It makes me tear up listening to you speak about parenting. You are so intentional and kind with your children. It’s so refreshing and inspiring! You’re doing great!
Pray for me! Starting potty training for my 3 year old who also has a speech delay ! ❤🙏🏽🙏🏽 Edit: 04/09/2024| I can gladly say my child is fully potty trained, it took about 2 months to get it right, but now he goes by himself to the toilet and can tell you when he needs it. He still has accidents but it’s fine, it happens. My advice is to stay consistent and don’t change routine, if you are at home with your child, make them walk around with just their underwear, push fluids during the day, run to the toilet to create that state of emergency(don’t give them an option), expect lots and lots of accident and keep encouraging them to use the toilet. Take your time there is no rush or pressure, children will learn when they are ready. For mothers that have children with a speech delay, ACTION is louder than words, not saying not to speak to them but keep showing and keep acting, your kids will eventually catch up.
I feel that there is so much mom peer pressure to potty train early when many kids just are not ready until 2.5 to 3. Both of my boys were not ready until closer to 3, and when they were, the whole process was a breeze. Our 6 month daughter has DS, so I'm expecting her to be in diapers longer than her brothers, but you never know. She could surprise us.
As an early educator for 16 years and the mom of three now grown folk, I tell everyone I know girls can typically potty train at around 18 months and boys I don’t even START until they are 3. Boys just need more time. But if you wait until they’re 3 they potty train as quickly as girls do.
This eases my heart a little. I was feeling so defeated because my son is 2 and needs to be potty trained to proceed to his next grade. It’s been challenging to say the least but we’re still trying.
@@shainad.6438with my little brother we put him in the bathroom with us I’d hold him on the toilet about 18 months and at about 2 years old he understood what the potty was and I think a little under 2 1/2 we started to go days without accidents but it was frustrating and hard but we got there eventually you got this!!!
My son had a speech delay so it wasn't until 2.5 when he even began communicating bodily needs so don't feel pressured parents! I actually had a family member tell me they couldn't believe my son was still in diapers and told me I needed to get him trained but it's not up to me, he needs to be ready.
Needed to hear this, my daughter is speech delayed, & sometimes I feel like I’m failing her because we’re not hitting milestone marks. Slowly we are getting there !
My daughter has been using the potty since she was 1 off and on so when we fulling potty trained she was ready and knew how to use a big girl potty. I never bought a small potty. She goes in there by herself now. She’ll be three in august!!! Good luck ladies!!
Megan, I’m sort of laughing at myself as my son turned 32: on the 16th and I’m watching your potty training video! It brought me right back to his experience , though, and wish that I’d had seen this then. Great advice!
Thank you Megan, there are so many expectations about potty training! But you made it more realistic and I’m happy the 3 day method worked for you, that’s exactly what I want to do with my toddler ❤
I had to potty train during the start of the pandemic when the stores were cleared out of diapers in Honolulu and I didn't have any cloth ones. We were in lockdown and the kid and I was isolated from the husband (ER doc). It wasn't too bad, but I don't recommend potty training this way! 😂
We love the folding portable seats. We got a green frog one and a yellow owl one. My son refused to go on the potty so these little seats on the toilet have worked great and also gave him familiarity for public toilets so they were never a problem
For both my kids we waited until 3 years old I just felt they would understand more idk lol. My boy had way more accidents than my daughter had and I've come to realize that when a boy has accidents the pee just kind goes everywhere and for the girl the pee just soaks all in the underwear and down the leg. Way less mess to clean up when potty training a girl haha. My daughter I'd say was way easier than my son. She started going in the public restrooms 2 months into potty training and it just so happened it was a porta-potty lol we were at a pumpkin patch at that was the only bathroom available. My son wouldn't use a public restrooms until he was almost 3 and half. It's crazy how different each kid potty trains when you have multiple kids. My boyfriend works all day so I basically trained both my kids by myself. We just did underwear all day and pull up at night until we got to potty training at night time.
Thank you so much for this video! I’m sure I’ll be referring to it in the future! My son is 27 months and only showing a few signs of readiness, but this will definitely come in handy in the next few months!!
