mac 1935 variant.
The MAS-38 appeared in Big Red One, it and the Breda M1930 and the Fusil-mitrailleur Modèle 1924 M29 need to be in more games. Man, older CoD had some of the more obscure guns appearing more often than the more recent ones.

Well researched. The uniforms were especially worthy. Incidentally, I just watched Ian firing the FG42. He absolutely loves it. He bought an MAS38 for himself, but the video of his feedback about it is behind a paywall. Darn.
I remember using De Lisle carabine in Hidden and Dangerous 2, an early 2000-s game about SAS covert operations, made by Illusion Softworks, developers of Mafia: the City of Lost Heaven.
Hm, exactly 2000, when maybe the most underrated game came out, yet it got excellent critics and still have a massive fan group: The Operative: No One Lives Forever (or shortly: NOLF). The DeLisle Carbine (it was called the Hampton Carbine in the game) was the first weapon of used in action. Such a great game, plenty of stealth, plenty of humor, plenty of great background music, and hilarious death screams! 😅 I also loved the 2nd part, No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way (or NOLF2 shortly).
Not really, the british went for "we need this to be the cheapest thing we can make" and as a result is just a cylinder with a bolt in it, a magazine well on the side, a barrel on the front and a "stock" on the back. The type 100 still has a wooden stock.
The Japanese favored mass production over tech superiority so most infantrymen carried rifles and grenades. Rifles are horrible in the jungle given the space constraints and poor visibility.

"The FG-42 was intended to be used as an assault rifle" The concept of an assault rifle didn't exist at the time of the FG-42's inception. It was intended to replace the machine gun at the unit level of the German paratroops.
Was about the time when the MKB 42 was developed. Technically the term did not exist, but the FG42 was made to replace the Kar98 and MP40 in service by having the rate of fire of a MP40 and the range of a Kar98, while weighing about the same as a Kar98
I have a reproduction of a De Lelia carbide. It’s the only class 3 weapon I keep at home the loudest thing is the bolt. The last use of them was in the gulf war, by the SAS.
Owen Submachine Gun imo was one of the most underrated SMGs in the Second World War. Despite its weight and appearance, it was nicknamed the Digger's Darling for a good reason!

I've come across an article about the mostly unknown Marlin submachine gun. I believe that article referenced a semiauto Winchester lever action carbine. John Browning saw the expelled gas moving the weeds in front of the gun and invented a system to make it cycle automatically. There was also an article how the trusty British revolver (Webley or Enfield) was converted to a semi auto. I’ve known about most of these rifles but no one ever talks about them. Finally a video is made about them
Try Forgotten Weapons
Simple History's animations seem to get better and better with each video!
I love using the Commando Carbine in Battlefield V!
Same
wdym, the animations look god awful, probably because they mass produce 100 videos in one day, quantity of quality should be on their channel banner
This game Is Czech treasury 🙂
Best game ever!
Japanese had the same thought as the British about the submachine gun.
*S I D E M A G A Z I N E*
Not really, the british went for "we need this to be the cheapest thing we can make" and as a result is just a cylinder with a bolt in it, a magazine well on the side, a barrel on the front and a "stock" on the back. The type 100 still has a wooden stock.
@@JakCrazyFish sten.exe mad *fights at burma*
As in "Fix Bayonets"?
The Japanese favored mass production over tech superiority so most infantrymen carried rifles and grenades. Rifles are horrible in the jungle given the space constraints and poor visibility.
When hear someone say M1garand I think about that goddamn ping
Who tf said anything about the m1 garand
@@l_alphy It was mentioned as a commom infantry weapon early in the video.

But the ping is a disadvantage, when your enemy is nearby and he hears the pings he knows you must reloading
@@Reupload-Kanal-Von-Lukas-Heil it wont really be heard as there are shouting and other gunshots, but yes it is a disadvantage
6:40 Close, the FG42 didnt influence that gun much. The M60 was based off the MG42.
Yea but many post wwii guns took different elements from various guns. Not just one
M60 was basically the gas system from the FG42 with the feed system from an MG42

its quite ironic that they chose 4 "Commonly" know guns rather than actual choosing some rare gems.

Man the animation is giving me flashbacks. Reminds me of the Last Stand games.
They would've made more Carbines, but had to stop when everyone started calling them the "Silent But Deadly".
Hi :D
Even tough i knew every weapon, if i wouldn't be gun crazy, i wouldnt. Overall great video, i see that you made great research, and you greatly described the weapons, and their history. Overall, great video, and a great channel.
"The FG-42 was intended to be used as an assault rifle"
The concept of an assault rifle didn't exist at the time of the FG-42's inception. It was intended to replace the machine gun at the unit level of the German paratroops.
it more close to a battle rifle like the later G3 and FN FAL.
The FG42’s semi-bullpup feed system would be used in the M60 medium-MG.
Was about the time when the MKB 42 was developed. Technically the term did not exist, but the FG42 was made to replace the Kar98 and MP40 in service by having the rate of fire of a MP40 and the range of a Kar98, while weighing about the same as a Kar98

I see literally almost everyone using the Type 100 SMG in BFV, never knew it was rare.
Owen Submachine Gun imo was one of the most underrated SMGs in the Second World War. Despite its weight and appearance, it was nicknamed the Digger's Darling for a good reason!
I had the pleasure of using a De Lisle carbine at a local club some years ago chambered in .44. Was an interesting thing to shoot and was certainly not silent, had a very strange pop to it.
Probably because it was some custom build chambered in .44, the real standard De Lisle was in 9mm

Canada ordered some thousands of Winchester 94s for their army; they had gum wood furniture instead of walnut. Strange stuff.
Whoa, that De Lisle Carbine is one great piece of work.
