Walkthrough review zero turn commercial mowers.
I like that grasshopper keeps things simple. Heavy Duty, all metal no plastic and no nonsense. All the others seem like they have to much stuff that could go wrong with them. Kinda like an old school pickup and today's electronic problematic trucks. We had an early 2000s front mount diesel and I don't believe we had to do anything to it for the first 750 hours other than replace a spindle because it hung up on a tree root. Very solid, simple, and reliable machines.
Your comparison videos are really well done. No unnecessary babbling at the beginning of the video, you just get right to the point and do a nice job telling their strengths and weaknesses. Wish you also sold Gravely, Kubota, Ferris, and Toro just to have a huge Battle Royale. Haha
I sold gravely for 3 years, but had trouble selling them sitting next to so many similar lines, if that makes sense. We gave them a ton of floor space and represented them up front, but still couldn’t really break over 50 mowers a year with them.
We used to sell gravely, it was a hard sale sitting next to grasshopper hustler and bad boy. A very hard sale. Not a bad mower at all. You’ll notice most brands do better when they are stand alone at a dealership. If one brand stands out on features people are drawn to something “different” of that makes sense. On toro/Exmark they don’t exist in our area at all. Almost no presence. Only one guy I know of runs Exmark on his trailers.
Kubota sales a lot here, but once the mower goes in the shop a few times they are usually looking to trade to something more affordable on maintenance and upkeep.
Ferris I think has priced theirselves out of reach of most educated buyers. We are going to carry the Stihl mowers which are super similiar. Definately gonna be out most expensive mowers, but Stihl’s name and customer service is bar none. I already have 2 72” 18k 40hp vanguards sold and that is just cray cray to me when we have a 72” 35hp bad boy for $11k 😂
The deck spindles on the Hustler are the best in the business. Twelve years with three mowers and never had to replace any. The hydraulics on Hustler are great, does not beat your arms like everyone else's mowers
I have to replace all my deck spindles every 2-3 years. All hustler super z’s
@@ChiliblockTrading you have to grease them every 50 to 100 hours
Nice review. I just bought the Rogue. Looks like it is built very well with nice fab work and welding. Don't think you can go wrong with any of these you reviewed.
I just got the X1 52.Congrats on your new machine
How has your rogue treated you? Looking at them now
@@averysamples6026 It has been good. Powerful, good traction on ditch slopes, smooth riding. The main challenge I've had is due to 'mohawks' of grass strips being left in line with the front wheels. According to BB the grass in northern areas like MN can lead to that when you mow fast. These are worse when the dandelions are sprouting. I know I can slow down and eliminate the issue, but the whole reason I bought this was to shorten mowing times. I'm not going crazy fast. Otherwise I love the mower.
my BadBoy is 12 years old n i beat it hard its a tank ive never had any problems with her just blades n servicing her i love her !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! grasshoppers are bad ass also love them to !
Have you used Grasshoppers? I see on a lot of these mower sites, they have the fewest service issues of any of these mentioned here. Owners seem to love them.
@@royalway12 yes i have they are a great mower also just about 3 times as much as a BB i run the wheels off my BB its 12 n im just now replacing the spindles but my shop got flooded it sat in water for 3 days ya cant go wrong with either one !
@@raymondj8768 Thanks for the reply. The Sutherland's just a mile up the road from me, is a full line Bad Boy dealer. They also do the repairs there. Looks to me like, the BB is the best out there for bang for the buck. Their frame construction up close is rock solid. What's your thoughts on the stand up mowers?
@@royalway12 there good to depending on how much lawn u have they cut just as well ! BB bilds there stuff like tanks i love them
Nice mowers. Think I'll stick with my 2001 Grasshopper midmount 225 with 4800hrs on it that still runs & works like the day I bought it (new).
i like the kubota diesels zds and Fseries front mounts
The grasshopper looks like a well built no nonsense mower. I'm currently shopping. How is their dealer support? I'm leaning in their direction. I looked them up online, and saw that they're still Ma & Pa owned, and built in the U.SA. in Kansas, and have won State awards for being a great employer to work for. They also support wounded vets by donating a Zero turn every year to a wounded vet. All pluses in my book. Thanks for the post by the way.
@@royalway12 Yes, Grasshopper is for sure an "All American" type of company. Not that the others aren't. They've been around forever, they have a solid reputation in the industry and yes, they are American/ family owned. Everyone has their favorite - Grasshopper happens to be mine, but only because that mower I purchased all those years ago has stood the test of time. My experience with dealer support has been very good.
@@williamwalter4882 Thanks for the info. Good day to ya.
2018 Hustler super z with 27hp Kawasaki 60in. With flex forks. I even bought headlights but haven't installed yet. Love it
On that Hustler X-One, you need to loosen or lube the bolt on that seat catch arm so gravity can let it work as designed.
