If you call an Uber car-one of the security measures used to make sure you're getting in the correct car is that you know the driver's name, and the driver knows the passenger's name.

But yes, she could've and should've verified his license plate and name just to be sure. But he too by refusing to say her name is acting pretty shady since that info he should have.
As to her "jumping in his car to request info and feeling offended" she's again following the protocol that the "What's My Name" movement asks. Him not wanting to give her a name or at least ask HER to say her own name (to see if it matched the name he has) is a red flag to me.
And that is NOTHING like a burglar calling the cops on a homeowner (but even then there is only so much force a homeowner is allowed to use unless the burglar has a weapon) The burglar was in the process of a crime while the "What's My Name" movement was literally born because a COLLEGE GIRL got murdered. If you're picking up a random person trying to get a free ride, then good luck to them going to the boondocks or some random location because if it's not the right person, then they don't know where they're getting dropped off and it would be sketchy if they tried to change the destination halfway through.
Plus, don't we have the contact info on both sides? The right person will call eventually or the driver can call to verify.
I don't see the problem. It's literally a 2 sec question to verify. If a driver is that rude about doing what is technically Uber policy, that's a red flag to me.
BUT that said, I do agree that it should be required for rideshare drivers to share their photo as well to avoid these things...
I've been asked this many times by a Pax. I explain to them that ot is a matter of my safety. They have plenty of info on me, including a photo. I have zero info on them. I say her name and no matter.who she really is, she says "yes". Never had a further argument.

I did rideshare for three years. My customers would come in and ask like this girl and I would say my name, ask hers and we would be on our way. No personal information was exchanged after this and all was well 98% of the time.

Kinda not true. The plate could be valid but the "driver" could be a different person. This actually happened with me when the guy on the app was different from the actual driver that showed up in the car and I refused to get in. I later complained about the same to Uber & then they started a full fledged investigation only to find out this guy had been driving on another man's documents.

In her defense,the Uber driver is supposed to say the name of the passenger. For his safety and hers👍
Well, if he had said her name, then the girl could just agree even if it’s not their name and take someone else’s ride and scam him, so as he said, if she wanted to confirm she could look at the license plate, and she had to confirm his name so he wouldn’t get scammed.
He should say his name and ask what is her name.

@@TheRealCalijokes01 it’s in the ride/job description, the person who orders the ride will have their name show up to the driver, and the drivers name will be given to the passenger, and they are used to make sure that it is the right person so that the passenger doesn’t get in the wrong car and so that someone else random doesn’t take the ride for free

As an Uber driver I do not even unlock the door unless the person tells me their name. He should not have let them in until the identification was established. On both sides.
Even when they Ask my name up front I still get theirs before that door is unlocked. The world is full of unstable people in this day and time.

People use the Uber app and schedule a ride with their payment card attached..
Driver shows up, waits for the rider..
This girl sees the waiting driver, hops in to pretend she is the customer..
If Driver says "are you Ethel", she'll say "yup, that's me, lets go.. but can we stop [here] (her desired delivery) on the way?" She disappears at the new stop, original customer gets charged for the ride they're still waiting for..
Driver should say the actual customer name, then say "OK, I said your name like you asked, but I'm not charging you or driving anywhere until you say MY name or show me your reservation on your phone app".
She'll say "I forgot your name, and my phone died".. he needs charge cords for iPhone and android, to say "here, plug in and then show me your app". Meanwhile, he needs to send a message through the app to the customer - "I'm here, are you? Someone is in my car trying to take your ride".

@ElvenJusticeAfter the driver has said « her » name (which is in fact the true customer’s name), she can just say « yes, that’s my name », which the name clearly isn’t. The driver will end up taking someone who is not at all a client.

I never ask the passengers name. Anyone can agree "yeah that's me" I ask them who the ride is for and if they give me the wrong name, it's a cancel

@@Slifee if i understood her correctly, missJessie is an uber driver and she is talking about identifying the passenger. she isnt talking about identifying the driver. she says that if she asks "are you Amanda?" anyone can answer "yes" so jessie directly asks who the ride is for to avoid getting scammed.
