- I’m not shy to admit it: I think the Tudor Black Bay 58 may well be the most perfect watch you can buy today. It has everything, style, heritage, value, reliability, and that makes finding fault with it very tricky. Although when a watch is this good, those faults, however small, can start to make themselves rather well known. Let’s take a look.

I hated the snow flake hands but over time I have grown to love it! It is one of the things that make the Tudor a Tudor.
Very much like the helium escape valve on the Omega Seamaster. Either it adds to the character or you hate it lol. Doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of in between.
When you know why they are snowflake hands (by the request of the French Navy, so they can be better seen deep under water by marine welders), you get it. It’s form following function. It’s beyond opinion on aesthetics. A tool, not a design.

Exactly the same. Used to hate it and it just grew on me. Now I love it... There's not a lot of design these days that isn't borrowed and used by other watches but those hands are decidedly Tudor.

I actually love the shield. As a story, it is the shield that protects the Crown (Rolex), and I quite like that. The Rose is definitely cool too. Next watch to dissect would be an Omega Seamaster Professional.

I love the original BB58, but every time I see a high quality video of the blue version I am reminded of what an inescapably great looking watch it is. Perfect shade of blue, supremely legible. I could afford one of these two, but haven’t reached the point where I can justify the purchase to myself. Thankfully Tudor spared me further confusion/desire by only releasing the 925 Silver version on a strap rather than a bracelet.
BTW, I agree on the dial text. Drop “Officially” and just have “Chronometer Certified.”
I love this watch every part of it, this watch is so good that people actually put the watch in front of them to look for faults 😂😂😂, what a watch.
The coin edge is what I like better about the Tudor vs the Rolex subs. Diver homages also use the harsher scalloped bezel edge which over time to me has diluted the sub mariner look for me. The Tudor doesn’t look cheap to me but actually more sophisticated.
It's also far easier to grip. People try to grip it from the top like the sub but you grip it from the side and it is far easier to use.

1. Micro-adjustment clasp requires a tool.
2. Fake rivets on the sides of the bracelet
3. The snowflake on the hour hand could be smaller
4. No engraving at all on the back or the clasp :( Wasted canvas
5. I realize Rolex wants to differentiate Black Bay from Submariner, but I really think the bezel could use more pronounced teeth

is it me or is the bb58 getting a lot of hate lately? people thought it was the hottest ticket, but now people are being turned off by it by the "vintage inspiration" and now this!? i love my bb58 still!
I think many are coming to the realization that it’s really a dull watch and if it weren’t for the Rolex association and the group think of every UA-camr raving about it, the watch really falls flat against other watches in similar price range.

One of the aesthetic items that pushed me to buy this watch was the coin edge. I looked at it and it thought what an understated design choice. The execution was bang on for me too. The shape of the crystal edge with that perfectly shaped radius just makes me smile when I look at it. And the rivets...well, I thought I would hate them but oddly, I'm beginning to think that I might miss them if they disappeared in an alternate universe. A couple of years ago when this watch was all the hype, I held one and it was lost on me. I'll take a SM300 and marvel at the technical achievement of that piece, but somehow this watch, the BB, just nails it. My new fav.
Damn you’ve tried hard to find flaws with the BB58. My only gripe when I first got it was the faux rivets but you just don’t notice them in day to day life. Either way another great video, keep up the good work!
Agree. The only thing I’m on the fence is the faux rivets. But there’s so many pros to the watch that it becomes easier to ignore/accept the rivets.

I have the BB58 Black and you are right. The hands are wonderful. Anyone who doesn't like them probably doesn't own one and just likes to claim that's the reason...LOL. At least we get the rose on the crown!. great vid as always.

I’m so glad I’m a tudor fan since the late eighties. I own a few submariners, blue and black, some chronos and i can choose between the tudor shield and the rose. So needless to say i was pretty suprised when in 2011 Tudor came with the new Chrono Heritage in grey and black dail to let everybody know they’re back. The new 58 will be a new watch in my collection, maybe black or blue. Thank you for talking about the little love of my life.
I bought the bb58 original around a year ago and absolutely love it. My only gripe is the lack of adjustment in the bracelet. Otherwise I can't fault it.
Man the BB58 blue is so beautiful.
It really is, but I prefer the black one myself. Black dial and bezel with gold idecies and numbers on the bezel, and that little pop of red at the 12 pip of the bezel. I'm struggling to decide between the white dial Seamaster Pro 300m and the BB58 black. Gonna be a gift to myself for my 50th, so I have a couple years to sort it out at least.

