@@finewine256xx One, Metallica is like the most boring thrash band but regardless of that, what metal nerds don’t like fear factory? Fear Factory is literally a djent-y and groove-y death metal band, literally a teenage metal nerds wet dream of a band.
It's good to see Dino getting the respect he deserves after seeing him being bashed left and right for the past 30 years. I'll never forget hearing Martyr when it came out, right there we knew it was something else. Dino is a pioneer, period.
He is bashed for an asshole, not for his musical ability. There's a reason his entire band quit on him and refuse to deal with him.
@@bigguy4u144 Maybe you are right or maybe you're just running your mouth to speculate about a situation I doubt you were part of or a witness to. He's the creative genius in Fear Factory. The other three were pretty much leeching off his talent. I've met him twice ant both time he went out of his way to be nice and totally took the time to talk to me and was genuinely interested. Burton has always been a liability to FF, the guy has never been able to hold a note in tune without studio trickery. On the other hand, Dino has made 4 awesome bands, Brujeria, Asesino, FF, and Divine Heresy. What are the others been part of? Asciention of the watchers, haha give me a break…
@@CarcPazu look there's definitely shit we don't know about, but it comes to a point where there are too many anecdotes to ignore. He might not be a /real/ asshole, but his own ego always causes his bands to implode. Talking to someone for five minutes doesn't change that the people that spent 15+ years around him hate him - and all of them fucking bailed on him - more than a couple of them multiple times. Basically the only person who had the balls to say anything about him was the Divine Heresy vocalist
All of the FF guys hate him (and each other), the Divine Heresy ex-guys hate him, and he's not on good terms with the Brujeria guys either. There's a common denominator here and it's not Burt. Then he shits on Yeung on Twitter calling him a shitty drummer because of IDS - fucking seriously, Dino? He didn't even have a single writing credit on IDS, it was ALL Trey wanting to make a numetal record
I sold Dino some strings and some other stuff when I was working at Guitar Center. No one else knew who he was but as soon as he walked in I told the manager I’d help him out. He was super chill. 2008 was a good year.
29:55 Fear Factory was by far my favorite band of the late 90s, and the first time I heard Meshuggah was Chaosphere, and I immediately thought, "oh wow, this sounds like Demanufacture!"
I first heard FF on the MK soundtrack. They've been my favorite band since.

First heard FF on a game OST for Messiah.
oh man i first heard them at my parents wedding, except it wasn't played for everyone, i got to see all the stuff the wedding dj had and there were a bunch of FF songs mixed in with shit like barry manilow, i think i was like 11 or 12 and i asked him what fear factory sounded like and it blew my tiny mind, everything was so fast and heavy, I had no idea.
I'm so glad this interview happened. Finn - Fear Factory is the most underappreciated band of the last thirty years and it's great that you have highlighted how incredible they are. Demanufacture still sounds incredibly fresh and original today, and yet, so many bands have tried to copy it. Huge respect and thank you for this.
The 7-string god himself on your podcast 🤯 it must be surreal not just talking with this legend, but knowing he likes your channel. My favourite episode so far. And I remember the first time I heard Soul Of A New Machine, still haven’t heard anything like it

Remanufacture! Demanufacture! Ahhh man I got quite a few of my friends into them. Although they grew out of metal within a year or 2 in high school. I however never stopped listening. Can't say that I kept up on FF's albums tho. Just sorta went on to other bands. But always gonna love their first few!

