    When I was 17 my aunt gave me a 1976 Chevy Chevette that her mechanic told her to just drive it till it died cause it was burning so much oil. Used Marvels in the oil and gas for a while and it stopped burning oil, l ended up putting 70,000 miles on that car gave it to a friend and she drove it for a couple years. Used Marvels ever since

    Late to the party, but I'll put my $.02 in. I've used MMO for the past 40 years. I am sold on this product. Even the military used it in WWII.
    So, back when I had carbureted engines, I just dumped a quantity down the throat of the carburetor and revved the throttle from under the
    hood to distribute it through the intake manifold and the cylinder heads. Smoked like hell, but it cleaned out the varnish deposits from the
    carburetor, cleaned and lubricated the intake valves and cylinder heads. I keep my vehicles for 15-20 years until other parts start to wear out
    and it becomes economically unviable to keep replacing those parts instead of getting a new vehicle. But I've never had engine problems, even
    after 250K - 300K miles. Now my pickup and Saturday car are 2001 and 2003 models with port fuel injection. So for them, I just add 6 oz of MMO
    to the fuel every 3K miles (16 gal fuel tanks), and it works to keep everything clean since the intake valves are washed by the fuel injected into
    the intake manifold. However I bought a GDI car in 2015 to replace my aging 1998 Saturn. Still use MMO in the fuel to keep the injectors and cylinder
    heads clean and lubricated, but I was stumped on how to get the intake valves cleaned. Until I face palmed and remembered just to put it
    down the throttle body as I used to. I would use a spray bottle to atomize the MMO better than the sprayer Nates used and hopefully not drown the
    engine since you can't rev the engine from under the hood with an electronic throttle. As far as not coating the MAF sensor as a comment below
    calls out. I agree. But the MAF is generally up near the air filter and notice that he is spraying directly into the throttle body.

    U should have a second person open throttle till about 1500rpm that would give the mystery oil some coverage instead of it falling from gravity and creeping into only 1 spot the whole time

    If that car has a MAP sensor the air consumed during IDLE is most likely drawn from the PCV valve/system. I think you should try reinstalling the airbox, locating the PCV hose and valve, then introduce the marvel into the engine through the PCV hose. It will clean the PCV ports as well. You should be able to see that there isn't much air being drawn past the throttle plate at idle. No spray pattern adjustment will compensate for that.

      The pcv breather you can actually see the tube in the video and the car still receives air at the throttle plate with map its un affected taking off air filter housing

    I love Marvel mystery oil, I've been using it since the 1970's. I think it works well in your crankcase oil and fuel. I think it works better in the fuel if used over time, just pour in a few ounces at each fill up, and you will get cleaning and carbon dissolving treatments continuously. Marvel can also make your plastic deform, so don't get any concentrated Marvel on plastic.

    Great that I have a port injection system. I only have to add mmo to fuel and oil. MMO will prove itself over time.
    I was sceptical in the beginning because i didn't 'feel' anything, but after 5 start-ups/trips of about 100km each, the car (BMW 525i) became very smooth riding. Even though i drove relaxed with max. 2000-2500 rpm in city and 3000 to 3500 rpm on the highway (140-160km/h).

    You might need to rev the engine a bit to around 3000 or less, otherwise the mystery oil would just pool up somewhere in the intake manifold. With that said, I use MMO religiously on so my vehicles, fuel mix only. I will use it for the first time as an engine flush this month so it should be good.

    • @NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO

      Yes i used as a engine flush in another video but what can i do to improve?

    • @Nanogrip
      @Nanogrip 5 років тому +4

      NATES INTERACTIVE AUTO - I think you're okay with this video, just needed to rev the engine so that the mystery oil can reach the intake valves better. Or if you can access the brake booster hose, then that would be a bit better, but I'm not too familiar with GDI engines hehe. I also use MMO mixed with acetone as a penetrative oil for stuck bolts, works pretty good. Anyway, God bless and Merry Christmas.

      What else cant i test

    • @Nanogrip
      @Nanogrip 5 років тому +2

      NATES INTERACTIVE AUTO - I was just thinking, since you can view the intake valves, would it be possible to spray a light amount of MMO onto them while the engine is cool, then let them soak for a day or two? I'm thinking that it might really loosen up the gunk. I don't think that it'll harm a GDI engine as long as the amount sprayed isn't a lot. What do you think?

    • @NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO
      @NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO  5 років тому +1

      Yeah its a great idea actually thanks alot any way i can add to the test to help see if the car improves?

  • @TheRichardF10
    @TheRichardF10 5 років тому +5

    I think MMO was too vicious for the test. But also MMO is a mild cleaner. I would recommend mixing gas and mmo together at the correct ratio and then injected it with the spray pump. That would be my approach for probably a more effective cleaning, if it does clean anything.

