Now that you heard the studio version of Stairway, you absolutely must listen to the 73 MSG live version. The guitar solo will floor you. Even if you can't do the live reaction please listen to it, only because you appreciate the music now as we did in the day. I was fortunate enough to see them live 3 times in the 70's and each time it was like hearing them for the first time because they would change it up. Many people say that 1973 concert at the Garden may be the best concert of all time of any band. Thanks for your reactions they really are genuine.

You have to do the live version after the studio version. Specifically the Madison Square garden 1973 concert. Mind blowing!

I been listening to Zeppelin over 52 years. I have heard every Zep song over 10,000 times each. I believe it's best to do the studio version first then the live. Get to know the song then see how they expanded it live

Studio versions of Zeppelin are always great. Jimmy recorded this song playing 3 different guitars then had a double necked guitar custom made so he could try to reproduce that studio sound of many guitars. Watching him playing and catching the seamless switch from 12 string to 6 string is epic. Worth checking it out!

There are some incredible live versions. However, I would reboot this journey and start from the very beginning. 1st album, 1st song and so on. Discover them organically.

I own all the Led Zeppelin albums in vinyl. Saw them in concert when I was a teen, went with my father (a jazz guitarist). I would say listen to the studio versions first then the live. These guys were amazing live

Jimmy's guitar job on this theme is simply an everlasting masterpiece. He had to mix twice the fourth record, by the way. The first one he mixed the tapes it was in Los Angeles, but the studio speakers sound there very different from average ("out of there it seemed to be recorded under water"), and he had to re-start all the mix work from the beginning at Olimpic Studios, (I think I remember) London.

John Paul Jones plays rhythm guitar. Watched your reaction to Kashmir by Led Zeppelin a few minutes ago. Enjoyed your reaction to Jimmie Page on lead guitar. Another great guitarist was Stevie Ray Vaughn (deceased) & Double Trouble: Texas Flood, Voodoo Child, Lennie, etc., etc., etc.

Here’s one live Led Zep to get you moving: “Trampled Under Foot live 1975”. The guitar solo is extreme, even by Jimmy Page standards.

Omg. Always LIVE MSG version 1973 for this specific song. Its nothing like the other performances.
The Madison Square Garden 1973 version of this is crazy. Out of all their LIVE songs Stairway at MSG is actually considered to be their best version. Stairway to Heaven was their most played song but if you go through their catelog almost all their songs are insane. ❤

Try to wrap your mind around pure fact the 1973 live "Stairway" version was even better than audio! Oh, you missed hearing and seeing Jimmy Page play one of the most outstanding guitar solos ever captured on film! To hear "Stairway" in concert, it was almost a spiritual experience. There was a definite feeling, mood cast by that song. Please, do yourself a huge favor...watch the 1973 live version!

@ShakuurReacts Do it, especially after hearing the audio. Great suggestion also from another reply: Start with Led Zeppelin's first album, take the amazing sound, sight journey in order. However, if you want another mind-blowing guitar and vocal LIVE video, "Since I've Been Loving You" 1973 MSG concert...there's no amount of words to describe this ...check it out!

Jimmy Page nailed the guitar on this one. He worked with John Bonham (drummer) for a long time, trying to work out how to speed up the song a little from part to part.
You mentioned John Paul Jones. He played bass, electric piano, and three separate flutes (some call recorders) on the song. As usual, if you imagine the song without all of that, it will sound like disjointed lyrics, guitar, and drums.
Overall, I strongly prefer the album version because it is cleaner than any live performance. Some songs are bland on an album and energized on stage (such as AC/DC's Thunderstruck or anything by Kiss). This isn't one of those songs. There is a suggestion for The Song Remains the Same/The Rain Song, which were commonly played back-to-back in concert. Those have more energy live than on the album. Anything from the first album is supposed to be live. It is just American blues being regurgitated by British youth. Makes you wonder what Willie Dixon or Howlin' Wolf would have sounded like if they had a better production environment for recordings.
I've personally always wondered if Robert Plant messed up a lyric in the end. No matter how many times this is remastered, the album version still has the line "How everything still turns s-to st-gold." Did he accidentally sing something like "stone" and they overdubbed it to try and drown out the mistake? I don't know and it doesn't really matter, but I can't stop hearing it.

    • @ShakuurReacts
      @ShakuurReacts  Рік тому

Thank you for that!! Yeah that flute sound I kept hearing was a really nice touch to the overall song

I’m going to make another comment here regarding the studio versions vs the live versions. What I’m going to say is going to sound like heresy to many fans, but here goes. I’ll preface by saying I’ve been a fan since the 70’s and saw them live multiple times in that decade and have heard all the live recordings that you all have. I still have bootleg vinyl (remember those?) from the 70’s. In the studio I could argue that Page’s playing is unmatched. He was a prodigious studio side man for years before the Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin, playing on hundreds of recordings by artists from LuLu to The Rolling Stones. His studio work with Led Zeppelin is genius. But when going through his live recordings you have to dig a little deeper to find the great ones. While many of his popular live recordings are great, my favorite being the 1973 No Quarter, there are many recorded nights where his live playing borders on sloppy, is hard to follow, and nowhere near the quality of his studio work. There, I said it. Take your shots. I’m not saying he’s not great live. I’m saying don’t be discouraged if you listen to a live one that doesn’t seem quite right. Try another and you’ll find the gems. ✌️