I've owned and ran almost every mower there is, my last 3 I have bought are hustler. John Deere is my second favorite because of their cut but are overpriced and complicated to work own. Scag does out cut when it comes to dispersing and JD better at cutting clippings very small. Hustler X one a great in between.!
Have a grasshopper, frnt deck is great kubota diesel has loads of torque.
Great breakdown, you sounded truthful and unbias; well done. *God bless.*
I've noticed out of the 4 mowers the grasshopper comes with led light that's really nice for getting that one last lawn done if need be.
You can of course add leds to any of them for around $150 to $300. We have some pretty cool light kits now.
Very thorough review. I’m an extremely satisfied 72” XOne owner, mowing 3 acres weekly in the summer months. No issues so far, just normal maintenance. Love the cut and the 72 inch deck makes for a fast job. Great review.
I ordered one last year by mistake. I didn’t realize it was a 27hp kawasaki. Lady bought never heard one complaint, but I was nervous all of our other 72s had 35hp plus
@@kgmowers The Kawasaki FX850 is a real power house motor for 27hp. I have never had any issues mowing tall or wet grass with it. Even on the 72” deck. More horse power can’t be a bad thing, but there was no compromise with FX850. Think the new ones have been bumped up to 29.5 if I’m not mistaken.
No if's ands or buts about it, the Velocity+ deck is the best deck on the market today. Well in tall fescue that is, as that is 95% what we have here with a little bluegrass and a few random zoysia lawns. Over 30 years cutting for a living. Looking at the brands offered I get the impression this is at a southern dealer with southern turf? Reason I think that is due to the mower offerings. No grasshopper, no bad boy, no hustler mowers here. Exmark absolutely DOMINATES here. Followed up by scag and toro with a sprinkling of bob-cat mixed in. Doesn't matter what you throw at the V+ deck. Tall thick lush wet spring growth? No problem one pass and done. Soaking wet every morning with heavy dew? Oh well no problem. Clumps? What are those? Windrows? Our Gravely 460's and 160 were famous for grass string out on top. V+ fan's it out far and wide and makes it vanish. Anyway great video! We own 2 Tiger cat II's. one with the ACTUAL 29hp kohler efi (traded in a Tiger Cat with the 25hpefi labeled as 29hp.........wayyyyyyyy under powered for 61") and one with the 32 Brigg's big block (BEAST and super THIRSTY). So from one long time lawn care pro to anybody seriously in the market. The deck makes or breaks a mower. Why compromise? Get the scag. BTW "and if you want 0% interest, you pay for it" huh? So if you want 0% then you JOE consumer are actually paying the banks kickback or the interest is baked into the upfront cost. One or the other lol
I have had my Scag cheetah for 9 years and still going strong. I wonder how long it will last I keep it serviced and keep it out of the weather but it is a good mower I have no complaints.
I like the cheetahs!
I have owned a Hustler Fastrak for many years. It has been superb and extremely reliable.
I really like them. This month is a $500 rebate so we always sale more. Hustler is offering a full 6 year warranty on the engine and the mower for $500 so that is helping them out too :)
Really good comparison of those four mowers. Wish I lived in the USA to enjoy those dollar prices.
With these four mowers can you do a video showing cut quality. I am interested in how they strip, how they cut when turning also when going over uneven surfaces and not scalping etc. Making a couple passes with each mower showing cut quality would be awesome to see. Thanks
So striping doesn’t exist here. That’s a coastal or northern thing. Our grasses don’t stripe. As far as scalping all mowers will do that. I recommend when making a turn or going over an uneven surface get in the habit of floating your deck with your foot. I mowed most of my yards with a 72 and hardly ever scalped. But me and my deck were one with each other lol. My foot was constantly pulling the deck up every few seconds it became second nature to me to always work my deck up and down.
It’s hard to even keep any in stock. I had to sell all my demoes just so people would have mowers 🙈
@@kgmowers if you want a mower that doesn’t scalp then I would recommend looking at selling John Deere 900 series mowers. They have anti scalping wheels on the front and back of the mower and you can set the scalping wheels so the deck does not fall below 3 inches. I’m from Missouri in the ozarks and it’s super bumpy. John Deere is about the only mower I’ve found that doesn’t scalp in a 60 inch deck.
ILL TELL UKNOW HANDS DOWN NO COMPARRSION SCAG IS BEST CUTTING DECK
Very nice machines indeed. Interesting they all have now gone to vertical shaft engines. In my area of FL I would say the "big three" are Toro/Exmark, Scag and John Deere. On my lawn I use a 1999 Exmark 60" Lazer-Z that has a Kawasaki FD661D (liquid cooled) and the infamous "Corvair" deck belt drive. I agree that Bad Boy deck is nice but still not as stout as the older Exmarks were.
