Exactly. It’s fascinating. Just yesterday we were ganging up on people for using disposable baggies to pick up their dogs’ poo. Now we’re encouraging incredibly wasteful and totally unnecessary practices.
Yes totally agreed! I stopped using disposable wipes years ago. The cost adds up quickly, they’re irritating, and it creates so much garbage, it’s just not enviro-friendly. As long as you’re regularly washing and disinfecting your towels, and storing them properly, you’re good👍
I just use 100% cotton baby towelettes. They’re the texture of cotton t shirts and the same size of a typical makeup wipe. They come in a pack of about 20 and I only use them one time then wash them with my whites! I also use fragrance free detergent and bleach to wash my towels
Some of the best advice you have given me is to apply moisturizer directly to a wet face, thus eliminating the need to dry your face with a towel all together.
Exactly! I almost never “dry” my face because after I get out of the shower or wash my face/do my skincare it’s the best time for my moisturizer to soak in. It just air dries in moments.
Lol more like "Okay, it's 2023... if you're STILL using single-use disposable wipes for your face regardless of how much pollution we now know they cause... what are you doing?"
Washing your washcloths after each use as Dr Dray recommends is also using electricity and water so is that really better than disposable bamboo washcloths????

Unrelated, but I went to the dermatologist for the first time ever yesterday (I’m 29) and I never would have gone to address my skin issues with a professional had it not been for this channel. Grateful to have found a professional of color who has expertise in diagnosing skin conditions in people with my Fitzpatrick skin type. Thanks for helping me break some generational curses ❤️
I went to a derm after watching Dr Dray, I was referred to a lovely lady whom sorted out my skin issues really quickly, spent time educating and gave me a routine to follow using an affordable pharmacy brand. Her advise has always been in line with what Dr Dray teaches here
For those of us they don’t have a washer dryer I hate to admit to but sometimes I have a towel for 1-2 weeks ( often longer) . It is a privilege to have access to clean towels .
Just get a big old towel and cut it into single cloths. You will easily get one clean cloth per day, and washing them will be like washing one big towel
I agree those disposable towels and makeup wipes are really a waste of money. I bought these reusable cotton rounds from Etsy, I use these to remove my eye makeup they are very soft, especially on sensitive skin. I have several wash cloths that I use to dry my face. Thank you Dr. Dray for sharing this video. Take care everyone 🌹
I use a towel. The same one for several days in a row. I've never had an issue. When my skincare routine changed the acne cleared, but my towel routine has never changed.
Thank you for this! I never believed the claims. However, I do have to admit that I buy these when I travel abroad. Cloth washcloths are not commonly found in hotels or Airbnb rentals in some countries due to hygiene reasons. I bring disposables like the ones mentioned here.
One of your best videos ever. I love the ending where you said you don’t use a towel. I have a good bath towel hack, I put a bath towel after using it in the dryer before hanging it back up in the bathroom, I feel that I don’t have to wash them as often. If I do this, they seem so much fresher between washes.
I never thought that hand towels caused acne, but using hand towels on my face grosses me out just in general. But that can be avoided by keeping a bunch of cheap clean washcloths on hand to dry with.
I use a fresh washcloth sized “makeup eraser” type microfiber towel to dry my face, every morning and evening. (They’re a dupe, in a multi pack, from Amazon.) I also use similar mini pads to apply eye makeup remover, micellar water or toners. (I wash the eye makeup off the cloth, with a bit of hand soap, hang to dry and then toss into my hamper, to machine wash, the end of the week. That gets most of the makeup off the pads and avoids any makeup getting on other stuff in the washer.) There really is no need to buy disposable cloths and pads…
I just keep a bunch of clean hand towels and use those to dry my face and the counter afterwards. I have a lot of them, so I just toss it into the hamper immediately afterwards. I’ve been doing that for years, and I don’t know if it helps with my facial skin, but it def helps keep the counter a little less gross. Lol
I wish I could ‘love’ your videos instead of ‘like’ them. Everyday there is some new random product appearing on shelves telling us how we have been doing something wrongly all along. The market just constantly uses fear tactics to manipulate us. Thank you for not being a greedy, toxic influencer. You are just the best, period! ❤
I bought a few multiple packs of small towels from target YEARS ago and they’re still going strong. I do like to use a new face towel everyday, but it doesn’t require creating excess waste.
