@@McbrydeWithaY Yes, these are not compressed h.264 video so RAW Frames take a lot of power in playback. When you press playback, you can select "all" down the bottom instead of exact and it will skip through the RAW frames quickly.

You are absolutely right to go through these settings in detail again and again and again. And not too fast. And if there is overlap with your previous videos, it does not matter. ML is complex enough to warrant repeating things over and over again. For instance, the need to press MENU, at 10:33 here, had escaped me in former lessons, so I have been struggling. Just continue like this. For lack of knowledge, I have stuck to the 1080P mode, but since Shooting SUPER 16-Like Film with EOS M RAW VIDEO I have started to explore 2.5K. It looks fantastic.

Hi Zeek, I can't believe the shots you get out of this camera in 2022!, when it came out it was pretty much hated by everyone for being an underwhelming first Canon mirrorless but I bought one and liked it. I also got the M3 and currently use the EOS R. I tried magic lantern a few times before over the years, but was too impatient with it, like all the weird glitches and options, it was confusing lol. But now with the help of your videos I've got it sussed. Maybe you have mentioned this in other videos, but one gotcha I have found is with power demands, maybe its just my old batteries, but I find that certain lenses draw too much power and ML will glitch out, and when the battery is too low it can also glitch out.
Zeek, quick question: are you using the step up filter adapter on the Cosmicar in order to repurpose 77mm filters you already had? Just bought a Cosmicar and wondering if 43mm screw on filters will start to vignette into the 2.5k...? Thanks!

Excellent work as always ! I used to shoot magic lantern on the original 7D many years and missed that 14bit colour after moving on to "better" cameras. Your vids inspired me to pick up an EOS M and have a play with it again. Funny though, I'm using the same sandisk 512gb card but can't get it to record. I'm hoping it's something simple I've stupidly overlooked as the camera is in mint condition. Perhaps someone else has had the same problem?

Zeek I recently got an EOS M it came with some pretty terrible stuck/dead pixels 😭 do you have a video about how to hide them? If I’m just out of luck I’m planning on returning the camera. It’s put me off from even trying to get another consideration it’s seems like a lottery getting a clean sensor.

Hi Zeek, I just wanted to ask - I followed your setting/steps from this video, and I've got trouble-free great-looking footage. However, when I take the 2192x1072 footage and upscale that to 3840x2160 in MLV app, then import it into Final cut, I cannot seem to get the right aspect ratio... Do you know how to get the correct aspect ratio in FCP for that sized clips? Your help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at a loss as to how to do it. Cheers
That is a 2:1 aspect ratio. So when you upscale and export from MLV App, make sure you're upscaling to a 4k resolution with a 2:1 aspect ratio and not 16:9 or something else. Here is a resolution or aspect ratio cheat sheet: blog.chameleondg.com/post/111891072017/resolution-aspect-ratio-cheat-sheet
Nice video! I'm a little bit confused of what model you are using? Are you using the first model (M1)? I can only find the newer ones to buy second hand and a lot of M100's? What is the difference between those and does magic lantern also works on the newer models?

@@LouisLuzuka 2K-2.3K is continuous. Check my setting later in the vid. All the raw footage in this video were captured with those exact settings. All continuous RAW 😎👍🔥 Even the Kit lenses are nice tbh 18-55/15-45. If you're going manual vintage glass, wider focal is better, at least below 20mm.

For photography I think this camera is brilliant. You can use an external monitor with 1080 and 5K FRTP Modes, high resolutions not so much, unless using the 2.5K HDMI Mode

Do the settings not show up for RAW video if you have a slower speed card? I have an old card 64GB card 90MB/s and I'm not seeing these settings, but I'm willing to grab a new card to do this, was just testing it out today and it's not quite working.

Quality content as always! For the past two years, I am yet to learn the exact relation between two "outer" & "inner" aspect ratio options. I mean by definition, not something only practical. I have searched the docs, magic lantern forum, etc to no avail. Today I learned from you that the gray aspect ratio means the ultimate one, but how it is calculated from those two ones? Does the outer one override the inner one? Or do they both apply on top of each other? Maybe the inner one directly applies to the area on sensor (the pixels software gets) and outer one just crops it in software?
The outer AR can at times Override the inner AR for example in 2.5K mode. Setting the outer AR to 16:9 will cause you to shoot 1920x1080 max. With outer AR off in 2.5K mode, you will be able to shoot beyond 1920x1080 16:9 in 2.5K. So it really depends what mode. The inner AR will always tell you the exact AR.
i'm looking to get my first bit of vintage glass for my EOS-M, what one lens would you reccomend (not too expensive) as the best overall for that nice film look. and do you use a speedbooster with the c-mount lenses?
I love the Cosmicar 12.5mm. Kern Paillard are also nice C mount lenses or Computar, Elgeet etc. These C mount lenses won't work with a speedbooster otherwise they'd become macro-like.

