I learned doing this onto a 9x9 inch piece of muslin, standing at a treadle sewing machine, because if I sat I could not reach the pedal. Ethel, the woman who helped raise me after my father died & owned the machine, called it a crazy quilt. I did a quilt like that which I was proud to sleep under. Later I had the mumps & was home from school 6 weeks and I sat & hand sewed the piecing for a wedding ring quilt. Ethel finished it & gave it to me on my wedding day. The only quilt we had when we started our.
It is 10:30 pm and I don’t want to go bed. Because I want to make all these quilts. I like all three ideas. Boy, do I have crumbs. I spent the last few days organizing them into colors. So I am ready to go. I didn’t know what I was going to do all these scraps. Now I do. I had seen others make Crumb but they never appealed to me. Thanks so much from such fun tutorial. Who needs sleep when there is a quilt to make.
Need a thank you gift for my daughter in law. Will make a crumb piece quilt from scraps i used in the 3 baby quilts i made for my 3 grandsons. Thank you for the tips !
I want to share my crumb piece adventure, I made strips from my 3 huge industrial garbage bag of strips I have been hoarding 😊 and I cut my strips into large triangles, then in my excitement I realized I was wasting my fabric From the triangle edges I then started using the fabric from the triangle WOW I got such joy from that project.
Question to be answered on a tutorial (hopefully). Does someone read all the comments, or are we only entertaining each other? I love the triple plays!!! Spending my Saturday night reviewing them all. Concluding that no one teaches a classic block better than Jenny. However, I am in awe of Natalie's and Misty's contemporary eye. Every quilt they have taught on this series is on my to-do list. I cannot get enough of their modern quilts...MORE PLEASE
I've cut scraps into 1" strips and made miniature log cabin, 9 patch and rail fence blocks. I love crumb blocks... they are my no brainer - stay busy - waste not sewing.
Love this and all the crumb quilts!!!! I think i may crumb the 10" squares and then applique a solid orange peel onto it to switch it up 💕. Thanks as always
I love them all. I have made crumb quilts for babies and just love their fascination with the colors and patterns. I really love Misty's quick way to make strips into random patterns. Natalie, I love that whole thing, colors and design! You are all so clever. Huggles Always 💖✂️🪡🧵 🤟🌹🤗 🍀 🙏 🦓
Started rummaging through scraps when I was a young kid. I'm now a grandma! Loved scraps then & now. I made crumb quilts back in the 60s! Had to learn to make individual blocks cause one big block wouldn't lay flat. Mom showed me a down & dirty way to fix it...just cut it & keep stitching. It worked! Thank you ladies for showing us your take on crumb quilting. Natalie, love the green. Misty, yours is colorful. Jenny, your crumb is my favorite!
This is what I needed! I have been working on a complex quilt. I NEEDED a fun easy divergence. No rules and no quilt police. Thanks again for a great quilt idea.
I love how the same technique and even the same fabric can have a completely different look. It is fun to watch your different approaches to the same ideas. It gives me the confidence to be more experimental in my own quilts.
I love all your individual tutorials. My favorite, however, is Triple Play. How each of you come up with a new way of doing things. Unfortunately, my quilting sidekicks have
I'm totaly addicted to crumb piecing, I have over 200 10 inch squares. going to make a shadow quilt with 5 by 10 rectangles for my king size bed, my hubby is completely in awe of the blocks, thanks so much for all the inspiration
I love the trip down memory lane aspect of doing crumb and crazy quilts! I just started a Terry Rowland Colorwash quilt and it is so fun. If you don’t know who she is she has a UA-cam channel as well. She’s delightful.
I’ve just finished a quilt and I think I have enough to make Mistys as a baby quilt. I have just entered the crumb quilting phase of my journey so had been making squares like Jenny’s. Great to see other options. Natalie you have such a creative mind when it comes to design. My favourite trio. Thankyou ladies
It makes my heart happy to see that lovely fabric wasn't wasted. Have yet to make one, but I'm gaining a lot of information about them in the mean time. Thanks for all of the educational videos you produce for all of us.
This is perfect for my 10 year old! My boys love to quilt with me but my 10 year old loves to pull the tiny scraps out of the trash and sew stuff together. I’ll show him your quilt Jenny!
Exactly my idea, it is a perfect quilt technique for kids because you don’t have to be perfectly accurate, it’s just fun ! I will put my 9 year old on the task and I’m sure she’ll love it !
There was a lovely crumb quilt shown on the Block party last week made by a man with a really cool 3d effect your boys might like. the blocks were set with black shadows on a white background, if i remember correctly. this is the link ua-cam.com/video/GJ_1kBStJho/v-deo.html start at 22.57
Hi y’all I am a new sewer in quilting .I love watching Jenny and her friends.and you know what I don’t throw any garbage coming out from fabric, but I make pillows with them.so good to see you and goodbye.
I’ve been interested in the modern movement of quilts so love, love, love Natalie’s. I’m also a long arm quilter and so excited to see Natalie chose a modern quilt design to finish it off. It really complimented the quilt instead of competed.
I always look forward to MSQC’s tutorials, but I particularly enjoy the Triple Play. I so enjoy seeing everyone’s personal creative approach to the “assignment.” 😄
It is beautiful, I did mine as a souvenir of all the different projects that I made pandemic time. Like Mitsy I sew all my pieces together big or small and placed the ruler in random position to create the block.
I love making crumb quilts. I've been quilting since 1992 so you can imagine how many scraps I have, so I started using my scraps after watching Darlene Michaud on UA-cam. I now have 5 lap quilts! Great way to use up scraps and to always be sewing! I don't think I'll ever be done. I will be moving up to 10" instead of the 8" I've been making.
