When Billie talks about her song “What was I made for” I got chills just like I did the first time I listened to it❤ Thanks to all these incredible artists/song writers for making songs that inspire us and connect us, mostly through music! 🎶
John's divine feminine energy fits so perfectly into this space. He doesn't feel the need to dominate or even to feel uncomfortable as the only man in the group, he's just flowing through the experience being gentle like a breeze. She’s kind of like the female version of Ryan Tedder. What a talent! And her humility through it all is so overlooked, I didn’t realize how humble she was until now. She should definitely own it more than she does, it’s ok to brag a little bit knowing how much she’s done in such a short amount of time. If she doesn’t want the insane fame, that’s okay and we should respect it, but she should really think more highly of herself. That’s probably the first time I’ve actually thought this about a celebrity!
@@odeleya1768 Ryan Tedder still has his band and tours that way with a crazy following. Julia has been on massive tours as well and has a huge fandom…she’s definitely a celebrity and has been in the game professionally for almost 20 years so she isn’t new.
@@chachabunny123ut I realize that and that’s definitely why I compared her to Ryan Tedder. By insane fame, I meant it’s ok for her to not credit herself on certain songs and give herself the recognition in that way if that’s not what she wants. She’s definitely famous, but fame wise, she’s not as popular as she definitely should be according to her talent and everything she’s done. And she’s had this fame for less than 10 years, since Issues came out.
I was crying so hard while he was telling his story about his wife and how creativity helped her and of course them both with the healing process like dude it was beautiful.
So glad Cynthia mentioned Laura Mvula because no one speaks of this woman who is beautiful and her voice and songs are just so magical and everything, and I kinda see a similar voice and quality to her and Cynthia.
Watching Olivia and Billie sit at the same table together makes me so happy, I SWEAR the internet would literally break if they made a song together. My life would change!!
This is how you interview and cover musical artists. This is an expansive, supportive, inclusive, and insightful conversation that should be seen by any fan of these artists, or music, in general. Kudos.
Stop when Cynthia was talking about the artists making things that people can hang onto when they don’t have anything else touched me. Wether it’s songs, film, or writing it’s so amazing as a listener to connect on a personal level with a song and how an artist is feeling
My daughter is 7 she looks like billie eilish quite a bit actually, and when she was 6 she made a song with a synthesiser called ‘spinning around (in circles)’ and it was a great hit with my family it was in our heads all year! Haha
this round table is definitely one for the books, they managed to get together in a room 3 of the biggest pop stars of the 2020s decade so far Dua, Billie and Olivia. I wish there was a round table in the 2010s where we could se Ariana, Taylor, Lady Gaga etc or the 2000s with Britney, Beyoncé, Xtina etc So this definitely feels like a time capsule
and it’s the fact i haven’t heard about it until now. they don’t speak of those things on stan twitter, strangely enough 😵💫😵💫 or maybe i just missed it
Beyoncé is NOT a songwriter so she doesn’t deserve to be at the “SONGWRITING table” at all. Her writers and all the people she lied on for YEARS should come instead of her.
Cynthia’s commentary for the other artists was both insightful and affirming. She seems like such a cool person. Already loved her work but this interview gave me a whole new appreciation for her ❤️
Cynthia’s knowing of herself and sharing the power of it at the table was so moving. There is power in sitting in your accomplishments and being proud of your talent.❤
I’m happy to see these THR roundtables!!! Cool to see Jon Batiste continuing to flourish! Cynthia, Dua Lipa, Olivia, and Julia are absolutely divine! But I save my biggest congratulations to Billie Eilish. She is one of those singer-songwriters who as soon as you hear her voice you know that she has something special and specific that she wants to express. Any time she’s on tv performing, I stop what I’m doing and listen to her song. She is a major talent. Congratulations to all of them! I’m loving the laidback nature of these talks. All pretentiousness of a typical talk show are not here. It’s always great to see.
absolutely. it’s interesting; i think they all show a deep admiration for billie’s art in some way. at this table, cynthia’s mind / presence kept me the most captivated / intrigued & she seemed genuinely touched by billie’s art. there’s just something in billie’s art that feels so raw & at the core of her humanity that really moves you. jon batiste was also making this point in that it’s something where anybody feels they’re able to connect to
Cynthia is enthralling. So beautiful and so well spoken. I’m glad the others acknowledged it out loud so she knows! Round tables are my absolute favourites!
Julia is such an amazingly talented and gifted songwriter and singer, I wish she didn't struggle so much with anxiety. The part at 51:00 really made me tear up because I could feel from the screen how panicked she was getting and it's heartbreaking to see that in real-time.
