    We got our hands on a couple early copies of the zhiyun molus g60 as well as the zhiyun molus x100 lights and these things are pretty slick. They are completely new designs that really are unlike anything else currently on the market and they are EXTREMELY SMALL.
    In this unboxing and brief review video we talk about the basics of these two lights and I give you my initial impressions on the impact they might have for wedding videos. Enjoy this brief molus g60 review and x100 review before we truly put them to the test and come back with a much more in depth version.

    I think the Idea of the X100 is to have something in your bag that does not take up a lot of space. In a wedding, if the talents go off scripts into a dark area, for example, you could pull it from your back and just light right there for that scene. I carry 2 M40w lights for the same purpose. I would say mobility is their main purpose, their only real advantage.

    really good review jason, appreciate it. exactly what we needed to know. i was surprised at the fresnel performance. that's pretty cool. but the needed fresnel sort of undoes the point of the small size of these lights. might as well have a 60x, or i like my Godox ML60bis. maybe the next iteration of these will be a better fit for wedding folks. thanks!

    THANK YOU for this review. Starting at 5:30 is what I’ve been dying for someone to test. How would they hold up at a reception, and the answer is they won’t. But MAN I was hoping they would because I love the size. Oh well. Thanks for killer review

      No problem! Not the perfect light at the moment but it's a step in the right direction I'd say! Hoping they solve some of these problems with their next set of lights!

    To respond to why Zhiyun doesn’t allow you to power with the V-Mount batteries, because it’s a small 120 power draw light. 14V V mount batteries are not designed to power these types of lights. Nanlite has the same thing with their forza 150. You’ll actually ruin the battery if you try to power the molus with them.
    There are some power banks that can power the light at full power for 2 hours though.

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  Рік тому

      Yep.
      Still… a problem that can be resolved and would make the light more useful for events. Like we said… it’s great for content people but for the v-Mount/Gold mount centered event and corporate world it isn’t a great fit.

      I just bought both, i just wanted lights, i dont Dismiss taking with me, because of the bulk. Im still worried, if they turn out to be bright enough. The x100 is indeed weird, the battery grip connected via the a usb c cable only allows 30watts of Power draw, but the same cable with the g60, im at 60watts. I hope i can safe some footage from beeing shot in a doffocult way. 😊

      @@dirtykraut there are 100w type-c cables and 200w power banks that will give you the ability to power the light at 100 brightness

      @@JamesJacksonFilmz Youre right here, but i testet the cable of my Macbook and Expected it to work. Yeah and powerbanks, i just bought a 70 watthour one for less than 30€ with 60 watt output. I'll just need better cables. I do appreciate the concept of this lights. I just hope, they will fit my needs.

    wonderful video! like the others in the comments i was hoping it was gonna be bright enough or for the battery to last long enough for weddings. BUT i was wondering if you had the chance to test out the x100 with the Vmount battery plugged in along WITH the supplied battery attached simultaneously? Sorry if you already addressed this lol

    When I first saw this light I thought it would be great for weddings as well until I saw the light duration and the proprietary battery. If they make it a V-Mount, gold mount or NP-F battery connection, it would be amazing and really be a competitor to all the popular brands.

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  Рік тому

      Yes and no, it would be another good option but it wouldn't beat out the current leader (imo the aputure 60x) because even if they included an npf connection option you'd still need to buy a fresnel with barn doors which makes it the same price and also the same size essentially so something somewhere has to give but I'm excited to see what they do in the future!

    As a person who have multiple pd powerbanks to power the cameras (for livestream) I think zhiyun is definitely more better for me ( my feelword monitor/accsoon cineview wireless hdmi set can be powered by usb-c, and now the light is joining in the queue), plus my macbook, ipad and android is also charged by usb-c. What zhiyun really dropped the ball for me is the big AC adapter they included with those Molus light, they should be including usb-c pd charger which is way smaller by comparison.
    I guess if u have a bunch of vmount/np-f batteries then this will be less attractive to you.

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  Рік тому

      I’d say most filmmakers have tons of v-mount or NP batteries. That’s being said… we may not be the audience they are after.

    I'm glad we are on the same page with this one. These are just not good lights for weddings. And if you want them to be on par with other currently used options, you'll have to pay extra for accessories and increase the bulk. Might as well just get an aputure ls60.

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  Рік тому

      Like we said, there is probably some wedding or some artist that doesn’t care about the stuff we brought up… But we just don’t see them as $550 lights and that’s what it takes to kit them out. Could be a cool launching pad for the future of lights though… so that’s cool.

    Alot of small venues in Pennsylvania so the zhiyun 100 and 60 would be fine, but if you go to a larger venue it would be better to have the aperture.
    Unless you dont need to light the whole room and just the main table for speeches and then the dance floor

    • @WeddingFilmSchool

      @@WeddingFilmSchool I was debating on the x100 for travel weddings, but the brightness and battery life doesn't seem good enough even with a 99wh vmount. I'll probably go with the aputure ls 60x

    Wasnt meant to actually take up the whole ceremony reception. It's perfect for weddings just for those creative shots with less footprint you have with you.

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  Рік тому

      Totally… most filmmakers don’t bring lights for that in our experience but for anyone who does it’s a great option.

      @@WeddingFilmSchool It's the thing especially here in the Philippines where Same Day Edit Videos are a norm during weddings. That 30-min light duration is just perfect when you actually just need a minute or two to get some quick creative shots of the groom and his groomsmen, ring, details, bride or during postnuptial portraits. Receptions here are already well-lit.
      Don't just review things according to your use or perspective of things.
