  • Drifting cured eggs is highly effective for catching steelhead and it only seems fitting that as fly fishers we have the same option. Enter the nastiest, simplest egg pattern to hit your tying vise!
    Materials List:
    Trailer Hook: Ahrex XO774 sz8
    Front Shank: Spawn 60* Micro Jig Shank
    Thread: Uni 6/0 Red
    Weighted Wire: Non Lead .020
    Bead: Spawn Football Bead 7.5mm Silver
    Eggs: Glo Bug Yarn Peachy King and Alaskan Roe
    Head Cement: Loon Hard Head

    Oh that looks so good. I’m gonna down size the barrel bead for Erie trib steelhead and give it a shot. I’ll let you know

      I tied a handfull of these as a large egg pattern for dredging deep deep holes on the big erie tribs and have yet to pull one in on em.... too much hook or too much weight maybe im not sure. I think its also easy to overdo the polar chenille... Otherwise you tie one of these up & when its wet it looks just like a fat chunk of skein idk how they dont get smoked.

      ​@@tomaszsmolka3737 probably works better in dirty water. In clear water, a small McFlyfoam egg is a better option

      Have a smaller pattern similar to this that I tied for steelhead and browns in Ontario tribs, worked in chocolate milk and dirty water but also when the salmon egg drops.

    15mm or 20mm shank?

      I tie them on both. Just depends on how many eggs you want in front, but 20mm is definitely easier to work with!

      @@SpawnFlyFish Suggest using pencil eraser for the hook point. Office supply places have them for mechanical pencils.
