I’m late to make this season, but I am the wife, brand new to trapping, and will be using my kitchen to make this. And probably store it in Tupperware!
I'm having a absolute blast watching the young kids coming to trapping.. I think since the prices of fur is so low that people are taking more time to get there kids more involved. The whole thing is a blessing in disguise. Plenty of animals to catch , plenty of time to teach and no hurries.. 😊
I am brand new to trapping after deer hunting for 45ish years, This video came up with perfect timing. Of course its probably to late to make for this season but next year I'll be making some. I have to tell you how much I appreciate your channel and the information you provide.
This was perfect timing. I’m brand new to trapping and plan to make some wax dirt this weekend and finally get my traps out for the end of the season. This has quickly turned into one of my favorite UA-cam channels!!!
I know trapping season is starting to wind down in most places but would love to see an updated more detailed video on night latching and trap mods. Watched the older videos but the night latching wasn’t the very detailed to me.
Awesome video and thank you for taking the time to make these videos for the ones who are just getting into trapping and wanting to learn great tips to help them including myself.
That’s THE BEST SOUND right there!! Yes indeed.... I use a 55 gal. Barrel full of wax dirt a season. Got to use it here “up north”. Thanks for sharing. Stay well
Another good video when and how ever it come. It's always open some windows to see if you can find other ways to help you on your line or other projects 👍
Thanks, purfect timing. Need to mix up some for late season coyotes here in Southern Indiana. I had a lot of trouble with wax sand this year with digging at my beds and avoidance issues. I think I smoked the wax. Thanks for all the great videos.
Short funny story, I watched the vid years ago and put my mixer to work and made 30 gallons. Put the dry waxed dirt in 2 totes with the lids barely open to store ..........stink bugs love dry wax dirt for homes .........in case anyone was wondering.
I'm fairly new to the channel and I really appreciate the work you put into your channel. That older video was one that caught my attention and just so you know I subscribed today Bc Newfie today. Its really nice to see a community stick together. I binge watch you and meat trapper along with catching a few other people. Anyway I just wanted to say Thank you for sharing your knowledge in a way that's understandable.
I'm from western PA so does that mean I'm in the grundle of the country? It's always wet here and the sun never shines. Wax dirt always works for me here in the gooch.👍
I'm glade i follow you. Good video on the dry dirt. Question if the dirt has moisture in it. Can i heat it till the moisture is gone. And then do the wax?
What am I watching?! 🤣 I was looking up craft candle wax stuff... Lol 🕯️😅 Hey I don't know but men teaching how to make wax dirt sounds like really cool man stuff! Yes if I was married my man could make all the wax dirt in my kitchen he wanted. Just please let me help and tell me what the heck it is and why it's needed! Now I'm going to need to go watch other videos about wax dirt... I really hope no one asks what I did tonight. 🤣😂 💯 Might make me some wax dirt later... 😀👍
A surform tool works well also to flake wax, just clean with a wire brush if it clogs, real cold wax works better. Surform is similar to a rasp yet not a file, similar to a hand plane but has a grater blade instead of solid & a handle like a file.
Amen! At today's fuel & maintenance prices & all time invested! "Time, the only truely un renewable resource!" What is a second worth? Ask someone a moment before a truck hits them? No one can honestly afford to check empty frozen in traps. Temps change quick, targets hibernate & it can be over for the year if the cold stays.
Great video i watched your "production size way" about 2 years ago and thought damn I cant do this without spending a fortune lol... You got a great channel man by far the best trapping channel and honestly out of all the different content i watch your channel is my best of show if it were called that lol.. Any awesome videos I look forward to seeing all your new videos. I would love to see a video dedicated to skunk trapping. Dos and dont's, what traps' bait lure ect
Years ago when I just started out my mother about killed me. I just got home from school thinking I had time to make a batch and she got home and was wondering why the oven was on. Asked me if I was cooking and hesitantly told her yes. She opened the oven and to her surprise, I had a cookie sheet with a batch of wax dirt in there...she wasnt happy.
Check out Hoof GP. He trims cow feet & uses a Metabo with a special wheel that takes off the initial layers of hoof. Might could be able to adapt that for wax flaking???
Would it work to just melt the wax on the stove and heat the dirt in the oven and then just mix them while theyre at about 150-160 and stir it while it cools? Not sure why it has to be flaked if it just melts in. Thanks for the video btw!
This is the best channel ever
Agreed
1am new years eve and I'm watching a redneck cook dirt on UA-cam
🤣🤣🤣
Couple nights before new years and I’m in the same boat lol
Hungover New Year’s Day, same
😂😂
Me actually watching to learn how to cook my own dirt 😂😅
I’m late to make this season, but I am the wife, brand new to trapping, and will be using my kitchen to make this. And probably store it in Tupperware!
I have melted my wax for years and never had a issue saves so much time.

These guys make trapping look easy! Reason I say this is I have started "trying" again. Zero catches, but I'm targeting mink.
I am not one to commit but you do have some of the best videos on utube on trapping!! Thank you ☺️
to check for moisture hold a mirror an inch above hot dirt, if no moisture gathers on the mirror then its dry
Fantastic video Stu 👍! This will help a lot of new trappers getting into this tradition. Give ol' Rebel Dog an extra treat from me 👌.
Just did this on about 1.25 gallons of dirt in
Beer time! I just opened mine!
Stu.... I've never trapped one day in my life.... BUT you seem to keep my attention! VERY WELL DONE!!! Thank you for your vids!!!
Love seeing rebel dog hes a very perty blue tic
Had no clue what wax dirt was til I started watching your channel. Thanks for the walkthrough!
I know trapping season is starting to wind down in most places but would love to see an updated more detailed video on night latching and trap mods. Watched the older videos but the night latching wasn’t the very detailed to me.
I remember when the original one came out, but this is perfect for smaller batches. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe, and God bless
Great video Stu!
The small batch hack is a good one as not everyone has a mixer OR the ROOM to make a large batch at a time.
I learn every time I watch a video from him
Just dropping in to feed the algorithm. Thanks for the videos
Awesome bro, I watch a few trapping channels and you are the first I've seen show how to make it 👍👍👍 easy and straightforward, cheers 🍻 👍
Hey always learning when watching you hey caught my first otter this year
Wonderful information. First batch going on the stove tonight! Thanks from Wisconsin.
Thank you this helps me out a lot!!!! Only caught a fox on the footholds trying to catch coyotes but have not popped that cherry yet!!!!

