  • www.vladtv.com - Big Daddy Kane sat down for an exclusive interview with VladTV, where he compared the rap beefs of his generation to those of today. The legendary emcee explains that he feels the rappers of today reach for the guns in a beef because they are too afraid of a "verbal as* whipping."
    The Juice Crew rapper then speaks about successfully incorporating R&B into Hip-Hop, and says that it relates back to the origin of the genre. Check out Big Daddy Kane's full interview above, and stay logged on to VladTV for more exclusive videos.

    I have no idea how anyone who is into hip hop...even anyone who is NOT into hip hop could disrespect Kane.The man had lyrics, presentation (the suits), AND don't forget that he was dancing on his videos too! He was killing it back in his day, and even now his stuff still sounds good.... LOL whatever though....only 10 thumbs down and 1,000+ thumbs up tells me that people know the deal. I have so much respect for this man's music!

      Big Daddy Kane was my favorite rapper. He didn't started dancing into later in his videos because originally he was too cool to dance. Then he started dancing and he couldn't really dance but he tried. I hated when he started dancing but he was still the man.

    I think the difference also is that back then, they were actually mcs who cared about the sport of hip hop.The d boys stuck to dope selling, jack boys stuck to jacking etc...nowadays , hip hop is filed with everyone but mcs.Not to say there are not any mcs but to say that the d boys , jackers etc look at hip hop now as a hustle and not a sport/culture.They bring in a whole different mentality to the game.A street cat outside the game will be a street cat in the game, usually.Blood outside the game , will bring it inside the game ,etc..They dont really know and/or respect the culture or meaning of hip hop.They treating it like a trap or a spot.When outsiders come in ur trap, usually u handle it with violence some of the rappers today look at it like that, in my opinion

    This dude deserves respect.. Listen to his album "looks like a job for big daddy kane" That shit was ahead of its time,, By about 6 years in my opinion. he was a major influence in the 92-98 period.

      Looks Like A Job For was a damn great album that was not appreciated the way it should have been.....his reason for doing that album ...well he said it in the intro....
      you wanna know the meaning of hardcore.....looks like a job for....
      the problem is that many was looking for that west coast sound plus the New York sound was changing...in my opinion that album was not ahead of its time.....it was a few years late and probably should have replaced Prince of Darkness a few years earlier.....it was a superior album to both Prince of Darkness and Taste of Chocolate...he should have just combined those two into a double album in 1990 then released that album in 1991.....i do believe though that his window is still open to a new album........i would get it opening day

      ***** yeah redman and method man even appeared on all eyez on me. "got my mind made up", very underrated track from one of the greatest albums ever made of any genre. the media blew up pac vs big into east vs west, but it also didn't help when snoop went off the rails at i think the BET award show and started screaming at the crowd when he got booed "we don't give a fuck about y'all, we know where we at we know y'all east coast"

    • @juniortim33
      @juniortim33 9 років тому +17

      Not to mention that tupac is technically an east coast rapper hisself, he was born in New York and went to school in Baltimore so I doubt he would've had any real kind of beef with the entire east coast, he just had a problem with biggie and anyone talking shit about him in biggies behalf

    I'm glad he mentioned electronic music and hip hop being together. Ever since the electro craze in the 80s, hip house and Eurodance in the 90s, hip hop and dance music have been consistently mixed with each other. Hell, because most hip hop is made with electronics, it's technically electronic music.

    True wisdom in a nut shell. Hip Hop is a sample based art form that borrowed pieces from everything to create an identity. A musical collage.Once the record industry saw the potential revenue, they attacked with sample clearance and copyright infringements. This is why Boom Bap is missing in todays production.

      tochiRTA very sad ,because also when you really check it out,hiphop -via- sampling and hihop on a whole is a new form of traditionism its an abstract form of tradition -passing on the torch etc… there for should be respected as such even through Law

    • @dabruzah
      @dabruzah 9 років тому +4

      tochiRTA Well ,no I don't think its sad. I am a fan of many current producers. I love Trap beats. I love how no matter what tech comes out Hip Hop finds a way to hack it to make sounds and sequences that resonates within the Culture. I love the fact that they called our culture a fad and we constantly re invent it so that now it is a global movement. Plus when I want to get nostalgic what im longing to hear has already been recorded. Its a win for everyone.

    I like dude's humility. He could have easily ran with Vlad's impression that he was the first to merge Hip Hop and R&B...but he acknowledged those that preceded him...which is smart because, as an example, LL dropped 'I Need Love' before Kane dropped anything.
    Plus, he is right about the fear among emcees to take verbal ass whippings nowadays...and that has a lot to do with the fact that the majority of MAINSTREAM COMMERCIAL emcees in heavy radio rotation nowadays can't see emcees like Kane.