Do you know if the new Extreme Pro SD Cards that allow 300MB/sec open up more options for higher resolution video in Magic Lantern or is ML limited by the camera hardware?
@@ZeekEOSZ The New Sandisk SD cards do up to 260 MB/s write speed (read speed being 300 MB/s), which is more than the 170 MB/s cards which actually recorded at 90 MB/s. Can the EOSM not use these new cards? If they can that is a huge speed increase.
how about 5K anamorphic preset? does it work? what is its default resolution and is its raw recording reliability improved when reducing the crop factor to e.g. 3:2? I'm essentially looking for an anamorphic mode that can give me a vertical resolution of somewhere between 1600-1742. any thoughts?
5K Anamorphic mode is not real anamorphic. It's called that because a while back, the liveview was stretched in order to achieve a certain resolution/aspect ratio. You can shoot in the 1080 mode and get 3:2 1736x1156 or 1600 resolution or so and 4:3. Same as 5K FRTP Mode. You can select 4:3/3:2 and then adjust the resolution to achieve these aspect ratios. With the settings I show in this video, you just select the aspect ratio and adjust the resolution to achieve the aspect ratio you want.
yes, I did understand that about the aspect ratios, but I guess my question is: does it have any mode that can (with a 3:2 aspect ratio setting) reliably record raw video of at least 1600 px HEIGHT? i.e. is there a mode that can record raw 2400x1600 video (or more), reliably?
0:55 to 1:15 are my exact thoughts & primarily the reason I've picked up an EOS M & some vintage lenses. Just need to figure out how to get the mlvApp to give me some useable files to work with
Hey zeek I was wondering if you can help me with something. Im having an issue with getting 2.5k and 2.8k to work. It keeps on showing pink and static in these 2 modes. Is there any fix, ive searched everywhere and ran out of ideas.
@@ZeekEOSZ Now i get some glitching of the pink and glitch. then a black screen then back to pinkshooting 24 fps, I disabled it and shutter fine-tuning. Im using Danne's feb build. its still the same. 5k anamorphic and 1080p work normal. i get a raw detect error. I really appreciate the help thank you.
HI ZEEK. I love your content and thanks for being inspirational. I have followed your settings on my Eos m2 and I have the Viltrox Speedbooster with a 80-200MM Canon Ef Zoom lens. The autofocus works fine but it only records a few seconds before stopping. Im using V30-I Sandisk Extreme Plus 64gb (150mb data) card. Do you think zooming in while filming or trying to focus while shooting is causing it to film only a 10 secs or so? Any help and insight is appreaciated.

Is that becuse of the camera? I wish to imitate that vintage look you got there. Should I get an EOS M instead of the 6D?
The latest 6D ML Build should be from around this forum: www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=25782.0 I've owned the 6D and really loved it. But you have limited lens choices, whereas with the M, you can experiment more, especially with c mount lenses.
Excellent tutorial Zeek, I can never hold the camera as you do to get smooth pans, I am just too shaky so I have to use a tripod with some clever tricks to move the tripod while shooting, thanks for posting this and sharing you clips
No problem! 🙌 Use post stabilisation which is what I also do in FCPX along with these techniques. I forgot to mention I also hold my breath sometimes 🤭

It's shocking to see what a Creative Guy all does because he can affort only small budget Gear, but with hacked Concepts of 2(!) Companies! (Red for their fake RAW Patent and Canon for Crippeling everthing in their small Cameras) Really Wow, that makes me thinking..
After using red raw, blackmagic raw, zraw and prores raw, I honestly cannot see a reason why someone would use raw for fun. A canon with custom picture style and the perfect look in camera is the way to go. Nothing is passionate about seeing a washed out screen and then having to fix it in post.

If for RAW Video, then in MLV App you can get rid of them by selecting Fix Dead Pixels. Otherwise, I'd return it to save the hassle.

