I consider it one of those cultural blind spots that American (and some other Westerners) believers tend to have - growing up with Halloween being considered a positive and fun holiday it is considered ok, while Christians from other countries which don't have that celebration as part of their historical culture at all have a hard time understanding why any serious Christ follower would take part in an activity which ostensibly is intended to celebrate some very un-Christian beliefs. And sure you can try to "Christianize" it, but that leaves others wondering why would you? Why not just leave it alone and let unbelievers have their pagan festival if they want to?

I'm from Eastern Europe and I cant fathom ?HOW? can American Christians celebrate this holiday??? To me this is "bipolar" ... I DONT UNDERSTAND IT - how can leading your little dressed up kids through the dark streets decorated with "Spiders, bones, vampires & DEATH" be a good thing?????????? Im absolutely completely lost on how can this can possibly be "GOOD" or "FUN"???? Please, I mean no disrespect, but I truly can not comprehend the logic!

I agree. Why would Christ-followers "Christianize" a holiday that is mainly focused on witches, zombies, blood and gore, things we would NEVER want to actually happen to us in real life. I know a lot of Christians participate in "trunk or treats" at church where kids are simply dressed in princess and superhero costumes, which in and of itsself isn't wrong and I don't want to be condemning toward them. :) But my opinion is that I would rather not participate at all in a holiday (or try to "Christianize" it) that is so clearly mainly focused on things that the Bible would say is sin. That's my two cents, I'm sure it's not a popular one, but that's where I'm at. :)
Love you Allie, thanks for sharing!

@Annath Nokturhl , with all due respect, I would challenge you to read my comments again. I did not say anything hateful. This is social media where we can all have a say, and I was sharing my thoughts. And as for "judging".... I believe that I should use my good judgment respecting Halloween and everything else. Judgment is seen in our culture most often as a negative and hateful thing. I guess it depends on your definition of the word. But I believe that good judgment for how I live my life is a very good thing. We all judge regarding different things and I would challenge you to look up the definition of the word. :)
Also, if you claim to be a Christ-follower, I would also challenge you to read Philippians 4:8. Food for thought regarding Halloween movies. And please don't respond unless it's respectful dialogue, thank you. :)

You dont have to read ANY of my comments, feel free to keep scrolling if you can't read it all. I did not "literally" say that Halloween is Satanic (look up the word "literally"). I said that I would rather not participate in a holiday that is clearly mainly focused on things that God's Word says is sin.

@Annath Nokturhl how???? It seams to me to be the other way around. To me Christian culture is not the same as American culture. In every contry there are elements of culture that are counter to the teachings of Christ. And we are called to reject thise things if we are the children of light - Halloween is the dark side of culture. Thuss I fail to understand its "goodness".

Doesn't it make more sense to bring a Christian aspect into something secular so then they see that Christians are different and their message from God offers hope? Sitting back and doing nothing only enables it right?

There’s no bias. It’s very obvious and when you have conviction/discernment you know this is spiritually dissociating you. The background is easily accessible and obvious: look up Samhain worship. This is a European witchcraft attempt and everything that we modernized is in fact a deity concept of the “thinning of the veil of the mystical and the living” but this should not have to be said. If we saw demons and the angels fighting everyday around us why are we inviting them and slowing this worship to become a part of our soul. It’s very serious in actuality. And if you can’t bring Jesus to the party why are Christians doing it? It doesn’t make any sense to me

I think staying at your house and giving out tracts is a good idea, but I don’t understand how going trick-or-treating is a good idea because Halloween decorations are scary. When I was younger, I hated October because I hated seeing so many scary things while simply driving down the street to school. It doesn’t seem like an edifying event at all.
Witches are real (just not how we imagine them with green skin and a broom stick) and many evil things occur on Halloween night like animal and child sacrifices. (Just wanted to point that out because Allie said witches aren’t real-though I think she just meant the green broomstick ones)

Allie usually is spot on because she actually reads and believes the Bible. However, this time I simply do not understand how the simple truth in the Bible can be completely overlooked. At one point Allie says witches aren’t real, has she read 1 Samuel 28? This along with the rest of the celebration of Halloween in this episode shows a complete ignorance of how real evil is. The devil of scripture is the second most powerful being in the universe. I do not see how incorporating as much of Halloween as you can without being too “scary” is what we are instructed to do. It is not about scary it is about how everything used in Halloween is unholy, it is the highest day of the Satanic calendar. In the Bible all these evil things are treated as just as real as all the good things. Sorry, but it seems very hypocritical to talk out of one side of your mouth about the reality of God and his kingdom and his glory, and pretend that the entire evil realm is somehow make-believe, and use the Bible as your source document. (How Allies’ mom gets justification for the skeletons of Halloween out of Ezekiel 37 is an example of a hermeneutic which in nearly any other circumstance sheet of abhores). Most of the things used in Halloween have meanings anti-thetical to Christianity. The vampires whether you believe they are real or not are drinking blood in direct contradiction to what God instructs in Genesis 9. The skeletons are a symbol of death God is a God of life, John 14:6. Virtually all of these things are designed to instill fear which is also against God‘s instruction Joshua 1:9, etc. And finally witches are band in the old testament, and they are real. If you don’t believe that a lot of these things are real you probably live in a Christian bubble and it will be popped someday.

