Watched this video last week and decided to give it a shot with my #2 dogless dukes. Got my first fox this morning with a nice deep pad catch. Thanks for all your help so far. Your videos have been a HUGE help!!
I have not trapped in ten years and finding you on youtube has given me back that Trapper Drive to get back out there this year! Thanks! keep up the great Video! I have always loved the smell of fresh pelts hanging in my fur shed.
I have a fondness for long springs, that’s the trap I started with way back in my youth. Still use them for dogs. I do understand that coil traps fire faster out of frozen ground, and these beasts look like some fine traps. I like to wax my traps just this same way, since it was you who taught me this about seven years ago. Thanks again my friend, you have helped a lot of us!
I decided to try trapping a few weeks ago: spent a bunch of money, got some worthless fur, AND get to check traps in 6 degree, snowy weather ;) even went thru the ice checking beaver sets today! LOL fun times :)
I am running less than a dozen traps. I work construction and every winter find places to set traps on the way. I've learned to pack extra clothes for getting soaked.
Caught two in two days on my first two sets! Well... a make and a fresh remake. Needless to say I was thrilled! Two coyote mounts in my near future... Thanks for all of the great advice and videos.
Great videos. If you are only doing one or two, you can flake the wax onto the trap and then use a blow torch. The trap will look wet when the push the wax around the trap with the flame and make it easy to get it in all the tight places. Miss a spot, flake more on and melt it with the torch.
I'm new at this art. My aim is to control predators and nest raidtors on my 40.I watch you and Allen Probst. I really enjoy Watching both of you guys. Thanks.
I'm like you, I have been trapping since I was 10 years old now I'm 60, and I always die and wax my traps it helps keep them smell proof for K9s and keeps your water sets from rusting! I'm a Michigan Trapper. Keep the great video coming. Thanks!
Great video. We are just now starting to trap ( in the summer because we need to eliminate some coyotes),. This is good info for a quick prep for now and we will dye and wax again in January. Thanks for all your videos. They are great!
I wax mine the same way you do and have good luck. Mid-season resets or moving traps that have already caught just get pressure washed and waxed to be set again. I will clean, die and wax everything to start the next season.
Good video. I drove 5.5 hrs down to Duke traps last Friday. The traps i bought was Duke #2 dogless 4 coil offset. And Duke pro 850's. When i got home i laminated the dogless # 2. And the 850's are tanks. They are heavier built than my Bridger # 5 coil , DLS and my CDR beaver traps. Only issues i had with #2. I had to ajust the dogless part on 8 of them. I painted mine and fmj. I got logwood dye set up. Cant wait too try the 850's out. The trap i like the best are # 3. But they cant have a inside jaw spread 6 inch max. So i went with the # 2 dogless. I am going to just type trap. Mr Duke and i was talking. They are looking at making a # 3 dogless square jaw trap. I hope so and a 6 inch jaws spread.
I showed this method of waxing on Trapping Talk a couple years ago to help some of the new Trappers get some steal in the ground quickly and you would have thought I stomped their toes or something with all the negative comments I got. Good video
I have a question that I have not seen posted before. Let's say you are running a property and catch several Coons possum skunks along with coyotes and bobcats. It is time to pull your traps and reset on a new farm. What is the best way to re-clean and prep the traps so that they can be used on the new farm? Especially when you have encountered skunks that often leave residual odors on traps and chains and drags if you use them. I don't have the time to reboil and relax traps in the middle of season so just curious to see what others are doing.
I’m enjoying the videos. I’ve got my first traps coming and I thought of waxing them just like this, until I didn’t see any videos waxing this way. ( we used to dip ducks in wax to clean, just like this) So now, I’m going for it just like this too, after I dye them. Thanks
Just ran accrossed your channel. You make more work with new traps in middle of season. I just out side traps on grass dawn coat wash off with hose let dry and set. Caught many first night this way. Yes I use salt as antifreeze.
Glad to see someone else buys new traps late in the season. Thought I was the only one! HA. Got a whole box of brand new dog proofs and some anchor cables sitting on my floor right here that just came in. Hope to get them out this weekend, weather permitting. Hope you will do a few follow up videos on the new Duke's so we can see how they hold up out on the trap line. Tight chains!
That's a good time-saving method, but for the few traps I run and not being a pro where time is money, I just love the look of a dark, well dyed trap. Looks sharp, even though it doesn't catch anymore than a shiny one!
wow.i havent trapped in 40 years ,i still have over 1 hundred traps # 110/220/330 conibear, victor #11 ,victor 1 VG,,,Blake n lamb #2,,,victor jump #3,,,your doing a great job of teaching bud,
I just ordered a dozen Duke 550 traps. Great tip on the waxing. I was wondering how to do it. I'm new to trapping. Second season. Caught a bobcat and a badger last year along with the normal racoons and opossums. My goal this year is a coyote. Enjoy your channel. Keep it up.
My wax pot is the same size as the one you used. Mine is all wax, no water. I've never tried water and wax, might have to give that a try some day. Those are nice looking traps. I run all bridger #3's and like them a lot. Later Stu and all the best.
Unfortunately the 650 illegal here in SC. Bought some Duke 550s will see how they run next weekend, going for my first coyote. Just ordered the Airforce Texan after your Talon review but got the Texan SS in .308. Great waxing tip...never thought of pulling it up through! Thanks for the continued superb content!
Awesomr video really in depth and detailed. Thanks for putting out great content. I haven't seen a video on pulling canine sets ever. Do you think you could show your method and others as well.
Thank god u made this lol I been tryin to get my new traps ready for ever and can’t make my mind up on wat to do how long will u boil then for to get the wax off I just got a glass cooker and I’m completely new to this whole thing any advise will help a ton thanks
My dad used to use the dip and I absolutely hated handling his traps, he used mine one day and said boy those are nice what did you do? I laughed and said I did what you didn’t want to take the extra time to do lol, all have their purpose and all personal preference, nice job nice video
It is almost the same way I prep my traps. The only difference is I add log wood dye in with it. I dye and wax at the same time. However I did try full metal jacket on some traps this year. It seems to work pretty good except the iced seems to linger on the traps for about 3 days.
Hey man do a review on duke #2 offset square dogless cuz i just got some and the channels that review them dont do a good job but i like your reviews so yeah
I wax my traps exactly the same way always have. Rust and die first whenever possible. I just purchased 2 new duke 550s did the same exact thing minus rust and dye they're on the line waiting for a coyote.
Great video. I just purchased a dozen MB-650 cast with the finned super steaks anchors with the 18” of chain attached. Have you used Formula 1 trap water based kote?Have you used this or recommend it? Thanks.
I was using speed dip but went back to dying and waxing traps. A lot of guys like to use speed dip here on saltwater wolf sets. dont know if im going to keep using speed dip for saltwater or back to due and wax for it.
Great videos but I have a off topic question. What do you use for coon bait in dps? I'm having a hard time getting them to pull the triggers and somethings coming through and licking the traps clean at times. That's happened about 3 times. Anyway great videos thanks for your helpful info.
I use the packaged soft dry dog food. Mice can empty the trap of bait, I put an old golf ball on top to prevent that. I had game cam pics of 7 raccoons at a deer corn feeder. I set out 2 DPs at edge of timber where I had seen them come out from about 20yds from the feeder. I doubled up on the 2nd 3rd and 4th night skipped a couple of days then had another raccoon and a skunk. I have also used floating fish food pellets. I didn't have any success with mini marsh mellows.
Thanks for the Intel. Running new traps on 80 acres trying thin predators out. Trying mb550 now. Several dp traps get the coons. Your videos help out alot
Nice video man. Keep the content coming. Im looking to buy some 550's and 650's next year for me and my 10 yr old son to run on our line. Want to upgrade from our old duke #2's and Bridger #3's. Much love from our family to yours from central Oklahoma.
Love the videos! Pretty excited to start trapping. My traps are degreased and surface rusted. Going to try and dye them today or tomorrow. Can I add wax to the dye water when all the traps have been dyed and then wax right away or do I need to wait between dying and waxing?
No foothold trap with an outside jaw spread larger than 6 1/2 inches, or 7 inches maximum if laminated above the jaw surfaces, or tooth-jawed trap may be used in making a land set. “State of New Mexico land set law. So which trap best fits this description of 6.5 jaw spread?” Thanks
help me out bro i have a bobcat problem killing chickens i bought a duke 1 1/2 dyed it with oak leafs but didnt rust it up good enough... my question is do i need trapper wax for the traps and the wax dirt or can i use the wax you talked about at hobby lobby also what is the best bait urine and lure for bobcats??? thank you for sharing the videos
I caught my first Coyote today.
Congrats buddy. Your hooked now.
Congrats on the yote. You'll never forget that one!!! Good luck on future catches.

