I’ve used this sealer for about a year on my concrete vessels and I find that pouring it into the vessel and then immediately pouring it back out works best for me since I don’t seal the outside of my vessels. Saves a ton of time for me! I’ve been super happy with this product.
Thank you for sharing your expertise. One of these days, I will finally dare to pour some concrete vessels. I've learned so much from you. Thank you again.
Thank you for all of your informative videos! I haven’t made a concrete vessel yet, but I think the information you provide will end up saving me a lot of time and money. Everything you make is so beautiful and inspiring and I really do appreciate all that you share!!
Thank you for sharing!! I used this sealer yesterday (just for the inside) and wasn’t too pleased with the water marks it left but I think I just used too much and didn’t dry it quickly enough. I’ll try your method today. Thank you again for taking the time to make these videos. As a new person to this craft, it’s VERY helpful!
i use the earth safe finishes sealer right now which i love but i only seal the inside of my vessels, but i'm going to try this one to start sealing my outsides to see if it helps with scratches and getting dirty easily! i'm doing craft shows this summer for the first time and am worried that all the handling we'll be doing will get them dirty and scruffed up
Great video! I’m just trying all this concrete stuff out and looks fun! The staining is something to be expected with concrete. And I don’t think u need to put a disclaimer on ur candles because of that. Ty again!!
Thanks for this video! Truly appreciate the sharing and helping others like me who is just starting. ❤ Best regards and good luck to all your endeavours. Kate
Thank you for this wonderful update. Very informative. Do you think the jars can be rinsed off after a soy or coconut wax candle is used up, so that the jar can be reused to put things in it (canvas brushes, pens, …)? Would I need to reseal it?
I like to use alcohol to remove and residual wax from the jars. If you want to reseal you can, but I don't find it absolutely necessary if they are just going to be used as a storage jar, etc.
Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. I have a really important question though, I can 't seem to fin ANY NATURAL SEALER in Europe. I live in Brussels, Belgium, and after days and days of research, I tought about asking you. Would youhave an idea? Thank you in advance for your time. Best regards, JB
Thanks for watching! Earth Safe Finishes ships worldwide...I would highly recommend checking them out. earthsafefinishes.com?sca_ref=3941704.Q2zd7GzGk2
Thank you for sharing! I’ve been using the Earth safe sealant and I like it but this sealant seems like it would be easier to get and use. I will give it a dry. 😃
Same! Someone else did comment they experienced seepage with this sealer after time so I’m going to let these candles sit for a bit and see what happens.
Thanks for the comprehensive review! What kind of wax are you using? I use coco apricot and had terrible seepage (and staining) with the eco advance. I might try another test with 4 dips (as opposed to 2) but for now I'm sticking with esf (I've also never had any staining with esf so I'm guessing the difference is the wax?).
That's so interesting! Did you experience seepage with or without burning? I have a sight curiosity about seepage down the road after the candle has been sitting on the shelf for a while. I use a blend of coco83/sp487.
LOL! I was planning on waiting a bit before I made the switch just to make sure there was no seepage as time went on, and this confirms my decision! Thank you for sharing. Time will tell I guess.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the product. After you unmold your vessels how long do you let them cure before using the Eco sealer? I have heard some people wait two weeks or one week? Thank you
Thanks for watching! These jars happened to be sitting for probably 3-4 weeks, but that is longer than I normally wait. I like to wait around 5-7 days before sealing. It really depends on the weather conditions where you are. The jars will cure faster in drier climates, and take longer in more humid climates. A good way to find out if they are ready to seal is to weigh one each day. When the weight starts to stay consistent, you know they are fully dried and ready to seal.
Thanks for watching! Yes to the heat resistant, but I am not so sure on the leak proof part now. I had posted an update in the description. I've had multiple people reach out saying they have experienced seepage with this sealer. I will be posting a video tomorrow on a new sealer with a similar application process, but it should seal better in my opinion.
Hello! Unfortunately, I’ve heard this quite a bit. I did post an update in the description that I’ve held off on switching to this sealer for that reason.
Hi Bree! When you pour the coconut wax into the concrete vessel, do you ever get tiny bubbles that form on the inside of the jar? Is that normal? It just happened to me and I haven't experienced that when pouring in glass or tin vessels.
It’s pretty normal! I believe it to be a temperature thing. The concrete vessels get so cold, and it seems to be just something that happens when pouring hot wax into them. I honestly never experience any adverse effects from it. Once the candle hardens, it’s no longer an issue.