How is this comment not higher in the thread. I felt awful she kept ASKING them to stop listing people she’s wrote for and he just ignored her and went ON and ON - as she’s visibly shaking and saying she’s uncomfortable.
@@kellikroehling7009 yea I wasn’t a fan of that or trying to force her into her “power” cause other people look up to her. That was incredibly condescending and stressful
@@rydbthatsme not condescending, Cynthia is emotionally intelligent, it's just very British to not like being complimented - you're meant to be humble and not brag, so in the moment she thought it was that - but it's more Julia's an introvert and doesn't like a lot of attention.
I feel the situation was handled well in a group setting of filming. Each person in that round table showed emotional empathy toward her. There was safety in the group. I felt Cynthia was trying to share her grounded energy with Julia. While others did the best they could to offer physical comfort and words of affirmation. From my life experience, having anxiety in a group where everything is safe has been some of the best moments of learning - rather relearning comfort, ease, and being a human interacting.
And I think about Cynthia’s comment (consistently chasing Billie) ALL THE TIME! Like…when is the collab?! 👀👀 Also, when he asked what their dream collab was I saw Cynthia look in Billie’s direction soooo… Lastly, how can someone not be mesmerized by her! She’s a goddess walking amongst mortals! Lol I literally worship her! 🥰
This whole interview just brought so much bliss in me. There were lots of relatable moments that I never have talked about with anyone in my life just cause we never had conversations like these. This is soo fun to watch.
There is some beautiful shimmery souls in that room. I love how this round table thing is honoring artists for their art, and showing that it is fascinating and interesting to talk about what you do, and not to ham it up, or just answer questions about your private life and useless anecdotes about silly things that happened to you, but actually talking process. It is not boring and people love to hear this.
Cynthia looks like an african goddess. Wow as a songwriter I truly appreciate this roundtable, hearing some stories of some these people's talent I admire so much. Please have more musician roundtables !
I love that Julia was included in this. For many years I've seen her credited in all those artists' songs and I was like damn she's so talented and deserves so much more credit. Love her and all the incredible humans in this table, it was such an inspiring interview
i am just finishing watching the entire thing in one go and it’s just really cool not only all of these diverse backgrounds coming together but it’s obvious that they start connecting more and more as they get to the end after unpacking all of their history and more vulnerable perspectives… it’s crazy aha. like by the end i feel like they could all just get lunch together again and it would be super chill. i think it just goes to show everyone can find ways to connect with each other if you give it some time.
This is my 4th time watching this video this week. There is something so pure and humble but insanely talented these people are that just leave me so happy!
Julia is so articulate and lovely , Cynthia amazing and full of empathy, Billie is a total genius , Dua is very warm and generous , Jon is incredibly versatile and Olivia is super sensitive and involved ...
Julia's humility and shyness for the spotlight is actually really inspiring for me. It shows me that creative genius doesn't always have to be loud and proud, it can be quiet and impactful all the same. I don't find her discomfort to be insecurity or self-degradement, she is just built the way she is :') I relate!
Cynthia Erivo is a treasure. Warmth emanates from her like no one I've ever seen before and that's how it feels just through the screen; I can't imagine how beautiful her energy must be in person. And I love all the moments between Cynthia and Billie in this.
THR Roundtables have come such a long way since the start. This conversation was so casual, so cozy, so chill, so connected. The moderator guided it perfectly. Beautifully done, THR. Looking forward to more of this.
I love when they talk about how they're like a vessel, plucking music from The Divine. That is exactly how it feels when I write music, and it's so epic knowing these great artists feel the same. There is such a bonding feeling that whether a great song writer winning Grammys, or just a person that likes to just write and play for family, we're all together, tapping into something other worldly, that we can never quite explain. 48:47
The actual host/moderator (NOT YVONNE ORJI although Yvonne might be great) - but rather the person wearing the hat…is THE GREATEST I’ve seen from the Hollywood Reporter. They seem natural at it and informed and that there is sincerity and passion and depth present in the conversation. Nicely done.
I clicked on the video to listen to Billie. I love her as an artist. But that whole conversation was so beautiful! I loved every word and emotion each artist told. It's so human. You forget alot about it because of their fame, but this!? It was just so real and loving. These people are smart. The way they express deep feelings is for sure not easy. This hour long talk went by like nothing.
Incredibly inspiring to listen to these amazing artists talk to each other. Love the mutual respect, support and curiousity. Cynthia and Billie supporting and praising Julia also brought me to tears. You own it girls
Billie Eilish with that blissful song of hers ‘What Was I Made For’ the portrayal she enlisted in that song is so real and empowering. The juxtaposition of floating and then falling down, and the mental health of not knowing how to feel & sadness is so human of her. I feel it’s the best song written of her discography. I’m so excited to see what she brings on in 2024.
