DON'T DO E.C. ELIMINATION COMMUNICATION. WHAT I WISH I KNEW BEFORE STARTING E.C. IS IT WORTH IT?

  • I’m here to tell you why you should not do elimination communication. It doesn’t make potty training easier. It doesn’t mean your baby will be potty trained earlier. You change diapers more often because the baby shouldn’t get used the the feeling of sitting in a wet diaper. You can make potty time as part of the disper changing routine.
It’s not potty training it’s communication so you still have to potty train your child.
EC is all about the adult/caregiver recognizing hints of communication the baby is giving that they need to pee/poop.
Though transitioning from communication and potty training is another step but I think the best book to read for that is “Oh Crap Potty Training” which focuses on just that.
You can do EC and potty train earlier or later
You can skip EC but still start potty training early before 2 years.
Just as doing EC does not guarantee early potty training. Not doing EC doesn’t mean you can’t potty train early.

We used cloth diapers with wool wicks. We also did Elimination Communication. The simple aspect of giving your infant an opportunity to use the bathroom when they wake up, just like EVERY human does, and also giving them the opportunity around 22 minutes after eating, was VERY effective. My daughter was potty trained before she was 1 years old. She waited to use the bathroom and started giving us sign language cues if we didn't provide the opportunity.
Learning your child and understanding their cicadian rhythm is only a good thing. To say one should not do this or base your anxieties with it as a result of the method is flawed thinking.
Diaper training a mammal to an unatural act causes a harder transition when toilet training later. My daughter ALWAYS associated the bathroom with bowel movements. Instead of teaching her to poop on herself, we taught her to poop in the toilet. How is that a bad thing?

I 100% agree! I could not just let my baby use a diaper when knowing they are peeing or pooping. Even for my husband, we don’t regret doing EC especially when the solid poops start coming or when we travel. I also feel like it’s so respectful to the baby.

So true. But my click through rate is much higher and viewers demand a thumbnail that evokes emotion. There are reasons to do EC and not.

Thanks for the video! Just wanted to say that I saw a video of yours from 2 years ago and then this one and your videos have really improved in that time! I'm getting ready to have my first kid in a couple months and found out about EC today and dove into that research rabbit hole which brought me here. I appreciated your perspective.

Thank you 🙏 I was working on this channel for 2 years when I was a SAHM and now I started a new channel and that’s been my focus (along with work and kids). This channel has definitely been more of a learning process and I’m not sure if I will continue to post here 😐

I LOVE this kind of no nonsense tips! I tried EC at about 3 or 4 months but what i was doing the way you said but then stopped because i felt like i didnt really understand EC and checking cues all day with another child in diaper and a 4 yo was just too much. I was looking for a video to find more about EC like how to do it practically and found this video. Thats perfect for me. My son is 6 months and i think this is perfect. Ill make a routine.
My older kids are 4 and 2 (3 in 2 weeks). The 2yo still in diaper and i dont want this for the 3rd one. Ill make a routine with the potty and diaper change.

Thank you. I clearly did EC but also see the benefit of not doing EC. Lots of videos make it seem soo easy and just awesome.
When relaxing about looking for cues, I found myself just seeing them at times. It felt less stressful instead of searching for cues. Congratulations on the third baby.

I did part time EC in the way that I put my baby on the potty every time I did a diaper changed. As you mention, I did change her quite often because I didn't want her to get used to feeling wet. In some periods she peed most of the times when I put her on the potty, in other periods she didn't. Fast forward to when she was about... 20 months old, I had an entire week that she was completely potty trained. But then the 'I-am-nearly-two-and-I-say-no-phase' came around and ever since she is sort of fighting when I want to put her on the toilet. Now she is 25 months old and still not out of that phase. I'm patiently waiting till she does. Because I'm convinced that due to E.C. she can deliberately hold her pee if she wants to, she can control her bladder as she likes. And I don't think that that would have been the case without part time E.C. But the biggest advantage of all why I think E.C. is worth it, is because she hasn't pooped in her diaper since she was 4 months old (except for one week when she went through a developing stage). And even though it is my own child, I think that dirty diapers are absolutely disgusting, especially when you do cloth diaper (what we did). So I'd say part time E.C. has been absolutely worth it to me. (I'm from the Netherlands btw ;) )

Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience. Bud bud is 25 months old also and on the no phase. We are also waiting for it to past but he does well out of the house holding it and peeing at offered times or by telling us. At home he tends to pee in his pants and I think it’s because there’s a change of clothes… I’m the same with poop 💩 I want no poopy diapers! 😝 Annisa

Diapers are the biggest waste. So bad for the earth. So I def think cloth is good if you can’t do ec. Also don’t you think they should sit less in their own body waste? That seems better to change more.

    • @KacangFamily
      @KacangFamily  4 місяці тому

Yes! Well we tend to change diaper quite often unless it’s a disposable and we are traveling or it’s night time. But we also do EC while traveling and have also continued using cloth diapers (challenging but doable) with disposables as an emergency.

Did you end up doing the "Oh Crap" book review? We're doing EC, have been since birth, now 10 months and in Australia.

    • @KacangFamily
      @KacangFamily  2 місяці тому

No I didn’t 😞 I ended up taking a break from posting videos but I’m thinking of starting up again. I like the “Oh Crap” book as a guide. I would do EC until baby is more independent and can walk, pull down pants, and sit independently before attempting potty training. Good job doing EC for 10 months already.

I did e.c. and my daughter is potty trained at 18 mths besides night time.
I did cloth and she used less diapers. I just did not want her to sit in yuck. I was not stressed I was happy about it.
    It is a process.
Not sure why someone would lie about diapers

After doing EC with one baby I just can’t ignore the signs when baby has to pee/poop even if I try. I wasn’t sure my husband would do it with our second but once we catch the poops in the potty it’s addicting.
      Definitely not for everyone.

Hi there! I enjoyed your video I hope you're well. I'm in northern America, I just started EC yesterday and have caught 3 poops already. I give my almost 7 week old opportunities, after waking, a bit after eating. I like giving her the opportunity to not have to poop in the diaper she's wearing

🙌 I love it. Someone in US ☺️ it’s always scary doing EC in public but then again less poopie diapers is golden. It’s all about the opportunity. I can’t imagine it’s comfortable to sit in your own squishy poop.

Doctors don’t recommend EC bc the babies tend to hold urine which can result in bladder and kidney infections

EC is great I couldn't go back to blindly using nappies, theres a great lady from Tamil Nadu on facebook EC group and she said even in traditional EC societies like hers, misses are 100% normal. My first child wasn't EC but still has accidents sometimes. I think the issue is when western perfectionism meets EC it goes wrong for people. I couldn't just sit and watch a baby pooing themselves now it makes me cringe!

    • @KacangFamily

Same! I tried to just take a break from EC with my second and it was impossible to just not offer. Especially, when it’s clear or going out my baby didn’t pee in the car seat. 💙 Annisa

When I shared this idea with people on FB someone I know said to me "It sounds like the parents are being potty trained". I said you can either use that time to change a dirty diaper or you can bring them to the potty.

Once you know about EC, it would feel neglectful NOT to offer your baby “pottytunities”
