    We recently installed an operating model railroad crossing with lights and moving gates on the peninsula, and I thought I would share the process with y'all. This is a relatively simple project that can be completed in a day and adds a lot of realism to a scene. Thanks for watching!

    What happens if a train approaches but then takes that siding? Will the gates eventually retreat back up?

    • @hohobbyist1098
      @hohobbyist1098 4 роки тому

      I'm curious too.

    • @nsmodeler24
      @nsmodeler24  4 роки тому +5

      The approach sensors will trigger the crossing as long as they are activated. However, once a train clears the main and enters the spur (or a siding) the approach sensors will inactivate and the crossing will go up. Unfortunately, for that to work completely prototypically (that I'm aware of) would be to run the crossing control logic through JMRI and have track occupancy detection / switch position included into the logic.

    Do they sell these for o scale too? I’m actually considering moving to HO because it seems to be a lot more realistic and you can fit more stuff into a smaller space. Just wondering if they sell these though.

    • @Westernbud94
      @Westernbud94 4 роки тому

      Stafford Northern Railroad Dude if you’re looking for realistic excellent crossing gates in O scale, I highly recommend to look at the crossing gates by Z Stuff For Trains. They come with the sensors, bell, control over how fast the gate moves, it has everything built in with timing, they gates rise 6 seconds after the train passes and if the signals are triggered by a train and the train doesn’t reach the intersection by 12 seconds the gates will rise automatically. Everything is built in, NO table mount and drilling required. Take a look for yourself on www.zstuffexpress.com/product-page/dz-1010-crossing-gate-set-o-or-s-gauge

    I think, if you were to put an expansion spring on the servo, so when the gate goes down the servo has a little bit of something to help put some force on the servo and make it lower without jittering. Just an idea lol

    Great video. Awesome tutorial. Minor question : The crossing arm in the foreground didn't raise up to full vertical like the one on the other side. Was there a bit of flashing from manufacturing to trim off or is more in depth fiddling needed. Motion is fantastic and everything looks great !

    I would consider buying from Signalogic Systems their grade crossing system, but their website shows no news updates since 2012 and the link to download the CR-2 manual is not working.
    I wanted to read the manual as I plan to build a switching layout which requires depending on length of locomotive and wagons the ability to stop half way across the grade crossing and reverse into a industry etc, and was curious as to whether the system was smart enough to recognize these movements.

    • @nsmodeler24
      @nsmodeler24  4 роки тому +2
