I get on myself often for not being able to do what I use to do. Good things, like ministry and serving others. Or just not being able to handle the “ little” things like tantrums, or lack of sleep, like I use to. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!! ❤️
I am a mom of five ages 21-9. I expected myself to go back to my usual cleaning and cooking schedule immediately after giving birth. I was determined not to wear any maternity clothes either. I regret not giving myself a transition period to just enjoy my newborn. I will never get those days back. With baby number three, ladies from our church brought us meals and I ended up telling them to take them to another mom who had just had a c-section. Maybe she needed them more, but I shouldn't have refused that help.
Allie I love hearing someone relate to enjoying adulthood!! My family would always talk about how miserable being an adult is because of bill and pressure and blah blah blah. We’re low income and both work full time….and yet I have NEVER been more joyful than I am as an adult mom and wife!!! People think I’m crazy when I say I love being an adult. I craved this freedom to create a live that I wanted (and later realized meant submission to Christ of course).
Oh my gosh, SAME!!! I love being an adult. I love my life of being a wife and mom more than anything. My husband is my best friend, and my kids are my joy.
Thanks for talking about raising teenage and adult children. Sometimes this seems harder than when they are young. Not many people seem to address it. Thanks for being honest and not sugar coating anything. Raising kids can be hard work but worth every minute of it.
Oh, gosh , when they're little, it's SO enough to just keep everyone alive! I want to mentor moms of littles so badly because in this age of social media, so many of them feel like they have to do it all while looking good and fit, with their perfect babies who never cry and only wear neutrals with a perfectly clean house and fulfilled husband. My 3 are teens, so I'm not out of the woods, but I feel like I have much to offer others now that they're older.
There is a great scene in the video of Matthew West's song, "Truth Be Told". The woman finds a clean place and a perfect smile. to make a selfie with her daughter. Then they are like two strangers as her daughter runs off and the mom looks at the messy kitchen. Matthew has composed songs to help us keep ourselves in perspective and give God the glory.

Allie, you just made my day!! My 16 year old daughter has always been very strong willed. I have always prayed that it will serve her well in life, and so far it is. She thinks for herself, and she doesn't get easily swayed by things. That being said, she and her dad are very similar, and it's so frustrating to see her not respond to her dad the way he wants. They butt heads a lot. I always have to be a mediator of sorts. Ever since she got her license a couple of months ago, and my husband's old car, she is a different kid, for the most part. She's more bubbly, wants to talk more, and will actually hang out with my husban sometimes. As much as I don't want her to leave me, I have always thought that when she's out of the house for school, she will be the person I know is inside(don't get me wrong, she is a GREAT kid). I feel like she has always craved that autonomy and independence that she'll have once she's an adult.
My older daughter is same, but I'm the one she butts head with. She didn't want to go to college, so she's been working. This year she's been doing more adult things that she's wanted to do since she was 17 and I've been keeping my hands off. Our relationship is so much better. 😅 Parenting is a journey about figuring out how to relate to these individual beings that are your blood. It's hard and so rewarding. ❤
My daughter is 17 and has had her own phone for about 6 months now and her own tablet for a few years. She watched TV at a very young age but the other electronics didn't come until teen years. She hated me for a long time for that because her friends and classmates had phones and tablets, but I tried not to let it bug me. Thank you for doing this episode! I like hearing different opinions on motherhood
Hey, how did you not let it bother you? I'm a young woman and moving towards marriage but all my college friends express concern that they were allowed unsupervised electronic time and dont want to allow their kids to have the same experience, but i know it will be hard when our children feel left out. I love this Allie! My oldest daughter has had the same relationship with my husband, her dad, as you did. It's been very difficult for me but I've been prayerful and patient and now she is 17, almost 18 and they seem to be getting better in relationship. They were so close in the younger years. But in the preteen/teen years she has pushed boundaries and rules big time and it's caused us to be at odds with her. Her and I have been getting closer this past year and I'm thankful for that too. It's been a painful experience. It's encouraging to me that you and your dad and mom are close now. 💗
Love your story regarding you and your father's relationship. This is my story EXACTLY. Growing up, I also struggled with Dad's authoritarian style, which felt like a stranglehold. Now that I'm older and my father has retired and has been able to step back and downshift in intensity, our relationship has morphed into a beautiful thing. God is good.
Haha. I love how sweet Allies Mum was crying so early in the conversation.🥰🤣 We have a general no sleepover rule except for Grandparents. We had sleepovers and some where ok but alot weren't. We put pressure on our Mum to let us go to a sleepover she had a bad feeling about and we got our way. It was not good, the girl had an older brother who was allowed to get out a graphic porn movie and we watched the whole thing. It was so toxic for our 10yr old minds we were physically ill the next day. The images were burned into my brain.
@@OlgaSmirnova1 Maybe at church with a variety of fun activities but only girls or only guys. We have had a great youth group at our church. I think our youngest grandson, almost twelve, might have had sleepovers with members of his soccer team with boys in one hotel room and their moms in another nearby.
Enjoyed hearing your mom Allie! I related to her discussion of managing the father-daughter dynamic as I've experienced something similar as a wife/mom. My daughter is a non-stop talker, now going into broadcasting and very similar to her dad (logical, passionate, etc.). Two years later now, with her in college, the tension is relieved as you described.
When I got my first boyfriend at 18 my parents said my curfew was at sundown, which during the winter was about 5. And he worked until 4:00 the next town over. So all we had time to do was get some ice cream across the street. And on his days off during the weekdays I was in highschool most of the day as well. At the time I was very angry at my parents but looking back they warned me they thought he seemed suspicious. But I refused to not see him and they used the early curfew as a way of protecting me without stepping over too many boundaries. I thank them everyday in my head because come to find out he was an incredibly bad person capable of a great deal of evil. Of course they had no idea how bad he truly was, I think they just thought he was a cheater or something. From 17 to about 20 I was so confused about why they still had a tight string around me even though I was technically an adult. But the truth is I was attracted to really bad people and way older men who wanted to groom me. They protected me until I matured. And I’m so thankful for that. The second I got my head on straight they let me live a normal adult life and that’s how I know their intentions were pure and not to control. Kids go easy on your parents, it’s a hard job .
this was so refreshing allie! i didn’t have a great relationship with my father either, still don’t really have the best relationship, but hearing that you didn’t either for a while gives me hope! & makes me less embarrassed that i am not a completely well put together Christian woman

