  • This video provides a targeted update and reminder about appropriate infection control processes when caring for a patient that is suspected of having COVID 19. The physicians recommend approaching ALL patients with caution, assuming all patients as potentially infected with COVID-19. When possible utilize the "scout" approach, having only one provider, in a mask and goggles, initiate contact with a patient from no closer than 6 feet. Have the patient mask with a surgical mask, when possible. If COVID 19 is suspected, all providers should don full PPE (gown, gloves, mask, goggles), minimize aerosolizing procedures (nebulizer, CPAP, intubation, suctioning) when possible, and notify the receiving hospital that a suspect PUI patient is being transported to them.
In addition, the physicians recommend using a mask when in public places (not at work), maintain a safe distance from others, wash hands frequently, and clean surfaces regularly. In addition, the concept of "social bubbles" is explained.
