So I was randomly doing research on Pizza culture in Buenos Aires, Argentina and weirdly all of the trademarks of Old Forge-Style Pizza show up there too. (Thick fluffy dough, heavy cheese, double-crust white pizzas) Wondering if there's a good reason for that - regional origins of the local Italian communities? We need Pizza Show: Buenos Aires... www.saveur.com/buenos-aires-pizza-guide
one of the many charms of this show is how Frank is actually genuinely interested in learning different ways to make pizza in America, and he's not at all condescending even if he himself is a pizza connoisseur. 👌 Also this is one of the most supportive communities I've watched on this show so far.
It's, like, the opposite of Really Dough! There, it's just Mark Iacono being a lovable curmudgeon eating bizarre pizza concoctions and deeming them not pizza, and here, Frank is excited about every pizza variant he comes across, and wants to pass his passion onto the masses!
Man it sucks this show isn’t around anymore. Being from New York we have some of the best pizza, but this show really made me have an appreciation for other places.
Frank (don't know if you read the comments), but I think this is one of your best episodes. You took us somewhere I never knew existed and got me to appreciate their culture. This is why I love the show and think you get better at it over time. You have a natural curiosity in people and that's crucial to what you do. Can't wait for the next episode.
I'm from Philly and I have friends in towns all over this area: Wilkes Barre, Pittston, Scranton ... but I met a new friend who lives in Old Forge and he gave me a tour of his hometown. It is wonderful. This program is about pizza but up and down the main street are several fantastic Italian restaurants. This area, formally anthracite coal mining towns, is really unique and worth visiting.
Ave Pi they kind underplayed it a lil...yea theres 20 pizza places in our small town...but theres probably another 10 or 15 other restaurants that dont serve pizza...that interview with the mayor...they are sitting in front of bacci ball pits...what pizza place has bacci ball pits for you to enjoy while you eat?....only in old forge
The thing I love most about Frank is that he is so respectful and kind to everyone. He brings out the best in all the pizza makers. What a wonderful presenter. My favorite of any host.
+Yvr Jd LMFAO :-D omg you killed me. Im dead +Randy Miller III :-P those are called Croc's. Mario Batali wears them in Orange, like every day of his life LOL
One of my favorite bands called Title Fight is from Kingston, PA and they're always talking about pizza places in their town and how good they are and how PA is known for pizza. I guess there's tons of cities in PA like this one. Awesome episode.
My mom's family comes from Wilkes Barre. I and one of the things I loved about visiting was eating Old Forge style pizza. At the best places, your only choice was the size and whether you wanted onions on it.
I am Proud of our Town and yes there were other Pizza Places Frank did not visit here in Old Forge. All of them have their own taste and all are so delicious. Five of them are full Restaurants. They ship their Pizza to people who grew up here all around the Country.
Grew up in that area and have lived all over the country... there is nothing like it anywhere. Thanks Frank! When are you going to shoot new episodes ??
This is a nice touristy area. Or it was before covid. You could stop at some ghost towns on the way and some old mining towns. And there is a lot more old Forge style pizza then and just this town. There is a bit of Amish country and some solid hiking trails like Pinnacle
The stuff you have in middle school is trying to be this. It’s trying to be Detroit and NY Sicilian as well. The difference is the way it’s cooked and the ingredients used.
The whole point of The Pizza Show is to showcase the variety of pizza around the world. If you only want to see the kind of pizza YOU like, then search whatever that is specifically, instead of tuning in to this and then complaining in the comments.
In the bgeinning where Frank was like "The Pizza Capital of the worllddddddddd" Was probably the first hint of saracasm/trolling I've ever seen from him on the show lol.
Not the pizza capital of the world but man Old Forge pizza is good. Don't knock it until you try it. I literally had to detour going back from NYC into this small city to try it.
Wasted trip. It's a town full of undercooked sicilian slices that rank no higher than a 7. If you were going to try a non-New York pizza town, New Haven, CT should have been it.
julian slavin Did you even watch the video ?Lol there not Sicilian slices. The guy even says it it’s a lighter dough. Just because it’s square doesn’t mean it’s a Sicilian slice. Watch the whole video man, not just the intro. You watch then comment.
What an awesome host for this show, how does he do it every time from the narration to how he shows his love to pizza and ppl who make it, what great show
When we go home for the holidays we bring back about two pies from every old Forge style pizza place in town. And we eat it for the next couple weeks. We freeze it as well. hands down my favorite pizza of all time. It's always better cold and a day later.
Remember to take home an extra sheet with you that's what most people do because it tastes better than next day cold. Most people eat a cold the next day
I could be wrong, but when I lived in Taylor (right next door to Old Forge) in the early 70's, Old Forge was in the Guiness Book as having the most pizzerias per square mile, giving them that claim. Then I moved to NY, where they say pie instead of tray. Two different worlds, all of them great. And when I'm in Old Forge, Arcaro & Genell's is best (and they have a cool bocce pit, too).
I'm from this area. The town over. Pizza everywhere, but man oh man, do I hate square pizza. Scranton, the city over, has Papa's pizza. Best pizza if you're in the area.
This is my favorite place to live. So many great no chain Authentic Italian restaurants to pick from I've got them all around me!! Nicest safest place to live.❤
Old Forge may technically have a pop of 9000, but it's in the Scranton, Wilkes Barre valley area with a population of over 500000. Main street in Old Forge is the same Main street that runs through Scranton. The consumer base is pretty big.
My Family lives in Old Forge, still. I lived there for 5 years, the 7 months of gloomy, freezing weather really kicked my azz! I love Old Forge Pizza though. Its different & delicious. A few issues during those years. Not many deliver (if any) A lot are closed on Sunday, even Monday. You would think, during Football season, that's when those kind of places would be open. It may have changed since I left, who knows.
It’s funny because I just commented on the video where it’s almost a day in the life of Frank and you end it eating dinner with your family and I said how crazy similar our lives are with my father coming off the boat from Italy in 1969 in opening his first pizza place three years later and me being born and raised in the business in owning a few pizza places then I see this video on Oldforge which I am literally from about 45 minutes east of. This is the style I’m familiar with LOL
Bring it home with you it's kind of like bakery slices. Bring home a whole pie because it tastes better the next day. Everyone eats a cold the next day. It's kind of like chilli it doesn't consist of a lot of spices it's just about the sauce and cheese and it comes through better for some reason after being in the fridge