Oh My Goodness Jenny, Natalie and Misty, All three of these quilts are Fantastic! Now I want to make all three, man I have quite a list of sewing this year. Thank You Three for Sharing Your Beautiful Quilts, ❤️❤️❤️Chris
No No No! Thats not trash. lol That goes into the stuffing for a dog or cat bed for the animal shelter. If you don't have enough crumbs for a quilt, a few squares make great hot pot pads etc. Crumb quilting is fun and keeps fabric out of the landfill. I know you are in the fabric selling business, but my Mom used to make these crumb quilts reversible. Crumbs on both sides.
Lots of fun watching all the mass confusion. Loved Misty’s quilt. It looked like 30s fabrics as it was hanging even though I know it wasn’t. Those are the fabrics that really speak to me. Just so adorable!
Love this! My little granddaughter loves to play with my fabric. She is 3 and just goes crazy in my fabric. We bought her her own sewing machine and this is a great project for her little fingers…..
I am working on a crumb quilt but mine are little teeny tiny pieces. I loved watching this tutorial where I can increase the size of my crumbs and it won’t take me forever to come up with a block. Thank you so much for this great tutorial!
WOW, Then Wow and then another Wow!!! Jenny’s did it for me. ❤️❤️❤️. Can’t say I was a fan of crumb quilting although I don’t throw any fabric away it I can make my own precuts of 1.5” squares. I absolutely love Jenny’s version of a crumb quilt. Thanks to all three for sharing your quilts and creativity with us.
I really love seeing three different takes on the same theme. It’s so fun seeing how each of you ends up with a very different quilt. You are all so creative and inspiring! ❤️
I love this epusode of Triple Play. Jenny is really keeping the girls busy. Im Inspired to make some small crumb quilts for our humane society. They like 18x18" quilts for the kennels. . Thank you Doan family.
I watched this tutorial and started making crumb blocks. Haven't been quilting long enough for a super collection of crumbs, but getting a stack of blocks. :) now I want to make all three. I picked up a couple extra pieces of fabric from the thrift store.
I didn;t think I would ever like crumb quilting, but you guys made them looks beautiful and so full of inspiration, Thank you so much for this triple play! I LOVED IT!!!
Love all of your quilts! I’m going to make 20” squares too! Natalie your dark gray showed more like a dark eggplant purple in my screen and it looked great. All the colors look amazing! Thanks for another great show!❤️
What a fun way to introduce kiddos to sewing, cutting and ironing! Also thought of people who used to sew that are now much older, but can still piece without being concerned about following a pattern-perfect for nursing homes!
I'm always excited to see the Triple Play each week. You all are so creative! I have been saving scraps for years but I discovered crumb piecing while recovering from covid last year. It is so relaxing to me. No rules, no stress, and no wasting! And I always learn something from MSQC! Thank you for all you do!
I love crumb quilting and the three quilts you've done are just adorable ♥️ Triple Play is definitely one of my favorite shows currently 🤩 Regards from Germany Stephanie
I have found that if you want to make the blocks cohesive, you can add either turquoise or red. These colors would also look fabulous as sashing. I used to belong to a quilt group where we did a lot of block exchanges and those colors tied all the blocks together. I love love love the concept of no waste! Thanks guys!
I made the mistake of trying this-so addicting! My little scrap bin and bargello quilt gone wrong was enough to make an entire bed runner! Enough blocks to perhaps make pillows. It is mainly fabric from a quilt I started, so it will tie in nicely. Yeah for a new technique!
Wow this was soooo fun to watch. 3 totally different quilts. You girls never disappoint when it comes to creativity. Such an inspiration to many! Thank you so much for taking the time to let us in to your world of crumb quilt visions. It was so eye opening to me. Have a wonderful weekend MSQC Crew. You’re simply the best hands down! 😊
I love your quilt. I am currently doing my scraps/crumbs. Loving every minute. I am not being fussy. No rhyme or reason. Its great to see my dollars being saved LOL.
You three never disappoint! Such fabulous ideas! I took up quilting to make wedding quilts for all of my family and friends. This year, my son is getting married (YAY!) and I wanted to make him a medallion style quilt, but really did not have any idea on how to do it. Misty's quilt gave me the inspiration I needed and I drew out his quilt pattern. Thank You so Very Much for turning on the lightbulb inside my head!!
I loved all of these quilts, Jenny yours is so cute and scrappy, while I can see Natalie’s design perfect for my grandson grays, black, white and red! And Misty yours for My Victorian Bed! Love all the beautiful ideas and can’t wait to get started! Thanks ladies you guys are so creative and fun to watch!
I LOVE crumb piecing. I just make bunches of blocks, and then sew "something" when I get enough. I've made a LOT of bags and other container-type things. Lots of fun, Jenny, thank you.
I loved all these, but especially Natalie's. I have to say my thought when you first said crumb quilt was the Sonoran Star that Misty did, but with crumb HST's and solid background. Would feel like Natalie's big block.
My greatgrama...she made a quilt like this one but by hand...she teach us how to sew
I learned doing this onto a 9x9 inch piece of muslin, standing at a treadle sewing machine, because if I sat I could not reach the pedal. Love your triple play. I think I need to live another 50 years to accomplish all these beautiful projects. Thank you for the inspiring projects.
Natalie and Misty!!! OMG!!!!! LOVE how you girls think outside the box!! Jenny, yours is a marvelous traditional crumb quilt.
Hi Michelle
Lovely ideas. I just love love love Natalie's quilt!
Loved seeing Natalie and Misty trying to interpret Jenny’s creative genius.
I thought that too! Crumb piecing is better done alone!! 😁

Fully expected a template pattern but you’re doing a real crumb demo. This is m favorite way to quilt with my brain refusing to repeat. Love it.

Natalie, you always have unusual quilts and I love them.
