It’s so immensely inspiring to see an actual patient in videos like these. It reminds me why I’m bending over my books all day. Thank you Larry and thank you, Stanford Med!
Way to go, Larry! I hope he's still going strong, now four years later. I always appreciate folks who are willing to let the rest of us learn "off" of them and their troubles.
Please tell Larry he has good wishes from all over the world!! Thank you doctor for this wonderful presentation! I still can't stop thanking Larry enough :)
Thank you Larry!! I hope you know how many medical schools your video is used at all over the country, and thus how many students you have helped learn. Getting to learn from real patients makes all the difference in the world and reminds me what all this work is for. Excellent video.
I just came back from an initial exam for Parkinson's tremor. I believe the nurse practitioner that examined me must have just watched this video beforehand. My responses very closely resemble Larry's to even include the predominance of symptoms on the left side. Best wishes to Larry!
I have essential tremors that are a reflection of my anxiety. Sometimes I think, “Do I have Parkinson’s?” because I shake so bad, but this UA-cam instructional helps me know that I don’t have anything more than tremors
You have risk of having Parkinson (long term stress can effect essential tremors but it isnt direct cause. Essential tremors doesnt mean you are parkinson tho)so I suggest you to get your anxiety in check and stay away from antipsychotics. Go yo doctor to see if you need medication for it. Try to sleep enough.
Talk to your PCP about Lorazepam or Flexiril for your anxiety and spasticity. I'm on both. A genetic condition I have leaves me an high risk for MS or Parkinson's.
Thank you so much Larry Sir for teaching us! I hope you're doing just fine after 5 years! Also Thanking Dr. Kathleen for teaching us and being such gentle towards Larry. God bless!!
This was great, I have been researching "what are the warning signs of parkinson disease?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Piyaliyah Prominent Prepotence - (search on google ) ? It is a smashing exclusive product for discovering how to reverse Parkinsons disease minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate got excellent success with it.
Just wonderful, I've been looking for "what is the drug of choice for parkinson's?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Piyaliyah Prominent Prepotence - (do a google search ) ? It is a good exclusive product for discovering how to reverse Parkinsons disease without the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my friend got excellent success with it.
Thank you Larry, as others have said it makes a world of difference seeing a real person rather than another page or PowerPoint slide! So good of you to take part.
Prior to my diagnosis of PD three years ago I noticed a tremor in my left hand. Because I am a Vietnam Veteran my primary care Doctor scheduled an appointment with a Neurologist. Before I met with the Neurologist I looked at a lot of videos which discussed PD symptoms, but this is by far the best video for PD that I have seen. Thank you for posting it.
Just Thank You, GREAT INFORMATION AND VIDEO THANKS. I'm 62 and fighting Parkinson's, walking and have a part time job. Great Information, Happy Easter. THANKS
This is an excellent video in which not only students and MDs can learn but also the patients themselves and caregivers. This video open to everyone is in the line of the consept of patient centricity. Thank you Dr. Posten and Larry
Awesome video. I'm a family medicine junior doctor in Portugal and I watch this video each time I want to review Parkison Disease examination. I've already recomend it to several students that I couched, Thank you so much
I under went most of those examinations and was given a preliminary diagnosis of PD just before Xmas. We thought my Tremors was due to my Extreme Anxiety and PTSD (both diagnosed). But watching YT videos such as this (& MJ Fox) is helping me understand my situation. The buttoning up process is a real challenge for me, same with shoe laces but it's all making sense to me and my Doctor now. Thank you.
thank you so much Larry, i am a physician from Turkey, and thanks to you and your great doctor, i understood Parkinson's disease better. i wish you good health and happiness in your life.
After years of testing my patients for rigidity for the UPDRS for establishing my therapy POC, I have not challenged rigidity using activation maneuver so I've learned something new and very useful in this video! Thank you, Dr. Kathleen!
I am a medical doctor and every time I watch the Stanford Medicine videos I am overwhelmed by the clarity and methodology. Thank you Dr. Poston, this was a excellent video
Thank you Larry for helping the team get information out! Glad your medication is helping you have a better quality of life! I have a neurology exam in less than two weeks and I’m glad I watched this video! My resting head tremors/shaking 24/7 seriously worsened after trying the exercises in the beginning of this video. Now I may need to walk around awhile to try to see if I can settle them down! Good to be aware that during my exam my tremors may get worse for awhile if these exercises are done!
What an excellent video on examination of a patient with Parkinson's Disease. Simple yet detailed. Organized and easy to learn. Will share with my residents and medical students. Keep it coming!
Thank you so much Larry for teaching us!! I´m writing this as a physician here in Norway. Thank you to Stanford Med, for making this great video! Much appreciated!
This video has been so helpful for me as a student of speech therapy to understand more about the exam for Parkinson's Disease. Thank you so much Larry, for demonstrating, it means a lot. I hope you're doing well!
I would like to see a video demonstrating the exam process for differential diagnosis between Parkinson's Disease and PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). A number of PSP patients have been misdiagnosed with Parkinson's.
Now that I see someone else with these symptoms it makes me think about how my dad progressed. RIP Dad 08/1957 to 05/2016. I remember him doing all of these things.
i had an anxiety freakout about having PD but this calmed me down a lot. i’m only 26 but have a tic where i flex my thighs and it sometimes gives me anxiety thinking about neuro issues .
When I was in my 20’s my doctor ask me how long I have had my tremors? I didn’t realize I had them . When I turned 50 it got bad walking I got off balance and could no longer write or put my mascara on. I went to my doctor they gave me a prescription and told me it was Parkinson’s. Looking back at some family members who were no longer alive. I realized they had it too. If I miss a pill it’s torture. Now even on medication I fall a lot. So getting on a ladder with no one around me is a no no. Thanks for this video.
I looked this video up because I'm 45 and recently noticed my thumb on my left hand twitching. Nothing else at the moment but I am worried. Thank you larry and Dr for this very informative video
I wish i could get help.Im in santa clara county and i cant get a diagnoses! Im 49 and im alot worse then larry its seems shes a very good doctor and shes very caring unlike the doctors at velley medical witch i hear are also Stanford doctors! Im in pain and have major stiffness on every joint in my body but these doctors dont care..I wish you great health larry much respect for this video! Thank you!
All lecture is important but few take home message for Gps and other specialities, 1.bradykinesia is the cardinal character 2.the hardest thing to differentiate is the essential tremors vs parkinsonian tremors Note: it should have part 2 including non motor examination of PD and dysautonomia as this beautifully illustrated lecture has motor examination only for time concerns
Thank you for this information. Larry was a very good patient. I wish him the best. I haven't been diagnosed yet but this give me the idea of what to expect. Thank you all.
Very good examination Dr. Poston; it would be great if you could add a video on non motor signs and symptoms for PD patients or something to raise awareness on non-motor symptoms of PD and its management. This's often not commonly talked about and affect a lot on patient's quality of life.
Yes, you can see a decrease in the amplitude especially in the finger-thumb and the toe-tapping (and maybe others; that's just from memory)@@priyamdalmia5499
Thank you for this video! It was very educational! I've had symptoms of blepharospasm since 2013 and was concerned if I had symptoms that would point to possibly Parkinson's, but following along with the exercises in the video, I think all I have is a benign belpharospasm by itself. I hope Larry is doing well today. :)
It’s so immensely inspiring to see an actual patient in videos like these. It reminds me why I’m bending over my books all day. Thank you Larry and thank you, Stanford Med!
hi fellow doge, parkinsonism interests me as well
