  • This episode we start out with some railfanning of my GP40-2. I know some scenes aren't fully realistic, just know Ill get better with how I control my locomotive lol. We sorta install the crossing flashers but I fail in a big way. Sidewalks are also added. I will wait to take my time figuring out how I will do the sidewalks over the 3 tracks. Hope everyone enjoys!

    Great tutorial video as always TR and the sidewalks turned out great! I know it was a bummer that the RxR lights didn't work w the Just Plug box but you'll get it. Like Bob Ross always said "No Mistakes Just Happy Accidents" lol. I've decided to make an around the wall layout instead of a round layout. Reason being is bcuz I want to have quite a bit of switching. Thanks again for sharing your series of layout videos with us along with your time and effort!

    Now if you want to be adventurous. If you just want the flashers to just well, flash. a basic Arduino can achieve that with a fairly simple flashing script on receiving power. And then from there its fairly simple to add detection and make the flasher script conditional to the state of added sensors if you want something more complicated.

    Great job. At least your mistake was extremely minor as you bought nothing unnecessary.
    Wasn't sure if I would be able to watch your video today because of the storm we had last night. Eastern South Dakota got hit with a couple of tornados and wind speeds of 80-100 MPH winds. Fortunately, we were only out of power for 5 hours or so, and we suffered no major damage. Just a few downed trees. Around us is a lot of damage. The town of Castlewood, which is a half hour north of us, had one of the tornadoes and half the town is gone. The school was destroyed.
    Because the county was out of power, we had several deputy sheriffs on our farm to get gas because they were low. We have a gravity tank and so since one of the deputy sheriffs is our neighbor, he sent them to our place. (Apparently, they a big day yesterday and didn't fill up before going home). Woops : )

    Hello I just started watching your videos and the timing is perfect. I am in the process of building my first layout, because things happened that I ended up having to start over again and relocating because of a broken water line . I have enjoyed watching you and how well you go over what you are doing at the same time . I am taken notes on what I need to do. Also how you are videoing and even the background music and young fellow you also have a perfect voice to follow along with. Now I’m not a expert but I have done many training videos . I will be catching up from your start and if you don’t mind asking some questions along the way.

    Do you plan on having any coal trains run the layout? I personally think it would be really awesome if you could get some coal trains going and maybe a small coal plant somewhere, just an idea though. Nothing beats a SD70ACe powered coal train with a dpu, am I right?! 😂. Looking forward to next episode, keep up the great work! i've been following since you had the classic rectangular form layout (8x4 i guess it was) and now that you advanced quite a lot in this new "modular" layout, im willing to ask, do you feel you made the right choice? im asking mainly because i've been thinking for a while now on doing the same change you did, I feel the rectangular layout takes a lot of space and its somehow difficult to acomodate in on the room (garage in my case). Greetings from Argentina! Sorry my english might not be 100% correct haha.

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 роки тому

      Wow I thank you for being around for so long! And to answer your question I do like the modular setup more overall since you can really maximize track laying and have things be a little more realistic then the regular oval. The modular is more expensive since it’s a lot more materials and such but i think it’ll be worth it once I get a full loop goin. That’s amazing! Hello from the US! Your English is very good too 🤙🏼