Yes, so much pressure to do it early! We waited and it was a breeze. Also, I forgot stickers the first time my daughter was in a public restroom and she’s still terrified 🤦🏻♀️ So def stickers or a thing of post it notes went into the diaper bag! She can’t avoid public restrooms forever 🙂
I’d love to potty train my son, he’s a little younger than Rowan but he is autistic and nonverbal. I have no idea how to even go about potty training😅 if anyone has any experience with that I’d love some advice!
@I'm Drawing A Blank I'm in the exact same boat. First I tried teaching him hand signals, sign language but that's not working. The only thing that is working is to time it after I give him something to drink. Put him on potty 20 to 30 minutes after and give him his favorite treat when he pees in the potty. It will take longer but it will happen.
Does he sign at all? Mine has a speech delay and some sensory differences but not on the autism spectrum and his speech therapist taught him some signs for other needs like hunger or thirst! No potty training for us yet though, he has some withholding issues as well so I'd like to work through that first 😬 I'm sorry it's hard! Sending hugs ❤
I'm busy with training since January 😅 my son just turned 3, 3 weeks ago but we also moved to another country and speak English a lot (officially we are Dutch) so also I think he have a lot on his mind. I starting to worry a little bit bc in February the kindergarten starts and it's necessary to be potty trained. We already tried a lot of things but maybe I have to try to stay home for 3 days. (See how it goes with finn his energy 😂) I really don't want to rush it but on the other hand he is home with me since we moved and think he is ready for school seeing the fact how he play with other kids at the playground. (And I don't know if I can handle it to have him home for another 6 months 😂)
My son was potty trained at 18 months. We stayed home one weekend and put undies on him and he peed in it about an hour after starting. No coaxing, no demanding. He then continued for the rest of the day. The next day he was quite and I went looking for him and he was standing on tippy toes, trying to stretch his little doodle up over the rim of the toilet 😂. I put the seat on for him and he used it all the time. He never had an accident and at 2 I notice that the nappies were dry over night, so I told him one night no more nappies and again, no wet beds. He showed no signs of even wanting to use the toilet prior yo us starting. I used the same technique for the other two and the boy was fully trained by 2. My girl was fine for using the potty but wouldn’t do no 2 in the toilet. Around 20 months I would put her on the toilet and sit with her reading a book to her. It took a few weeks but once she used it once for no 2’s she then continued. None of my kids wet their beds. It is definitely individual to each child but. I was lucky that none of mine had ongoing issues. I did find with my grandkids that the ones that slept solid and were not easily roused, were the bed wetters. I think we believe that it is going to be so hard but in fact the majority of the time it is pretty easy. I love the idea of a tap out word between parents. 😊
My son will be 3 next month. We started potty training today. We introduced everything slowly because he needs to evolve into change lol. So far, he will not pee unless he has underwear on. Any advice on that?
Thank you for the tip on the too big underwear! My son has just started today and has been wearing loose trousers, and I've been wondering how to introduce underwear.
Thank you for making this video! I’ve been so nervous about starting potty training but just hearing how another mama got through it is so reassuring 🫶🏻
My girl is just now showing she wants to potty BUT only on the big potty, not her size potty. This video is very encouraging especially with the patience. Unfortunately, I do not have anyone to watch her during this potty training session straight. My husband and I work which even work at home, it’s been a struggle because with my baby being a girl, my husband doesn’t want to teach her (says it weird for a man to handle with her being a girl/ if she was a boy, he would do it no problem). So it’s just me doing it and I’m a first time mom who doesn’t know what to do. This is encouraging, once again, because I was stressing about her not being able to even recognize she’s wet.
I’ll be the first to say that’s very concerning. I was uncertain about having a daughter and learning to care for unfamiliar body parts, but declining to participate is not an option. I’m really sorry you are in these circumstances. Parenting is all or nothing. You don’t get to pick and choose the parts to be involved. Marriage is a partnership and he needs to come to terms with reality. If he can’t help teach his daughter about her basic bodily functions because “it’s weird” how will he ever be there for her when she goes through puberty and starts her period and all the other insane changes a woman’s body goes through in her life? “It’s weird” is not an excuse to shove the load all onto you. He needs to get familiar so it’s no longer weird. Funny note to end my rant on - I didn’t understand why Meg used so much toilet paper when she peed. Now having potty trained Juniper and wiping her, I understand. 😂
Loved this video! Currently in the thick of that now with my 27 Month old and definitely understand the pressure to get them potty trained right before two years!