What is the one lens/focal length that you can’t live without? Is there one that you always reach for?
Not really. Mainly wide stuff with the Eos m. 8mm, 10mm, 12.5mm or zooms 17-50, 24-70 with IS or even the kit lenses.

@@LouisLuzuka It depends which mode. 2.8K is 2.96x crop, I use it sometimes, but mostly 2K to 2.3K these days, so around 3.4/3.5x crop.

Yes. EOSM202 means EOSM Firmware 2.0.2 which is required for ML.

The Smartphone Recording App I use is called "ASR" voice recorder for Android Smartphones.

Is the live view on the eos m always that choppy? Kind of hard to shoot than. I'm not taking about the playback but when you are actually shooting

You will need MLV App first. You can export prores 422/h.264 from MLV App then airdrop to your iPad, but it's up to you

Unfortunately not. UHS-I Cards are the limit. Write speed is the important one.

5K Anamorphic mode is not real anamorphic. It's called that because a while back, the liveview was stretched in order to achieve a certain resolution/aspect ratio. You can shoot in the 1080 mode and get 3:2 1736x1156 or 1600 resolution or so and 4:3.
Same as 5K FRTP Mode. You can select 4:3/3:2 and then adjust the resolution to achieve these aspect ratios. With the settings I show in this video, you just select the aspect ratio and adjust the resolution to achieve the aspect ratio you want.
yes, I did understand that about the aspect ratios, but I guess my question is: does it have any mode that can (with a 3:2 aspect ratio setting) reliably record raw video of at least 1600 px HEIGHT?
i.e. is there a mode that can record raw 2400x1600 video (or more), reliably?
The max you can get with 3:2 and good vertical resolution is 2608x1690, however, it is only maximum 8 FPS.
After changing the resolution to HD1080P, I can't find the frtp option centered at 2.5K 1:1, how can I get it back? reset?
You can tap once one the screen, or it should be in ML Menu Tab 3 at the top where it says "presets".

Hey zeek I was wondering if you can help me with something. Im having an issue with getting 2.5k and 2.8k to work. It keeps on showing pink and static in these 2 modes. Is there any fix, ive searched everywhere and ran out of ideas.
Check you're not shooting 30fps. Also disable FPS Overrirde in tab 3 if that is enabled or image fine-tuning
@@ZeekEOSZ Now i get some glitching of the pink and glitch. then a black screen then back to pinkshooting 24 fps, I disabled it and shutter fine-tuning. Im using Danne's feb build. its still the same. 5k anamorphic and 1080p work normal. i get a raw detect error. I really appreciate the help thank you.

HI ZEEK. I love your content and thanks for being inspirational. I have followed your settings on my Eos m2 and I have the Viltrox Speedbooster with a 80-200MM Canon Ef Zoom lens. The autofocus works fine but it only records a few seconds before stopping. Im using V30-I Sandisk Extreme Plus 64gb (150mb data) card.
Do you think zooming in while filming or trying to focus while shooting is causing it to film only a 10 secs or so? Any help and insight is appreaciated.
Enable 10 Bit. Your SD Card should be at least V90
Wow! This just make me want to pick up filming! Thanks! I have a 6D and just installed ML and now I´m confused. It´s looks so different from yours and I can´t choose any presets or ratio. Is that becuse of the camera? I wish to imitate that vintage look you got there. Should I get an EOS M instead of the 6D?

I've owned the 6D and really loved it. But you have limited lens choices, whereas with the M, you can experiment more, especially with c mount lenses.

Excellent tutorial Zeek, I can never hold the camera as you do to get smooth pans, I am just too shaky so I have to use a tripod with some clever tricks to move the tripod while shooting, thanks for posting this and sharing you clips

Use post stabilisation which is what I also do in FCPX along with these techniques. I forgot to mention I also hold my breath sometimes 🤭

My thumbnails are shot on the ZVE10. I have two of them. I still do take photos with the EOS M.

What is the crop equivalent focal length on the c mount lens?
It depemtlds which resolution or aspect i choose, but roughly around 3.5x crop. So about 40mm fov equivalent

I wish haha. Developers would need a team to get it up an running, though it's no easy task and can take more than a year if possible.
After using red raw, blackmagic raw, zraw and prores raw, I honestly cannot see a reason why someone would use raw for fun. A canon with custom picture style and the perfect look in camera is the way to go. Nothing is passionate about seeing a washed out screen and then having to fix it in post.