Seeing all those insanely popular artists sitting on a table like that and being 100% human for an hour straight was a pleasure that made me tear up a couple times. Thanks THR for this amazing format
Wow.. this video was sitting in my watchlist for a long time and I put it on just to pass some time. But damn.. it consumed my attention wholly. This roundtable is amazing. These people are incredible. I didn't know all of them before, just like they didn't all knew each other but they managed to create such an open, vulnerable and authentic atmosphere, wrapped in a bubble of pure warmth, I teared up multiple times. I love seeing them all connect over art, the process of it, the inspiration and creation, their fears, motivation and effect it had on others and themselves. You can really tell that they love what they're doing and it's so inspiring to see this and how they find connection in it. And so many women connecting and supporting each other heals something in me. Cynthia seems just so full of warmth and honest empathy. The way she listens so attentively, you can see that she truly Cares. And Julia! I relate to her anxiousness a lot. It's so beautiful to see these people acknowledge her accomplishments even though she downplays them. What Cynthia said to her at the end "Making peoples dreams come true" is such a eye opening perspective. And even though Julia was anxious I'm proud of her for making it so well through this video. The round table wouldn't be complete without her
What I love about this, is how respect towards each other’s stories, successes and lessons are complimented with shared values, mutual respect and relatable creativity. As a creative myself, listening to them makes me feel included despite not being as successful in their scale as they are. The feeling of relating to their processes makes it so inclusive and accepting. Definitely the best interview I’ve watched this new year and I’m grateful for them. Thank you, Cynthia, Olivia, Dua, Jon, Billie, Julia, and to the interviewer, staff and crew of Hollywood Reporter. 💜
I loved this so much to the point where i just didn't want it to end. I love those super open conversations about their personal experiences as an artist. I wish this was a regular thing. I'm dying for more content!
I love Billie's answers! They are so honest and make her so likeable to me. I love the little details, like her association between "Sail" and The Walking Dead, so wholesome
I love love LOVE that Mesfin Fekadu and Jon Baptiste gave Cynthia her flowers and that wonderful moment near the end to shine a light on her because yes, there are all these commercially successful artists, but Cynthia's accomplishments are nothing to scoff at. Not to downplay anyone else, but Cynthia, while not having platinum records and millions of followers, is still an extremely accomplished and talented Broadway performer and actress. She is one to look out for.
I didn’t like how when Julia Micheal’s was having a panic attack and asked the guy to stop naming people he kept going. She shouldn’t have to be forced into owning anything. Clearly she’s an extreme introvert. Respect her wishes. As an introvert myself that pissed me off
this is one of the best thr roundtables to ever happened. the conversation, naturally occurred, was so meaningful and flew so eloquently. loved jon's story and cynthia's encouragement.
51:38 I felt her anxiety spike up so much that I started crying and shaking more for her-like in that moment, I understood exactly what she felt with happiness and shock and embarrassment and like everything all together and not being able to properly word her thoughts as to why she felt that way
Yes! I don’t know how she kept it together because I would have been CRYING, the more I try to be strong the more I fall apart and I knew if I was in her shoes at the moment I would fall apart.
DUA has such a WARM aura, she is like the older sister vibe in the circle of friends, BILLIE is like the rebel friend but will show up when things get rough and JULIA is the sensitive introverted yet sweetest friend, OLIVIA is the friend who is friends with everyone, like the baby sister that everyone adores, CYNTHIA gives the mother energy and JON is like the only brother only guy in a circle of friends of girls who supports everyone. And the host is like the bar tender that knows this circle of friends who comes often to his bar 😊❤
Love that billie noticed that julia was shaking at some point en made sure she felt comfortable. They we're a perfect match sitting next to eachother :)
this is so wholesome to watch, it is pure connection. They listen to each other, see each other, it's a beautiful thing to watch human connection through art like this
I saw the Hunger Games film and the lyrics in the music sung in it and that played in the credits was truly the kind to give goose bumps. It really embodied the subject matter, the feeling of liberation/freedom sought in the franchise by all the people made to fight. I thought it was really beautiful and well written! 👏🏾
The author (Suzanne Collins) actually wrote the lyrics to the songs sung during the movie, but Olivia’s credits song was beautiful and lived up to the quality of the movie’s songs for sure
Wow. Just wow, this inspired me so much. I don't even know how to start explaining the amount of connection I had with these artists. I really want to be an artist one day and I have tried and tried to write songs and the lyrics that I write, just don't hit the way I want it to. Julia Michaels is SO underrated. I know she's had a couple big hits but she deserves to have just as much fame as Billie, Olivia or Dua.
