- UPDATE: After a big fuss about it, I asked Francesco and he told me that he does Double-strokes, on the fast double-bass parts.
Francesco Paoli, drummer of Fleshgod Apocalypse, playing "The Violation".
Filmed by me and with permission from Francesco himself, at Bracara Extreme Fest, Portugal, December 10th, 2011.
#FrancescoPaoli #FleshgodApocalypse #DrumCam
the fact that he can play this live is insane. The fact that when he blasts with his right hand, he's getting that hard hitting sound out of the snare is godly.
the violation of drums and physics
Lol :D
And what did we learn?
Don't try to film Francesco Paoli without a high-speed camera.
:D
More beats in one video than green day drummer played in his entire life
Doggerman Live Loooooooooooool
+Luke Cook Depends on which perspective you are coming from. Butthurt fanboy, or someone who knows something about music. It's impossible for music like this to work without being tight.
So yes, how many notes can you put in whilst also:
Sounding good
Being tight
That's what a good extreme metal drummer is in my eyes.
+Doggerman Live (AllHailDoggerman) NOT
+Luke Cook
It does, though.
That amount of beats gives the person listening to the song an orgasm instantly.
+Doggerman Live (AllHailDoggerman) who is that
Read an article about this guy, he used to play guitar for them but their drummer quit. His love for music made him practice hardcore for 3 years... three fucking years to get this good. Dedication at its finest.
i went into cardiac arrest trying to follow his hand movements
He's only been playing for 6years remember that
+Tenshin Daw you're joking? right? o_o
Tenshin Daw o
Oh sh*it
WHAT?!
Is not true
And played guitar on the first album, switching to drums on the second.
By the way, for your information, the tempo of this song in the album is 270.
Still sounds just like 135 bpm to me.
sick drummer, amazing blasts amazing speed...
still impressed that they have managed to replace him with another drummer
I need a cigarette after watching this.
He's Italian, it's natural.
ts like hes drumming like his life depends on it. One of the best metal tracks of all time.
it depends
Love how relaxed he is while playing! So skilful!
I can't even get to a minute trying to cover this song, he's just too much, what a legend!
This is amazing, respect !
blast beat...holy fuck!!!Awesome
Fuck he break the physics
INSANE.
the lightshow gave me epilepsia lol
unbelievable
He is a fucking human gatling gun.
so sick. Have to borrow his left hand..
Nice video... thanks for the upload dude :)
Thank you!
The fact he's only been playing for 3 and a half years means he's bound to slip up a couple of times. Even still, he's miles better than I'll ever be.
saw them at The Rail Club in Ft Worth. It sounded awesome live
"fatti non foste per viver come bruti ma per seguir virtute e conoscenza" beautiful!!
In 2009, the band had a lineup change, with a new member, Tommasso Ricardi taking over vocals and rhythm guitar, which were previously handled by Francesco Paoli, as Paoli took over the drums at this time.
Do you know what IT MEANS ? This guy did a serious job to be a beast like that in only 4 years ! He didn't know nothing about drums until this year (2009) with Fleshgod'. Just for that, he has a great and powerful charisma.
No.1 drumer metal. All of time.
Who is now a guitarist :P (again)
sono dei grandi!!scoperti oggi!!
More hits on snare in this video than I did in my whole life ;-)....awesome
insane!
one of the best death metal drummers around! not to mention vocalist. he's an extremely versatile musician!!
That's why I mentioned that you can't really hear the bassdrum trigger. :)
What a master
He did some vocals for all the Fleshgod Apocalypse releases, plus the Hour Of Penance "The Vile Conception", "Paradogma", and also a few years ago for Tyrannic Ethical Reconstruction.
he don't just hit the snare fast, he also hits it hard. that's what i call trained!
Que nivel..!!!
well said
if you actually pay attention to his technique, you notice that his motion changes when he does doubles and singles, so he's actually physically playing those double strokes, not just letting it bounce and being lazy.
Lol, awesome finding you here, Mike :D
Holy shit...
Este tipo es uno de los metaleros mas disciplinados de toda la historia.
Francesco told me that he does double-strokes. I'll post that information in the description.
i don't know where you found that tab of blasting but blasting is the legs following the snare hand. so the hands alone is enough to tell if he's off time.
This man is a genius who loves his trade
Don't let the camera sound fool you. I was right there next to him, and I could hear the bassdrum, and he was not sloppy. If you watch other videos of him you can hear it.
It's the blinking light that makes it look like he's foots are going 2 times slower. + he's doing heel-toe.
Yes, that's it.
He means because his legs are moving to the speed of the 8th notes, he doesn't understand that each leg movement is doing double strokes (heel-toe) for the fast parts.