Thanks for this video! My son just turned 2 and is starting to show signs that he is ready, but we got a little push back from daycare when we brought it up previously, because he doesn't do the same things there as he does at home. So I think we are going to wait until the fall when I am home full time. Maybe baby sis will spend a day or two with the grandparents so we can fully focus on him!
It sounds like you guys had great luck with the BLF method, but I think you were also right to wait and let Rowan "be ready". I've only seen success stories with the BLF method, but it didn't work for us at all, and I wish I'd listened to my mom who told me not to push my daughter. I followed the class to a T with my daughter at 27 months. She had already occasionally been peeing in the potty and had shown all the signs of readiness. We did the 3 day holiday weekend thing, no rewards or punishment, stay calm with accidents, etc. It was a DISASTER. She freaked out the minute I told her we were saying "Bye-bye" diapers, but still she got a few pees/poops in the potty the first morning and I thought we were on a roll. But then after that it became an unintentional power struggle - no idea what switched in her little toddler brain, but every single pee or poop went straight on the floor and every morning was a meltdown that I was taking the "sleep undies" off. By the end of night three we said forget it. She was just not emotionally ready. So here we are a few months later, she definitely seems closer to being ready now, and I think she'll sort it out on her own with a little more time.
Totally! We waiting until 30 months and I definitely don’t think he would have been ready at 27. Glad you decided to wait until she was ready and try again then! I hope it goes better for you the second time around
So I'm actually having a hard time potty training my two year old old daughter. She asks to go potty all the time but she gets up there and sits and instantly says she's all done. Any tips would help!
Sounds very cute but frustrating! 😂 Juniper is just starting to actually go potty as well. It’s hit or miss, but the curiosity is good and she has a good time with it. I suggest talking with her about feeling pee and poo inside. Or encouraging her to sit and stay if possible until she’s all done. For juniper there is a lot of fun in wiping and flushing, so I don’t let her do those things unless she actually goes. Every kid is different! She might not really be ready, but the curiosity is good!
What if I’m doing the big little feelings method and it’s not working. I’m at my wits end and so frustrated. She pees in the potty most the time but refuses to poop
I'm curious if he still pees/poops in a pullup or diaper during nap and nighttime. My little girl has been potty trained for a while but she still goes so much at night and nap! She's not holding it either because she goes plenty during the day! It's just funny because one indicator to start training is a dry diaper, but I'm so glad I didn't go off just that and went on her other cues because she was definitely ready!
No! He actually woke Matt up this morning to tell him “the poop was coming out of my butt!” Matt rushed to get the potty and he made it without incident!
Thank you Megan!!! My daughter is TERRIFIED of public restrooms and she's only 2 (as of tomorrow). So I know that potty training while away from home will be a struggle for us at first. I appreciate this video ❤
So I’m a mommy of 3 beautiful babies. 13, 3, and 1 .. the jump between the oldest and the middle was basically starting over so I had no idea what I was doing all over again. And especially bc my oldest is a boy and my baby girl is 3, which we are potty training now! She’s pretty much got it except for pooping. She still wants to hide and we can’t seem to get her to use the potty to poop. She’s fully wearing underwear during the day and using the potty for peeing so amazing! But I’m trying to not get overwhelmed bc she will be starting Pre-k in the fall. Any tips ?? … but the stick on the public toilet is a great idea and I will be using that, so thank you for that! ❤
We potty trained our son at 20 months because he would poop in his diaper, then go get his diaper bag, pull out the pad, the diapers and wipes and throw them at us! Lol. For our second son, we’ll wait until we see a similar sign - even if we see it much later! But at that early of an age, you just can’t expect good communication. As long as we put him on the potty regularly he was good to go.
In any third world country, where are no diapers, kids do not have problems with potty. Babies as little as 1 year old are slowly trained to sit on potty.
I just started today..i feel frustrated because my 2 year old daughter is not itnerested in the potty. She pees everywehere and no signs that she is about to pee. Its different with pooping I'ts predictable. It's now the 5th accident now nad theres no pattern. I want to give up. Im following the 3 day method /naked potty training.