😅
I'm pretty well sold on the bad boy. After all the videos I have watched, BadBoy checks my boxes. Easy to service, good price and well built. I can adjust cut quality with blades.
I currently have a bad boy maverick HD. Thinking about getting the rogue.
The rogue is awesome
I run three 2014 Grasshopper 227 that came with 27 Kohler command pro that have since worn out. I have fitted all 3 machines with big block Vanguards. The Grasshoppers have been awesome units with over 5k hours on them and still the original hydros. I have yet to demo a unit that holds hills like they do. I will continue to buy Grasshopper.
I have an old 48 inch Encore that has narrow, tall rear tires on it and I also built a rack over the top of the engine for a 15 gallon sprayer tank and I can fill it a little less than half full and I can hold a steep ditch as good as any other lawnmower I’ve ever ran including a mower with a steering wheel and me walking beside of it holding it from turning over. It is bad about rearing up bad but that also comes in handy when I come up on a root. I can stop and take right off and pop a wheelie and go right over it and never miss a beat lol but I do tell people when they are looking to get a new mower to make sure that it was narrow back wheels and not the fat smaller ones. I have a 42 inch with those on it and it’s got to be on a flat surface or it will slide to the bottom. I’ve always hated it but I do have a bagger for it which I’m sure that I can put it on my 48 without much trouble and it doesn’t cut good either. I’m thinking that the longer the blades are the better it will cut because it has more of a swinging distance.
l have a 227 and have 1500 hrs on it. I cut five acres and it's done well. Only issue is that wish it had a better ride.
@@george7058 mine have the cordura seats not the grammer seat and I have no issue with ride quality
Hustler dominates in my area. I mowed with a 2005 Super Z and it never slid an inch on a hill.
You hit the nail on the head man. I had a Hustler Super Mini Z 52” with a Honda motor and should never have sold it! That thing could side hill like nothing I’ve ridden since. I now have a Hustler 54” Raptor XD for my small yard and she’s nose heavy and scares the daylights outta me on side hills. lol She still cuts beautifully though. 😊
@@bladeaddison3189 I still have a Hustler minz Z 52 with the honda. It's 20 years old. Was thinking of selling it to get a newer mower. I don't think they make them like this one anymore.
People use Scag lawn mowers in my area. They use a lot of Wright Mowers to. Scag set down mowers in the Wright stand mowers. I don't know what the difference is between the mowers but they use a lot of them.
Best review video on a large selection of mowers with useful information. Thanks bud, I'll be going down to the hustler dealer this week to get a hands on feel.
I’m a paramedic and I ran an ambulance call where a guy was cutting along a ditch with a large zero turn, he hit a culvert and flipped upside down into the ditch. He did not have a roll bar and it folded him in half, his face was on his knees. He was like that for about 20 minutes. Get the one with the rollbar.
@@afn-bd2ro last I heard, he recovered and went home.
Delivered a nice even cut, has the super tight turning ability ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend I was looking for, and is just a blast to drive. It takes a little bit to get used to driving one after driving a normal tractor style, but once you've got it, you've got it. If you're cutting lines, you have to be careful spinning the mower around or the back tire will dig a bare spot. Just take it nice and slow during the turn and then it's back to full throttle across the yard!
Have a grasshopper 329B with the 61” and a 28HP vanguard and that thing is a beast. had it for 4 years now and all I’ve changed is a belt. and of course blades. but I’ve run them all and grasshopper may not be fancy but I’m gonna tell you that grasshopper has been the most reliable mower I have ever had. And that’s cutting 2 acres 2 times a week if not more considering the occasional neighbor mow.
All are beautiful mowers although I'm partial to Hustler.
I used a Hustler at our church that they bought. It had the 55" cut and 24hp Kawasaki. It was built like an absolute tank. Huge gas tank also. It laid down baseball field quality stripes, and that was just plain mowing, no kit. But if there's one thing I'd change on it though, and that would be a suspension seat to be added. After mowing 7 acres all day, my back was killing me after each session.
@@royalway12 I know exactly how you feel. I'm not sure about the 2021 seats but the previous generation Raptor seat is average at best and the springs are too strong so it's bouncy, great cut though.
I just bought a scag tiger cat so far like it .
8950 price tag is now 12,399 may 2022
I just bought a TC2 61" with the 26hp Kawi FT. It came to $12k with a hitch and taxes (MD). MSRP was $12,550.
Same, I was cash out the door last year for 8400$ on a scag tc2 54 26hp kawi efi. Machine has been wonderful! I have a crazy hilly yard and thought it would be trouble mowing it with a ztr but so far I'm so happy I have the ztr and not a tractor style mower. I was looking on Facebook marketplace for kicks and a used tc2 like mine with 110 hrs was asking 9500$. More than what I paid brand new. Only have 15 hours on mine so far but it's been perfect.
