I really appreciate how informative your videos are and how you present the information. Thanks for all your efforts. I haven't trapped for 10 years. I'm now retired, I just bought some traps and supplies. As soon as I buy my trapping license I will be at it again. Pretty small scale, but that's a start. Watching your videos pushed me to trap again. Thanks much
Great video. I’ve learned so much watching your channel. When I first started, I was a scent control freak and was setting traps at places that looked good to me, not really paying attention to sign. Now, I’ve realized that you’re never going to cover your scent and I set 90% of my traps right next to definite sign. From doing so, i was able to catch 13 fox off of a friends farm. I am now targeting coyotes where I’ve seen not only plenty of sign but have just as many yotes as deer on camera. Based off of the things you have shown on your channel, I am super confident I can finally connect with an animal I have waited a long time to catch. Thank you for your inspiration, knowledge and wisdom on the trapline, and keep on catching em!
Yes! Thank you for weeding out the BS and laying down some solid knowledge. Keep it simple. Too many salesman and “experts” out there misleading new trappers. Trapping contests have been won on fried chicken-not the fancy baits and lures. However, I will say that when temps drop below zero coyotes are interested in more natural baits/food rather than something that smells interesting. Keep up the great content!
Good video ive been using food that goes bad and making catches. Thats what ive learned from you long ago SET ON SIGN i believe is the truest thing in trapping good job
Liked that set for holding up to rain. It's been nothing but rain and mud here til about a week ago. Didn't know what to do really. Will have to give this a try. Thanks for the video!
SUPER appreciate this video. ive got porcupine meat ive been thinking of using and now youve given me some confidence to try and use it. you have change the way ill run my lines completely. thanks so much
Location is by FAR number one and is still something I seem to struggle with. I catch probably 75% of my predators on blind sets but what I do catch on dirt hole sets is mostly on muskrat and a little bit of straight skunk essence. I didn't know anything about fur handling and very little about trapping till I started watching ur channel. Thanks for the information and the inspiration to try new things.
Thanks for getting us to the basics. Love the hay(grass) set, Have had it work in the past, but frankly had forgotten about it. LOL Thanks for the reminder , this is what makes you the best teacher I've seen, learned 90% about trapping and fur handling from your channel.
I set traps the way my Dad taught me,"Set on Sign"! If you think about it deer hunting is pretty similar. The only difference is your attempting to catch deer moving during daylight hours. So you set up on the sign as close as possible to where you think their bedding cover is. During the rut set up where they transition from doe bedding to doe bedding. Good luck & God bless!
Excellent video man! Total Game changer for this new trapper on how to set in wet conditions and not worrying about all the fancy-schmancy lures and baits, etc. #TacoMeat! #Location! #SetOnSign!
So kind of a hay bale, pipe dream, taco set. That's different, but if it works that's what matters. Beaver meat is my go to bait for any land animal, castor on most things. Just I'm cheap and like to use what I make myself. Even make my own cages that I trap with. Independence is a good thing to have, if I can't afford bait and lure, or you can't get it, good to know how to do without it. Thanks for the video Stu!
Great advice ! As a kid in the 70's I remember Dad asking Mom for any meat from fridge or freeze for sets. All he had for traps were a few old 1 1/2 longsprings. Made bed covered with grass , leaves , etc. Meat covered near trap. He caught coons foxes even mink in these dry sets. He did sneak out some fresh chicken liver occasionally
To anyone with experience: tried this set. Used clippers and covered with grass/hay found at the sight. Today found a coyote had committed to the set (4 lbs. tension) and pulled out leaving just a bunch of grass in the set. Did the grass allow him enough wiggle room to get out or what?
I just started(this week)setting traps , I set 4 coon traps and caught 2 coons and was very happy with that. I had used some cheap cat food . My next attempt will be for some coyotes running on the land I hunt and had been wondering what to use for bait ,this was very helpful thanks .
I watch and enjoy all your videos. I would like to mention for those wanting only coyotes use coyote urine to keep foxes away from the larger coyote traps. I know some use offset jaws and softcatch pads. Here in Kansas our fox population is down so they need all the help they can get. We need to make more bobcat coats. They're hell on foxes. As always good video.
