Bazooka Joe said this fight made him realize that his boxing was not up to par. He'd been super kick-heavy up until this point, and Nieky's boxing dismantled him. Joe's boxing is absolutely beautiful now, and he teaches the fundimentals wonderfully
Bazooka Joe has a strange style of boxing where he brings his non-striking hand back behind his guard. Its almost like his hands want to stay in line with his shoulders at all times. I've noticed it leaves him open to counters and I don't think he's really changed it. His recent videos look very similar to how he fought Holzken when he did throw his hands
His channel is amazing too, he is a really knowledgeable champion but willing to teach all the fundamentals on UA-cam for free. Here is another one. These two Canadian champions are just humble and generous, the best striking channels on UA-cam to me.
@@LowKickMT yes, in fact Joe's hand leaking down below his shoulder after a right hand is what cost him this fight. He ate at least 3 full power left hooks from his hand being errant exposing his face, and after the first one he's not the same. He loses about 25% power after that, especially on low kicks, and Holtzen starts trading weak kicks for head shots. Lazy right hand defense vs a right hand fighter.
This fight was definitely one of my favorite kickboxing bouts of all time. Both Joe and Nieky are beasts. They legit threw the kitchen sink at each other.
What Bazooka Joe Accomplished with very very little high level fights and very little experience is crazy. He stood up and put up and went out on his shield came back and became the welterweight champion. Stuff of legend
Yes! I've been hoping you would break down this fight, thanx Champ! Love your analysis and breakdowns, and i truly appreciate how much golden fight game knowledge you and Joseph share with the rest of us on your respective channels. I remember being crushed when Bazooka Joe lost this match, after seeing him just wreck shop in his division I was sure that he had the means to outpace and outwit Holtzken and continue his arc to victory. They're both incredible fighters, but I was so bummed that night! I'm so happy for both of your accumulated success in your endeavours, Gabriel. Much respect, good sir!
Hey Gabriel, big fan! I noticed while watching this video with headphones on that the audio of your voice is exclusively on the left side only, while the rest of the audio uses both ears. Didn’t know if you noticed the small audio issue or not (or if it even matters to you) but wanted to point it out regardless :) So hyped to see you cover Bazooka Joe’s fights!
Holzken’s hands being low was really an assertion of dominance. He’s usually got his hands so high but I guess with the experience he thought he could get away with being a bit less careful.
Regarding your point on the jab, I mostly get my weight behind it, my intention is that my opponent keeps the guard up so that I can get in and work on the body with hooks and uppercuts. Are you saying that this only works agains't inexperienced fighters? is it a bad habit to get weight behind the jabs? Great video!
Gabriel, It may sound silly but how do you keep such a good nose? haha.. I'm going to assume really good defense right? or do some people's noses bend easy :D
Hi Gabe. Without any intention to discredit you and Joe. I compare both of you to Manny Pacquiao. His pro debut in the U.S. was against a world champion. And Manny stop him. The champion corner throw a white towel. Please don't get offended. But can you explain the difference between manny and Joe and you? It's a serious question . I like and respect you. So it's impossible for me to discredit you and joe. And I already used to hate comments. So guys don't get offended it's a serious question

@JoshAllenberg wdym back behind his guard? Of course the non striking hand should be back and guarding instead of down low?
Tbf Nicky is just an absolute fucking beast

I come back to this fight every so often. Love glory
I would love to see you and Joe do a collab together. I think you guys have similar teaching styles and would benefit as someone learning from both

@topher nolastname I’m pretty sure Valtellini retired after winning the title against Marc De Bonte.
@@GoodGame-du4ps And sadly Marc De Bonte lost his life later on down the track :(
@@smellyhippi I know man what a tragedy. I hope his loved ones are doing fine.
Love bazooka's style. Also his UA-cam channel is along with Gabriel's my favorite kickboxing channel
What's your favourite kickboxing fight? Is it the one we look at today or do you have another that you like even more?
This one, is my fav.
Joe is the goat bud let forth the joe content
Joe Shilling vs Simon Marcus was a good one too.
Would like to see your thoughts on Regian Eersel. He has an aggressive pressure style and is tall / slim.
Masato vs Kyshenko. The most heart I've ever seen in a fight. I became a masato fan afterwards.❤️
One of my favourite fights to watch. Great performance from both warriors.
This fight was such a great competitive technical one, experience obviously paid off in the end for Holzken

Very inspiring, and I think at a certain point talent takes over.
Joes Instagram clips of him hitttint pads are some of the best combinations I’ve seen
I love this fight. Became a huge fan of both fighters because of this match!

I always liked sittichai vs van roosemalen
I’ve watched this fight like 8 times, love this breakdown! Thank you!
This is one of my all time favorite fights
Such a good fight. Holzken kept that pressure on so well
What’s happening with your karate combat fight? Can you show some training footage and how you’re prepping for that rule set?
Is it just me or the audio is not working?
Epic fight! Epic analysis! Thanks man

You think you guys could ever do a collaboration? That would be so dope and beneficial to watch.
For sure we will do something in the future.
@@GabrielVargaOfficial Awesome! Love to hear it! Your videos are awesome.
I would love that! My two favorite channels. I would love to see some light sparring too!
Great breakdown 👍
All I wanna know is how Holzken ate all those lowkicks like it was nothing.
Hes just built different
i like your vids b4 iv even watched them
Awesome fight for sure :)
Who’s the best striker in all of mma? Alex perrara? Izzy ? Rafeal fizeiv?

We need an episode about Alex perrira what make him so good and tai fighter nang o
I’m excited to see if Strickland will stand up with him or just take him down hopefully he strikes with him
Loved that fight. Tis a shame Vatellini had to retire so soon.
This is my favorite fight of all time. If I want to introduce someone to the sport, this is the fight I'll show them.
Bazooka Joe is the head coach at my gym!
Bazooka kickboxing
Joe’s Gym. Lol
Your videos are really valuable, and so are those of Bazooka Joe on his channel... What about making a video together?
Artem vahitov is my favorite fighter in glory he’s so smooth and his boxing with the way he throws his kicks in are so phenomenal
Am I the only one hearing speaking audio from only the left side?
I hope not. Normal setup.
I'll check it out.
@@GabrielVargaOfficial it's only coming from the left side for me too!
Same
You are not, but not too big of a deal imo
@@GabrielVargaOfficial I have zero audio on anything but your intro for some reason

I loved the video but my right ear unfortunately did not.
What's up with the audio?
One of my cables died. It only records left audio. I have a new one coming soon.
@@GabrielVargaOfficial oh okay, feels weird but nice video nonetheless
The toughness is something I felt made a difference in this fight, because Holzken took a lot of leg kicks in this fight.
Do you want kickboxing with smaller gloves?
Holzken is the best!

I thought this fight was pretty brutal. If I were in Joe’s corner I might have thrown in the towel at points.