My 4 1/2 year old is not fully potty trained. She goes to daycare, she is the only one who still isn’t trained. They put pull ups on her for nap time. And undies through the whole day, she won’t let them know she has to go. And they bring her in the potty every 1/2 hour. She doesn’t pull her pants down or up herself, they have to pull her pants and underwear up and down all by herself. BUT with me at my house she does tell me she has to go, she does say I need to potty mama, she does walk to the bathroom and have me fallow her, she does pull her pants and underwear up and down. What do I do??? She’s been at the daycare for 1 year and still doesn’t tell them when she needs to go.
I am in this battle too. Mine is 3 and is the only one that is not potty trained in the nursery. I decide not put nappies on her and try to see if she tells me but nothing happens and lots of accidents. I feel frustrated 😩
My son turned 4 on July 19th and still is in 100% diapers. Our pediatrician says the worst you can do is force, just creates the opposite and fears. We have never pressured him but he shows no interest and completely rejects the idea! I dont know what to do...he might be going in diapers to school if thia continues😔 With my first daughter she had no issues and potty trained herself at 2.5 years.
My son is 2 year and 7 months now Struggling since 1 month to train him He fears potty seat and avoid doing potty in toilet and bathroom too Hold till we offer him diaper

So I'm actually having a hard time potty training my two year old old daughter. She asks to go potty all the time but she gets up there and sits and instantly says she's all done. Any tips would help!
Sounds very cute but frustrating! 😂
Juniper is just starting to actually go potty as well.
Thank you!! Hoping to do this a few months before little sister makes her appearance!
Thanks for this, Megan! Would you consider doing one for sleep training as well?
What if I’m doing the big little feelings method and it’s not working. I’m at my wits end and so frustrated. She pees in the potty most the time but refuses to poop
I'm curious if he still pees/poops in a pullup or diaper during nap and nighttime. My little girl has been potty trained for a while but she still goes so much at night and nap! She's not holding it either because she goes plenty during the day! It's just funny because one indicator to start training is a dry diaper, but I'm so glad I didn't go off just that and went on her other cues because she was definitely ready!
I literally typed this before getting to that part of the video.... sorry! So I switch my question. Does he POOP during those times, still? 😅
No! He actually woke Matt up this morning to tell him “the poop was coming out of my butt!” Matt rushed to get the potty and he made it without incident!
@@MeganAcuna Oh my gosh I love this haha! We're still working on this apparently.
Thank you Megan!!! My daughter is TERRIFIED of public restrooms and she's only 2 (as of tomorrow). So I know that potty training while away from home will be a struggle for us at first. I appreciate this video ❤
Thanks dear
Thanks❤❤❤
Clicked so fast.. my girl is potty training, a few months younger than Rowan.. Idk what to do
We potty trained our son at 20 months because he would poop in his diaper, then go get his diaper bag, pull out the pad, the diapers and wipes and throw them at us! Lol. For our second son, we’ll wait until we see a similar sign - even if we see it much later! But at that early of an age, you just can’t expect good communication. As long as we put him on the potty regularly he was good to go.
That’s so funny! “Here you know what to do” 😂
In any third world country, where are no diapers, kids do not have problems with potty. Babies as little as 1 year old are slowly trained to sit on potty.
So true!
Some do, some don't. I have the resources to wait until my kid is different, so what does it matter what parents without resources are doing?
What toys did you use in your sensory bin?
Where did you get your kiddos bed from!?
It’s a discontinued ikea bed I found on marketplace!
It’s totally OK to try later on! I know for us personally 2 would have been too early, but you know your kiddo best of course!
What is the potty toys? sensory bean??
I dont know what to do...he might be going in diapers to school if thia continues😔
With my first daughter she had no issues and potty trained herself at 2.5 years.
Read oh crap potty training!!!!! Sorry to say that your pediatrician might be wrong.
This was super helpful, thank you! My baby is only 13months, but I’m researching early, haha.
I son is so scared of public restrooms 😭
HELLO
My son is 2 year and 7 months now
Struggling since 1 month to train him
He fears potty seat and avoid doing potty in toilet and bathroom too
Hold till we offer him diaper
What did you do, when you were in the car, and your child had to pee, while you're Is still in potty training interview
We didn’t leave the house for the first five days. After that we would take the little potty with us and pull over when he needed to go
