    Looking good. I’d skip on an engine shed altogether. Throw an industry in the corner and use the old station location by the yard for engine service. A small fuel tank and an old intermodal container for sand, tools, etc. and some maintenance of way trucks and junk would make a great scene there.

    the spot with the removed building could be storage track for an industry that is no longer in operation or no longer serviced by the railroad (give a little history/age to the layout). when cars are not being stored there, then it be used by the railroad to store the locomotive when not being used.
    Thanks for the layout update.
    it's been fun watching you get this point, but a nice overall view was appreciated

    I would turn that spot with the removed building into a team track. That way you can have lots of different cars. Also, the area is too small for most industries that would realistically be rail served on layout.

    In that vacant area it could look pretty neat if you add on a siding and turn it into a railroad museum allowing for much older rolling stock and you could reuse the yard office as an entrance, you could also add a small stretch of n scale track and call your n scale locomotive a narrow gauge display giving you the bonus of having a multi scale layout

    In my opinion, I liked seeing the station where it was located. Although it had no use for passenger service, I liked the idea of it being seen as your railroad's office headquarters. You could have also purchased an unused heavyweight coach and modeled it as a business car for your railroad too. Just an idea I had in mind when you had the structure on your layout.

    Great update mate. Loving the back drop for the layout especially with the little shelf on top of it that's a great idea. As for the area which use to have the big building maybe a fueling point for your switcher locomotive would be a nice idea you certainly have the room for it. Look forward to the next one. - Nicholas.

    not that you want to move that precast warehouse again but it would be a good addition to the sugar mill. all you have there are silos- the mill would be needed to fill them up. the one sugar mill i have been in was pretty neat- they basically had a split down the middle of the warehouse large enough for boxcars to pull through. the floor had deadplates that got put into the sides of the boxcars and then pallets were forklifted into the boxcars. this was consumer sugar so maybe the operation you have in mind is different. thanks for sharing these piece by piece updates. you have got me wondering if i want to build my own layout one day.

    Looking better. On my future layout Ill have an area where truck trailer end dumps will come to and dump their loads and near by an front iend loader will scoop up the beets and load them onto a conveyor system to fill outbound hoppers. BITT also loads salt here into open ond closed type of hoppers.
    Then their will be a dockbfor unloading sheets of steel, lumber and loading scrap. and at the bend a ramp made from a retired flat car.for loading and unloading cars from the ends. The other house track will have areas to off load liquid fertilizer, brine, high, wide and heavy loads.. this track will also have a dock and end ramps.
    Now where the warehouses are will be a a 50 ton crane thst will run the width of the warehouse and one tracks width of a frieght car. Other places will be at the doxks where we use anything from a hard tired back hose equipped with a generator when using a magnet, then a large 2 axle crane and a larger 6 axle crane for loading and off loading material.
    Center beams will be off loaded near me warehouses on a hard driving surface. Rest of the roads are made from Limestone fines. I'll explain more about my future layout hopefully soon. Thanks for sharing with us.

    I'm really enjoying watching your layout develop ! For the open space I'd go with the team track or the Maintenance of way area! Both are universal Industries that don't need a lot Infrastructure. A small office, a simple platform, and some equipment for transloading bulk items. Maintenance would also need some storage sheds and parking for some hi rail trucks. By the way, I don't think that little 040 steam engine is N scale. It looks more like a HOn30 or OO9 Industrial engine ! Both run on N scale track but represent narrow gauge trains in their scale!

    Great video TR of how the layout is coming along. I think w the empty lot where you removed the building I'd put an engine house or a set of those Walthers Maintenance buildings. I believe there's 6 in the set. I've been drawing layout designs for an along the wall concept instead of a table. Definitely coming up with some good ideas to accomplish more switching! Just got 6 new 30k gallon Scale Train tankers in the mail yesterday w the conspicuity stripes and blue bearing caps. And in another shipment I got 6 of the 2 Bay hoppers that also have the conspicuity stripes and blue bearing caps. More industry, yes. Locomotive parking, no! My problem with parking is that it isn't any fun. An industry gives you operation potential so you can play with your trains not just look at them. You can use shelves off the layout to store a locomotive and see it. You can't deliver a car to the shelf.

    Building my layout as we speak and following many of your videos for the build. Just great. My head is spinning with turn out wiring. Using similar switches, any advice? Just positive and negative on either side? Using an NCE Powercab as well.

    • @Andy-vv4lf

      Not switch control, but track power to clarify…

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 роки тому +1

      That’s awesome! I know it can be crazy to think of sometimes. Well with turnouts if your using a DCC safe one you should be good with the positive and negative on each side. Just make sure to keep the wires on the same side always. For me though I haven’t wired any turnouts at all since my Atlas ones are DCC safe. I only wired the flex track every few feet and the power flows no problem through the turnouts. So there was no need for me to wire any of the turnouts on the layout. Hope this helps! Goodluck on your layout!

    • @Andy-vv4lf
      @Andy-vv4lf 2 роки тому +1

      Huge help. So many videos with so many different things. I assume the turnouts I’m using if they have the plastic frog that is disconnected or insulated from either side is the right one. This is really fun and your videos are amazing and inspired me to start and I am making good progress.
