Chimo Darren. Eggcellent spawn primer, I like that "free range" hybrid - was it an "Estazy over Easy"? ;o) Yeah those pom poms are a bear to put on. I believe there's a small hole in them, if you can find it, to start the hook. I think I told you I've threaded some mini pom poms, about 4 or 5 mm size, on thin mono with a sewing needle and lashed it to a hook for trout egg clusters. That was worse. Mark's Carpet fly is popular in western NY, it's a yarn egg but made of multiple colors that match the stages of fresh to decayed eggs. Yep it's that time of year, busy weekend too with my uncle Christoforo Colombo being celebrated ;o) They just had the DSR featured on the local news. Going there is on my bucket list... Cheers
Chimo Joe Free Range might be a good name for that one. :) I haven't found a hole in the pompoms I have, but they have a core that you can dig into to secure the material. We have the Turkey holiday this weekend, so I'll be cooking soon. I'll check out that carpet fly pattern as well, cheers

Good question, I've had these in my inventory for a long time. The ones I have are from Superfly (Canada). I did a search on Ebay and there is a seller who has some for sale. I believe that is the last of Superfly's stock as they don't make fly tying materials any longer. ebay.to/2T0TMCW Hope that helps. Cheers

nice egg ideas, I've never tied eggs, i was wondering if you took a single smaller bead like you used in your last egg and secured it in the middle then wrapped the opalescent pearl chenille you used on the eggstacy if it would look like a yolk in the middle in the water.......i tie a lot of nymphs so i really don't have the materials for easily figuring it out....but you could master it quickly.....i'd love to see that come to fruition Spike Partlow

darren what hook are you using for these patterns. It appears to be a pretty stout hook.
I like using the Gamakatsu C14s and Mustad signature C67s hooks. Both nice and stout heavy wire hooks. Cheers 🍻
What size and type of hooks are you using?
Mostly Gamakatsu C14s size 6 and 8. I also use the Mustad Signature C67s. I like a heavy wire, straight eye hook for eggs. Cheers

@@danconnor7815 Mostly they are. There are restrictions of weighted flies on the C&R sections during parts of the year. If you are using a bead, check the dates where it is allowed and the section of river you are fishing. www.fishsalmonriver.com/Regulations
Thank you for the reply on an older video! I’m tying up some eggs and just wanted to make sure the hook was legal (.5”) before I ordered them. I’ve never actually seen them in person before. Really appreciate your reply and channel. I been using it as a guide lately. Subscribed for sure