    Facts right here. Verbal ass whippin's. Catz are scared and that's what's messed up Hip Hop and lyricism as a whole. Steel sharpens steel... those verbal ass whippin's make for better MC's. I remember back in the Bronx in the late 80's, early 90's standing and listening to the cyphers on the block, I used to witness verbal assault!! But it never got violent. Catz took their lumps, came back and got better. And I'm a R&B dude. If someone sounds better, you practice. These days there's competition. So collectively, 90% of rappers these days are horrible.

    • @stygiank

    He made a really good point there. How can you criticize R&B being in hip hop when it's a huge part of it's origin? At the same time I think a lot of that criticism came from a time when hip hop and rap were pretty hard or masculine overall so a lot of dudes wanted it to stay that way. But that's missing basically the entirety of the ladies market which is missing a lot of money for nothing really. It's cool to see him breaking it down. Dude is a legend.

    And further spanked VLAD on the comment about why "Prince Of Darkness" was too R&B and artists who went that way suffering. His response is the same one I have always given: because hip-hop comes from ALL forms of music. If you have to ask someone where it came from musically you can't give ONE answer...because hip-hop is everything. As KRS One has always said "I am Hip-Hop."

      JustinBlazzzee drake, wiz, cheif, i call that RAP!!! hip hop is the lyrical original shit! dj premier says it perfectly "it's the real!!! hip hop!! hip hop!!"

    • @JustinBlazzzee
      @JustinBlazzzee 9 років тому +13

      J Angel u call drake wiz and chief keef rap? lol shit……. thats almost disrespectful to the word "rap". anything my girl and all her girls bump, is not rap. rap to me is real, gritty and raw. hip hop is dope shit that doesn't have to be gritty, like tribe. wu tang is rap. drake, wiz khalifa, 2 chainz, not so much. that shit is corny ass pop music with basic lyrics strewn about

    • @BestialMetalFvk
      @BestialMetalFvk 9 років тому +1

      i do agree its pop bullshit crap... but as far as i can remember we used to call that shit hip hop back in those days. gritty or not. kool g rap was raw and gritty and i considered him hip hop. wu tang, hip hop. onyx... all that.

    More videos like this please! I'd love to hear history from some of the greats and the forgotten artists of the 70's, 80's and 90's... Kool Moe Dee, KRS, Chuck D, Whodini, Special Ed, DJ Quik, Chubb Rock, MC Serch, MC Ren, etc... That could for some interesting stories...
    And back to the "Prince Of Darkness" era... That was actually a very dope album, but more people wanted to hear the West Coast version of things at that time. In that era, you saw legends like BDK, Doug E Fresh and Kool Moe Dee drop albums with dope singles but lower sales than normal... However that same year NWA dropped Niggaz4Life and had the #1 album in the country with no radio hits... DJ Quik nearly went platinum that year also... Naughty By Nature outta Jersey had monster hits and a platinum album that year... It was like a changing of the guard in 91-92 as far as popularity and sales go

    I had the high top fade with the bridge in the front like Kane in 91 , 92 era I’m like 14 15 at the time . He had the swag you wanted to emulate as a youngster. No lie I seen a uniformed Chicago police lady get into a limo with Kane. Five minutes later the limo was rocking , South side of Chicago in 91. Facts

    Love Big Daddy Kane...believe it or not, I would listen to BDK, Eric B. and Rakim, BDP back in the 80's and I would memorize the songs, and I believe to this day it helped me remember stuff in school. It really kept your memory sharp.

      @King__XL 9 років тому +1

      Ronald Austin Aye that was a great song and a classic as well but "I feel for you" was originally done by price and Melly Mell only did the hook on it which came from the song Step Off by (him) Grand Master Flash and the furious 5. Friends was a original song and Rakim actually had a verse and he was in the video, so that's why I said first "official" collaboration. But it's true that "I feel for you" was the first to embrace Rap/Hip-hop.

    Whoever the interviewer is... He needs to go back to the drawing board with his questions. The MAJORITY of Hip Hop, PARTICULARLY from back when Hip Hop evolved was from rhyming over R&B!!!! BDK seemed bored and so was I with the interviewer.
    Big Daddy Kane IS A LEGEND!!!!
    He's presently performing with an R&B band backing him!!!!!!
    Hey VLAD... Hire someone with Hip Hop knowledge instead of these prepared, under-valed questions you're asking OUR Hip Hop legends.

    If only rappers today had the same finesse and smoothness that Big Daddy Kane has. He's a genuine guy that doesn't feel the need to exert his masculinity by acting all 'gangsta' like these rappers nowadays are doing. Plus he knows how to dress well :)
