"A" you mean one of "the". You have 3 bands from the origin of Melo Death and Anders is arguably the original along with Mikeal, I barely count At the Gates at this point considering they didnt carry the torch and quit for 20 yrs. Fun fact they swapped roles back in the day and we almost had a timeline with Anders singing for Dark and Mikael singing for Flames.

Finn always finds a way to tie an emotional base into the majority of his questions which causes me, as a viewer who also makes music to tear up occasionally. It gives a different light to view the question in than purely taking it in so straight forward. It's what makes him such a great interviewer imo and I hope we continue getting blessed with these interviews.

This would have been years and years ago now.. I'm 41 and Manson isn't making music anymore lol.
Marilyn Manson did this for me in the late 90s. The media was all over him for a while.. all satanic and the way he would dress and use makeup to "shock". The lyrics..
Then I saw an interview with him.. he was wearing a nice suit. He spoke with such articulation and education, I was so dumb founded but how intelligent that guy is.

Yep, not only a sudden polar opposite view on Europeans, but also Finn kinda forgetting how he used to call In Flames mediocre and repetative. Guess personal opinions don't count as you're fake smiling and small shittalk during the interview

@@S7RauzZz This one def felt like he phoned it in a bit, which I don't blame him for. I mean, this was very very probably initiated by In Flames' management. And if I were in Finn's position and got the chance to interview a big name like In Flames, why not? I can imagine Finn being a person who goes into an interview like this very openly and just takes it for what it is.
But yeah, def not the most inspired conversation in this one 😂 By now I feel like I can tell when he's excited for the talk. Examples being Mod Sun, Sonny from P.O.D. or Dean from Archspire. Those felt really genuine to me

Discovered In Flames just before Siren Charms, I believe, and was blown away by their entire catalogue and how I had never heard them until then. Siren Charms came out and only elevated my appreciation for them, and cemented them as one of my favorite metal bands. They always sound like In Flames, but I tell people who aren't that familiar with them that they've had like 3 sounds throughout their career, and the new album is a balance of all of them, to my ear. Still haven't seen them live. So disappointed that the pandemic canceled The Metal Show of the Year (or whatever it was supposed to be called) with Megadeth, Lamb of God, and Trivium (if memory serves). Am always so jealous of the awesome metal lineups I see for European festivals. Wish we got more Spirit Adrift here. That would be a great interview, Finn!

Andres is SUCH a good live vocalist. Good lord, the intensity when you hear him go off on songs like System, Jotun, & Bullet Ride...I am not a guy who normally likes live versions better very often. I value production quality, so for me to like the live version, they'd better bring something special. I.F. does that from time to time, & they are sufficiently brilliant that they are WAY up there on my list of live bands.
And I'm a fan of Anders as a person & vocalist. I'm a bigger fan of his attitude toward anything re. his music--"I like it when we submit the songs for production," and at that point he turns his attention to touring & life, with PEACE in his life. You can't worry about what everyone thinks, or you'll go nuts. In every setting & subject...got to find your own peace.

"This special cheese is on here for a reason" I think that sums it up for any niche/underground band who somehow breaks through to the mainstream at any level but also maintains their original fanbase.
To be honest, At the Gates (since reuniting) and Dark Tranquility have made better, more diverse and interesting, albums in the last 20 years.
Pinball Map is my favorite song from them, but I don't have an album that I can listen to fully. To me In Flames has been a song band rather than an album band.

