I live in the desert in Tucson, Arizona and, yes, there really are blue cacti and many other colors that have gorgeous colors of flower blossoms on them in the spring so folks feel free to pick any colors of fabrics that you like.
Wow! I just looked at the pdf for this. How kind, generous, and thoughtful of you to share the template shapes for those who don’t have all the templates or can’t afford to buy them! How nice that they will still be able to make this. It goes to show that MSQC is not just about making a dollar. Some other sites would do a hard sell to buy all the templates, as well as the other ingredients. But not everyone can afford to spend hundreds of dollars on each quilt they make. After all, it’s supposed to be fun, not stressful. And the pioneer women did it without all the bells and whistles we have today. Mind you, I like the bells and whistles, lol! But sometimes we need to use creative thinking to make do. Anyway, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I’m going to make a wall hanging. I already made her your bookcase quilt. She is a retired librarian! Thank you, thank you!
I'm making mine a bit smaller 5 rows across and 6 rows long. Only one more row to go. I absolutely love this quilt. thank you so much for putting the templates in the PDF file. I printed it out 4 times, but them together and glued to some card stock. I was then able to scan in all but the two largest templates, the large peel and the large tumbler. I then traced all the smaller templates into Corel draw and was able to convert them all to Scan N Cut files. I was then able to cut all but a few of my cacti on the Scan N Cut. Thank you for being so generous and given us the templates in the PDF file. My daughter, who lives in Tucson, AZ will love this for her birthday. I'm a new quilter so I'm thrilled to have been able to create this quilt. Thank you!

I had such a fun time making my own version of the Cactus Carnival Quilt. It was my first try at appliqué. I would recommend this as an introduction to appliqué. I also had a great time using the fancy stitches on my machine to give the cacti texture!!
I am going to do this with my 8 grandchildren. I have them all for a week at end of this month. 4 boys and 4 girls. They love to sew, craft, and create. I’m gathering my supplies now. I am also forwarding this to my oldest daughter who is 4-H extension agent for UF. She is teaching a sewing class in 2 weeks. She is looking for ideas.
Wow! I love this quilt, well my daughter will love this quilt and actually I kinda feel my creative mojo peaked at this moment. Oh Jenny & Natalie... this just looks like so much FUN! I normally shy away from raw-edge applique (because the edges will fray after each wash), but in this case, it will add to the texture of the edges of a cactus plant. LOVE IT!! I also like very much the alternating of the white and light grey solids for the backgrounds... just gives it a little more visual interest. Jagged-edges for the leaves is clever too. @@hendebesley4409 Trim and leave about 1/4 inch of fusible near the edge, so it's like a donut shape, vs having all of the fusible throughout the shape. Gives a softer quilt this way! Learned this from Pat Sloan at patsloan.com