She’s actually responsible for some of the biggest hits out there…people just forget she’s a songwriter first, to your point :)
She doesn't want the fame and she's allowed to not want it.
Jon’s story about his wife is so touching. I love how he shouted out her listening to Billie and Olivia’s music
I was crying so hard while he was telling his story about his wife and how creativity helped her and of course them both with the healing process like dude it was beautiful.
This is one of my favorite round tables. The way they all engage with each other. All of them are amazing
They were really the young break out stars of the early 2020’s
Absolutely 🔥
Truuuuuuue
This is how you interview and cover musical artists. This is an expansive, supportive, inclusive, and insightful conversation that should be seen by any fan of these artists, or music, in general. Kudos.
Stop when Cynthia was talking about the artists making things that people can hang onto when they don’t have anything else touched me. Wether it’s songs, film, or writing it’s so amazing as a listener to connect on a personal level with a song and how an artist is feeling
Literally had a tear in my eye😢
My daughter is 7 she looks like billie eilish quite a bit actually, and when she was 6 she made a song with a synthesiser called ‘spinning around (in circles)’ and it was a great hit with my family it was in our heads all year! Haha
Maybe one day she will be sitting at that table. Great story!
there is something so profound and beautiful about all of these creative souls coming together to talk about what they love...
this round table is definitely one for the books, they managed to get together in a room 3 of the biggest pop stars of the 2020s decade so far Dua, Billie and Olivia.
I wish there was a round table in the 2010s where we could se Ariana, Taylor, Lady Gaga etc or the 2000s with Britney, Beyoncé, Xtina etc
So this definitely feels like a time capsule
and it’s the fact i haven’t heard about it until now. they don’t speak of those things on stan twitter, strangely enough 😵💫😵💫 or maybe i just missed it
@@whoevryeah, I haven’t heard/ seen many people talking about this either
Beyoncé is NOT a songwriter so she doesn’t deserve to be at the “SONGWRITING table” at all. Her writers and all the people she lied on for YEARS should come instead of her.
I really think Ariana should be here at this table
Cynthia’s commentary for the other artists was both insightful and affirming. She seems like such a cool person. Already loved her work but this interview gave me a whole new appreciation for her ❤️
there's something so humble about billie and julia, they're so inspiring and are so connected to what they do. everything about them is genuine.
Spot on!
Cynthia’s knowing of herself and sharing the power of it at the table was so moving. There is power in sitting in your accomplishments and being proud of your talent.❤
Cynthia and Billie doing a song together may be what gets me through 2025
Literally same
i’m so proud of liv! she’s only 3 years into her career and she’s already here…
Fr. Too little comments about her.
so true... i'm so proud of you olivia
Srsly❤❤
YESSS, SHE IS ART
What you said is how I feel about Cynthia I’m a big Billie fan too though.
absolutely. it’s interesting; i think they all show a deep admiration for billie’s art in some way. at this table, cynthia’s mind / presence kept me the most captivated / intrigued & she seemed genuinely touched by billie’s art. there’s just something in billie’s art that feels so raw & at the core of her humanity that really moves you. jon batiste was also making this point in that it’s something where anybody feels they’re able to connect to

Cynthia is enthralling. So beautiful and so well spoken. I’m glad the others acknowledged it out loud so she knows! Round tables are my absolute favourites!
Billie is such a rambler it’s so sweet. I LOVE people who can just talk and flip between topics
@@rydbthatsme not condescending, Cynthia is emotionally intelligent, it's just very British to not like being complimented - you're meant to be humble and not brag, so in the moment she thought it was that - but it's more Julia's an introvert and doesn't like a lot of attention.
it came across pushy and I didn't like it and people agree@@MightyMouse350
I feel the situation was handled well in a group setting of filming. Each person in that round table showed emotional empathy toward her. There was safety in the group. I felt Cynthia was trying to share her grounded energy with Julia. While others did the best they could to offer physical comfort and words of affirmation. From my life experience, having anxiety in a group where everything is safe has been some of the best moments of learning - rather relearning comfort, ease, and being a human interacting.
I love how Billie expresses herself, every detail she gives when speaking is so real, I really love her and she is a great inspiration.
Billie was SO mesmerized by Cynthia, honestly same girl, I get it
And I think about Cynthia’s comment (consistently chasing Billie) ALL THE TIME! Like…when is the collab?! 👀👀
Also, when he asked what their dream collab was I saw Cynthia look in Billie’s direction soooo…
Lastly, how can someone not be mesmerized by her! She’s a goddess walking amongst mortals! Lol I literally worship her! 🥰
So real
This whole interview just brought so much bliss in me. There were lots of relatable moments that I never have talked about with anyone in my life just cause we never had conversations like these. This is soo fun to watch.