👏 HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to you and your mom. 🙏 from Saskatchewan 🇨🇦. Iam a mom of two rainbow babies who are now in grade 8 and grade 12 (graduating in June). Iam also in another category that you didn't talk about much; parenting special needs children; in particular parenting teens and adults who are on the Autism Spectrum; who are not ready to live independently and maybe never will be.
Most of the bad things I did as a child were done after 10:00 p.m. For me as a mom- no sleepovers, no devices, no activities past that time. ( unless I am present)
Me and my dad really butt heads terribly when I was a teenager. He was a great dad, but as he had to loosen control of me the older I got, I think it scared him and worried him so he became a little irrational in his “rules”. I’m so glad him and I have a wonderful relationship now that’s healed, but it is hard at that age. Especially because I was a lot like my dad too.
Im late to this, obviously, but I just wanted to say that the proverbs 31 woman had maid servants 😭 and yes there’s dish washers and washing machines but not every home has those - P31W had some help 😭 and that’s okay

My advice as a young adult to parents would be to give your teens privacy. In their personal space, relatio ships, and on their phone. Also, don't take their phone as punishment. Find some other means to punish but nowadays it is not a fair punishment because phones have replaced so much in our lives
I totally disagree with your advice. Phones can be a conduit for incredible evil these days. From porn, to connections with total strangers, to bullying, to indoctrination in all kinds of wicked or harmful ideas. If an older teen shows they are not mature enough -maybe a non smart phone is the way to go. They still have access to texting for emergencies but not all the other garbage with it
Allie bears false witness against Pope Francis! She obviously has never read any of the encyclicals of Pope Francis. Pope Francis never teaches anything contrary to Church teaching or Holy Scripture! Holy Scripture teaches we must cooperate with God's saving grace and repent and bear fruit and forgive others and love one another and persevere to the end to be saved! The false teachings of Allie Beth have made me a stronger Catholic Christian! Allie Beth is in my prayers as she journeys toward Truth! However, I will admit that it is weird that you have no problem saying the gender of your oldest baby, and 2 years later you still are very careful to not mention the gender of your child... It is not even anywhere online. It is just something that I have noticed, and I find it odd.
She is very protective of her children and doesn't share any details about them now except their ages -- she's a public figure, so I don't find it odd at all.
I’m pretty sure she has said she has 2 daughters. We don’t know the gender of her third, which she’s currently pregnant with (at least I don’t think so).

My advice as a young adult to parents would be to give your teens privacy. In their personal space, relatio ships, and on their phone. Also, don't take their phone as punishment. Find some other means to punish but nowadays it is not a fair punishment because phones have replaced so much in our lives
I totally disagree with your advice. Phones can be a conduit for incredible evil these days. From porn, to connections with total
strangers, to bullying, to indoctrination in all kinds of wicked or harmful ideas.
If an older teen shows they are not mature enough -maybe a non smart phone is the way to go. They still have access to texting for emergencies but not all the other garbage with it

I love you Allie... However, I will admit that it is weird that you have no problem saying the gender of your oldest baby, and 2 years later you still are very careful to not mention the gender of your child... It is not even anywhere online. It is just something that I have noticed, and I find it odd.
She is very protective of her children and doesn't share any details about them now except their ages -- she's a public figure, so I don't find it odd at all.
I’m pretty sure she has said she has 2 daughters. We don’t know the gender of her third, which she’s currently pregnant with (at least I don’t think so).
Why is that odd? She has two little girls and maybe doesn't even know the gender of this one yet. 🤷