Very good to watch. You're really pufting out the vids and they're GOOD. Thanks for takin' the time, and hopefully YT is makin' it worth your while. Keep on keepin' on, brother.
Just wanted to say thanks for getting me back into trapping. Between you and Scotty I’ve learned and refreshed a ton of good information that has payed off on the line. Haven’t connected on the predators yet but got 6 beaver skins boarded up plus castor and with fixings the meat is delicious!
Excellent, love a straight shooter, dead birds, dead rabbit's, mice, etc. Wild dogs eat everything. I tried something called "fool proof" guarantee and the only guarantee was made a fool of me. He got my money, I caught nothing, lol. Thanks again bro for your honesty.
Great video Stu! A lot of people try to rely on a bait or lure when in reality you have to set where they are. You can catch one with just a turd if you know what your doing 😉
great video Stu. I caught some muskrats early in the season, ran the carcass through the grinder, let it taint then salted to stop the spoil. Caught 3 fox on that bait near a friends chicken coop.
Another awesome video. Glad to see you putting out common sense info. Not all baits in trapping have to be store bought or come in a jar and not all sets have to follow an exact profile. Thanks for the video Stu!!
I use dirt cheap doggy treats. 1" cubed chunks, stuffed all the way down at the bottom of the dirt hole. If you are setting on sign, then it doesn't take much to pull them in.
Thanks for sharing coon creek I've learned setting on sign and bedding traps right is just as important caught my first coyote DEC 31 and I've caught 2 since then i got a lot of $ into bait but caught my last 2 coyote Jan 13 and 14th caught on ground up beaver I pulled from freezer few weeks ago and bearded mans castor
I have a question about how do you get the anchor you use on your traps out of the ground when pulling a trap. I have only used rebar stakes and would like to change to the type that you use for ease and convenience. They appear to be very effective, but I don't have any experience using them.
I use a lot of pieces of small game hide, heads, livers, offerings the cat leaves me on the porch. Oh yeah turkey necks. Have a good day and good video
Than you for doing this video this really opened my eyes on what a lot of people have said on how much bs is out there the reason why I watch you is because your straightforward and tell it has you see it
Thanks for the video!! Really brought somethings into perspective for me. Just starting out coyote trapping and I am learning a lot. Thanks again man your videos are the best. They have taught me a lot in the past 3 years.
I hate to do it but not really cause I'm gonna ask it. Is your DP bait secret or will you share it with us beginners. I have followed you since I got back into trapping after almost 50 years. I have learned a ton and my predator success is increasing exponentially. With that My confidence after 3 years is starting to set in. Great stuff keep it going.
I am definitely very very big on definitely setting on sign for sure!! I definitely agree with you and that is definitely the only way that my traps get put in the ground is only if I see sign for sure!! Awesome video buddy!! Remember keep up all the hard work buddy!! Your definitely doing awesome job at it!!
Not to get off subject… but I have A question I know you dye and wax your traps… I been pondering painting or powder coating in short what’s your opinion both good and bad ty for your time anyone else feel free to answer or give your opinion
How often do you run sets ,,,,,every 2 days ,,,,3 days ,,,,,I know coyotes n Bob cats don't travel the same routes every nite ,,,,,some say it could take bobcats 5 to 7 days to come back threw a place ,,,,,,,,,and now some trappers put out Wi-Fi cameras to monitor trap lines ,,,the out out one at beginning and one at the end ,,,,your thoughts
“You can’t catch a critter that ain’t there.” Simple logic but then how many of us know someone that doesn’t use logic?? Calls and lures should be used to hold the animals attention and make it “want” to work your set. The target animals have to actually be there first. Good video as always.
I caught my first Coyote in a dirt hole with ZERO scent control (not even gloves) and the only ''bait or lure'' I used was rubbing a chickens leg that my dog had killed against the backdrop and a couple feathers.
@@rocknraptor3195 that's awesome. And I didn't even leave the chicken leg there. I had just rubbed it around. Getting them with zero scent control has surprised me more.
You ever get things figured out? I see occasional sign where I am but not heavy. This will be my first year and I could see myself putting a trap by any turd or track I find and not a concentration of sign out of excitement, and then disappointment for a while after.