The only thing I wish this watch had was a ceramic bezel and a version in black (without the gold tint). I would be ecstatic if Tudor released a 58 like that. I think that might be releasing one in the near future since they released a fully blacked out ceramic black bay, so maybe I should hold out for a bit longer. The value on this watch is just incredible though and happy they finally shrunk the diameter, height, and band size.
On the snowflake, it's fine on the 58. It's on the chrono that I don't like it. It's a major flaw that it obscures the subdials depending on the time. Paying that for a chrono and not having the ability to use it I struggle with as I love the chrono.
But the original Tudor watches had snowflake hands with the the square hour markers like how the pelagos dial is, they were never used with the round hour markers, the black bay is like a mish mash of there watches throughout the years.
@@psmith2632 agree the originals had the snowflake and I get your point on the Pelegos. What I was trying to say is that the snowflake hand does not work on the chrono layout wise. I think they could have done something different so you can use the chrono. They have other hour hand styles in their history they could have used to my mind.
Agreed, but I would’ve solved the problem by skeletonising the snowflake hand. A simple and effective solution that would look good, as per the Seamaster.

I have a huge problem with Tudor…. The problem is, I have two of them and I want 4 more from the current catalogue. I have 1 Rolex and now realise that I’m “fortunate” to have been “allowed” to buy it. The chances of me getting another Rolex from an AD are slim to none. Apart from the new Zenith Sport Chronograph (which is over £8000!!) I haven’t seen anything from any other company (other than Tudor) that I’d like. I think it’s time the other guys upped their game!!
Yea Rolex has taken the artificial scarcity game too far IMHO.

Try 40 mm IWC Petit Prince in blue, on bracelet. I own several Tudors, which are fabulous.....but the 40mm Pilot from IWC is turning my watch crank big time, excuse the pun.

You can get a rolex from an AD, you just can't get it TODAY. You need to wait. And possibly for a long time. That is the price of admission.

Everyone agrees. It receives frequent scorn. 30m resistance in a watch with its heritage? An absolute slap.
I think the issue is just the amount your paying for ETA movements, or even ETA based ones. So there's nothing actually wrong, I think the value just isn't there for a lot of people. But it's still unclear how much work they do on the movements or not.
In Nov 2021 I bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue on the steel bracelet to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've cherished for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and aluminium bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear on my 7 inch wrist. Although not quite up there with the Rolex in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it when it's barely 40% of a steel Sub's retail price (if you could actually get a Sub that is !)- visit an AD and try one on. An in-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed. Ignore the fuss about the faux rivets - you cannot see them when wearing the watch and they are designed to be a vintage-style idiosyncrasy.
For just a slightly higher price, you can opt for the GMT version which offers both a date function and a true GMT feature. While I absolutely adore the black bay series, having a date complication is something I simply cannot live without.
The only annoying thing I find is that I don't have the funds to buy this fantastic watch lol

I bought the black / guilt BB58 a while back. Can't fault it, no QC issues fits very well on the wrist, looks stunning, keeps good time and perceptibly quality-wise, certainly looks no worse than my Rolex and way better value. The way the colours sit together, are simply excellent.
I wanted one of these until I saw it in person, and then I went from merely wanting it to absolutely needing it in my life. I didn't leave the store without it, and I couldn't be more pleased at my decision. Just buy one already!
Please review the Longines spirit 40mm, it's a great watch and a bargain, chronometer grade movement and puts more expensive watches to shame.
I recently purchased a new Benrus Type 1 LE (yes, the Benrus brand has been revitalized by an investment group); the Type 1 was initially only issued to US military personnel, and the original iterations are highly sought after collector pieces.
The re-edition is pretty faithful to the original from a design perspective, but I think you could have a blast picking its flaws apart.
The snowflake hand is one of my favourite things on my Black Bay. I have a 79230n on black leather and khaki NATO. I absolutely love it, the geometrical shapes are very satisfying
I’ve had my BB58 a year now. Trust me people, the rivets ARE NOT AN ISSUE!!! This watch is a piece of art and something you feel more in love with by the day
Have had one for a couple of months now and agree, it's a piece of art, the only negative for me is that I am constantly staring at it and will have an accident if I'm not careful 😁
Had it for about a year. I can’t see myself flipping it as I did with many others. Yes it has flaws but … I still love it to death.
Love my BB58. Can’t fault it, really.
I hated the rivets at first but in person they’re actually really small 🤷🏻♂️ I don’t mind them now, so make sure you see one in person because it may change your mind 😊 oh and also… there is a big difference between Land Rover and Range Rover 😂

My BB58’s bracelet rattles when i shake my wrist and it’s quite annoying… Does anyone else have this problem?
An update to an earlier post: . Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 version as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. But after watching some of your helpful videos, plus many others, I succumbed and I have just purchased a new BB 58 Black version in late Dec 21 from my AD at retail - there is no shortage of them in the UK these days.
I do, and still love the blue, but I have also grown to adore the warmer, more vintage appeal that the black version exudes, not to mention the slightly darker shade of steel Tudor has cleverly used to add further differentiation. Maybe owning identically-made watches with the exact same specs is crazy, but hey it's Christmas after all !
As soon as the BB58 line has a tool free micro adjust clasp like the one on the pelagos or even the new bronze 58, I’d buy one in a heart beat.
Seriously, a diver without and adjustable clasp is a shame.
That would be nice if they added that, but at least it still looks great on a NATO!
I love my “Navy” like I loved my MX-5, fun, simple to use everyday, good to look at and affordable. A perfect daily.
G-shocks are certainly divisive watches and tend to either be loathed by people or then we collect several dozen of them. I think a Watchfinder take on G-shock would be fun. Can we have a G-shock episode, please? :)