Now that some time has passed do you think you will stick with this sealer? I'm just going to start with concrete and like the efficiency of this process vs. the brushing. Thank you so much for your videos!! I love them!
Hi Heather! I really like the efficiency of this sealer, too. I’ve been hesitant to make the switch because I’ve had quite a few people say they experienced seepage over time. Even a month or several weeks after pouring their candles. 😬 I guess I need to do some more testing with it, but for now I’m still using earth safe because I have 100% confidence in it.
Hi Bree! I was able to get in touch with Nancy but it will be $$ for shipping to Canada. I went ahead and ordered but this might not be cost effective for me in the long run...Is there any other sealer that works with hydrostone? I am scouring the internet looking for answers. Some say Rutlands?
Totally understand! Some do say Rutlands. I personally experienced seepage with it, but a lot of people seem to like it. Give a try and see if it works for you!
I would reach out to the company directly and ask just for reassurance. However, I ultimately did not go with this sealer. I have an update posted in the description.
Thank you! No I do not use this. I strictly use earth safe. I did only ever test the one candle with this sealer, but I had several people message me after my first video reviewing the eco sealer stating they experienced seepage. Some said even a month after pouring the candle seepage occurred. So I steered clear for that reason. I love earth safe. I love the company and what they stand for. I’ve never had seepage using their products. I also love that they’re absolutely safe and non-toxic.
I am applying to a ResinCrete vessel today. I applied to the inside only with a sponge brush. I don’t see any brush strokes or water spots. I will apply 3 coats and wait 24 hours to cure before I pour wax. I will see how it goes.
Hi! Do you cover or seal the Eco Sealer in the bowl in between each coat? Does/Will the liquid harden if left in bowl while waiting for the next coat? Thanks, in advance! 😊
I didn't cover it, and didn't experience any change in the product in between coats. Since it's such a short amount of time between coats, I wouldn't think it would be an issue. Thanks for watching! :)
I love your wick holders. I stole your idea and 3D printed my own. Hope you don't mind. I also 3D print containers for the silicon moulds so they always keep the same shape. I use H-Seal concrete kitchen countertop sealer. It's food safe and heat resistant up to 200C. A bit expensive mind but I live in the UK and can't get the products you use.
Hi there! I have an update written in the description box. I personally didn’t in the two I poured, but lots of others reached out and claimed they did. I held off on switching to this sealer for that reason. I prefer the quick dip from earth safe finishes.
Omg thank you so much for adopting Lola!!! I adopted a 7 year old husky too. He made us soo happy when we had him. Thank you for showing us your process, this will help a lot. I didn’t want to spend so much for my own candles and some for friends and family and since I’m not in the US importing and conversion rates are insane. These look amazing. Are you able to make a video with no sealer to see the results? I’ve tested with no sealer a few times and got no seepage. I’m wondering if you’ll also get the same results. My only issue with not using the ESF is the ESF makes removing the stickums easier
When I first started making concrete candles, I tried making some in unsealed jars and did experience seepage. I honestly feel like it really depends on the thickness of the jar.
I seal everything. Just to help protect the pieces. I am actually just starting to revisit soap holders again. I stopped making those because I was trying to find the right sealer for those. I might have found one. Waiting for the soap dishes to cure so I can test the sealer.
I wouldn’t recommend this sealer. I posted an update in the description. Since hydrostone is more porous than cement-all, I think the seepage would be even worse with hydrostone.
Ok just asked a question on the other video about the Earth Safe sealer~ Mine are ALL seeping after waiting 3 weeks to seal and triple dipping~ SO I'm thinking Earth Safe it is~! Hello! I haven't fully made the change over to this one. I was just curious and testing it out. The one I currently use is a bit time consuming, and this one is definitely more efficient.
Ok so I am VERY new to candle making and I made my own concrete vessels. I used this sealer and put 2 coats on my vessel and waited 24 hours before filling with wax. I noticed a wet looking ring around the top just above the wax line. It looked like the concrete may have absorbed some of the FO or something. Someone suggested that I use 3-4 coats of this sealer so I tried that too! Again let it cure for 24 hours before adding wax. I STILL have that wet ring around the top of the wax! Do you think it is the concrete absorbing the FO? Or a stain? I use Freedom Soy Wax and 9% FO. The wet appearing line is visible without me ever burning the candle
Hi Brittany! I would believe that to be a stain .It's more noticeable with this type of sealer since it's a penetrating sealer. I experience staining no matter what sealer I use. Just comes with the concrete jar territory.