    • @ignoblesavage5559
      @ignoblesavage5559 Рік тому +2

Yeah, we don't all have to see bands exactly the same way. I have encountered precious few bands who make albums that I love first song to last. I've always had that 1 or 2 songs on I. F. albums that I like less, but...well, to be fair, Whoracle was pretty special re: full album playback, as was Clayman...Reroute was nearly so...but overall, agreed. But see, I'm notoriously vulnerable to burnout, so I'm OK with them being a "songs" band for the most part.
Only band I've loved every song on multiple albums? An obscure, NON-metal outfit called FAIR TO MIDLAND (mildly proggy but not really a genre band by most gatekeepers' standards of assigning genre). Their 1st attempt @ an album was horrible, but then they hit on InterFundaStifle (GREAT songs, bad production, but total ear-worm songs), then Fables From the Mayfly (most fans' favorite) & then their last album Arrows & Anchors...so many consecutive brilliant songs that I've never burned out on.
And I love bands like Death, Cynic, etc., and I have to admit to myself that, although some albums are absolutely brilliant from track one to track last (Human & Spiritual Healing from Death, Focus by Cynic, Character from Dark Tranquillity...or the truly special Queens of the Stone Age albums Songs for the Deaf & my QOTSA favorite, Like Clockwork)...not every album can be like that & I'm OK with it b/c it's probably more about ME & where MY head is at when I start listening to an album.
I LOVE when things get confusing bc a band tries something new, even if it doesn't always work for me (or if it turns me off entirely, like Metallica's eponymous...objectively good or even excellent songs that just pulled them AWAY from me & what I loved about their early stuff (though I never connected to Kill 'Em All as much as the next three). I just appreciate that I don't WANT the same version of a band for 20 years, you know? Even if it means I don't like them as much.

Love the other ones too but Clayman fucking speaks to me. Rereoute to Remain also is one of my absolute favorites. Trigger goes fucking mad, such a great track. Here to second this stuff (even the Acid Bath reference). Search out I.F.'s live versions of System & Bullet Ride for great examples of how live songs can be even MORE intense (when Anders hits the chorus the last time: "Slooooooow, I goooooooo, & the wait seems to be over........"
Bloody brilliant, even for non-IF fans who just appreciate great performance & real DYNAMICS in music (a distillation of the old Pixies soft/harder ethic or style, where the harder parts REALLY going balls-out).

    I like every album
I can jam Goliaths with I Am Above and Playground
Are some albums stronger than others absolutely
This band has evolved over the years and I feel they have grown in that time
The thing I say is you put an in flames song on you don’t have to ask who’s this
They’ve grown without losing their identity
My least favorite album is the very first one and it’s because the technology and budget weren’t there to make the production professional grade for lack of a better term. I own them all and listen to them all. I forget song titles because there are so many and every album has its bangers.

It is not going to take "Foregone" 10 years to become a classic, it has already solidified itself as such!

I am so happy to hear a grown man say “I like Britney Spears and I like deicide.” I KNEW I wasn’t the only one in a Cannibal Corpse tee at the gym, listing to Dua Lipa.

I wanted to hate A Sense Of Purpose and future albums so much because they didn't sound like Clayman. I wanted to hate Come Clarity because it wasn't heavy enough. I wanted to hate every In Flames album that didnt sound like the first album I heard from them. Yet, most of my favorite songs are from these albums with very few being from Clayman. It's like In Flames was put on earth to challenge our minds' stagnation. Also, YE 2024!

Maybe a hot take but I find Soilwork to be the better Swedish melodeath band. They have a much stronger track record with their albums and more consistent in quality.

I love both. I thought like you for many years, but I think Anders' voice is very special. Björn is 100% the better singer and is very recognisable, too. Anders' lyrics also seem a bit more poetic to me, and somewhat darker, more "artsy".
Soilwork to me is more consistent in quality, but when In Flames hit, they hit a tiny bit deeper emotionally, at least for me

Discovered both of them about the same time, and Soilwork still comes up in my listening rotation, but I far prefer In Flames. They're much better at aggressive melody, IMO.

I saw in flames twice, reroute to remain tour and supporting slipknot both in 2002. Even average in flames songs become masterpieces when theyre performed live

Finn I don't understand why you say you don't like bands that mix melodic parts and heavier parts like Breaking Benjamin but then praise bands like Avenged Sevenfold for being able to connect with so many people by doing the same thing??

The last good album they released was Whoracle back in 1997. They sold out to the screamo metalcore trendsters in the 00’s. Guy is a “has been” who thinks he’s “very important”.
