Definitely was worried about how getting KO'd by Marat might affect him mentally, was scared he would be gung-ho and get caught but his performance was awesome
That fight can be summed up in two words that described the downfall = "Lead teeps" that destroyed the core along with great leg kicks and knees destroying the core some more followed by Gregorian breaking apart to defeat. Once he felt a few teeps he should of stayed at a distance and fought long. Superbon treated him like an armature.
You can see Buakaw's influence on Superbon in this fight his constant use of long guard, left roundhouse, teeps, and lowkicks to stiffle agressive pressure boxers like Marat.
My coach used to tell me “the beauty of muay thai is you don’t need a laundry list of fancy moves to win a fight. Jab cross teep roundhouse is all you really need if you execute effectively.” Great breakdown, thanks for this vid 😎👍
Superbon deserves a lot of credit for calling out Marat as his first title defense - true champion and brilliant performance. He really resembled Buakaw in many ways in this fight.
Superbon looked so good. Technical and such a masterclass. It was a beauty to watch. The step knees were brutal. Superbons ring IQ is on a 100 Akimoto, Klinmee, Allasov, and Nong O were crazy.
I think the reason why marat didn't do anything to address the teep was because if he would have dropped a hand to try to catch it ect then he would have left himself open for the right headkick that everyone is on notice about.
I would have advised scooping the kick. Then you can address the front kick well protecting the other side of your head. Perhaps easier said than done against Superbon.
Yeah I'm still surprised he didn't try scooping it.. we train it all the time at my gym and use it in sparring. It's more common with Thai's I suppose and Grigorian is more of a boxer... but still if you scoop quickly while at range it's really pretty safe. Especially with the long teep that Superbon was using
Heyaa, I know it might be too much to ask but would it be possible to break down either the nong o vs lobo fight or the Capitan vs akimoto. Both were such amazing fights imo. Amazing top tier breakdown nonetheless!
Superbon has spectacular timing and distance managment is spectacullar, and is still growing and learning. I cant imagine how far he will be going. You coud see marat didnt know what to do or how to adapt, even being the stronger he coundt land a clear shot A masterclass of superbon on how to defeat a stronger oponent fighting smart
My impression is superbon is setting up for a head kick with the teeps. G is absobing the teeps and not getting baited to drop his hand. The moment he does, superbon is putting the head kick up. So it's well done to grigorian for keeping his guard tight for all the rounds and not getting baited
I think Marat did not want to drop his hands for a millisecond because of that insane headkick potential. So he would take the teep rather than risk the shin to chin.

Hey Gabriel, Can you make a video on sparring someone that creates alot of defensive traffic, leans back and backs up alot? They tend to karate block all my straight punches, and hooks. Their guard isn't a traditional long guard but their hands are a little far from their face.
When somebody is evasive attack the body and legs. - Like when you punch and he backs up end your combo with a lowkick. You have more range in kicks than in punches. - When he uses headmovement/leans back his body stays still at same point so attack it. (Feint high, go down to the body) - when somebody uses long guard arms out, his elbows do not protect his body. I'd go to the body too in that case Good luck in sparring!

This fight reminded me of the both fights between Buakaw and Holzken. Buakaw also dominated Holzken mainly with a jab and a teep. Master class stuff.

That was one of my favorite performance ever. So clean and disciplined. And right on with Namsaknoi. The jab to teep was his bread and butter!
My impression is superbon is setting up for a head kick with the teeps. G is absobing the teeps and not getting baited to drop his hand. The moment he does, superbon is putting the head kick up. So it's well done to grigorian for keeping his guard tight for all the rounds and not getting baited
Yeah I was getting the same feeling. In a similar way to how superbon kept kicking petrosyans body then went to the head when that opportunity came
Interesting point! But if you hollow a little you can defend the teep with elbows and still have the hands up for a headkick
But checkmate for Superbon as Marat was in a no-win situation. Eat teeps right below the belly button or get KO'd with a head kick.
That's just how Grigorian fights.
Superbon himself said he was not going for a headkick since everybody was expecting that..watch his own breakdown on his channel
