    In linguistics this "r" sound is called a linking "r" and it happens for ease of articulation, so as not to interrupt the airflow from one vowel to the next (e.g. "dramar and poetry" instead of "drama and poetry"). This can also happen between the vowels of a single word, in which case it is called an intrusive "r". One example that comes to mind is the word "drawing", which can be pronounced as "drawring" by certain speakers of the English language. It is more common in certain regional accents (e.g. Cockney) and it tends to be looked down upon by posh speakers and "purists". But it's definitely a British thing and its aim is to make phonemes (vowels in particular) more cohesive.

    You mentioned Disturbed, and that video is the one I found you on and subscribed! lol even though I didn't fully agree with you... but I find it amazing how different UA-cam cultures are, some are so competitively toxic with others in their field, yet others are so helpful to one another and great streaming communities. I observed that the toxic vs. friendly thing is often the difference between the fans and the artists.
      There are disputes with almost religious fervor among fans about who is better, artist X or artist Y.
      But then you see a video where the two artists meet or talk about each other, and they have a lot of respect for each other. Sadly, that rarely rubs off on their followers.

      That does raise an interesting question, not all self-proclaimed vocal coaches are erm… qualified? So how does one choose who to collaborate with? Do you try to be nice and collaborate with everyone, or do you try to be somewhat selective so you don’t encourage musically incompetent individuals and give them exposure to an audience who may not know better and be harmed by trying to follow their “expert advice?”
      Difficult issue. 🤔

    • @Paulfighteronline
      @Paulfighteronline 3 роки тому +3

      @@samuel5916 I am a bit surprised that you are bringing up qualifications or musical competence tbh. Judging by the conversation with RVA, the goal of the series is to connect with fellow reactors, not to assess who is "musically competent". The reactors I mentioned are known for their technical analysis chops in the community and I'm sure Tara is capable of assessing the reactors in that regard if she thinks it is necessary. Can you explain why you think this is a difficult issue?😄

    • @samuel5916
      @samuel5916 3 роки тому +5

      @@Paulfighteronline I wasn’t trying to imply any of the people you named weren’t knowledgable coaches it just made me think about how many people on UA-cam call themselves a vocal coach and probably shouldn’t… There’s a difference between a person that makes reaction videos and a vocal coach who gives expert analysis so the audience can better understand what’s good or bad about a performance as well as learn new information about the art of voice.
      I won’t call out anyone but I’ve seen some EXTREMELY questionable advice put out by individuals calling themselves vocal coaches that could be harmful to people trying to become better singers. Unfortunately, some of these people are also quite popular. So that’s where I was coming from, because odds are some of those names will get recommended to Tara and she might have to decide if she wants to give that person exposure to her audience and potentially help spread bad information.
      But she’s also a very kind and loving person so if certain popular “vocal coaches” are conspicuously absent from this video series than it might raise uncomfortable questions about why. That’s why I said it’s a difficult issue.

    You're not the first vocal coaches who connect to each other. In fact, there seem to be large groups who regularly collaborate and even mention having met in person on international conferences. But only few of them offer reaction videos. And I have to say that many reaction channels on UA-cam lack what you offer: explanations not only of the artistic choices of the singers, but also clear explanations on how one could achieve this and what to practise.
    Looking forward to all your future collabs!

    I have to tell you that I was smiling or laughing the whole time. Love both of you young ladies and really enjoy your reactions that are not only fun but also have a lot of good information about things that I might have missed. I'm a 68 year old retiree who has dabbled in music since I was about 8 years old. I also love Julia Nilon from Australia and my favorite Scottish Lass, Beth, from Beth Roars and then of course Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice. There are two or three others that I watch occasionally that are coming from a musical education point of view and then I have a hand full of others that are not doing anything but having fun reacting to new songs that they've never heard before. It's always fun for me to watch a young reactor that's maybe mid 20's to about 40 hear a song from the sixties or seventies for the first time. Keep on doing what you're doing and I love this idea of you getting together with some of the other reactors. Thank You for the smiles!

  • @YngviFreyr
    @YngviFreyr 3 роки тому +1

    To answer Tara's question, it's called an epenthetic R (divided into linking R and intrusive R, depending on whether it's part of the word's spelling or not.)
    Linking Rs are a remnant in non-rhotic accents of when R was pronounced everywhere in words (and indeed some accents like General American remain fully rhotic). In accents like RP however (sort of Rebecca's "clearly pronounced" speech) where the R was lost in certain environments, it is still retained for reasons of euphony between vowel sounds (e.g.: "car and passengers" would have the R of car pronounced in British RP) and by extension is often inserted between vowel sounds where it isn't part of the spelling (as in "Peppa(r) and George", as Tara rightly points out.), resulting in an intrusive R.
    So basically some dialects/accents dislike neighbouring open vowel sounds and will insert an R sound between them, whether it's there in spelling or not 😆

    Beautiful ladies. I find Tara more knowledgeable as a vocal coach, but I think Rebecca is the better (pop) singer. They are my top 2 best vocal coaches here on youtube. They can walk their talk, practice what they preach. They, especially Tara, seem infinitely knowledgeable in terms of proper and technical singing. I like how they both demonstrate with so much ease the 'difficult' parts of the performance of the singers they react to..They really know what they are talking about..

    Yeah, Australians do have an “r” infliction at the end of a word usually ending in the letter A. One of my friends who lived in the US for the first half or so of her life, now lives in Australia (we’re both high school age), so she can switch between her Aussie accent and her American speaking whenever she wants/needs to

    The channel "Songs from a Suitcase" is fantastic! You and Audrey are by far the most generous with your voice knowledge, music mastery and overall understanding of all that goes into an incredible performance. If you don't already know Audrey, I think you'll love her.

      See I have heard of that one growing up in the US but more-so from old cartoons, I can’t recall ever hearing it used by someone I know.