I purchased a 21 Hustler Raptor XL 42", love it...
Great run down. One add that you touched on: Center of gravity and weight distribution make a huge difference. So be very aware of the type of terrain you’re mowing. If you’re side hilling at all sitting lower keeps the deck from causing the nose of the machine to slide on you. Flat terrain and they’re all great. Also stance vs. deck width and weight can make side hilling a challenge. If I could give one piece of advice to anyone looking at them … run them before you buy! 😊
So which of these would you prefer on hills?
@@MrThumper1440 … I bought the Hustler Raptor, but it is horrible on side hills. Nothing like my first Hustler Super Mini Z that was much better. I expected the same performance and was wrong. I should have driven more before buying. I’m just warning people to test drive several before deciding. 👍
Hellava good review there. You touched base on a lot of key things and it’s based on experience using all of them That Bad Boy is definitely a good looking machine. Thanks for sharing
Bad boy has definately brought some things to the market that caused it to change. Over the last 20 years you’ve seen other brands make brands that sound like them, you seen the way others do business, lowered prices. I’ve been in the industry for 15 years and I’ve seen some special influence that bad boy has brought to an industry that was getting very expensive and lower quality. Bad boy has challenged the industry and they are starting to answer back so it’s helping everyone in the business by driving quality up and prices down
Great video, very informative! Currently own 3 Hustlers! So many good mowers out there I’ve just been on hustlers for years love them!
That's great 48 machines so glad you're doing so well want to move to Florida now
We ended up doing 170 nee mowers for March. I’m pretty sure that was a record for us over the last 14 seasons
Great video when l started there was Dixie Chopper Grasshopper and Hustler l started in 1984 with Dixie Chopper but l had a Grasshopper mowers too take care 👍
Didnt wheelhorse have a chain drive ztr?
@@robertroberts9782 it was a Dixie Chopper painted red
Good video. Considering the Bad Boy maverick from your other video about it.
They are my best seller by far. We are having so much trouble keeping them in stock this season
IN South Alabama we cut tremendous amounts of Bahia Brass and I have never seen anything that will cut it with a Velocity Deck Scag. Hands down it is the way to go for Bahia Grass.
Instablaster
When I was cutting grass I would spray all of the Bahia grass with Cimarron and it was very easy to kill and it would stay gone for at least four years or more. I’d cut it and wait about two days and then spray it. Seems like that it works a lot better when it is just coming back up about 3 inches tall and I would add some Surfactant to it of course. It’s very cheap also but the only bad thing is that you can probably go the rest of the season and not have to cut it. I guess that’s really the only grass in the yard. I wonder if you were to seed it with a different kind of grass if it would come up and take hold. About all of the yards that I had that had Bahai grass in them were commercial yards that were rough places to start with like trailer parks. Anyway it is very cheap and easy to get rid of and one time spraying will last for years which if you could get a different type of grass growing then you may not have to worry about it forever. It is a pain in the butt to cut and it will be right back up in two days. If it’s a yard that you cut bi-weekly it will be two feet tall when you cut it again. It saved me a lot of time and I’m sure that my blades were happy also when I got rid of it. If you don’t have any spraying license you don’t need them for it and when I didn’t have any I would go spray them late in the evening which the places that were so bad I wasn’t worried about getting caught anyway because they were places that you needed to carry a gun when you were there lol.
You compared a 52" scag to bigger mowers. When you step up to the 61 scag you get a bigger stance. All good mowers. You can get softer stabilizers for the scag and it makes the hydros easier to run.
It was just the first one to pull out :).
He stated that
Just got the 61” Rogue with EFI. SOOOOOOOOOOO nice. Awesome machine
The grasshopper has the adjustable handles and adjustable seat. it's important if you cut alot.
I'm looking for a model that will take on bouncing terrain as comfortable as I can get. These mowers I'm impressed on the build quality they offer.
TORO WITH MYRIDE BEST IN MARKET FOR COMFORT AND KEEPING CUT QUALITY
Great video THANKS !!
3 Questions
1) Overall, which of the mowers you showed has the smoothest ride?
2) Overall, which mower is the easiest to change blades?
3) What strands, jacks, lifts do you sell for changing blades? Can you demo one or twp?
My back is shot and looking for the least painful mower for my back !
Again, THANKs !
Glenn, SC
Ok #1 question 100% the bad boy rogue waaaaay better ride.
#2 grasshopper front mount 100% more than them all on changing the blades out.
#3. We use Mojack primarily. Makes it easy to change the blades on a mid mount. The pro model goes up higher to make it a little easier.