I never was a big fan of the snowflake if i'm being honest. It always felt like it just screamed "I AM A TUDOR WATCH" and there wasn't really a point to it. But when I got to handle the 58 for the first time I realized that i've never had a watch that was so easy to immediately read at a glance. I picked up my 58 this week from the AD and haven't really taken it off since, and my initial opinion on the snowflake's legibility was only confirmed. The lume only needs a flash of low light to start to glow a bit and the polish framing the hands and hour markers are vivid as day even at a dark and busy concert where I was able to immediately know the time down to the minute without to pause and see which hand was where.
This is almost like when they ask you to name a few of your own bad characteristics, which you turn into positives indirectly 😂
Let’s go really decisive and review the 2265.80.00 omega seamaster quartz !!

I really hope that review the H.Moser swiss Alps rinal upgrade watch. The watch itself is really really strange and a think could be very controversial. Nothing other than a research from watch finder would be able to explain the intention and reality of that watch.
The only drawback of this watch is that i think it really belongs on the bracelet. It doesn’t look nearly as good on anything else. Whereas the black version of the bb58 is more versatile imo
If you have a chance to see one in person, do it. I had it in blue with both the bracelet and a blue leather strap as an option. I went with the latter. Not a regret at all. It looks stunning. That’s not why I buy watches, but the blue 58 with blue leather strap is a head turner. It only means how beautiful it is. I get asked about it from people that don’t even know watches. Take a look. It’s great.

I'm not a watch expert but I own this exact watch as well as 2 subs and a Longines and I can tell you wearing this watch on your wrist you can tell just how good it is more so than both of my subs.This watch was made to be good not say that it is good.

I didn’t like the snowflake at start but now I really like it. You see over and over the Rolex one even if the watch is not a clone. So the snowflake is different and I like it.
The only “issue” I’m at all concerned with is the bezel knurling, and even them I’m OK with it and just would prefer it be better. Coin-edge is what it is, but something like the Tudor/Rolex Sub edging would be ideal.

The 'officially certified' on a dial annoys the hell out of me. So what, who cares...it doesn't make sense to announce this on a watch dial
The knurling looks so much better than the knurling on a sub!
The biggest flaw for me is that the clasp only has three micro adjustments. If Tudor included half links in the bracelet without rivets this watch would be perfect imo. Only having 3 micro adjustments is a shame and the reason for this is because the rivets on the full size link that attaches to the clasp prevents it from fully articulating inside the clasp past three micro adjustments. The oris divers 65 gets around this by including a couple half links without rivets on their bracelet. This allows for 5 micro adjustments on the divers 65.

I though, oh no when I first saw your vid pop up in my feed. I'm buying the 39 BB blue for my son's 34th birthday present this month. I was considering the 41 at first, but I personally found it to be a bit too much. I'm going to tell him about it before he removes the polyimide, just in case he wants to go scope it out. I think he'll overlook all the "negative aspects" you pointed out about this watch. 😉 I was unaware of the origin of the name, now I know. Great vid, thank you. 👍

I want to love that watch but I just can’t - I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with it but it’s to my eyes it’s just not something that says I must own it .

My annoyance is I’ve had to have my GMT back for service twice in the 2 years I’ve owned it, and the second time Rolex sent it back broken. They finally got it fixed and still love the watch.

Why does the bb58 look so much better under macro than any Rolex?
My 2 issues are the hour hand proportion and the lack of crown protector (for a tool watch).
It’s their tool watch lite, to be fair. Love the look of open crowns.

The hour hand is not as present in real life, as everything on the watch is delicately taken back. Magnified everything comes to a presence, which is not really there wearing the watch.

There's another thing acrylic does better than sapphire: it's infinitely stronger under pressure. If you're 200 feet down, try not to bump your sapphire against a stanchion or something.

I was in doubt of which one to choose, the bb58 925 or the seamaster 300.... At the end, I opted for the bb58, but.... The omega will be one of the next

I have a daily tag aquaracer, an omega planet ocean 46mm with rubberish and stainless strap, a tudor bb58 and a tudor royal. The omega by far the most expensivest, by far the best brand…but ive not worn it in at least a year…bb58 and the tag are suprisingly the ones for me at the mo…

At 6:55 in the video the lume shot shows blue lume. I own this watch and the lume is definitely green. Did Tudor change lume? I know mine isn’t a fake…

The crystal and shield are definitely personal preferences. I kind of like the slim profile of the Sapphire and the 'boring' shield is perfect for me. The rose always was a little frilly for my taste.
As for the essay on the dial, I think it balances out the logo pretty nicely but that may just be me. I do love the snowflake as well though.
I agree. There's something to be said for a simple, clean logo design. The shield has never bothered me. And for me, the wording is a plus point. I would rather buy this than the 1926 that just says Rotor Self-Winding, which is dumb.
