I love this car. It's fast, it's manual, it has auto rev matching, it's turbo, it pops and bangs, it has 5 years of warranty, it's cheap.

I'm the type of buyer that is in the market for a 570s or 720s. This i30n is a cute hatch that would knock the socks off my daily commuter car. I like it alot, as the next alternative is a boring hybrid or family compact. Those who make such comments do not have the financial prowess to validate their comments. Such blind pretentious fools.

I have recently tested i30N and VW Golf GTI and I would definitely choose i30N. GTI felt like normal Golf with red details in interior and a bit stronger engine while i30N feels more like sports car. The handling, shiftlights, steering, clutch, seats, sound....Hyundai wins in all of this. Golf still wins in everyday practicality, street rep and build quality.

It's understandable as car culture is quite literally nonexistent in Korea. All they want is big black sedans with a lot of vulgar chrome to decorate the facade of their houses. Cars are just accessories to make you look important, not something you actually drive and have fun in over there in your country.

So a Golf GTI performance with similar spec is around £4-5k more expensive, has less power and a shorter warranty. What's even more amusing is that pretty much every review says if you want a fast Golf just buy the R, which a lot of people seem to be doing. It might have it's shortfalls in certain areas but personally I think this looks like a great car and good value for money when you consider how versatile and adjustable it is.

JB did you know that a GTI is a ton faster than this POS Hyundai? Hyundai Lexus and Infiniti are all equally worthless. All 3 companies don't compare with german legends although they're all trying to 😂😂😂😂😂 Infiniti in 2010 said the Q50 Eau Rouge made a better Nurburgring lap than the BMW M3 so BMW built a whole new M3 and supercharged it and beat the Eau Rouge in only 1 week. Thanks to companies like this, BMW and benz gets even stronger and better

Noble Vigilance I am not a fanboy of anything. I just happen to use critical thinking and logic when it comes to analyzing cars. Your perception of German cars is skewed. They are not what they used to be and cannot compete on price and features with the Koreans and Japanese. That's why they have resorted to pumping out shitboxes like the CLA and A class, which are stripped out, poverty pack piles of junk. All you are paying for is the badge. Not to mention their reliability is utter shit.

Also, the front of the GTI is well designed but the back... What happened there? It's so plain. And the side profile with those ugly wheels I've never been a fan of. It looks too childish. Panoramic sunroof on the GTI? Even the interior I think is not as nice as the NLine. The only thing it has going is a flat bottom steering wheel and a really good design of the front bumper and headlights. The rest of the car is too square and flat. The NLine is not quite as quick as a GTI but I'm sure with a tune and some other mods you can get a few more horsies. All around I think the NLine is better than a GTI.

    • @limpet7r63

I agree. Badge snobbery is the only reason to choose a GTI over one of these. The Hyundai is faster, handles better, sounds better, is more fun to drive, is no less well engineered (Biermann's influence runs deep), better equipped, just as easy to live with daily, will be more reliable (compare Hyundai and VW positions in any reliability survey), has a longer warranty (which also covers track use), is cheaper, and holds its value just as well. All I will say after living with the i30N for a bit is the Golf will probably be better on fuel.

Some people in the comments section CLEARLY is living in the past when Hyundai was really bad. Its 2017 moving into 2018 and they have improved A LOT. Some people just don't get it cause they haven't actually test drove some of the newer ones. Sure it's not my cup of tea apart from this new i30 N version. My own i20 's engine give in at only 35000 miles with full dealer service history . Within 2 years it had rust on the tailgate and doors alloys peeled gearbox leaked oil etc etc , the list is endless it was done in by 4 year's I had to get rid as Hyundai's 5 year warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on they try to get out of every repair and the attitude is , well you bought it . My friend's diesel ix35s engine managed 50000 miles before it threw a piston on the motorway . I could go on forever . I now own a Toyota auris and have had no issues whatsoever using it to earn my living in all day 6 days a week . Every person I know who had owned a Hyundai has been plagued with problem's . But now they have gone mainstream seems they have tried to run before they can walk. I only say this cos I would hate anyone to spend 4 years the way I did when the relly on there car so much . My only concern with this car is sadly it's residuals, will it drop its value faster than it's more established, mainstream alternatives.
But on the flip side the warranty seems really good on them being 5 year unlimited mileage, which is highly unusual compared to its competition.
I haven't heard many negatives for this except for it being abit underpowered compared to its rivals.
I might have a look at these next year when my M235i is 4 years old as I am struggling to work out what to go to next.

Other Hyundai owner here, Andrei's experience is unfortunate but I don't have the same experience at all. I complained about a minor rattle that you could hear intermittently going over rough surfaces. They couldn't hear anything but took my word for it and tore the interior down looking for it. They found a cable in the headliner that was not clipped in. Way better than my experiences on my earlier cars (German), where the manufacturer garage assume you are lying when you bring up a fault, or say that it's "supposed to do that".

    • @AdamWeeks

I've test drove this car. It is a good looking car in the right colour. There is good head room and space for the driver and passenger but not good leg room in the back. Prepare to feel every bump and crack in the road suspension poor. In the wet there is a lot of wheel spin and the tyres struggle to keep up with the revs stalling at 5 while the tyres try to keep up. The car sounds great starting it up, going up and down gears all sounds great and the power is impressive but better wait till it's dry.

Considering what you get standard (ok performance pack) plus 5 year warranty l personally think it’s worth a punt. Get one a couple of years old (lost a bit £££) and still 3 year warranty left 🤔🤔. Sounds like a great car (literally!) I prefer the looks to the Golf personally, as it's fresh, rather than same old. More reliable too, no doubt. The suspension was developed by an ex BMW M guy, so he should know a thing or two about making a car handle well. The price is appealing. Seems it has all you need more or less straight out of the box, so you are not going to be clobbered with the cost of options either. All it lacks is 'the' badge, if that bothers you and maybe a few soft touch plastics, but it seems as a car to drive it's right up there. If the dealers are half decent, this has potential to be a really interesting car. Well done Hyundai!