Demanufacture is all time!! First heard it on Carmageddon, many years later a friend played it to me and i recognised it but it didn't click where from until I looked it up. Amazing album
Dino helped the band Crooked with one of their records and they're one of my favorite underground bands. Dino is doing so much within the music industry, much respect

Actually fear factory opened for me the raves)) i was a lot into metal and stuff, and then i heard remanufacture)) so i realized the heavy music is not only guitar based, so i embraced the gabber movement))
I love seeing a reference to gabber on channels like this. I DJ'd for over a decade back in the day - kept bouncing between drum n bass and hardcore/gabber because I couldn't decide what I wanted to do.. until I started jamming them both into sets. Lol

To me Fear Factory did the exact opposite.
I was into Hardcore Techno and The Prodigy.
Had a tape with Guns n Roses, The Offspring, Metallica and AC/DC.
but that was it.
Fear Factory - Remanufacture was my first Metal album.
Demanufacture followed closely after.
To this day I listen to Obsolete from time to time. That album is incredible. Truly incredible.
I remember hearing a remix of New Breed on Test Drive 5 back in 1998 and that got me into Fear Factory. I then picked up Soul of a New Machine and Demanufacture, and I got hooked. Awesome interview, Finn!
If it wasn't for Test Drive 5 I probably wouldn't have ever heard FF, really cool how they used games to reach a whole new audience. I played TD5 a lot as a kid but I remember about 5 years ago while replaying it I researched each band and was blown away by FF and KMFDM, been a fan ever since.
Met all the FF guys back on the Obsolete tour. They were friendly to us handful of teenagers and chatted freely for a while before the show. One of my favorite gigs. And, yeah, Dino is a rifflord all day and night.
5:00 In hindsight, metal being looked down upon in the past served the genre well. It was left alone to grow unmolested by the mainstream. True creativity flourishes within the underground.
I got to see Fear Factory back when they released Demanufacture at a tiny venue in Providence RI called Club Babyhead. Burton signed my copy of Soul of a New Machine. It was such a small place with the stage in the corner and you could spit on it from the bar. That place has long since gone but I have crazy awesome memories of seeing bands there before they got huge. The Fear Factory show was probably number one on that list.

Killer interview thanks Finn! Fear Factory will always be one of my favorite all time band, Demanufacture is a damn classic and I also appreciate the fact that despite the tumultuous history of the band he still recognizes Burton and Raymond as still pivotal and respects what they did. Class act!

Heard of Fear Factory in about ‘01 or ‘02 (give or take) through a game called “Frequency” on PS2. I was about 10 back then. Years later, I heard the records, I’m like “Wow, this band is years ahead of the curve of what we’re hearing now”
I used a line 6 flextone 2 half stack for 5 years & one of the best amps I’ve used for guitar.
Amazing, would've never known Dino played in Excruciating Terror. Great segment with real questions.
Dino! This dude is an all-time great and huge personal inspiration. He’s why I bought my first seven string as a kid, and I brutalized my hands and fingers until I could complete Self Bias Resistor perfectly. And of course, i started playing waaay too many muted tremolo sections trying to be cool lol. Dudes a total hero to me. Thank you both! Loved the hell outta this

My perspective as new young Fear Factory fan at age 10: I got Test Drive 5 for Playstation 1 for my birthday, and after every drag race you could enter in a name for the leaderboard. In my Tips & Tricks magazine I saw that if you entered in specific names you unlocked something. One unlocked a Fear Factory branded vehicle, and the other unlocked the music video for Replica (AUXYRAY). I was blown the fuck away at such a young age. I listened to that music video no less than 20 times a day. I was a fan for life, and seeing them play the entire Demanufacture album in full front row in 2016 was the single best musical experience of my life.
I still rememeber seeing Fear Factory open for Rob Zombie back in 1998. Been a fan ever since.
Became a fan in 94’. Played with him on stage guest vocals for divine heresy.
FF is the reason why I can do anything on the double pedal at all.
The most intricate db patterns back then they blew my mind!
at 55:36 Igorrr is amazing! The main guy from the project is French and their meld of Breakcore, Metal and Operatic stuff is just INSANE!!!!