When I was a child, we would dress up in princess and cowboy or superhero costumes. The only decorating Mom did was the Jack o'Lantern we carved a family to scare away the bad stuff (it was always a smiling Jack o 'Lantern as nothing scares evil like the joy of a Christian). This was the original purpose of the Jack o' Lantern. I decorate for fall, don't get into the scary stuff at all. My ceramic Jack o'Lantern comes out on the 31st, and is out away on the 1st. Mostly, I remember my Dad and his sister as it was their birthday and thank God for the blessings of their lives.

key here is defining what "celebrate" means. Majority of people, including Christians, who recognize Halloween (e.g. Harvest carnivals at church) look at it only as a fun day to dress up and collect candy. Nothing deeper than that... no pagan worship attached, no "accidental" conjuring of evil spirits, no Ouija boards or animal sacrifices. It's a little like the yoga debate... unless one applies the meditation pieces of it, simply stretching and contorting your body on a mat is not a spiritual exercise. Now there definitely is a line that Christians should not cross (aforementioned examples, blood, gore, zombies, ghosts, witches, etc) but let's not over exaggerate the concerns either... people aren't being duped to participate in a religious ceremony simply by dressing as a clown or a cowboy. If anything, some Easter and Christmas traditions also are influenced by paganism as are various movies, songs, concerts and other influences. Remember, man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart.

Modern Halloween is no more “pagan” than anything else. Many people like to associate modern Halloween with three things: The old Celtic New Year’s celebration of Samhain (in asserting that most of Halloween’s customs can be traced to Samhain celebrations); Satanism; and All Saints Day (asserting that the early church established the holiday to “Christianize” Samhain). These associations, however, are more wishful thinking than anything.
Samhain/Halloween is to some people a very spiritual and magickal time of the year; for some it’s a time of fun and candy, perhaps a way to celebrate Fall in general. Still for others, perhaps a time to contemplate their own mortality since the modern holiday mocks death. Some perhaps are not quite sure what to make of it and prefer to steer clear of it, but however you wish to celebrate it….or not - Halloween, in and of itself, is only ‘evil’ if one chooses to make it so.

  • @Emper0rH0rde
    @Emper0rH0rde 5 років тому +6

Halloween is the most secular holiday on the calendar. The way Halloween is understood, in the society of lay-people, is *less* religious than the fake, commercialized, twisted version of Easter that's all bunny rabbits and yellow marshmallows shaped like baby chickens, and has nothing remotely to do with the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Halloween is MORE secular than that. I don't have the slightest problem with young kids putting on costumes, and going trick-or-treating, or even young adults watching scary movies and going to "haunted" corn mazes. *However.* I emphatically believe there's a line between harmless, spooky fun, and a sort of death fetishism, which shouldn't be crossed. I don't want to walk into a gas station, and see a rather realistic mockup display of a decapitated person strapped to a chair. I saw such a display once, and that is not even remotely okay.

I agree with you on so much but this made me sad. Tbh this year was the first year I considered to pass out candy with the Truth on it about Halloween and it’s evil roots. We don’t have to dig far to see that it is pure evil. Walk into any store... but now I’m thinking to avoid it altogether... still trying to decide what to do. We don’t participate in the trick or treating , to be a part of this dark holiday when evil things happen the most. It sounds like you and your mom have a lot of good memories from this holiday and “nostalgia” which doesn’t let you see past it at Gods Word. And yes witches are real. Allie, how about the satanist that said that he is so happy that Christians let their children participate in Halloween?

I grew up celebrating halloween as a child from a Christian home, I felt compromised many times by the evil things that are involved, the homes decorated, the other costumes, the shows, the events at school, etc. There really is no way to celebrate the good, it is a holiday that is centered around evil and its seems to be darker all the time. I've seen Christians participate in darker things that I didnt see Christians participate in when I was young. I have found the arguments against Halloween and many, many verses the Bible has to say about evil far more convincing than what, often seems like, Christians justifying participating in something they want to do more than what is right. When I married my husband and I decided not to participate with our kids. I have found that I have had more opportunity to talk to others because we don't celebrate. Even non Christians I talk to get it, yeah, it doesn't glorify God. We don't reach people for the gospel by becoming more like the culture. And by not participating also doesn't mean we miss opportunities to proclaim the gospel.

This is the song that doesn’t end! It goes on and on my friend. Some people, started singing it not knowing what it was. And they’ll continue singing it forever just because this is the son that doesn’t end. It goes on and on my friend. Some people started singing it not knowing what it was. Too much fear among my brothers and sisters. This is unacceptable to Christ. Fear not, for fear comes ONLY from a lack of real FAITH! Schochtossel!

Halloween is Catholic. All Hallows Eve! just celebrate it the Christian way! ❤ Dress up as Saints, Hand out blessed candy, decorate for Fall (no ugly grotesque decorations), read about church martyrs, pray for souls in purgatory.

Lord save you from your misinformed opinions... Satan runs amok in the modern church kept alive by fear, lack of faith, and the pretense of false teachings! Druids did not know God nor Satan. Nor did the Norse Pagans. Jesus defeated Satan but so many Christians keep him alive. Halloween (Samhain) was a celebration of ancestors to help them rest in peace and driving out evil spirits by being more frightening than the spirits themselves.

Well, I'm Celtic so... Yay! I guess that means all the Halloween dark arts for me and none for thee! Really, I haven't celebrated Halloween in years. Not for religious reasons, it's just not my thing. But since there are no such things as vampires, werewolves, witches, zombies, etc. I fail to see how celebrating Halloween in any form is a celebration of evil as such. It seems to me that this holiday is just an excuse to have fun. And on a side note, wiccans aren't evil. They're funny, but not evil. Also, I love that you used to dress up like Lamb Chop!
