- APRIL 2, 2018: When researching camping spots in South Mountain State Park I was hoping to find a good overall review on the Jacob Branch campsites to make a good decision on which site to reserve (and couldn't find it). So I put this together for you. I'm sorry it's 7 minutes but worth the watch if you are looking to camp on one of the more remote sites in the park. NOTICE: If you leave the main lot and take the H.Q. Trail to Jacob Branch, you are in for a very tough climb up the mountain almost the entire 4+ mile hike. Of the 3 sites at Jacob Branch, I highly recommend campsite #3 (and you'll see why). Official park link with maps: www.ncparks.gov/south-mountai...
Very helpful thank you!
Really nice video thanks
Camped there a few times with my horse on a two day ride. Back then they didn't have a outhouse, bear box or camp sites, just the locks for the horses and field. That was back in the 90's.
Excellent review and information. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for taking the time to do a video on this, was looking at going out this spring!
Very good review. Thanks for sharing this.
Would this be considered one of their frontcountry sites?
Its part of the backcountry sites.
How big is the stream there?
Marshal Allen the stream is about 8 -10 feet across, maybe a bit more, with very good flow. Excellent for filtering water. I camped here last month, just prior to memorial day weekend. I got site #1, and it was on a grade just like the review showed. I used a hammock, so it wasn't too bad for me. But it's too steep for a tent, for certain. Good luck.
thanks!
To hell with a tent I use a hammock system
Good job
