    To slow concrete/cement down from drying too quickly you can run a very wet sponge over the bottoms (when they are still in the molds) a few times to keep them wet longer. Cement is actually better if it stays wet longer.

    I’m just starting out with my vessel making journey. My first three were fine for what they were but after trying the 3:1 method in an attempt to increase fluidity but wound up with cracks in the bottom of the vessels. Yesterday I purchased the flow additive and this morning I rewatched this video. Can you describe what you mean about adding too much affecting the appearance of the jar? Sprinkling isn’t my friend so I have a set of measuring spoons, tad, pinch etc, so I can replicate my measurements from batch to batch.
    I do have one observation, as a mixed medium maker. I find it easier to measure small quantities of pigment using a jeweler’s scale and mini Dixie cups. Linda

    • @calafiacandleco
      @calafiacandleco  Рік тому +1

      Personally, when adding too much of the flow control I found some streaky looking marks on the vessels. May not be the case for everyone, but that was my experience! If you add too much water, you could definitely experience cracks.

  • @JeffLifeInReview
    @JeffLifeInReview Рік тому +1

    In your video you mention that you prior concrete was setting up too quickly in the winter. This is likely because concrete manufactures put additives in the mix for different times of the year to help the customers fight the changing elements. So in winter they include additives to help it hydrate quick even in really low temps. But as always you may want to confirm with each manufacture what they do.

All my jars keep coming out with demarcation lines, like some weird discoloration. This is happening both in jars with color and without. Would you know what causes this? I can't figure it out. It's such a bummer to have several jars come out like this.

      Hello! Thanks for watching! I'm wondering if it could be from your water? Are you using tap water? When I first started out, I was using tap water. What temp are you pouring? I like to pour between 150-160 with my concrete jars despite whatever the wax manufacturer's instructions are. I use coconut wax, which requires hot temps for melting and pouring but I do pour cooler with the concrete. Cracking could also mean you need to reassess your formula and timelines with the process.

    Question, & correct me if I’m wrong but so isn’t the normal cure time 28-30 days (or is it only a couple days since these are hollow) for concrete? & so if u sell these, when do you list them?
    Sorry if my question doesn’t make sense, I’m new to all this lol

    • @calafiacandleco
      @calafiacandleco  Рік тому +2

      Yes, 28 days is the approximate cure time for full strength. I, and many others, personally find they are ready to go after the weight starts to level off (about 7 days for me). If someone wishes to wait the full 28 days, they absolutely could. However, I don't find it it necessary.
      Do you mean when do I add the product as inventory to my website? I wait until the candle is poured and has had about 5 days to cure. Then by the time the candle arrives to the customer, it will have cured about a week (which is what I find works for my wax combo). So all in all, it's about a 13 day process from start to finish.