This was awesome!! I met Dino (and max) thru Jose and they are all such cool humble dudes. I also discovered Fear Factory playing a driving video game and started downloading songs off limewire 😂
Now I buy albums like a good honest adult 😇

Saw FF while stationed in Japan in 2001. Wore my Brujeria hat in the pit. Dino saw me and gave me the horns 🤘🏼
FF might actually be the first metal band i willingly (albeit unwittingly) i listened to a song of on the MK soundtrack way back before i started listening to any metal.
I was like 7-8 or something in 98-99 and listening to both MK soundtracks on cassette on my sister's Walkman.
Currently one of my favorite bands.

Fear Factory is the one band I have seen live more than any other. Their influence hits on all levels for me (I'm a drummer, love the Mexecutioner) and appreciate seeing this interview today. Truly a treat.
Very cool that you got Dino. He is a huge influence on me and a legend. I saw FF only once live but it was for there Archetype record and he wasn't there. I think he did play with Brujeria when I saw them for the first time.
Love this conversation Finn. What I enjoy mostly - and the reason this is one of the only music podcasts I subscribe to - is that you discuss music and music industry with guests that obviously are quite an authority on these subjects, even by simply having a long career and stories to tell, and you get great and relevant insight out of it.
I find myself turning off music podcasts where musicians are asked about their opinions on unrelated topics outside their field of expertise, which are valid and shouldn't be silenced of course, but seem like an overall contribution to how much hard it is to find credible information these days, with the entire internet going on all at once while compromising on accuracy and accountability. You don't waste that opportunity.
Thank you for the interview, it is always a pleasure to listen to Dino, always so honest, direct and down to earth. He is an intelligent guy, with an enviable knowledge of the extreme scene, I love how he remembers and places each important date creating the historical context of Fear Factory. I don't know if he will ever receive the credit he deserves for having shaped modern metal with his rhythmic wrist, as Meshuggah also did as you mentioned (even if they created a monster...)

Fear Factory was stellar. Demanufacturer was a great album (that opening track goes on every metal playlist I make).
I joined his patreon and he mever delivered on any of the perks so I thought he was a jackass but this interview is one of the most honest and lucid ones Ive ever seen from a musician of his level he really seems to be down to earth

The show where he got his stuff stolen was in Philadelphia. I had tickets for thew show, it was rescheduled and they came back to play two nights with hed pe, SOAD and Spineshank. I have actual Kodak photos from that night.

I hate that the original lineup isn’t there anymore I really love Burton singing. And Soulfly is another one of my favorite bands, great grab for the channel man! Oh my god I loved this podcast so much! So glad Dino got his Modded Marshall back! That’s such an intense guitar sound that is unlike any other! Also glad that someone finally recognizes the long term influence Fear Factory from Slipnkot’s self titled album all the way to Mick Gordon’s compositions for DOOM.

Fear Factory's music never appealed to me, but Dino really seems like the kind of person I want to attend a cookout or block party with. I feel like he would be an incredible person to just sit and talk with for hours over some good food.

I grew up with Megadeth's So Far So Good So What and Metallica's Black album. Then I lost my way a bit in high school. Theeeeeeen I played Carmadgeddon and I heard Fear Factory for the first time. It was an epiphany. Real metal again! HOOKED GOR LIFE!
Saw you guys play in Tucson 2007 or was it 09? Whenever it was that was one of the best live shows I ever went to.

I like the jump riffs. The back and forth with a heavy bass.
I always felt a little bad for FF. They are one of the bands along with Pantera and Machine Head etc that created the sort of modern 90s metal sound. But whilst their peers went from strength to strength FF imo didn't get the same treatment.
IMO, being compared to Matt Pinfield is high praise, and I agree with it. Keep up the great content!

I'm bringing back the Crate GFX-212 and the GX1200 half-stack.
I still have my GFX-212, but the effects don't work anymore. I use a Digitech RP1000 to overcome that.
Unfortunately the kids complain that it's too loud when i'm playing on 1...

@@nohalo7 the amp itself. i unplug the footswitch and put the button on the amp. i get no sound. i haven't looked into it to see if something looks wrong. haven't had time.
