Great simple video. I've two questions, first why you would choose an umbrella instead of a softbox and second which clamps are those from smallrig? I only find one with a cheaper ball head. all the best

      Hey! Thanks!
Umbrella's are more common in photography than video, but in general they are cheaper, lighter, smaller, and easier to store / transport than softboxes. However, they are not as good at controlling the light and the spill of the light compared to a softbox. So for big groups that you want to light more evenly I'd opt for an umbrella to get more even spread and bounce but if you want that separation from the background like a talking head video or a single person I would choose a softbox.
The "Smallrig Superclamp" is what they're called, should be easy to find on amazon.

@@alanlavery many thanks for your answer. So... I just went to umbrellas, did you ever tried this lights with umbrella? I have de x60 and 100x light and both makes shadows on the umbrellas wire. is this normal? I noticed that with 105cm umbrellas makes less shadows then a 80cm umbrella. and with the reflective umbrella it makes very strange reflective shapes...

Looks harsh even with that big softbox grid

Distance from the light is pretty important for softness also and I'm stood literally right in-front of it since I was in a small room. Push it back a couple of feet and it would be decently soft.

Please keep in mind softbox or no softbx you have to set it up close or far away to get the soft look all lights cheap or expensive will give you a harsh light if it’s not far back enough

Amazing light! Not so amazing battery grip. If you read the reviews of the battery grip on B&H or Adorama, it is not up to the light quality and dependability. I suggest buying the light only, the bowens adaptor AND a laptop portable battery (anker or other brands) with 100W power delivery. It might not attach to the light, but you can have battery for way more than 30 minutes, depending on the portable charger capacity, and even spend less

After having these for a few months, 2 of my 3 battery grips for this have died, which is very disappointing.

@@alanlavery I've got a power bank with 100w pd for 37 usd in Amazon and it works just perfectly, full power with the molux x100

@@victorcandia yeah it’s just not as convenient however. I use these lights with super clamps in hard to reach places so having another battery to clamp somewhere with a dangling cable is not ideal.
