- www.vladtv.com - Big Daddy Kane reflected on his Hip Hop roots beginning as a Battle Rapper in this clip from his exclusive interview with VladTV Battle Rap Journalist Michael Hughes.
Kane recalled battling at a young age back in the early 1980's, and how he once challenged Kool Moe Dee to battle. The challenge came while Kane was attending Park West High School back in 1983, following Kool Moe Dee's battle vs. Busy Bee. According to Kane, Kool Moe Dee refused to accept his challenge because at the time, Kool Moe Dee didn't think that Kane was at his level.
Kane later revealed how he wound up getting a label deal after battling Biz Markie. Apparently Kane beat Biz, and the two of them began working together following their respectfully competitive lyrical match. - Розваги

In "There's a God on the Mic" by Kool Moe Dee, he talks about this kid asking for a battle. KMD walked away and found out later that dude was Kane. If you read that book, and listen to this conversation, neither of them think KMD backed down. KMD likely saw it as a lose/lose proposition. Kane winning isn't a plausible scenario, he was a kid and KMD in his prime, but KMD losing to a kid would have killed him, and KMD winning would have made him look a bully.

An MC and lyricist put more focus into the rhyme , wordplay and heavy mental versus a rapper focus more on a dope beat and paper chase.
@lamar rose I think an MC is more the traditional style of rhyming where it was mostly entertainment based on the set that you were hosting. Party MC's who rapped about the DJ who played the party records and had some very simple but hype one liners that would just make the crowd cheer and scream. Crowd control !
A lyricists would be more considered what Rakim, BDK, Kool G Rap and others do with complex lines and rhyme schemes to make your mind take a step back and think about what was just said. A display of intelligence and skill that you work to put together.
A rapper would be more considered commercial based where he is already signed to a label, is popular and brags about his success and glorifies certain aspects of his career that may or may not be positive.
I think most of it comes down to the era and time where you come from. An MC as far back as the 90's could be successful but not necessarily sell out for the money whereas the rapper would always sell out for a good deal. But it's not limited to these two factors. An MC today can be a combination of a good crowd pleaser and be lyrical that has everything going for himself and be just as much of a rapper and crossover to that mainstream while a rapper like what we hear today may be able to be a good MC ( crowd control ) but may not have the skill and intelligence to be a good lyricists.
Too many elements to break down and many intricacies that make up that element.