Give up and go back to your real life.
@@swampwhiteoak1 LOL, I am just trying to extend my hunting season :) Beaver tastes better then most ducks, so...
It’s crazy what a guy will do for $5
I am running less than a dozen traps. I work construction and every winter find places to set traps on the way. I've learned to pack extra clothes for getting soaked.
Awesome tip for us that don't run a lot of traps. Thanks 👍
Caught two in two days on my first two sets! Well... a make and a fresh remake. Needless to say I was thrilled! Two coyote mounts in my near future...
Thanks for all of the great advice and videos.
I love that you promote airguns for dispatching. I use an FX Impact M3 in 25 cal.
Great video I don’t use many traps this is the way I’ll be waxing mine from now on!!
Great video. I had no idea how simple and how little wax is required. Thanks!
Your helping more beginners than you will ever know

Thanks for the info just got my trapping license, it being late season needed this , much appreciated

Can’t wait to try these traps.

If you also add some vinegar to the dawn and water solution it will add more rust to your traps so the wax will stick better.
Those traps are really nice ones

try to figure out what they normaly eat in your area, and use that. or something smelly like fish

nice
Do a video on how to remove traps and anchors, mine don’t pull up so easy, especially here in Maryland we’re there is rock in the ground
Dishwasher I'm not even gonna go there😂 Dont forget to unhook that hose. Man that would be mess.
Do you adjust the pan tension? I got my 550s today and the pan tension on 4 1/2.
Nice job Stu!
Curious what your final thoughts were on the 650s. I use 550s but looking at picking up a few doz more canine traps for next season.
I had a shotgun rust blued . Seems like that would make great looking traps. I think it's just boiling distilled water with salt in it.
Great video
Good stuff

What wax do you use?
Where do you store your traps or how do you store them once there waxed until you set them?
What did you call your stake system and where do you get them?
Is there a trap wax or just paraffin? Thanks
Can you save dye if you’ve already boiled with it?
Yes
No foothold trap with an outside jaw spread

thank you for sharing the videos
Do you clean the wax off the end of the dog and the catch on the trap pan?
yes. I used a nail or razor blade.