I have a brand new 2020 Hustler x one down here in Florida love it I wouldn't buy everything else
I have 200hrs on my Bad Boy Rouge & it is an amazing machine! Maintenance is simple and the suspension on it can not be beat not to mention the max speed quality of the cut! It's the fastest of all of them which increases productivity! I will do a review.
Post a link to it. That’s what I used to mow the church last year. My favorite ride. I used a cheetah 2 As well. Like the cut of the cheetah better, but the ride of the bad boy was nicer
Which one is lighter? Which ones offer diesel? and Which one is less attractive to would-be thieves?
😂. I would say all of them are attractive right now. All the diesels are heavy I would say the grasshopper 325d would prolly be the lightest or a kubota 21 diesel if they are still doing that model
I currently own a Gravely 260 with the Kawasaki. I love it. Rides good cuts good. I want to demo a bad boy and grasshopper sometime. Where im at in Iowa we got Gravely John Deere Kubota Grasshopper and Scag all great looking mowers
You ride a bad boy rogue or a Ferris 3300 and your gonna take back your statement that yours rides good 🙈😂. I carried gravely for around 4 years. That 260 would be my go to to put my hands on. Tough built amazing mowers. Scag tiger cat is basically the same mower. Bad boy will have the edge on the ride, Scag will have the better cut.
@@kgmowers do those ride really that well?
Have been able to compare bad boy rogue suspension to a Ferris suspension. Which one rides better?
Ferris and stihl rides a little better
Thanks
I take that back. It comes down to the seat if it’s the Ferris without the bomb seat it’s no bueno and the rogue rides way better
Is it true that Simplicity stopped making lawn tractors and zero turns?? They were the same thing as Ferris, but a little cheaper. I have a 24 year old Legacy with a 60 inch deck and it's still going strong.
I believe so. Simplicity snapper and Ferris were all under same umbrella.
We have both the BB Avenger and the Elite. If I can get to one before the other. I will jump on the Elite. Why, adjustable seat, a little better ride and armrests. They both cut very well.
The only complaint I have about the Elite. The seat will fall forward into the foot pedal for the deck and scratch and bang up the armrest . We actually added a small 3mm braded stainless cable so the seat will not fall all the way forward. Its also can be used to pull the seat aback towards the down position.
That would be a nice improvement on mower.
The old ones used to have cables. They went away from them for some reason 🙈. Ty for you describing them both a lot of people are wondering if it’s worth the extra to step up ;)
I live in southern Mississippi and I’d say we’re 70% exmark and 30% scag but scag is on the riSe. I got a 52” exmark and a 36” scag v ride
I live in Clinton and I 100% agree
I work for parks and rec and we got scag turf tiger 2’s 5 of them like 6 months ago.
They are absolutely dream machines , no issues and power power great cut and built like tanks liquid cooled
Best cutting mower I've had for southern grasses was Ferris icd deck and John Deere 7 iron deck.
Really eyeing that Tiger Cat 61 but dealer is really lacking compared to 2 eXmark dealers that are close. The FT engine is a big reason on the Scag.
I’m a huge 32hp vanguard fan on the cat. $9999 on national sale from Scag and it has so much more power. The gas consumption on it isn’t as good as the ft efi of course. I love the kawa on the 52.
Scag Turf Tiger 2 vs Bad Boy Renegade??
I love my Cheetah 61 but working on it is the one thing I dislike doing
It’s funny you would think these are all the same. We had a customer get me. They do most of their own mechanics on their mowers but one day came in and asked me if we would change the pump belt on their toro. I said of course and they asked me how much. I said half an hour $35 or $40. We jumped on it right then. 4 hours later the pump belt is changed. Dang near had to take the mower completely apart. The exhaust had to be removed, the rear end, then trans had to be removed. 38 bolts were in the floor then the belt went on. It was the craziest thing ever. He threw $40 on the counter and said thank you so much (we weren’t about to tear down and rebuild that mower just to change the belt out). With a laugh and a smile on his face he didn’t even give me a chance to say it was gonna be more 🙈😂. Lesson learned I never quote a price till we are done 😂
Would’ve loved to do business with you but I’m all the way in North Carolina, just purchased a bobcat zt-3000 yesterday with the 22hp Kawasaki vortical and the 52 in air fx deck and I was gonna go with a scag freedom z but my dealer sold their last 52 freedom z right before I walked in. Love your channel and the content you’ve been pushing out and even tho I’ve purchased my new mower I’m gonna continue to watch!
Scag plant is out of freedom zs I’m out as well. Congrats the bobcat is a good mower :)
Your gonna love that Bob Cat.I have a Bob Cat stander and it's a great machine
Hi, i have my own lawn service. Whats your opinion on choosing the Tiger Cat 2 with the 32hp Vanguard model STCII-61V-32BV? How much does that unit for at your shop?
