My Custom Goal Zero Yeti 400 Box Build with 2 Additional Batteries
In this video I give a quick tour of my custom, portable, self-contained, secure box that contains a Goal Zero Yeti 400, 2 additional batteries, 2 battery tenders, security cable and a bunch of accessories. This could serve as a camp site back-up generator with solar and shore power options as well as an in-home backup power supply to run things for several days such as phone chargers, lights, and an electric kettle should the power go down. My Favorite Off Grid and Camping Light Options
Переглядів 324 роки тому
In this video, I discuss a few of my favorite lighting options that I take out on the trail with me in addition to discussing my strategy to keep some of these lights powered up without traditional akaline batteries. Bottom line: Rethink your lighting by thinking about how you would keep them charged up in a long-term off grid situation where you might not be able to get your hands on normal al...
South Mountain State Park (NC) Shinny Creek Campsites

April 2, 2018: First off, I apologize for the poor audio quality the first 40 seconds (it was quite windy in the clearing). This is a very quick overview of the 4 campsites at the Shinny Creek campsite in South Mountain State Park in Connelly Springs, NC. Though they generally lack privacy, these sites are some of the closest to the main parking lot with a moderate hike in (probably about 40 mi...
South Mountain State Park (NC) Jacob Branch Campsites
Переглядів 6 тис.6 років тому
APRIL 2, 2018: When researching camping spots in South Mountain State Park I was hoping to find a good overall review on the Jacob Branch campsites to make a good decision on which site to reserve (and couldn't find it). So I put this together for you. I'm sorry it's 7 minutes but worth the watch if you are looking to camp on one of the more remote sites in the park. NOTICE: If you leave the ma...

    Just replace with PECRON E1500 PRO PORTABLE POWER STATION looks easier and smaller and better inverter.

    Camped there a few times with my horse on a two day ride. Back then they didn't have a outhouse, bear box or camp sites, just the locks for the horses and field. That was back in the 90's.

    now you can level-up by switching to LiFePO: www.mightymaxbattery.com/shop/lifepo4/12v-35ah-u1-lithium-replacement-battery-for-goal-zero-yeti-400-solar-generator/ can still add addt'l batts in series, but now you have cut your weight in half, increased the charge cycle lifespan by 8x's, can charge faster, AND, you can drain to 0% (unlike 50% for the lead acid batts).

      Have you tried this set- up? Any updates? I asked this question to the goal zero rep, if I can upgrade my yeti 400 using lithium and he said NO.

    Very nice. Did you contemplate lining the interior of the box with copper mesh? I understand it may be costly, but it would protect your system. I think this is a BA setup. Again, very nice. 👍🏻 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    I like this set up. Do you have a parts list or link? I would like to copy the smaller BATTERY BOXES with the meter for each. Thanks in advance.

      I have this setup and would also like to know where I can find those 2 battery cases with the meter. I have not had luck finding cases similar enough to the ones you have. They're exactly what I'm looking for but I cannot find them. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi. Thanks for this video! Was there adequate tree coverage there so the tent isn't in the sun all day? And was the creek down below good for young kids (easy access, 'beach' area however small, wadeable?)

    Thanks for your video very helpful. I’m trying to use a small but heavy weight dolly hand truck to stack my yeti 400 on top of two battery boxes. Both are daisychain together to triple the total power of the yeti 400. The question I have is how did you wire in your voltmeter

  • @Teadrinker710
    @Teadrinker710 4 роки тому

    How do you charge the chained batteries when you’re camping? Let’s say you start off with just one battery that is chained to the yeti, they are both full and you start off by using 50 watts but you’re pulling in 20 watts, how is that balanced, is the 50 coming from the back up, the yeti or both(25 x 2)? Do they charge together together simultaneously (10x2) or does it just charge one at a time? I understand the concept i just don’t understand how you charge the battery that is daisy chained. Thank you for any help

    • @WaffleRunner1
      @WaffleRunner1 4 роки тому

      Team LeBong, when you chain 2 batteries together they essentially become 1 bigger battery - meaning they both charge and discharge simultaneously.

    • @tadbright2302
      @tadbright2302 3 роки тому

      The Goal Zero Unit allows for the charging. You could charge it via a cable you order from goal zero that connects any after market solar panel. Or you could use AC power to charge the batteries. The idea is to rely on solar. Goal Zero really dummy proofs the whole Solar Generator market, otherwise you need about 4 pieces of equipment to get up and running. The daisy chaining mentioned in this video is kind of a “hack” to double or triple the runtime of the lead acid yeti 400 at 1/5 the cost of another yeti 400. It basically makes it run for 2 or 3 times longer between charges. Really nice to be able to run lights, charge phones, portable lithium batteries, laptops, camera batteries. Etc etc...

    We stayed at Jacob Branch last year. I think Shinny Creek is a much better option. Less secluded, but better water source, a trash bin, and a lot less uphill with all your gear. I'll be staying there next time I return to South Mountain.

    How big is the stream there?

    • @NCTraveller
      @NCTraveller 6 років тому

      Marshal Allen the stream is about 8 -10 feet across, maybe a bit more, with very good flow. Excellent for filtering water. I camped here last month, just prior to memorial day weekend. I got site #1, and it was on a grade just like the review showed. I used a hammock, so it wasn't too bad for me. But it's too steep for a tent, for certain. Good luck.
