Doctor Who: The Dominators - Colourised

- Clips from my first attempts at colourising. I've used Photoshop to colour and Premiere Pro to keyframe, with varying results. More complicated movement is obviously the next challenge, but here's what I've achieved in two weeks.
I've always had a fondness for The Dominators and think a splash of colour gives it a new lease of life. I'd love to assist with and support the Blu-ray range once I improve.
No copyright infringement intended, support the BBC range.
This is incredible, it's like a parallel universe where 2nd Doctor/Jamie/Zoe stayed another few seasons into the early 1970s. Hard to know at times if you're watching a Troughton or Pertwee story!
Reminds me of Day of the Daleks type film. Agree.
@@dickiegreenleaf750 Day Of The Daleks is very hard to beat as it thankfully consists of the original four episode colour prints. Having said that they did an excellent job on the re-colourisation of The Curse Of Peladon which is the next story in the season line.
“You were told to stay away from the Quarks.”
“Well, I do. W-when I see one, I go away.” 😂😂😂
The Doctor figured out that in order to not appear threatening, he and Jamie had to act like idiots, and it's hilarious.
These colour clips convinced me to watch the dominators and I gotta admit this story is so underrated it's not a classic but very enjoyable stuff
yes!! thank you for this! i’m working on a painting of two, jamie, and zoe from this episode and was looking for color pictures of the set and wardrobe, this is the perfect reference :)
Now we can see the Dominators arguing with each other in colour!
I jest of course, this is magnificent :)
Nice life jackets!
Dominator 1: Destroy? 👀👉👈 Dominator 2: No Jerry FFS we've talked about this
Absolutely amazing!! Keep colouring this episode
I made a comment on gallifrey base, this really is good! How do you know the colours? I've never paid much attention of this story but seeing this clip in colour - then watched it side by side - I'm excited to see more. I'd love you to tackle The Ark but tbh I'd like to see more of this. 2 weeks for 4 minutes... great work!! Can't wait for more scenes.
Despite its detractors, I adore this story. It looks really good colourised! Good job! xxxx
It's so brilliant to see 1960s in colour
Absolutely amazing! Please do try to do more, you've done some of the best classic doctor who colouration I've ever seen!
The Doctor looks like the lost Beatle.
Older vintage of mop top.
*'s older uncle
I always imagined the Dominators’ armour as dark blue, I just can’t buy it as yellow!
This is fantastic. I would love the blu ray boxsets of hartnell and Troughton to feature colorised versions of all the surviving episodes. It would make an incentive for new buyers to Who to drop some money.
Great concept, but the cost would be prohibitive. As it is, there are rumours they may colourise An Unearthly Child for the 60th... Of course - we know Babelcolour WAS asked to do this for the 50th, and he said no way! (After having done that 1 episode of Mind of Evil over 12 months..)
I love this story, Troughton clowns around perfectly!
The picture quality looks amazing.
Great work! Although I'm still reeling from the idea that anyone has a fondness for The Dominators.....
Why is Jamie dressed kind of like the 6th doctor??
Superb job, I actually like this story too!
I like it too, hence my channel name!
It looks so good!
I enjoy this story. Very underrated and way better than the Krotons
The Krotons' accents were curious, and I couldn't help but notice Zoe's outfit.
This Dr Who story, was originally intended to be 6 parts, and it was shortened to 5 parts and also the Invasion was originally intended to be 6 parts but was foolishly lengthened to 8 parts which did not really work at all and also had the Invasion been made and shown in either 6 parts or even made and shown in 5 parts it would have been billions of times better than grotty 8 parts which did not work at all.
Totally LOVE the Dominators.. Classic stuff
I reckon the Quarks contain stashes of banknotes, bullion and jewellery.
That's the longest I've ever been able to sit through this story. Great job and three years ago. I'd love to see all the 60s stories like this. No problem with it at all.
This is brilliant ! I want to see more of this ! I am no expert on this process, how long does it take to colourise a full story ? And just how costly is it ? Last week I watched this story on a BBC video. It was in grainy black and white, with poor sound quality ! But this a vast improvement, not just the colour images, but the actual sharpness and clarity of image. It is worth remembering that this originally filmed more than fifty years ago !
3:05 Zoe's posture, demeanor. "Fire Cully Fire". Eyebrow raised on this take.
You colourised The Dominators? Really? Each to their own. 😉
I'm assuming that those "vests" are possibly down-filled.
If so, along with the long sleeves underneath, those guys (& the Doctor & Jamie?) had to be sweating up a storm.
Unless they were filming inside a refrigerated set.
That wouldn't be unheard of for Classic Who productions... they probably were baking in there
Can you do the Cyber Controller reveal from ''The Tomb of the Cybermen'' please?
Thisnis what the bbc needs to be doing with the season blu box sets colourising the old classics and having them in both original b and e and colour this adds so much more depth to what is already great stories
This is terrific! Great choice if episodes, too. My favorite 2nd Doctor story. GREAT JOB!
Wow! Excellent effort, well done.
Overall the skin tones are great
Jaw dropped, this looks fantastic. I loved every minute.
If the Dominators ever quit arguing with one another, they could give the Daleks or Cybermen a serious run for their money in terms of sheer ruthless efficiency.
Absolutely incredible. What you have achieved is really superb. Keep it up! Do you colourise frame by frame, or have you developed some automated technique?
Thank you very much! I colourise key frames and then move them around in Premiere Pro. I've done some more clips from The War Games, The Krotons, The Seeds of Death and The Sensorites, though might need a polish before I upload
@@TheBillPodcast Fabulous!
THE YELLOW JACKETS ARE CORRECT.....ONE OF THOSE FOAM RUBBER BODYWARMERS STILL EXISTS IN BBC COSTUME ARCHIVES.....well done....
Great stuff, mind you Ronald Allen chews the scenery just as well in black and white.
It’s weird how Ronald Allen looks older in this story than he did in Ambassadors of Death yet that was made 2 years after.
Maybe hes tired
60s dr who actors really had a harsh "s".
Fab work
Really good!
Have you done more work which is ready to be uploaded?
Hi David, I did some more shots and scenes from The Sensorites, The Seeds of Death and The War Games, which are on Twitter I think. I enjoyed doing these in between other projects and it was a fun distraction. There are several far more talented and skilled people out there doing it to a much higher standard - I am in awe of their work!
where do you get the real colours for this. Are there any tele-snaps of this in colour
Love this! Keep going!
Hey this Fantastic. Great job.
How did you get your Photoshop colours to move in Premiere?
whaaaaaaaaat some of this looks like it was filmed in colour
There are some set photos in colour if you look far enough
Even as a small child watching this, I knew the special fx were rubbish at the time.
They are very creepy
Not a fan of this season or the one before but color helps! :D Thanks
Not a fan is season 5?.. really..
Imho one of the best seasons ever
Great colourisation! I'm just about to start this one (I am doing a marathon of every sixties story) and I have to say from what I can remember in my opinion this is a horrible story that really drags and is really not very good 2/10 my second lest favourite classic series story (terminus being my number one) it seem from this comments section quite a few people enjoy this story...
How was it then?
@@louiswright8282 lmao i never watched it in the end
@@cynicalwho4039 Was it that bad?
@@louiswright8282 yes
@@cynicalwho4039 Awww I was excited to get it. Nevermind
I think this is very cool, but I'm sorry this just looks wrong.
WTF are they wearing?
Big shoulder pads were a thing in the '80s, I think they took it to the extreme here