I definitely want to do this for next season. Thanks for sharing.
Short funny story, I watched the vid years ago and put my mixer to work and made 30 gallons. Put the dry waxed dirt in 2 totes with the lids barely open to store ..........stink bugs love dry wax dirt for homes .........in case anyone was wondering.
😂 cat crapped in mine before I made a lid for my 55 gallon barrels lol

That is indeed a good sound.
VERY EDUCATIONAL! I WILL TRY IT.THANK YOU FOR SHARING
I’ve popped traps after 3-4 weeks after snow rain everything and if it don’t catch I’ll pop that trap and the dry dust flys stuff works
9:53 stu realizes he never has to crumble again! 🤣😳
Thank you. I waa wondering what else Im goingbto have to buy
gulf wax in the canning section ( of some grocery stores) is paraffin wax also.
Be careful when just buying wax ,because some of it has a scent to it . And just because you can't smell it doesn't mean it's not there.
@@randym148 gulf wax is for canning, no additives, People used it to seal jelly jars.
Great job man. Thanks for the great information. Keep up the great work.
Brother you have some good info videos. I'm all about helping other people with trapping info. Keep up the videos and and good trapping to you
Thanks for the great content bud I will use this for sure and keep up the good work
Ty.i get alot of my traps froze down.n really didn't no how to make wax dirt.
I an going to make a wax dirt otter toilet for a dock next season. Rainforest in southeast alaska... gonna give it a go!
I need to get back to trapping, it's illegal in my state so we have plenty of critters. Coyotes in my field and lots of fox.
Great job. I really appreciate the information. Thank You
Question, trapping coyotes. Do you need to worry about scent control before and after making the qax dirt ? handling the dirt with bare hands ??
Btw, to rebel dog: "who's a good boy!?"
Great content, i forgotten the small batch method.
Thanks for the small batch info.
Well darn I believe Hobby Lobby stopped taking the coupons last year wish I would’ve stocked up. As always great video STU.

Do u have a video on trap care and maintinence
Sounds like ND but - below temps and windshields
The first time I ever seen wax dirt was with Mark June. He made it and sells it. this was back in the 80s.
Thanks for showing us the cheep way. This is just a hobby for us to have fun with. Do you have any way to home tan on the cheep and easy? God Bless
Ez tanning 100 is a very good kit
I'm from western PA so does that mean I'm in the grundle of the country? It's always wet here and the sun never shines. Wax dirt always works for me here in the gooch.👍
Yes. Be thankful
Having trouble finding that size of cat litter jug. Can you tell me the brand and weight? Where did you get that jug?
Thanks for the video ! This is going to come in handy .
Nice demo.
Do you need to use cardboard? I got big commercial size aluminum baking sheets.
Thanks
I'm glade i follow you. Good video on the dry dirt. Question if the dirt has moisture in it. Can i heat it till the moisture is gone. And then do the wax?
Dont have any natty lights though just crown apple so well see how it goes
So is general-purpose wax I seen at hobby lobby bc I seen small blocks of paraffin wax but only general purpose of 10 pound block
What am I watching?! 🤣
I was looking up craft candle wax stuff... Lol 🕯️😅

Can you use trap wax for waxed dirt?
Awesome video
Just what I needed.
I bought flake wax before seeing this video, but next time I’ll flake my own.
Awesome channel, my coyotes don’t stand a chance! I cheated and ordered 5# of wax dirt… but when it runs out I’ll know how to make it myself!
I allways used polypropylene srayed on dry dirt, mixed, sprayed again, mixed, sprayed again. Never had a freeze up.
Great Informational Video !! 😎
Thanks for info. Very helpful

How many traps can you bed with a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket full of waxed dirt?

can I use mason sand
Love the fur shed

Making wax dirt for the first time. Is it ok that the dirt stinks from drying it out ? Is that normal ? Thanks
There's Rebel ! Thanks for sharing 🍻 I have one with you 😊 🍺
What do you do to knock down the human scent from making it?
how many gallons of dirt do u get out of 10 lbs of wax
Years ago when I just started out my mother about killed me. I just got home from school thinking I had time to make a batch and she got home and was wondering why the oven was on. Would love to see you training a new pup.
We Love us some Rebel Dog !!!!
I had a thought. If you have some old (5 or 6 years old) trap wax, would that work?
I'm in tn with alot of rain screwing me up will this help
Check out Hoof GP. He trims cow feet & uses a Metabo with a special wheel that takes off the initial layers of hoof. Might could be able to adapt that for wax flaking???
A one inch paddle bit works good
Ever tried using dirt in a stove let it set on the fire for a bit and smolder it seems like it’d take a while to loose its heat could work man
Would it work to just melt the wax on the stove and heat the dirt in the oven and then just mix them while theyre at about 150-160 and stir it while it cools?
Not sure why it has to be flaked if it just melts in. Thanks for the video btw!
Thank you love the video, good stuff
Here in Oklahoma my soil is like a 70/ 30 sand to clay mix
Can you make wax dirt with such a sandy soil?? Im fix in to try it!!