There is some beautiful shimmery souls in that room. I love how this round table thing is honoring artists for their art, and showing that it is fascinating and interesting to talk about what you do, and not to ham it up, or just answer questions about your private life and useless anecdotes about silly things that happened to you, but actually talking process. It is not boring and people love to hear this.
the way everyone mentions the strong influence of other people’s works on their creative process is fascinating
Cynthia looks like an african goddess. Wow as a songwriter I truly appreciate this roundtable, hearing some stories of some these people's talent I admire so much. Please have more musician roundtables !
I was going to say! She looks like royalty. Pure casual elegance and that outfit suits her perfectly.
I love Billie's energy and personality. She's just so cool without being trying. She's really complimenting Julia's introvert personality
Yess I loved that ❤
i love when they actually ask artists questions about their art, no filler no drama or gossip just art
Julia is so articulate and lovely , Cynthia amazing and full of empathy, Billie is a total genius , Dua is very warm and generous , Jon is incredibly versatile and Olivia is super sensitive and involved ...
love this summary
Julia's humility and shyness for the spotlight is actually really inspiring for me. It shows me that creative genius doesn't always have to be loud and proud, it can be quiet and impactful all the same. I don't find her discomfort to be insecurity or self-degradement, she is just built the way she is :') I relate!
Dua is such a lovely person. She seems so down to earth and sweet.
I agree! That is why I love her not just because she is popular or her music is 😊
I love the ending so much. I’m so glad that Cynthia spoke up about Julia. It is important that she understands how amazing and talented she is 🥺
Cynthia Erivo is a treasure. Warmth emanates from her like no one I've ever seen before and that's how it feels just through the screen; I can't imagine how beautiful her energy must be in person. And I love all the moments between Cynthia and Billie in this.

I could listen to her talk for hours… I’d love to see her singing live
THR Roundtables have come such a long way since the start. This conversation was so casual, so cozy, so chill, so connected. The moderator guided it perfectly. Beautifully done, THR. Looking forward to more of this.
I love how Cynthia speaks and the visual of her hand movements are so hypnotizing. Like Billie said she’s so poetic both visually and with her words:)
That's the thing. Despite how much fame and success someone has or lack thereof, it's important to look past all that and see them as human beings.
Incredibly inspiring to listen to these amazing artists talk to each other. Love the mutual respect, support and curiousity. Cynthia and Billie supporting and praising Julia also brought me to tears. You own it girls
What Cynthia said near 27:50 is so beautiful and made me tear up
I love how Billie has such a fav kid vibe here, she’s so loved and respected and that just raises my admiration for her A LOOOTTT
This was a group of people i never knew i needed to see together. honestly, watching musicians connect is wonderful :)
the way Billie talks and had everyone super into what she’s saying, LOVE HER!
Me too
I love Billie's answers! They are so honest and make her so likeable to me. I love the little details, like her association between "Sail" and The Walking Dead, so wholesome
aww she is so cute
As an introvert myself that pissed me off
they are all so well-spoken! i have such a new admiration for julia micheals, her stories are so profound
Julia Michaels' first songwriting job being on Austin & Ally is WILD but also kinda makes sense to me, that's so interesting
this is one of the best thr roundtables to ever happened. the conversation, naturally occurred, was so meaningful and flew so eloquently. loved jon's story and cynthia's encouragement.
51:38 I felt her anxiety spike up so much that I started crying and shaking more for her-like in that moment, I understood exactly what she felt with happiness and shock and embarrassment and like everything all together and not being able to properly word her thoughts as to why she felt that way
Yes! I don’t know how she kept it together because I would have been CRYING, the more I try to be strong the more I fall apart and I knew if I was in her shoes at the moment I would fall apart.
yeah i definitely would have thrown up haha
Why
DUA has such a WARM aura, she is like the older sister vibe in the circle of friends, BILLIE is like the rebel friend but will show up when things get rough and JULIA is the sensitive introverted yet sweetest friend, OLIVIA is the friend who is friends with everyone, like the baby sister that everyone adores, CYNTHIA gives the mother energy and JON is like the only brother only guy in a circle of friends of girls who supports everyone. And the host is like the bar tender that knows this circle of friends who comes often to his bar 😊❤
Amazingly done! Perfect selection of writers, vibe, and discussion topics. Need to see more of these ASAP with the same interviewer