The sales cash price with scag is $11999. That’s what we are. I will be honest. If I still had a lawn care crew that is the mower I would want for my hands out of all of them :).
@@kgmowers You stated on the video the Bad Boy is your choice. Are the bad boy good quality? I have a dealer near me.
@@EdStaniszewski yes for sure I’m about the ride so my personally I would have to have a rogue for sure. We mowed a 4 acre church yard and that was my go to.
What is the make/model of hydro transmission that allows you to change its fluid? Are these hydro transmission a problem in all zero turns when you cannot change the fluid?
2800 and up is servicable. The sealed transmissions are usually called ezts or 2200s 2100s and 1800s
Are the spindles grease able and how much fuel do they hold?
Scag and grasshopper are greasable. Scag has greasable roller bearings. They are all 10 to 12 gallon tanks.
Put flex forks on those Hustlers and you'll have a great ride. Def. the smoothest pumps.
Really digging how Grasshopper places their LEDs in the fenders, god there are to many options for zero turns lol been in "researching" mode for like 6mo......sigh
Last time time I checked there was 36 brands. There are positives and negatives about all of them. If I could mix them all up I could make the perfect mower
I’ve owned scag and Wright and hustler and JDeere for two hours and I’d rather run a Hustler home owner version than I would any of those. The commercial line is untouchable in maintenance. Easy button!
If I bought a Maverick for mowing my 1 acre yard will I really need to do all the maintenance or will it run forever?
😆. You will Definately have to maintain it or put your dealer to. Things break, need serviced on all equipment. We have seen some miracle mowers though 😂
Have a scag. For last 15 yr. just replace the belts/ regular maintenance but not commercial work
People need to hear this stuff. We tend to only post when there is negative, and the positive goes unseen :)
absolutely love the bad boy mower!!!! but really they all look like amazing mowers.
What happened with you guys and Spartan?
My next mower will be a Spartan SRT-XD, pick it up tomorrow.
How about comparing the cheaper residential mowers
Bad Boy ZT Elite 60", Scag Liberty Z 61", Ect.
The patriot and 125 will get you pretty close. There isn’t much difference in the xdx zt patriot vs the freedom z zt elite and fastrak.
Why is bad boy cheaper on price of the mowers thanks
Shorter warranty.
I'm buying a home in Charleston, AR with four acres of lawn and will need some serious cutting power so it'll take less than a full day to mow. I like your variety of brands, too bad you're three hours away. Come to think of it, three hours each way is a good ride on my touring motorcycle... though doubtful I'd be able to use it to tow one of these mowers home. 😎
We can deliver. Sending one to Missouri next weekend :). We sell a lot in arkansas
I mow about 4 acres with a Scag Cheetah 54" with a 24 hp Kawasaki. It takes me just over 2 hours. If you have a lot of trees, especially pines, you need a front deck style.
I'm wondering how the Hustler would do on hills with a more aggressive tire?....watched a few videos of them sliding down pretty bad (I need the "no-pucker" option if you know what I mean). I have a Hustler walk behind (old Hydro 48) that has been great for me, but I really need to feel comfortable on the Vermont hills which always seem to be wet lately. Great video....The Rogue is definitely on my list now. Thanks!
The super z is the best on the hills period. Of course I recommend upgrading the tires for the best traction of course
Kevin is spot on … my old Super Z was fantastic on side hills. Just drive the machines before you buy! Smaller yard now so I downgraded to an 54” Raptor XD and she’s deck heavy. Would love to explore tire options to see if I can get it under control…she’s a little scary lol
How would you compare the TigerCat2 to the Rebel? Dealer by me has some left over 23 Tigercats significantly discounted and cheaper than the Rebel. For about the same price as the Maverick HD
Tiger cat has the pumps more like the rogue. It’s definately gonna cut a little better. They are supposed to be higher so that’s a bargain for sure. A 61 is 12k and a 52 is around 11k. I’m selling some of the rebels under 10k.
Scag and gravely both use the same belt setup on their decks
My 2018 Bad Boy Outlaw XP cuts great!!
I agree!!! Bad boy cuts great around here!!
Can't beat a hustler!!
bad boy mower is really comfortable u can put that mower where you put a walk behind mower
May God bless your informative
Went over that so quickly, Hustler has the best drives and smoothest transmission.. And, Hustler is so easy to work on, wide open.
Can you tell me where you are located, please? I heard your street address but don't seem to know the city or state.
Excellent video, which one is your best seller? Thanks
We sell more bad boy than all of them combined. We sold 109 this month alone so far.
Exmark is king 👑
You see it every day out in the streets!!!