  • @AikidoTubeSock
    @AikidoTubeSock 5 років тому +3

    No fuel additive will affect carbon buildup in a GDI only engine. The gas is emitted into the cylinder AFTER the valves. The gas therefore never comes in contact with the back of the valve. This is why you have carbon build up. Only oily air goes past the back of the valve.
    Also, what is the goal of putting this in your gas tank?

  • @detrenko
    @detrenko 5 років тому +5

    It is going to take months of use of MMO in gas and oil to remove years of oil sludge. Anything that was strong enough to remove this much sludge in one treatment would eat all the rubber and rings in your engine. MMO was meant to be used regularly with oil changes and fill ups.

    Typically looking into others that have ran cleaners through majority have slipped the hose piece or straw after the throttle body because the throttle body that is not open can collect that liquid material and cause problems to those like my 04' Passat Wagon 1.8T which has a electronic throttle. Using anything other than throttle body cleaner can cause problems to the sensor and possibly to the electric/mechanical door actuator. So next test it probably be a good idea to slide the squirter tip after the throttle body door. Even if no issues arise unless you hit the gas enough to open the door some it's pretty much safer to avoid the risk of damaging that area. Had to replace mine on the Passat due to it's 228k on that and even though I didn't purchase original replacement I also had to pay out to have it reprogrammed. Love your vids tho. The issue with GDI is the lack of fuel to clean the back of the valve. This means anything added to the fuel will not clean the valve. With GDI a walnut blast will clean the back of the valve and will be a part of the maintenance of a GDI vehicle. Thankfully manufactures are coming out with port and direct injected vehicles which should help keep the back of the valve cleaner.

    When valves get that bad I don't think any chemical is going to do a very good job of cleaning them. Best bet would be to walnut blast them and then us some type of chemical cleaning through the intake to maintain the cleanliness.

      I don't think any cleaner will work to clean it off in the state it is in. The buildup has to be physically removed. But to maintain the only stuff I know that has worked for me is BG ISC induction cleaner and using a piece of equipment that sprays a mist into the throttle body with the engine running at about 1800 rpm. If done every 15k the. It should keep that carbon build up down.

    As a preventative measure when should you start doing this? Is it worth doing this on Toyota D4S motors (direct and port injections)? Since the Toyota motors still have gasoline being sprayed into the ports and cleaning valves as well as direct injection. I have a 2018 Tacoma TRD off road with the V6 DS4 motor.
    Also, on older vehicles how many treatments should you do and how often after that as a preventative measure?
    Is this worth doing on older vehicles that don’t have direct injection and have older designed port injection? Thank you for the answers and videos.

    Just out of curiosity,,,,how many miles are on your GDI engine ? I made the mistake of buying a DI engine this time, but from what im hearing, almost all cars and trucks are using them now days. I just bought my new/used truck and it only had 20K miles and i`ve added another 5K miles.
    I recently bought a Moroso Oil Separator "Catch Can" for added protection.
    I`ve worked on all my vehicles my whole life, and i`ve even built a few complete engines from the block up ( Old School ), but these new cars and trucks with all their sensors "WOW", what a mess. We live and we learn for sure.

    If you have a GDI engine, put an oil catch can in-between the crankcase breather and the intake. With direct injection the gas detergents don't clean the valves. The oil catch can catches the oil particulates before the recycle back in through your intake.
    Then I'd run a shit ton of seafoam spray in the intake to really get that deposit off the valves and intake runners.

    What i did to my Mazda3 GDI engine was, i gave it a nice cleaning inside the valve by scrubbing the carbon off with wire brush and some diy tools. Once cleaned, i installed an oil catchment tank to traps all the unbrunt oily fumes that deposited at the intakemanifold later sucked into the valves n gunked it again. So far after 10000 miles, i rechecked the intake valves and it still looks clean with minimal deposits inside it. But im still using MMO inside my fuel tank atvevery 3rd fuel up... that will maintain my fuel injectors nozzles and the top of my piston clean

    I've been using Marvel Mystery Oil for a long time. That was asking too much from MMO.
    I put it in the crankcase thirty minutes before I drop the oil. Oil drains much more thoroughly. It loosens sludge/trash with high detergent oil and then drains out better because it's a lot thinner with MMO in the oil. I have to drive four or five hundred miles before I can see it on the dipstick. Clean oil, happy motor.🎉

    The engine needs to be revved up as you do it, that would've made a difference, but it still wouldn't be as good as seafoam aerosol, marvel is good to mix with oil and to add to your fuel. The solvent in it is not that harsh, it's very mild. It works wonders in a crankcase, change the oil and add a 20 percent mixture drive it a few hundred miles then change it again, that oil will be jet black in that little bit of time.
