Thanks to this video I've just completed reupholstering 6 dining room chairs. The seat foam was so old that it had become powdery so I renewed that too by following what was already there: a 12" square of foam with a larger piece on top covering the whole seat, giving a very good dome! I then followed this video's lead by adding in the layer of Dacron before covering with the vinyl leather effect fabric. The resulting seats are very comfortable. Not having a fancy air staple gun I used a manual office staple gun! A bit more work but does the job! Any staples that don't go fully in can be finished off with a few taps from a small hammer. One thing I noted is that this video's technique of running your hand up over the seat to help stretch the material is absolutely vital to getting the corners right. If you don't have enough tension in the sides, you'll not be able to pull the corners tight. Anyway, thanks for a superb video!

Very interesting video just what I need to do on my 6 dining chairs in fabric I'm a beginner so very handy for me to follow have saved your video to come back too it, my fabric on my chairs to make sure I have enough fabric I've measured 22 inch by 22 inch 56CM all round there not big dinning chair think I need new foam and the padding you used and spray on glue I have taken fabric off one chair the foam is yellow the dining set is from 1994 I feel they need a new lease of life the fabric so on the look out think I have found something in Dunelm I'll be watching your other videos thanks for sharing with us I may use the seat fabric as a template from the fabric I took off, make it square used as a guide. Thanks again for the video....
Thanks for your great video. I've watched it 3 times now and I feel like I'm ready to do our 6 chairs. Not vinyl. A nice cloth with a pattern that I will have to be very careful to get straight lines and no bulges. I started one but had to take it all back off to try again. That's why I've just watched the video another time. I see where I went wrong. Back to work.
@@faceliftinteriors Thanks for asking. I've done 6 dining chairs that had an easy pattern and no problems. But then I got into doing an arm side chair that has a cushioned seat in that it has webbing running in both directions. I decided to replace that webbing and bought a tool to tension it with. That went well but when it came to the actual upholstery on the seat, my wife chose a striped pattern with narrow stripes and I had a dickens of a time to get them straight. I think I redid that seat at least 4 times until I got it to what I thought looked right. Thanks again for your tutorial video. I learned a lot from it.
@@rayscrafield2106 that’s great news that you managed to get it done in the end. Stripes are not the easiest! Glad you got your 6 dining seats done without problems 👍🏻

Hi there, what an excellent tutorial and the icing on the cake was the use of the hairdryer for vinyl. Quick question, what is the make and model of the Compressor and the Stapler/Nail gun, please? Thanks. 😀
Hi there, many thanks indeed. The compressor is a Bambi Pt40 and the staple gun is a Tacwise long nose Gun. I prefer BEA guns nowadays but they are a fair bit more expensive. 👍🙏✂️🧵📐⛏️📎

Hi from the USA I am reupholstering chair pads. They have hogs hair/horse hair for padding. I am a beginner…. I have watched your video many times. The chair was originally covered in a green vinyl. Someone went over it with a tan vinyl. I removed all the staples but am now not sure what to do. Should I keep the original stuffing and vinyl and just cover it in new vinyl ?
Hi there! I wouldn’t recommend covering over the top of old vinyl but it can be done. It just has to be pulled really tight, which is hard to do as the new vinyl will slip on the old vinyl. Horse hair can be replaced with foam - however the traditional upholsterers wouldn’t be happy but that is also an option if you don’t want to replace the hair. Hope this helps 😊👍🏻

Hi there! Most upholstery guns usually need between 70-100psi otherwise the staples struggle to go into the wood. If you find it’s too much - you can always pull the gun back a bit.

Thanks for the video and the info. Superb. What dimensions are your bench please? I see fabric is 140cm wide normally so I guess bench needs to be significantly wider? Also what kind of depth is required to allow you to roll fabric out and have plenty space to work? Many thanks. Stuart, Glasgow.

Brilliant video. That staple gun is ace! You are exceptionally good at your job, mate. Would a hand held stapler from toolstation be any good for doing this level of upholstery?
Thanks Buddy, much appreciated. Short answer is no, I get a lot of comments about people trying to use handhelds and not having enough power. You can pick up a compressor for about £100 nowadays, don't waste your money on an electric or handheld! Many thanks for watching! 👍😁⛏️🧵📐✂️

Hi Louise! I did post this video of a footstool from scratch - here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/Ash7bTP-_pA/v-deo.html it has a diamond tufted top but you can keep it plain if you prefer. Hope this helps!
Great video, have just followed your instruction and re-covered my first chair 👌 I'm thinking the foam probably needs replacing though, it's a very similar shape to the one in your video but 20 yrs old. Any advice on where to source replacement foam? It looks like it's moulded (domed)?
Hi Heather! Well done for doing your first recover! You can get upholstery foam from any upholstery suppliers (you should be able to find some online) or alternatively you could have a look on eBay etc. For dining seat pads I would suggest 2 inch white foam. Once you pull the fabric down tight, it will dome the foam anyway so no need to mould it. Hope this helps 😊👍🏻

Very interesting video just what I need to do on my 6 dining chairs in fabric I'm a beginner so very handy for me to follow have saved your video to come back too it, my fabric on my chairs to make sure I have enough fabric I've measured 22 inch by 22 inch 56CM all round there not big dinning chair think I need new foam and the padding you used and spray on glue I have taken fabric off one chair the foam is yellow the dining set is from 1994 I feel they need a new lease of life the fabric so on the look out think I have found something in Dunelm I'll be watching your other videos thanks for sharing with us
I may use the seat fabric as a template from the fabric I took off, make it square used as a guide.

Hi Ray! Sorry for the delayed response - how have you been getting on with your chairs?

Hi from the USA
I am reupholstering chair pads.

What's the best psi for stapling vinyl? I read somewhere that too high (above 70psi?) will ruin the material.
Hi there! Most upholstery guns usually need between 70-100psi otherwise the staples struggle to go into the wood. If you find it’s too much - you can always pull the gun back a bit.

@@faceliftinteriors Thanks!

Now the question is where do l get a good vinyl material? I live in the USA
Hi Reyna! I’m not really sure about buying fabrics over there but I’m sure you could get it from fabric stores or online. Just make sure it’s upholstery grade 😊👍🏻
Great vid, thanks, learnt a lot. That staple gun is awesome. Wondering if the hairdryer technique would work for leather too?
Hi Christopher! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. It does work on leather too - it doesn’t stretch quite as much as the vinyl but it definitely makes it more malleable.