I have the disposable towels and regular towels. I use the disposables ones when I travel go to a hotel or an ABB. They are convenient and I know they are clean.
I would use paper towels from the store before I knew avoiding fabric softener and changing a towel once a week was the solution to stop a rosacea flare.
Thank you so much for this!! I almost fell down that rabbit hole last month, then felt like I at least needed enough new face cloths to be able to use a clean one every day 🤦🏻♀️ It’s not just on TikTok, either, lots of influencers promote this idea
Just take a big towel and cut it into small cloths. Then you will have a clean cloth for each day and still only have used one towel for the whole week
I bought 16 white face towels that I designated soley for my face. I use one side for the morning & the other for night. I’ve been doing this for 2 years and my skin is doing better than ever. They get washed with the whites & that’s that. ❤
I had not heard of this trend before this video. It is infuriating. Creating more waste to dispose of in landfills, when there is a perfectly good alternative that has been used basically up until now, is inexcusable. I don't care if it's supposedly degrades, how long is that going to take? Not to mention the complete and utter waste of money.
Years ago, I starting buying 12" square white cotton washcloths. I have over one hundred of them in constant rotation so I can always use a fresh towel to pat dry my face and then wipe down the counter. I also use the towels to remove the occasional mask or stubborn makeup. Because I have so many, I can dedicate a single load of laundry to washing them in hot water. If one gets too dingy or rough, I relegate it to my stock of house cleaning rags. I like having a fresh "towel" for my face that hasn't used throughout the day for drying hands.
I do the same, it feels way more sustainable. I started buying soft wash cloths when I had my first baby 14 years ago (baby wipes didn’t feel right) and then I just bought some more and kept going. They hold up well.
Do you bleach your white towels? Boric acid boast for laundry detergent and white vinegar in the rinse is what I use on colored towels and wash cloths.
@@21972012145525 I think you misunderstood. Each time a wash my face, I dry it with a clean, fresh cloth. I then use the same towel to dab/wipe any water than might have splashed around the sink. That towel is then dropped in a hamper and not used again until it has been washed. If a towel gets a stain from cosmetics (mascara, etc.), then it is relegated to the household rag bag. I don't scrub my face with a cloth and my professional cleaners take care of the weekly scrubbing/cleaning in my house.
Well as usual, I'm out of the loop again. I didn't even know disposable face towels existed. Doesn't appear I'm missing much. Big no for me. Thanks, as always, Dr Dray, for letting me know about things I would otherwise be completely blind to. Happy Friday!! I hope you, your sweet momma and little Tybee have a wonderful weekend! 💞
I know some derms recommend these (like the Clean Club Skin Towels or the bamboo ones some of which are reusable) but there are some derms/skincare folks who recommend using a different towel (usually microfiber) each night like the makeup eraser and the vintage cosmetic company 7 day make-up removing cloths.
Dr Dray's videos always rock, but I just can't keep up with the volume ! I mean, how does this lady put out informative, research-based derm care videos every single day ? Mind blowing.
I actually love them and also use the other side to clean my counters and it has saved me from having makeup that got missed washing my face, all over my towels.
I provide the Kleenex towels for guests, because many don’t like to use a communal towel. Also the box I obtain from Amazon lasts me a year. However, I don’t use them.
All I can think of while watching this girl talk about the disposable wipes is, why not just use toilet paper and then let it dry so you can use it for "something else". This is ridiculous. I tend to use a wash cloth to rinse my face at night (because I'm a messy face splasher), I then use a dry clean wash cloth to dry my face and use that one the next night to wash with so I'm always washing and drying with a clean washcloth.