This is a good night chili for dinner and a new video
Long awaited questions just answered without show boating or hocking gimmicks , thanks Stu!
This is why you rock and why your channel is so great

Like Jeff Dunlap said 'high hopes and low expectations'
it is what it is
thanks for the time to make these videos

Your teaching this old trapper lot’s good 👍 things thanks
I believe you are spot on about bait, and your not promoting "your" bait and lure. Keep on pumping out these quality videos. Stay safe and God bless
Such crap with our bobcat laws in Illinois… great video 👍👍

👍👍 blind sets will work if you set on sign!!
Great video. Thank you for your transparency on the subject. Very refreshing to hear the honest truth this day and age.
Love the advice keep them coming. I have used can dog food to catch coyotes here where I'm from.
I watch and enjoy all your videos. I would like to mention for those wanting only coyotes use coyote urine to keep foxes away from the larger coyote traps. nice job.
" set on sign"Truer words have not been spoken!

Great video Stu! A lot of people try to rely on a bait or lure when in reality you have to set where they are. You can catch one with just a turd if you know what your doing 😉
Absolutely! Use it on many of mine. Find where they come and go and you are golden.
Rains a lot here in Oregon also I use a limb hollowed out with holes drilled in it and packed with bait. Works really well
Awesome video stu.thanks for all the tips!! Best of luck to ya this season.
Good video! We’re new to trapping but this makes a lot of sense, people do live overeating bait & lures.
great video Stu. I caught some muskrats early in the season, ran the carcass through the grinder, let it taint then salted to stop the spoil. Caught 3 fox on that bait near a friends chicken coop.
Nice catches stu like you I catch on all kind of critters on homemade bait's👍
great video made me think a little bit
I am Just a beginner , but this guy sure puts the FACTS out there.
Thanks
I would like to see you modify and set some long spring traps
Another awesome video. Glad to see you putting out common sense info. Not all baits in trapping have to be store bought or come in a jar and not all sets have to follow an exact profile. Thanks for the video Stu!!

Very nice cool set.
Have you ever used commercial baits and lures?
I use a lot of pieces of small game hide, heads, livers, offerings the cat leaves me on the porch. Oh yeah turkey necks. Have a good day and good video

Thanks for making your videos I really look forward to seeing them first year trapping for me 3 coyotes and 1 fox so far
Great video! I’ve never used food scraps but now I see that I need to be.
Thanks for the video!! Really brought somethings into perspective for me. Just starting out coyote trapping and I am learning a lot. Thanks again man your videos are the best. They have taught me a lot in the past 3 years.

This is an excellent video! Thanks for your help and I completely agree. I am glad I subscribed! What state are you in???
Another good video Stu. Keep up the great instruction and encouragement. 🙏🏻😎
Well said. Good job and yes, I enjoyed it to the end.
Yes sir taco meat beavers castor and a little skunk essence. Nice catch
Great video thanks
I really enjoy your videos! Thank you
🤣😂🤣 Look out Chiptole, here comes Stu's tacos.
Well said. Best bait in the world wont catch if you don’t set where the critters are.
Great video 👍

I caught my first Coyote in a dirt hole with ZERO scent control (not even gloves) and the only ''bait or lure'' I used was rubbing a chickens leg that my dog had killed against the backdrop and a couple feathers.
👍yep. I've made catches with dead birds too. Fox & yotes.
@@rocknraptor3195 that's awesome. And I didn't even leave the chicken leg there. I had just rubbed it around. Getting them with zero scent control has surprised me more.
Thank you for these styles of videos! Enjoying the content keep it up!
Great vid!! Thanks!!
Can we get a video on your portable bait pocket that you made/use?
Still another great video thank you 💯💯👍🏽
What kind of carara do you use for filming?
Great information!
Thanks for sharing !!!!
So helpful!
I totally agree with you about bait.
Great video thanks for sharing
Very true. And well put!
Good vid good luck trapping!
I just started trapping this year im set on sign how long should I leave the traps in without getting anything
You ever get things figured out?
I see occasional sign where I am but not heavy. This will be my first year and I could see myself putting a trap by any turd or track I find and not a concentration of sign out of excitement, and then disappointment for a while after.
great video and information.
Could you use the 650 for beaver also?