No problem ! :)
awesome blast :p
oh and as an addition to the last post: i have them this sunday again at with full force festival and if you don't belive me i video his foot pedals to make it clear!!!
Actually it's Kevin Foley, drummer from Benighted, playing with Disavowed for the show.
That is correct!
I saw Benighted in June at Hellfest and it was one hell of a show, I watched it from the photo pit :)
Do you have recorded Egoism also?
@masmc24 Yes, that's right.
He does not use trigger, its called the "hell toes" technique. He just use it insanely fast.
nice dude
Where?
THIS GUYS DRUMMING IS FROM ANOTHER WORLD WOW!! INSANITY
Sounds like the title of a clickbait UA-cam video
What vocals does he do?
This guy is so damn crazy!
Bracara Extreme Fest, Braga, Portugal
Francessco started to play drums in 2009, thats 3 years experience only.
where is this video?
Envy at top level >_
this guys got a snare hit like a fucking machine!
lars ulrich's student
Ico One other way around
XD
@maxxdaviespart2 Hahaha, yeah complain to the lightning technician who used the strobe light too much... But it goes away after a few seconds ;)
and his doubles are insane! not mention that he does have power behind them
Looks like he had a bit of trouble on the longer blast beats but keeping 270 for that long is exhausting with the power he plays it with
One more second longer and the world would have imploded from awesomeness.
According to Metal-Archives he's been doing drums since 2007.
oh right nice :DDD
@masmc24 He uses Double strokes.
Awesome but.. where were the hyper blasts in the beginning?
I didn't say it was ok to get of time, did I? No one is going to crucify him because he got off time in a small part of the blastbeat section.
I was referring to bassdrum triggers.
My opinion is that there are three levels/tiers of metal drummer.
1. Good/Standard
2. Questionably Possessed/Crazy Good
3. Untouchable/God/How in the fuck is that even possible for a fucking human to do that?
I think we all know which category Francesco falls in.
Just to clear this up, you dont need your heel on the board for heel toe doubles. Just lift your heel as in heel up and apply the same "rocking" type motion that you use when physically hitting the board with your heel. Bam, double strokes.
Hm I didn't know that, thanks for the tip! :)
Even though there are a couple of sloppy parts, Francesco is setting a bar for death metal drumming in my opinion...not to mention the overall quality of Epic music that he helps write in Fleshgod!
#tuseguesmeeusigote - Juntos somos mais fortes !
#youfollowmeandIfollowyou - together we are stronger!
For him its like he's playing Foo Fighters or something ;)
6 deathcore fans died watching this video. May they rest in pieces.
Which band?
Please do that, film his pedals and then send me the link of the video and I'll post it on the description!
rofl are we eventually getting to the part where every drummer sucks? like i saw some comments below saying francesco sucks because he uses heel-toe? Wtf? So if you have skills or knowledge it means you are shit? lol this jealousy
+Hando Rando yeah! heel-toe is one of the hardest techniques on drums
TerrorKilling Z heel toe is not hard. its 80% pedal settings 20% technique. watch a video on heel toe you'll see. I'm not taking away from the skill of Fran. just its not one of the hardest. truly isnt. get a direct drive, tighten your front head, max spring setting, control rebound just like a double stroke roll with hands. MUST HAVE TRIGGERS. hardest foot tech in my eyes is the pressure swivel (not regular swivel) the pressure swivel
TerrorKilling Z not really I was able to do heel toe without even knowing how to drum
Aetigma Facade I agree pressure swivel is unworldly
Doing heel toe is hard, especially for playing without a trigger, yes pedal settings do matter but it is very hard thing to learn. You have to get them clean, the drummer from Lorna shore does heel toe at slow tempos all the way to 300bpm. Most people can't even do heel toe at slow tempos, it's all about foot work and having each hit with power.
His first work as a drummer was in 2007...
He's still a new drummer, give him time :)
I don't agree man, I have to tell you that when Francesco played this, I was overwhelmed... Don't let the camera sound fool you
THE VI-O-LA-TION!
sei un mitra!!!
E pensare che alla pubblicazione del video Paoli aveva circa 6 anni di esperienza con la batteria...
It's called using triggers and heel toe. Francesco does not cheat, Mauro taught him.
if you like a band, people assume you only like that bands style. No, i like alot of drummers, and i like this guy too. i dont solely like just death metal. i like listening to intensely fast drumming just as much as any other kind of drumming. Plus, i like the intense drums in the context of the rest of the music
it's fucking insane this guy has only been playing seriously for 2 years.
Portugal \m/
would be interesting which hand technique he has apart from flying fingers. on the ride it looks like a sort of push-pull thing but on the hihat it looks like ancle only...
how in the world do his arms not get tired?