I appreciate this video alot. I'm also glad that you addressed washing linens "regularly", but I would even dare to say---- wash and CHANGE linens out (especially towels and pillow cases) frequently. I think alot of people do not consider washing very thoroughly and changing these items often enough. Great video, Dr. Dray! Thank you!
Dr Dre you are the GOAT!!! Amazing content as usual, I appreciate you breaking your argument down with science and explaining what bacteria cause acne, what they live, and what we need to look out for. Thanks for your amazing content!!!
The only dermatologist I trust on here … Wow this video came at the perfect time!!! Was just contemplating if buying those disposable towels was necessary .. THANK YOU! One question .. HOW clean do my hands need to be when I apply moisturizer on a clean face? I have a similar routine as you after shower .. turn water off, tie hair up, use an oil on my wet skin while I’m STILL in the shower .. then between opening the shower door, using that oil on my skin and stuff I feel like I need to wash my hands again before moisturizing my face ?? At this point my face is already dry and I’ve heard it’s not good to let it air dry completely unless you’re moisturizing while still damp … thoughts ?
@@DrDrayzdayyeah it maybe cheap now but you will be surprise on how much it will add up over time and it impractical to keep on buying it every time you need one just get those regular cloth and use that and wash it regular
I use them when I’m travelling as it’s unhygienic and inconvenient to have wet face towels when you’re moving around. But otherwise I have a large stash of reusable ones that I wash and disinfect.
I happened to be changing my bed linens while i was watching this, and when you got to the bit about dust mites, I pulled out the vacuum and got to work😅 Thanks for the info!!!
I actually purchased these specifically for a trip and found them to be rough feeling on the skin. If you have a towel specifically for the face at home there is absolutely no need for these. Stop doing all kinds of weird things with your towel like wiping your counters etc and then wiping your face with it and wash it regularly you won’t have issues.
I used to use towels but they get dirty too quickly and I was sick of washing them. Now using regular paper towel to wipe my face, just more convenient.
Thank you! These things are so wasteful! I bought about 12 small, white towels (sort of like a cross between a hand towel and a washcloth size) some time ago and I use them only to dry my face, I use a clean one each time I dry my face, and I wash them after each use. As long as you're doing your laundry correctly they get clean.
I havent had acne from a towel BUT i have gotten styes on my eyelids from a towel. I never, ever use a towel to wipe my eyes. Just use a small bit of tissue paper.
You don’t even need a face towel. That’s when you apply your hyaluronic acid creams and serums. Your face should be wet when you apply them for optimal effect. Air dry then retinol then a moisturizer to cover the retinol.
What I do is buy the small cotton towels at target and I use those as a one time use for my face. So much better than using disposable wipes. Sometimes in lazy to do laundry and I use my towel. These girls are wild 😅
I also feel like theres other more sustainable option like buying 10 small toweles or cutting up an old cotton shirt. If you have 14 little scares to dry your face and just wash them regularly after each or two uses you get your single use towel without the garbage.
I used to believe this that's why I used to use a fresh hanky to dry my face then throw it in the laundry hamper right after. I think my concern was bacteria. Thick face towels that didn't dry properly start to get that telltale musty smell
I used to be someone who used tissue paper to dry my face until I stopped doing that and would just "squegee" the water off my face using my fingers, that leaves it damp enough for me to then go in with my hydrating toner. It feels more hydrating.
Great Advice Dr Dray! Thank you for all the informative information. I buy the cheap washcloths at Target or Walmart and use a clean one every time I wash my face. Wash in hot water twice a week. When they start looking ragged I use as cleaning cloths. I change my pillow cases twice a week. Sheets once a week. My skin looks great at age 71.
During the healing phase of my recent laser procedure I did feel the need to avoid using the always damp handtowel that the rest of my family uses. I used some regular paper towels, selecting the smallest size to tear off. I definitely think it was more hygienic!