Old Forge has some decent pizza, but if you're looking to try what I think is one of the best slices in that area try the Sicilian from Antonio's on Capouse Ave in Scranton PA. It's delicious and will satisfy the pizza purists!
I could tell they didn’t use mozzarella as the primary cheese just from the opening shots of the pizza. It looks all congealed and gross. The good pizzerias use mozzarella for a reason.

The 570 I'm from NZ 😂 we're small. We have Sal's here, been a few times but it tastes really fake.
same here, is lovely to see that

Frank is the best host... what a sweetheart. I love how he interacts with the pizza makers...so gracious.
He's my dad
Fav episode so far. The people of that town genuinely like and respect one another. Very refreshing indeed.

Kingston is right down the road from Old Forge and a lot of places in the region try to copy their pizza.
My mom's family comes from Wilkes Barre. I and one of the things I loved about visiting was eating Old Forge style pizza. At the best places, your only choice was the size and whether you wanted onions on it.
Yes, I did just dab on the news.

What a wonderful community, bonding over food. I absolutely love it.
I rewatch all three seasons over and over
PLEASE GIVE ME MORE
The accents were 100% gold. So interesting how a small town could foster so many.
I hope this boosts tourism around there. It's not far from New York or Philly so it could become a day trip pizza pilgrimage for those folks. :)

Marconi's
Roma’s is where it’s at
Suffering Brings Wisdom but you HAVE TO EAT IT THERE it can’t be eaten anywhere else
Hows Michael Scott?
No it's gotta be Marino's man
That town needs its own tv show... "Old Forge!" population 9000?
This show is so amazing. I never realized how much I actually love pizza!
Best. pizza. show. EVER!!
The best!
Frank does a great job showing the different variations of Pizza there is a lot of history and tradition behind a simple yet tasty food