Exmark/toro doesn’t exist in my area. There is a dealer, but for as long as I know they averaged just a few mowers a year. We only have one guy here running them. Grasshopper has been running our area for the last 30 years. Just recently in the last 15 years started throwing bad boys Gravely’s Kubota’s Spartans scags hustlers on trailers around here
personally, I Think Hustler is the Best Made and engineered with years and years of experience cutting grass for the City. Second Is the Bad Boy. I bought a Maverick because of the adjustable Arms, being i am a Bigger guy. wanted the Hustler, I just didn't fit comfortably on the mower. Also The Maverick has the suspension for a more comfortable ride.
Of these four which would you say is best cut and price
Best cut hands down goes to the Scag, but the grasshopper is super close. Hustler and bad boy don’t cut bad though. My favorite mower on the planet is the rogue right now, but that’s cause the build and the ride. It’s really what your looking for in a mower. If I had a mowing business with hired workers I would put them on tiger cats because we hardly ever have to repair them they seem to be able to beat up more.
Will the bad boy maverick cut at full speed and leave a clean cut on yards that are cut bi-weekly 🤔
With you tuning the deck and figuring out which blades are the best for each yard yes
Bad boy have a mulch deck kit and not a plate only?
Yes the holes are already cut ready to mount on every deck
What are the Hustler Super z 60 with 35hp cost today?
@@Boudreaux911 17500 to 20500 retail and $15 to 17k cash just depending on if you get vx or vx4 deck or hyperdrive or not.
In my area I have narrowed it down to either a SCAG Tiger Cat 2 or a Spartan SRT-XD. Both in 52". What are your thoughts on the Spartan compared to the SCAG? IMO I feel like the Spartan has the smoother ride and better hill capability and SCAG is the reliable, safe choice. Your thoughts?
both are good mowers. The big thing to me is how big the Spartan is. There is a much smaller footprint with the Scag. Yes the Spartan takes hills better due to the size of the frame and the tires. I would pin it down to which dealer would be better for you to deal with over the yesrs
Scag will be the worst mower on hills bcuz they are light and not balanced good. Scag spindles also must be greased regularly versus most other mower brands that have sealed bearings.
DO NOT BUY SPARTAN DO NOT BUY SPARTAN CAN I SAY IT ONE MORE TIME WORST MOWER MADE DO NOT BUY SPARTAN MOWERS WE SOLD SPARTAN MOWER FOR LESS THAN 6 MONTHS PURE JUNK MACHINES HAVE HAD SEVERAL SPARTANS PEOPLE PAID 8000 PLUS FOR GET TRADES IN LESS THAN 80 HOURS THEY HATE THEM
Scag all the way, best warranty of any mower best cut period
I have two old Hustler Super Z 60's, great on the hills, but it looks like the newer ones have a higher center of gravity.
I have a 2003 720k grasshopper and it still runs great to this day only thing is is the blade clutch is going out
Which is my fault I accidentally drowned in water
Since this video, have you noticed any persistent problems with the scag tiger cat II? I'm trying to decide between x-one and tiger cat
No not at all. I had a commercial guy his brake bolts came loose and the brakes fell off in the yard. I was surprised to see the the warranty claim denied. They ended up warranting, but I would recommend checking nuts and bolts on any mower. I absolutely love the xone because of the hte12 Parker’s, but I noticed for 2023 they went to 4400 hydrogears instead. I still have a couple 52 xones with the Parker’s if you can find a 2022 left out there I would recommend jumping on it. On the tiger cat it has the higher end old school pump and wheel motors seperate so it’s gonna be a hard choice. The xone is definately a smoother driving mower by far, Scag has the edge on the cut a little in most grasses.
How long has the rogue been out with that suspension and any problems out of the suspension? As always good video and thanks.
So far the only issue on the first run was the eye bolts were weak. Once they caught it they were upgraded around middle april of 2019. The rogue and renegade have had this since release in 2019. Works amazing!! Very little issues at all.
@@kgmowers thanks
I work for a municipality in Arkansas and we just got a rogue last year I’ve put quite a few hours on it and only complaint I have is when going over rough ground the suspension can sink a little aggressively and cause the deck to scalp the ground but it’s easy to correct when I slow down a bit
I want to be like, Scag cut quality is the only thing...right?? But I am also drawn to the BadBoy.
So other than cut quality, where does Scag shine? And how far behind is BadBoy’s cut quality because over all I want the BB Rebel or Rogue.
You can tell a difference mowing side by side. It’s not much though. All the new mowers are pretty similar now
My company has 2 scags and 1 Bad Boy. Scags are used on the premium accounts, BB on rougher, larger acreage lower paying ones.
@@kgmowers which Scag model would be the equivalent to the BadBoy Rebel?
@@alanruechel2240 which models of each are you running?