I just took a large old towel and cut it into small washcloths that I use once or twice when I oil cleanse, then wash them. Cheaper than single use towels
Hi Dr. Dray!! I know you get plenty of requests to try different skincare lines. I'd love to see you review the Beekman 1802 line. I remember you mentioning the midnight milk from the line. I enjoy watching your videos daily:)
I just bought myself some small guest towels, that I use 1 or 2 times to dry my face, and then wash them. Heck, for just your face you could use a towel as small as a washcloth.. Or, just use nothing! I use them to dry my hands afterwards too etc. Keeps my face clean, don’t have to dry my face with my body towel, and I don’t have to wash all these bigger towels all the time. Single use things should be used only if absolutely necessary, or there is no other option.
I like to use a soft microfibre cloth to gently pat my face dry, usually use the same one for a day or 2 (morning & night) and then put it in the wash.
I never dry my face with a towel. I let it air dry a little, then go in with my actives and moisturizer. But i do like the idea of using these for travel, for washing my face!
On the other hand, washing your washcloths after each use uses electricity and water so is it really more wasteful to use bamboo disposable washcloths? Also I am allergic to bleach. Bleach is not good for fabrics. Those prone to contact dermatitis may react to detergents, fabric softeners, bleach, or molds on towels. So in these cases the disposable washcloth might just be a better choice
I no longer use a wash cloth on my face or body . I use my hands only. I like the small/medium makeup remover microfiber cloths. I just gently hold that on my face for few seconds to get rid of water and drips . Then pat neck. While face still damp I apply moisturizer. Then every couple days wash the cloth out while I’m in the shower and hang to air dry . I also, think they work better than cotton pads if needed to remove stubborn eye make up . I double cleanse and Habo labo cleansing oil works well for removing eye make up before second cleanse.
I have been doing what Dr. Dray has been doing when it comes to drying my face for about a year now. I just don't wipe my face. My country is hot so it won't take long for my face to dry so I just stopped wiping my face. I will put on moisturizer when my face is still rather damp and I like how it feels... Honestly, Dr. Dray is making me spend less on taking care of my skin without compromising the results. Thanks, Dr. Dray! ❤❤❤
Many years ago you mentioned you don't use a towel to dry yourself so I began to do the same. Now after I turn off the water, I kind of push the water or lightly squeegee my face with my hands. After a minute or so, my face is damp and it's time to put the moisturizer on. And actually I have put moisturizer on with very dripping wet face at times, too
I just bought a little box of 15 for 3 bucks to try. I wanted to have my little influencer inspired skincare moment, lol. I really like them. I may buy a 50 pack in the future, but I am also stocking up on white washable cloths that I will wash separately and only use on my face.
These have been useful to me while traveling or whenever I don't feel like doing laundry. My regular towel works fine, it goes into the hamper after each use. Overall I'm spending money on laundry detergent and my water bill or buying these from Clean Skin. I can say that my motivation for purchasing had nothing to do with acne, moreso a convenience, my face is fine due to consistency and proper sunscreen use ❤
This is me! I buy mine to wipe my neck area in the morning. I take the disposable face towel, wet it and wipe the neck area because I don't wanna get my shirt wet. I never wipe my face to dry, i air-dry it. I could use a regular towel, but it's the hassle of doing ANOTHER LOAD of laundry for it. I have OCD when it comes to laundry so I don't wanna make it worst.
Finally! Someone said it. The urgency created to buy these products is overbearing

It’s 2023 and they’re pushing single use products? Shipped from the other side of the planet? Fascinating.

Nah im not buying a towel just to throw it away so wasteful and impractical money wise in the long run
seems very costly in the long run
@@DrDrayzdayyeah it maybe cheap now but you will be surprise on how much it will add up over time and it impractical to keep on buying it every time you need one just get those regular cloth and use that and wash it regular
Oh my goodness the landfills are full cant believe this is being promoted. These influencers should do some research first.