@@mickeymallette2663 61 turf tiger 2 with 35 hp vanguard, 52 tiger cat with 23 hp kawasaki , 72 outlaw with 33 yamaha. Also have a 52 exmark turf tracer to use on steep slopes
If your comparing, why not have the bolt loose to lift the foot plate to see the deck
Didn’t think ahead 🙈🥺😂
What is out there with 3400 transmissions and fuel injection?
Maverick hd kohler efi :). One of my favorites :).
What about ferris and jd 930 to these
I’ve only seen 1 or 2 Ferris in my life, and John Deere doesn’t really exist around here either. Exmark and toro aren’t in our market at all. We have one guy running Exmark. We were sheltered to Dixon and grasshopper for 30 years here. Just now starting to see some Kubota’s on peoples trailers. I put some Gravely’s out there too, and Spartans, but grasshopper bad boy are dominating here. Scag is kicking off pretty good this year we are just now starting to see them on people’s trailers
It's weird how regionalized the commercial mower market is. Where I live in the northeast Exmark seems to dominate along with Scag and Walker. Very few Grasshopper (which I own) and Hustler. Bad boy just got here a few years ago - see them at tractor supply mostly.
We carry Walker we only sell one or 2 a year They are special order only though. I decided to stock a couple of the r21s but haven’t sold one yet stuck with them all year 🙈
I know this is an old video …. But I just had to mention how nervous it would make me to operate that scag full tilt with such a lack of engine protection
Wouldn’t take much for you to back into an old half fallen fence post or something and joust that engine
@@nickfruge5639 they haven’t changed much that’s why I haven’t done many videos
Can you put a rebel suspension seat on the rogue?
Yes. It’s the renegade suspension seat. I like the rogue seat better though. So nice on my back
I am running a bush Hog PZ 2661 now, what would you recommend for me? I weigh 400 and have pull some hills while mowing. Mow about 4 acres at a time. I buy commercial mowers because I desire durability. Out of those or perhaps other what would you recommend>?
I will be honest with you, Every one of the 10k to 11k mowers from any brand are amazing and have so much to offer. I would lean on the bigger sized mowers if i were you. The Scag cheetah, any of the r series bad boys, Spartan, hustler super z, the 300 series or 400 grasshoppers, if you get a front mount make sure you get an extension foot platform, 600 gravely is awesome. Have fun shopping, sitting, asking them to let you drive them around. Also consider who is the best dealer I’m always about picking a dealer over a brand
@@kgmowers Thank you sir for your kindness and prompt reply
Can I add a head light kit to my grasshopper 300
Yes it’s already set up for it. I think they are around $150
Does the rogue have any discount or specials going on right now I live in kokomo Indiana thank you
No your blessed if you can find one. I haven’t seen on new going on 2 months now. $9699 to $10799 if the dealer isn’t adding a lot to it upfront.
If you were looking to spend $4-$5k for a light commercial mower what would be your choice? I need one for a small 1/2 acre or so property that we cut maybe once or twice a month, so the grass can be pretty tall or wet when cut. Currently we have a riding mower/tractor style that's 30 years old with an 8 horse engine but things are slowly getting bent up and wearing out. Looking for something better, but can only fit 48" through the shed doorway. (Plus my kid wants to be a landscaper like his uncle, so that's why the light commercial aspect)
If 5k is your cap check out the bad boy zt it’s gonna be the toughest best looking, easiest to access for working on, and have a suspension system
Hustler raptor xdx would be my second pic, 1 year better warranty, really cool
Looking, love the profile, tires, kawa motor etc. Scag Liberty or freedom z will cut better so I would look at it be the most reliable as well, gravely zt hd will have a better belt system and their new look is cool would have to consider, would definately check out a Spartan rz pro, idk I would have fun checking them all out. Take your time, you will be stuck with what you buy for 15 to 20 years unless you want to trade so get something you like and consider looking at their option upgrades. Bad boy has the best selection of options it’s easy to add $1k to the mower in cool stuff
@@kgmowers thank you. I stopped at a Bad Boy dealer late yesterday and checked out a Compact Outlaw. Above the price range but seems to fit the check boxes. Also wondering if a used Rebel would be a good choice if I can find one with a deck small enough. Need to find a video on what to look for with used commercial ZTR mowers.
@@mikezupancic2182 yes!! That mower is a tank. You asked for commercial, but sadly at 5k you cant touch commercial. At 6k to 8k you can get closer. The rebel is such a huge mower even the 54” is bigger than most 60” machines.
@@kgmowers speaking of the rebel, what's your opinion on those?
@@king_beard_1014 they are tanks. If I still had a mower service that would be the one I would have my guys on. That or an xone hustler a 329 grasshopper, or a tiger cat Scag. I really like all of those for employees. They all are the best to throw hands on without breaking the bank
I run a zero call bush hog that thang is a beast