I use them when I’m travelling as it’s unhygienic and inconvenient to have wet face towels when you’re moving around. But otherwise I have a large stash of reusable ones that I wash and disinfect.
I prefer to apply a moisturizer on damp skin.
Thank you for this! It’s pretty pervasive on tiktok
thanks for watching
I happened to be changing my bed linens while i was watching this, and when you got to the bit about dust mites, I pulled out the vacuum and got to work😅 Thanks for the info!!!
I actually purchased these specifically for a trip and found them to be rough feeling on the skin. If you have a towel specifically for the face at home there is absolutely no need for these. Stop doing all kinds of weird things with your towel like wiping your counters etc and then wiping your face with it and wash it regularly you won’t have issues.
But I like mine. Budget derm recommended them months ago. They come in handy. I use the edges of mine to dry my hands later.
I used to use towels but they get dirty too quickly and I was sick of washing them. Now using regular paper towel to wipe my face, just more convenient.
Small towels cost about a Dollar. Buy 10 so you dont need to wash them that often.
Yea. Why use and spend $ in these when you can dab with a normal paper towel
Thank you for consistently being the voice of reason on skincare UA-cam.
Thank you! These things are so wasteful! I bought about 12 small, white towels (sort of like a cross between a hand towel and a washcloth size) some time ago and I use them only to dry my face, I use a clean one each time I dry my face, and I wash them after each use. As long as you're doing your laundry correctly they get clean.
i was waiting for someone to finally say it.
such a waste of money that's beying trendy all over the internet.
tip - use a dehumidifier in the bathroom. much more effective than the fan thing on the ceiling. also prevents shower mold
Common sense wins again! Thank you!🎉
I havent had acne from a towel BUT i have gotten styes on my eyelids from a towel.
Normal paper towels and Kleenex
I used to believe this that's why I used to use a fresh hanky to dry my face then throw it in the laundry hamper right after. I think my concern was bacteria. Thick face towels that didn't dry properly start to get that telltale musty smell
Did any of these people ever hear of washing your towels?
I used to be someone who used tissue paper to dry my face until I stopped doing that and would just "squegee" the water off my face using my fingers, that leaves it damp enough for me to then go in with my hydrating toner. It feels more hydrating.
Great Advice Dr Dray! Thank you for all the informative information. I buy the cheap washcloths at Target or Walmart and use a clean one every time I wash my face. Wash in hot water twice a week. When they start looking ragged I use as cleaning cloths. I change my pillow cases twice a week. Sheets once a week. My skin looks great at age 71.
I buy those baby washcloths -- super soft and just big enough to dry your face.
This is why I never go on Tik -Tok! 😮
Yes, absolutely 100% ridiculous. Do these people not know how to wash their linen regularly?! That’s all you need to do, simple.
How about just wash your towels?
Next thing you know, they're going to be recommending single use pillow cases. 🙄
dont give them any ideas now
They already exist. It's bedding for travel that is disposable
I just let me face air dry a bit then start to slather on my face products onto damp skin. I never use a towel/wipe to dry my face.
Another great lesson from our guru Dr. Dray.🌺💝
So
... You do use a wash cloth 😅😅
Also why not stick it in the washing machine?
Excellent video, yet again.
Thanks, Dr. Dray! ❤❤❤
All my life Ive been using paper towels to dry my face. I let them dry and reuse for wiping up water on the floor after a shower.
Many years ago you mentioned you don't use a towel to dry yourself so I began to do the same. Now after I turn off the water, I kind of push the water or lightly squeegee my face with my hands. After a minute or so, my face is damp and it's time to put the moisturizer on. And actually I have put moisturizer on with very dripping wet face at times, too
I always wash my face with clean hands, never a face cloth unless you sterilize them first, then I apply skin care. My Mum was a great teacher.
Happy Friday Dr Dray so excited to be here I live for this ❤️

I almost fell for the fear mongering about using these for acne-prone skin! Thanks for easing my worries and explaining the science
